Althea Bruns Gubbels

Althea Gubbels, 63, Lena, died Friday morning, June
15, 2001 at San Luis Manor in Green Bay following
an illness with Alzheimers disease. She was born
April 21, 1938 in Crofton, Nebraska to Arnold and
Alma (Thunker) Bruns. Althea grew up in Crofton
where she graduated from high school. On
September 16, 1957 she married Melvin Gubbels in
Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage the couple
moved to the Beaver Dam area where Althea
worked at Crane's Drug Store and the American
National Bank. In 1986 they moved to Algoma
where she was employed by Wisconsin Label. They
retired to the Oconto Falls area in 1996. She was
currently a member of St. Anthony's Catholic
Church in Oconto Falls. While living in Beaver Dam
she was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic
Parish. Althea enjoyed card playing, dancing, fishing
and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors are her devoted husband, Melvin; their
children, Barbara Stegner, Gary (Brenda) Gubbels, all
of Beaver Dam; Paul (Sue) Gubbels, Abrams; four
grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one
great-grandson; one brother, Marvin (Rose) Bruns,
Beaver Dam; one sister, Jeanette "Bunny" (Ken)
Ward, Huntingdon, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son,
Russell in 1982 and an infant brother, James "Butch".
Friends called on Monday at Jones Funeral Service
in Oconto Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was
conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's
Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Harold Beerntsen
officiating. Burial in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery,
Beaver Dam.
