( December 20, 1947 - November 03, 2021 )
Lawrence B. Zimmerman, age 73 of Suring, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Larry was born on December 20, 1947 to the late Janet Arrick. He was raised in the Town of Breed and graduated from Suring High School with the Class of 1966. Growing up, Larry worked on the Muck Farm, growing vegetables. After venturing off to other cities, Larry was intrigued with flying and obtained his pilot license in 1983. He settled in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area, where he worked for Ford as a mechanic for 11 years. On March 19, 1991, Larry married Virginia Becker. Larry later retired from the Manitowoc County Highway Department after 20 years as a purchasing agent. Larry and Virginia moved back to Breed in 2002, where they built their retirement home.
A man of many traits, Larry was called “MacGyver” by his family for his unconventional problem solving, extensive knowledge, and ability to improvise and adapt. Larry was active in events such as Ice Drags with his Chevy Z-10 pickup truck and truck pulls with his Wrench Bender ’56 Ford, rebuilt from the junk yard. He invented the motorized bar stool and school desk, which was used in local community parades for 18 years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Virginia; 2 sons, Todd (Sue) and Travis (Kelly); 2 daughters, Jenny Jolin and Malinda (Jason) Trimberger; 5 grandchildren, Jordan Zimmerman, Sidney Zimmerman, Ian Zimmerman, Shawn Simon, and Quest Mays; 3 siblings, Pat Haave, Renee (Robert) Albrecht, and Dwayne Arrick. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Nancy Smith; brother, Mike Arrick; brother-in-law, Tom Haave; special uncle, Elder Zimmerman; special friend, Randy Trippler.
A celebration of life for Larry will be held at a later date. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
