These short articles are posted in the hopes of adding otherwise unknown aspects to family histories. They contain numerous individual names and describe the everyday life activities in Oconto County, Wisconsin's, past.
 

The chancel of the Methodist Episcopal church which lends itself so well to dignified ceremonies, was the scene of a beautiful marriage service on Saturday evening, when Miss Eleanore Carmen Lehner, daughter of Attorney and Mrs. Adolph P. Lehner, became the bride of Mr. Emory Ansorge of Gillett.  The groom is the son of Mrs. Esther Ansorge of Appleton.


A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Anthony’s church on Saturday morning, November 27, at nine when Miss Agatha Lemirande became the bride of Mr. Lyle Longrie of Oconto.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lemirande and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Longrie of Oconto.


 Oconto Falls—The parsonage of St. Anthony’s catholic church was the scene of a pretty wedding at five Saturday evening when the Rev. F.J. Melchiors united in marriage Miss Arlene Landin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Landin, Oconto Falls, and Russel Sager, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Sager, Coleman.


 Word was received today of the marriage of S.A. Patrick’s, Manawa, and Marion Lemorande, daughter of Mrs. Mary Lemorande, Oconto Falls, Saturday, Feb. 18.  They are making their home in Oconto Falls at present.  Mr. Patrick’s was formerly office manager of the Lena Cooperative Milk Pool here and Mrs. Patrick’s was employed by the Farm Security Board in Oconto.


 Oconto Falls—The first June wedding was solemnized at St. Anthony’s catholic church by the Rev. Francis J. Melchiors Monday morning, when Miss Marcella Murphy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Murphy, became the bride of Mr. John W. Lutz of Minneapolis.  The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lutz of Appleton and former residents of this community.


The flower decked fireplace at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Plier at seven thirty Friday evening was the setting for the marriage of their daughter, Eleanore, to Ellsworth Behling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Behling, both of Oconto Falls.


 Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Pelkey announce the marriage of their daughter, Cora, to G. Gilbert Fitzgerald, son of mar and Mrs. John Fitzgerald of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin.  The ceremony was performed Saturday in Milwaukee at Gesu church with the Rev. Louis J. Fuzz officiating.


A marriage of great interest to Oconto Falls took place at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Oconto at eight on Tuesday morning, when Miss Stella M. Ragen became the bride of Hugh Henry, Jr., at a ceremony performed by the Rev. L.C. Becker.


 The rectory of St. Anthony’s church was the scene of the marriage of Miss Mavis Riemer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Riemer and Marvin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wolfe at ten thirty Saturday morning.

 Marjorie M. Rymer weds Milton Volk at the First Methodist church of Green Bay.  Miss Rymer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ward H. Rymer of Green Bay, former residents of Oconto Falls.  The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Volk also of Green Bay.


 Oconto Falls—Yesterday morning at ten at the home of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rifenberg, occurred the marriage of Mr. Harry C. Elliott, oldest son of D.C. Elliott of this city, to Miss Florence Rifenberg.


 At a beautiful ceremony Saturday morning, August 9, at nine, Miss Eileen Rusch, daughter of Mrs. Amelia Rusch of Oconto Falls, became the bride of Robert Mehlberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Mehlberg of Milwaukee.


 A pretty wedding was solemnized at the George Schaal home, town of Gillett, Thursday afternoon when their daughter, Marjorie May, became the bride of P. Raymond Brock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Brock, Maple Valley.


 Mr. Rudolph Westphal and Miss Adelia Schrubbe were united in marriage on Wednesday morning at Zion Lutheran church, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. A. Wischoff, of Morgan, who is also pastor of the church in this village.  The bride is the fifth and youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Schrubbe.  The groom is the second son of Fred Westphal, one of the substantial and progressive farmers of Morgan.


 Miss Arvilla Spitzer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.J. Spitzer of Green Bay, became the bride of Norman E. Bateman of Oconto Falls.


 Oconto Falls—Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Schmidt, Oconto Falls, announce the marriage of their daughter Lucile Ann and Cletis Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson of this city.  The ceremony was performed October 10, 1939 at the Methodist parsonage by the Rev. David Johnson.


 Miss Anna Marie Schultheiss, Detroit, Mich, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. L. Schultheiss of Oconto Falls, and Ralph Leeseberg, Grosse Isle, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Leeseberg of Lena, were married at two Saturday afternoon.


A quiet but pretty wedding took place at the rectory of St. Anthony’s church at nine on Saturday morning when Miss Monica Taycher became the bride of Lyle Rice.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Taycher and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rice, all of Oconto Falls.


 The marriage of Miss Evelyn Althea Temple, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin C. Temple, of the town of Oconto Falls to Mr. Marvin Seigel, son of Mrs. John Seigel of Gillett, was solemnized in the Gillett Evangelical church on April 18.


Oconto Falls—Miss Ethel E. Wudke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wudke of the town of Oconto Falls, became the bride of Earl F. Seigler, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Seigler, city.


 Lena—The Methodist church at Lena was the scene of a beautiful sept. wedding Wednesday at ten when Miss Dorothy Keith became the bride of Mr. Vance Yarwood.


 A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Anthony’s church last Wednesday morning when Miss Joyce Young became the bride of Roger Davis.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Young and Roger is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Davis.


 Oconto Falls—In a marriage performed at the Methodist church here at two Saturday afternoon, Miss Eleanor Walske, daughter of William Walske of Gillett, became the bride of Floyd Wirtz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wirtz, Oconto Falls.


 An improvised altar banked with mock orange blossoms, roses and peonies at the J. W. Waldron home, was the setting for the ceremony which united in marriage Miss Estelle Rosamond Waldron and Mr. Jos. B. Harter.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Waldron, long time residents of this city, and her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. Harter of East Troy.


The nuptial mass was celebrated in honor of the marriage of Miss Edna M. Wall and Mr. Cornelius Van Hammond at St. Anthony’s catholic church at eight on Tuesday morning.  The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Wall of this city.  Mr. Van Hammond is the superintendent of the mill of the Falls Pulp and Paper Company organized here last year.


Announcements have been received by several in this city of the marriage of Miss Eleanor Vollmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vollmer of Oconto Falls, to Mr. Ernest Cooper at Portland, Oregon.



Saturday June 29, Oconto Falls—Miss Margaret Depner, Oconto Falls, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Depner, married Lucian Patenaude, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Patenaude.



Oconto Falls—Miss Mary Effenberger married Vincent Larsen.  Mary is the Daughter of Anton Effenberger, the local jeweler, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Larsen of the town of Oconto Falls.



Mrs. Meyer , the only daughter of Mrs. Nettie Elliott, was born and reared in Oconto Falls.  Mr. Meyer is the son of Mrs. Lydia Meyer of this city .



The marriage of Miss Betty Jane Cross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Cross of Oconto Falls, and Francis Greenwood of Lena was solemnized at the Presbyterian Manse in Menominee, Michigan on Monday afternoon.



Miss Veronica Coopman was a picture of loveliness for her marriage to Mr. Sanford Vincent of Denmark last Thursday morning.  The pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Anthony’s catholic church by the Rev. Francis Melchiors.



The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Coopman, a life long resident of our city.  Mr. Vincent is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Vincent of DePere.



Oconto Falls—Mr. and Mrs. James F. O’Neill of this city announce the marriage of their daughter, Aurelia Ellen, to George Merrill Crooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Crooks, Oconto, Tuesday, October 6 in St. Anthony’s catholic church, with the Rev. F.J. Melchoirs performing the ceremony.



Oconto Falls—Word has been received here of the marriage of Miss Ethelyne Bahcall, and Morris Wasserman of Appleton.  The ceremony took place at the Beth Israel Temple in Dubuque, Iowa, Friday June 6.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bahcall, now of Appleton, but for many years residents of Oconto Falls.



Oconto Falls—Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ama of Oconto Falls have announced the marriage of their daughter, Gladys, to Donald Hanek, son of Mrs. Maude Hanek, also of this city.  The marriage took place Feb 27 at Sacred Heart church, Sioux City, Ia., with the Rev. P.J. Durkin performing the ceremony.



Miss Vivian Flowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Flowers of this city, and Mr. Henry Nicolai were married at Waukegan, Illinois, on Wednesday, June 14. by the Rev. G.W. Chidester.  The bride is a native of this city, and was a student at our high school and for two years past, has been engaged as a grained nurse at Chicago.



Sacred Heart Catholic church, Spruce, was the scene of a wedding Thursday morning, when the Rev. Fr. J. Platta officiated at a nuptial high mass unifying Miss Mildred Gauthier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Gauthier, Lena and Herman Buseman son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Buseman, Spruce.



The chancel of St. Anthony’s Catholic church was decorated with bouquets and baskets of delphiniums and daisies for the wedding of Miss Margaret Mary Goggins and Mr. Ray Parnell at nine Saturday morning.  The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Goggins of this city



Oconto Falls—United two prominent and well known families of this section of the state, the marriage of Miss Magdalen Goggins and Irving Vincent was solemnized by the Rev. Ralph Goggins of Argentine, South America, cousin of the bride at St. Anthony’s Catholic church at nine Saturday morning August 29.  The bride, a life long resident of Oconto Falls, is the youngest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Goggins, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Vincent, now of De Pere, but also residents of this city at one time.



Oconto Falls—A pretty summer wedding was solemnized in St. Pius Catholic church at Little Suamico Saturday morning when the Rev. Urban Knopka united in marriage Miss Mabel Gauthier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gauthier, Little Suamico, and Lionel Coopman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Coopman of Oconto Falls.



Miss Helen Grismer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Grismer and Vernon Volk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Volk, Jr., of Oconto Falls, were quietly married Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage by the Rev. A.W. Barnlund.



Oconto Falls—A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnized at the parsonage of St. Anthony’s church at four Sunday afternoon when the Rev. F.J. Melchiors united in marriage Miss Kay Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, and Eldo Boettcher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Boettcher of Bonduel.



Oconto Falls—The marriage of Miss Annabelle Kilmer and Mr. Frank Belke was solemnized Saturday by the Ref. A.W. Farnlund at the Methodist church at four.  The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman J. Kilmer of this city and the groom the son of Mrs. Florentine Belke, also of Oconto Falls.



A marriage of interest to Oconto Falls people was solemnized in Hoffman Memorial Methodist church at West Milton, Ohio, at seven thirty Saturday June 29, when Miss Beverly Jane Swartz and Edwin Kain Jr., were wed in a single ring ceremony.  The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. Kain  Sr. of Oconto Falls.
