short articles are posted in the hopes of adding otherwise unknown aspects
to family histories. They contain numerous individual names and describe
the everyday life activities in Oconto County, Wisconsin's, past.

1941—A wedding of interest to Oconto Falls folks will
take place in Shawano on June 21 when Miss Nathalie Peterson will become
the bride of Norton D. Biersach. Nathalie is the daughter of the
N.W. Petersens, now of Shawano, but Falls residents for many years.
Mr. Biersach is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Biersach of Milwaukee.
1941 Oconto Falls—The marriage of Miss Ethel McDougal
and Ervin Krause was solemnized by the Rev. F.J. Melchiors Saturday morning
at eight. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.P.McDougal
of Oconto Falls, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.J. Krause of
Coleman.
July 1941 Oconto Falls—In an archway banked with blue
flowers, roses and ferns, Miss Claudine Umentum became the bride of Victor
Peterson at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Antone Umentum, this
city, at two thirty Saturday afternoon. The groom is the son of Lawrence
Peterson of Kelly Brook.
May 1941 Oconto Falls—The
flower decked chancel and altar of Grace Lutheran church was the setting
for the marriage of Miss Marcella Krause, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Krause and Harley J. VanDenBush, son of Wm. VanDenBush of Green Bay, at
four Saturday when they said their vows before the Rev. Arlen Adams.
May 1941 Oconto Falls—Mrs. J. Bartlet announces the
engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter Marion to W.H. Thompson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson, Coleman. The marriage will take
place
June 7.
1941 Oconto Falls—Mr. and Mrs. Alex Francis announce
the approaching marriage of their daughter, Marie Adele, to Bernard Coshenet.
The wedding will take place July 26 at St. Anthony’s Catholic church.
May 1941 Oconto Falls—The engagement and approaching
marriage of Miss Ethel McDougal to Ervin Krause, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.
Krause, Coleman, has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.P.Mc
Dougal, Oconto Falls.
1941 Oconto Falls—Mrs. Margaret Graf passed away Nov
22 after eight weary years of illness. The requiem mass was sung
by the Rev. F. J. Melchoirs at ST. Anthony’s Catholic Church with interment
in the Catholic cemetery.
1941 Merrill, Wis.—Lorraine Anderson of Suring and
Erwin C. Wahl of Oconto were married at Merrill, Wis. The marriage
was solemnized by the Rev. david Johnson, formerly of Oconto Falls.
1941 Lena—Miss Jean Gering, Lena, became the bride
of Francis Delcore, Racine in a ceremony performed at the parsonage of
the St. Charles Catholic Church.
1941 Mountain—Henry Church, 80, of Mountain was accidently
shot and killed while hunting.
1941 Maple Valley—The Danish Lutheran Church of Maple
Valley was the setting of a pretty wedding of Miss Mary Jane Caly to Austin
Makholm.
1941
Oconto Falls—Mr. and Mrs. Napoleon Thielke celebrated
their 54th wedding anniversary at their home here Sunday afternoon.
A 5 o’clock dinner was served to 55 guests. The Thielkes were married
June 16, 1887 at Shawano. Their attendants were Miss Sophia Thielke
and John Smith. The attendants are both deceased. Mrs. Thielke
was formerly Miss Margaret Flannigan and was born at Bear Creek November
15, 1864. Mr. Thielke was born at Fort Howard, Green Bay, December
11, 1863. They settled on a farm at Bear Creek where they lived for
22 years before coming to this community and buying a farm in the town
of Maple Valley wehre they lived until seven years ago when they retired
and came to this city. They were the parents of nine children.
The living are three sons, Leonard, Coleman; Gilbert, Lakewood; and John,
Gillett; and three daughters, Mrs. Charles Mathy, Kewaunee; Mrs. Ray nelson,
Oconto Falls, and Mrs. Melvin Broutzman, Kelly Lake. Two sister of
Mrs. Thielke, Mrs. M. Long and Mrs. A. Cunningham, Clintonville were also
there. Mr. and Mrs. Thielke are devout members of St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church where they attend mass and receive holy communion daily. They
are both injoying good health.
1941
Oconto Falls— At a meeting of representatives of organizations
of the City of Oconto Falls, A. J. Peterson
was elected General of the N.R.A. (National Recruitment Administration)drive
in this city. Mrs. Ila Foster was elected
Lieut. General.
The meeting was held in the council chambers at seven
Monday evening and was presided over by Assemblyman Gregory C. Flatley
who is a member of the county N.R.A. (National Recruitment Administration)
committee. Mrs. Ila Foster is the other member. The county
committee is headed by Attorney V. J. O’Kelliher
of Oconto.
The city will be divided into sections and groups.
The officers in charge will be selected by the General, Mr. Peterson.
Every effort will be made to put Oconto Falls over the top.
1941-
A highway accident which took toll of another life
and sent one to the hospital with a badly broken limb occurred late Saturday
night.
Norman Bateman accompanied by Charles Morrissey
were riding in the formers car on the county trunk between Lena and Spruce
when they struck a culvert.
The impact so badly injured Mr. Bateman that he passed
away Sunday afternoon about three fifteen at the Oconto hospital from internal
injuries. Mr. Morrissey is reported as being more comfortable at
this writing and is being cared for at the Oconto hospital.
Just what happened to cause the accident cannot be
explained. It was foggy and vision was not clear that night.
This might have been a factor, as also the graveled road. That the
driver might have suffered a heart attack or a stroke is also possible,
for his health had not been good the past year. Another conjuncture
is that something went wrong with the car.
February 1941-
Word of the death of Mrs. Mary L. Wright, 83, in New
York City at seven Sunday morning was received by her son,
Prof. C.E. Wright that day. Mrs. Wright has been ill with
the flu for the past several days.
Funeral rites and cremation were held Tuesday in New
York with burial in the cemetery at Welmont.
Mrs. Wright was born in Richmond, Illinois in June
of 1857 and was married there to E.E. Wright on April 23, 1885. For
the past number of years, Mrs. Wright has made her home with her son and
daughter, Mrs. Thos. Fuson of New York, who are the only survivors.
During her stays in Oconto Falls, Mrs. Wright made
many warm friends. The Wrights have the sincere sympathy of all in
this sorrow.
1941
Oconto Falls—St. Anthony’s Catholic church was decorated
with vases and baskets of autumn flowers Monday morning for the marriage
of Miss Rachel Caroll, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Carrol, Oconto Falls,
and Joseph Porter, Green Bay, son of Mrs. Eva Porter, Oconto Falls.
The nuptial high mass was celebrated by the Rev. M. Grad.
