Initial organization of the Eleventh Wisconsin Light Artillery was begun on April 6, 1862 at Camp Randell (now the site of the University of Wisconsin football stadiium) Madison, Wisconsin. Due to the small size, it was officially mustered into the First Illinois Light Artillery as Battery "L" at Camp Douglas. It served from June 23, 1862 until January 5, 1865 at Harper's Ferry West Virginia until mustered out.
