Inez Alberta Straub  1917-1999

OBITUARY:

Smithfield, Utah – Inez Alberta Lancaster Straub, 81, passed away Sunday, March 7, 1999, of complication of stroke.  She was born October 8, 1917, in Lamont, Wisconsin to Frank Cook and Elsie Hughes Lancaster.  She was the eldest of five children.

As a young person she loved to work with her father in building and roofing barns.  She met her future husband, Karl, while they were both working for Ed and Josephine Gossner in Wisconsin.  She was their housekeeper and Karl worked in the cheese factory.  They were married on February 27, 1936 in Darlington, Wisconsin.  In 1942, with all their belongings and two children, in a 1938 Ford pickup truck, they left Wisconsin and came to Smithfield, Utah to once again work for Ed Gossner at Cache Valley Cheese.  Karl preceded her in death on June 24, 1980.

She was known for her beautiful and precise handiwork.  She kept her family and friends supplied with many dishrags, doilies, quilts and afghans.  She also loved to bowl.  It was serious business with her as her many trophies and “200” pins can attest.  Her life was her family, who dearly loved her.  They will miss her deeply.

She leaves behind her son, Karl (Elaine) Straub of Smithfield, and her daughter, Hazel (Cliff) Meeds of Logan; 7 grandchildren and their spouses; and 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Winfield (Gertie) Lancaster of Lamont, Wisconsin and a sister, Imogene (Dwight-deceased) Larsen of Juda, Wisconsin; also many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.

Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 1999 in the Smithfield City Cemetery, Smithfield, Utah.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cranney Mortuary Logan, Utah.
