Esther M. Lancaster 1906-1998

DARLINGTON- Esther M. Lancaster, age 91, of Darlington, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 1998, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington.  She was born in Argyle Township on August 19, 1906, the daughter of Melvin and Mathilda (Everson) Thompson.

On September 19, 1924, she was united in marriage to Orville I. Lancaster at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church Parsonage.  Esther lived in Lamont after her marriage until moving onto the home farm in Lamont Township in 1930, where she and Orville farmed, along with their sons, until her retirement. 

Esther was a long-time member of the Lamont United Methodist Church and its UMW, of which she served as Past President, and where Esther was also a past Church Council member and taught Sunday School.

She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Alpha Chapter #114 Order of the Eastern Star of Argyle, and was a 50-year member of the West Lamont Homemakers, and served on the County Homemakers Board.  Esther was a past Lamont Hustler 4-H Leader, and had served as Crusade Chairperson for the American Cancer Society of Lafayette County. 

She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.  Survivors include her children, Eulala Heimstead of Madison, Phil (Carolyn) Lancaster and Keith Lancaster, both of rural Darlington; two brothers, Mervin Thompson of rural Darlington, and Paul Thompson of rural Argyle; and eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on August 6, 1983; and a son, Kenneth Lancaster in 1939. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 1998 at the Lamont United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jon Claude Bartlett officiating.  Burial will be in the Lamont Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington, where an Eastern Star Service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
