Ellen Angeline (Cragg) Lancaster 1887-1933

Lamont, Wisconsin
Died 05 January 1933

OBITUARY – LANCASTER
Ellen Angeline Cragg, daughter of Joseph and Mary Cragg, was born in the town of Lamont, on March 2, 1887, and passed away at her home in the village of Lamont, on Thursday evening, January 5, 1933, at the age of 45 years, 10 months and 3 days.

The deceased had lived practically all her life in the vicinity of Lamont.  She graduated from the Darlington high school with the class of 1907, and after graduation taught successfully for a number of years in the schools of the county.  She was united in marriage with Mr. George Pattinson Lancaster, by the Rev. T. N. Watters, at Argyle, on February 5, 1911.  Four daughters were born to this union, one dying in infancy.

After their marriage they went to live on the old Lancaster farm in the town of Lamont and here they resided for fourteen years.  Eight years ago they moved into the village of Lamont, where they have since maintained their home.

Four years ago Mrs. Lancaster went to Freeport for a major operation.  For a time following this she seemed very well, but about three years ago her health began to fail and has since grown continually worse.  The last year she had been a continuous sufferer from a diseased spine.  Death came quietly on last Thursday evening to bring relief from further suffering.

Mrs. Lancaster has been a faithful wife and a loving mother.  She gave herself in unstinting service for her family and community.  For the past six years has most efficiently served the community in the office of Town Clerk.  Even in the last weeks of her suffering she enjoyed working on the tax roll, which task she had about completed when death intervened.  She was a worker in the church and Ladies’ Aid of Lamont, and enjoyed the respect and good will of her community.  Her courage and cheerfulness through these months of intense suffering has been a marvel to all her friends.  She uncomplainingly accepted it for a crown.  She will be deeply mourned and greatly missed by a large circle of relatives and friends.

She leaves to mourn her early passing, her husband; three daughters, Alice, Shirley and Mary, all at home.  She also leaves three brothers: Birkett Cragg, of Willow Springs; Cleve, of Fayette; and Arch, of Milwaukee; three sisters, Nora and Mina, of Willow Springs, and Mrs. Dale Gordon, of Waldwick.

The funeral services were held at the home and in the Lamont Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, January 8th, with the pastor, Rev. E. P. Stone in charge.  Burial was in the Lancaster cemetery.
