Mrs. Margaret Helm 1832-1920

Mrs. Margaret Helm was born in Durham County, England, Oct. 16, 1832 and came with her parents to America when 4 years old. The family first settled in Illinois but a few years later came to Wisconsin. Since that time which dates back to about 1840, Mrs. Helm made Fayette her home until she moved to the town of Darlington, eighteen yeasrs ago.
March 24th, 1848, she was united in marriage to Mathew Helm and eight children were born to them, five of whom are now dead. During the Civil War the husband spent three years upon the battle fields, leaving Mrs. Helm with the brunt of the family burdens which she met with extraordinary courage.
In her recent illness she has been with her son Henry where every care was administered in the fullest possible manner.
The funeral was held from the home Monday morning, and the remains taken to the Lamont cemetery. Her three sons, Henry, William and Thomas all of Darlington, survive her.
