Attack Fatal to Philip B. Matzke
DePere--Philip
B. Matzke, 69, town of DePere,
died this morning
at a Green Bay
hospital, following a heart attack.
Prior to
his death, he was being treated for a fractured vertebra suffered
in a fall from a hay mower on his son's farm in DePere a week
ago.
A
life-long resident of the town of DePere,
he was born there Sept.
17, 1875. On May 29, 1900, he was
married to the former Elizabeth
Reuchenbach, who preceded him in death in December,1939. Matzke, who had retired from active farming
this year had been
helping his son before being injured.
Survivors
are one daughter, Mrs. Bernard Vermiere, Green
Bay; eight
sons, Ed, Sylvester, and Arthur, of Green
Bay; Wilbur, Rt.3;
Pvt. William F. Matzke, with the family at Camp Robinson, Ark; Frank,
DePere; and Carl and Joseph at home; one sister, Mrs. Anna Fonder,
Spokane, Wash;
and three brothers, August and Paul, DePere;
and Sylvester, St. Paul, Minn.
The
body may be viewed at the residence Wednesday evening. The Ryan
Funeral home, DePere, is in charge of arrangements. Services,
which will be held at St. Mary's church here, are pending
arrival of the son from Arkansas. The Rev. CorneliusRaymaker
will conduct the rites and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
