Mathias
Matzke Has Heart Attack In Church, Dies;
Lifelong Resident of Brown County to be Buried Wednesday
Mathias
Matzke, 74, died while attending 8 o'clock Mass in SS Peter and Paul's
Church
Sunday morning. He
was afflicted with a
heart attack while kneeling in his pew, and was carried out to the
vestibule
where he was anointed and given final rites at the Catholic church by
the Rev.
William Fetko, assistant priest, who was summoned from the sacristy. He was then removed to the
hospital in the
Mohr ambulance but was pronounced dead upon his arrival there. Death is said to have
occurred almost
instantaneously.
Mr.
Matzke was a lifelong resident of Brown County. He was born in the town of
Bellevue
and farmed there for many years before retiring to Green Bay
to make his home at 1353 Day
St. He had suffered
from diabetes for
twenty years. He is
survived by his
widow and eight children, as follows;
Felix, Ray, and Matt, Jr, Green Bay;
Earl, town of DePere;
Mrs. Nick
Golueke, Allouez; Mrs.
Henry Kellner,
jr, Mrs. Edward
Kaufman, and Ms Camille
Derene, Green Bay.
Four
brothers and two sisters also survive Mr. Matzke.
The brothers are August, Paul, Philip,
DePere, and Sylvester of South St. Paul, Minn; and two sisters, Mrs.
Joseph
Kaster, DePere, and Mrs. Victor Fonder, Rockford, Wash.
Funeral
services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at SS Peter and
Paul's
church, and burial will be in the Allouez Cemetery
