SIBILLIA, Lillian M., age 81, of Blaine, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 1991. Born May 21, 1909 in Minot, North Dakota to Pearl and Lydia Grasser, she married Lawrence Sibillia October 7, 1934 in Wapato, WA; the family moved to Walla Walla, WA in 1945. Mr. Sibillia preceded her in death in 1985 and that same year she moved to Blaine to be near her son and his family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and flowers were the main loves of her life. Sewing and fishing were lifetime hobbies. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Walla Walla. Survived by 1 son, Jerry and wife Hazel Sibillia of Blaine; 3 granddaughters, Tonie and husband Wade Marlow of Bellingham, Coleen and husband Dean Anderson of Bellingham, Laura and Kim Gauthier of Enumclaw, WA; 5 great-grandchildren, Jerry, Tyler and Kristin Anderson, all of Bellingham, Valerie and Karmen Gauthier of Enumclaw, WA; 2 brothers, Willard Grasser of Vancouver, WA and Frank Shaw of California; nieces and nephews. View, died Thurs., Sept. 15, 1994 at the North Valley Nursing Home in Tonasket, WA. Born Jan. 30, 1910 in Bellingham, WA to Ralph & Josephine McIlroy. She attended West Mountain View and Ferndale schools, graduating in 1928. Following graduation, she trained as a telephone operator also did domestic work in the area. On May 9, 1935 she married Joseph C. Sibley in Bellingham, WA. For many years, she and her husband farmed near Ferndale; they also worked for the Red Top Nursery. Her husband Joseph preceded her in death in 1947. Bertha lived in Mountain View until 1966, she then moved to Oroville, WA to be near a son. In 1991, due to ill health, she entered the North Valley Nursing Home in Tonasket, WA. Survived by four sons; Michael and wife Kay of Oroville, WA, Herb and Betty of Pendleton, OR, Irvin and Betty of Kingston, WA, and Otto and Rosalee of Port Orchard, WA. Two sisters, Nora Sibley, of Ferndale and Laura Willox of Bellingham. Also 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by; 2 infant children, 2 brothers and a grandson. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 1994, 2:00 p.m. at the Greenacres Memorial Park Cemetery in Ferndale, WA. Viewing for family and friends will be at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Greenacres.
SIBLEY, Gerald Arthur, age 17, of Route 2, Ferndale, passed away Sunday, January 7, (1951) as the result of an accident. Gerald had been a resident of the Ferndale community his entire life and was a member of the Junior Class at Ferndale High School. Surviving relatives include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Sibley; two sisters, Geynelle and his twin, Geraldine, both at home; two grandmothers, Mrs. Margaret Mitchell, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Ralph McIlroy of Ferndale; numerous other relatives. Services will be conducted within the Chapel of the Monroe Mortuary in Ferndale, Saturday, January 13, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. C. G. Albertson officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
SIBLEY, Joseph C., age 43 years, resident of Ferndale, Route 2, for the past sixteen years, passed away at his home Monday morning, June 2, (1947). Survivors are the widow, Bertha; four sons, Otto, Florida; Irvin, U.S. navy, Herbert and Michael, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Mitchell, of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Kernow, Portland, Mrs. Stella Larson, of California; two brothers, James, in Ferndale, and Donald in Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be conducted at Monroe's Funeral Chapel in Ferndale, Friday, June 6, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. C. G. Albertson officiating. Burial in Greenacres Memorial Park.
SIBLEY, Luther Willard, age 69 of 505 Tucker St., Friday Harbor, passed away Monday, April 3, 1978. Mr. Sibley had been a resident of Friday Harbor for the past 18 months, formerly living in California, and was a retired rancher. He is survived by his wife, Juanita L. Sibley. Funeral services were held Wed. April 5 at 11:30 a.m. in Jones Funeral Home. Interment Greenacres Memorial Park.
SICKLER, Alfreda Fredlund, age 59, Sedro Woolley resident since 1939, died at United General Hospital Sunday, Oct. 29, (1978) following a long illness. Born Nov. 23, 1918 in Mount Vernon, she lived much of her young girlhood in Saxon area until she married Grant Sickler in 1939, when she moved to Sedro Woolley. She was a member of Cyrene Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a Girl Scout leader. Surviving are her husband, Grant; three daughters, Lorraine Reinke of Miami, Florida, Geri Heino of Issaquah, and Margie Groves of Bremerton; two sisters, Carol Kincl of Seattle and Roberta Ostrom of Sedro Woolley; three brothers, Gordon Fredlund of Burlington, Hal Fredlund of Lynnwood and Al Fredlund of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Lemley Chapel in Sedro Woolley with the Rev. Carlos Shafer, of Mount Vernon, officiating, followed by interment in Sedro Woolley IOOF Cemetery.
SICKLES, Walter M., 69, of Bellingham died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999. He was born Dec. 1, 1929, to Robert and Viola (Gatzmeyer) Sickles in Steamboat Springs, Colo. Mr. Sickles was a retired chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy and a Bellingham resident since 1973. He is survived by daughters Elizabeth Kline of Ephrata, Kathleen Wiggins of Bellingham, Denise Connors of Phoenix, Ariz., and Angela Salgado of Ferndale brothers Charles Sickles of Colorado Springs, Colo., and William Sickles of Hyattsville, Md. his former wife, Dolores Dominguez of Ferndale eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held. Arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
SICKLESTEEL, Charles L., age 75 years, late of 3712 Northwest Avenue, passed away Monday, November 11, (1946). Mr. Sicklesteel came to Whatcom County in 1893 and was a fisherman and farmer. He is survived by one brother, Dr. George Sicklesteel, of Mount Vernon, Wash., and one nephew, Jack, also of Mount Vernon. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where service will be conducted by Rev. A. A. Hamilton, Thursday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Lynden Cemetery.
SICKLESTEEL, Ella, age 93, died Oct. 25, (1979) in Mt. Vernon. She came to Lynden in 1903 and married George Sicklesteel Oct. 18, 1908 in Bellingham. He preceded her in death in 1956. She had been a resident of Mt. Vernon since 1921. Survivors included a son, Jack L. Sicklesteel of Mt. Vernon; 1 grandson; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews. SIDDLE, Anne M. - Long-time Ferndale resident Anne May Siddle, 92, of 5124 Elder Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1992, in Bellingham. She was born May 2, 1899, in Cambridge, Ohio, to Andrew and Sarah Campbell. She married John W. Siddle in 1922 in Cambridge. He died in November 1982. She had lived in Ferndale since 1924. Mrs. Siddle was a member of the United Church of Ferndale; Ferndale Chapter 223, Order of Eastern Star; and the Ferndale Senior Center Jet Oldsters. Survivors include her daughters June Amundson of Ferndale; Sarah Palmer of Seattle and Phyllis Siddle of Riverside, Calif.; her son David Siddle of Salt Lake City, Utah; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Friday in Moles Funeral Home Chapel, 2039 Main St., Ferndale. The Rev. Richard Wyanski will officiate. SIDDLE, John W., (Jack) age 82 of 2186 Siddle Street, Ferndale, passed away at home Saturday, November 6, 1982. Jack had been a resident of Ferndale since 1925; was a member of the United Church of Ferndale; a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge; member and Past Master of the Ferndale Lodge, No. 264, F & AM; member of the Scottish Rite; Past Patron of the Ferndale Eastern Star; member of Ferndale Jet Oldsters; Past President of the Old Settlers Association; and had been active in community affairs for many years. He is survived by his wife, Anne of Ferndale; 1 son, David Siddle of San Lus Potosi, Mexico; 3 daughters; June & her husband Ray Amundson of Ferndale; Sarah Lou & her husband Edwin Palmer of Seattle; Phyllis Siddle of Riverside California; 1 sister, Ada Dearth of Lore City, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. SIDEN, Edwin Anton, age 84, died at home Tues., March 11, 1997 following a short illness. He was born April 19, 1912 to Anton & Julia (Tack) Siden on the mailboat between Lummi Island and Bellingham. A graduate of Bellingham High School, he married Elnora Graham on Sept. 21, 1934 in Bellingham. He was skilled in electrical and refrigeration repairs, working first in Mount Vernon, Wenatchee and then back to Bellingham working for Thiel and Welter. He later became manager of the appliance repair department at Columbia Valley, a division of Georgia Pacific until his retirement. Mr. Siden was a devoted member of the Bellingham Advent Christian Church, serving on the board of trustees for several years. He also served as host for Tues. Bible Study, the Men's Bible Group, and the Thursday Men's Prayer Group. A 50 year member of the Masons, he was a life member of the Nile Temple and a member of AARP. He served as an active member of the United States Coast Guard Reserve, and was discharged in 1945. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time at Waldron Island and Lost River cabins which he helped construct. He also enjoyed traveling and taking several trailer trips throughout the United States with his wife and cousins, Frank and Roberta Tack. He was a "frequent flyer" with son David, once vacationing throughout Baja Mexico. Mr. Siden was preceded in death by his wife Elnora, two brothers, Wilfred and Gordon, and a grandson, Patrick Siden. Survived by sons, David & wife Bonnie Siden, Richard & wife Carol Siden; daughters, Julie Cummins, Katherine & husband Charles Lawrence all of Bellingham; 10 grandchildren, Michael & Joyce Siden, Colleen & husband Richard Miller, Trevor & Raney Siden, Brenda & husband Dana Nelson and Greg Russell all of Bellingham, Steven & wife Diana Russell, Lynn & husband Bill Engelhardt all of Medical Lake, WA; Connie & husband Paul Wachter and Christina Lawrence, all of New Bern, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Brent & Hailey Siden, Danielle Nelson, Vincent Russell, Kourtney Pope, all of Bellingham; Amanda, Steven and Miricle Russell of Newport, WA, Erick Wachter of New Bern, N.C.; sister Winifred Rudd; sister-in-law, Altha Siden; brothers-in-law, Stanley and Gordon Graham, all of Bellingham; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Siden was a "doer", constantly helping those in need and was the person who kept his church in shape in a mechanical ways. A compassionate deeply caring and loving individual, he was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed greatly by his family and his many loyal friends made throughout his days spent on this earth. SIDEN, Elnora Elizabeth - Born to Howard and Cora Graham near Bellingham November 28, 1914, died in [a] local hospital August 8, 1992. Attended local schools and a graduate of Whatcom High School. Married Edwin Siden September 21, 1934. Survived by her husband of the family home, 1700 Humboldt St., Bellingham; four children, David and wife Bonnie of Bellingham, Julie Cummins of Spokane, Katherine and husband Charles of Bellingham, Richard and wife Carol of Bellingham; 10 grandchildren and 8 grandchildren; brothers, Standley Graham, Howard and Gordon Graham, all of Bellingham and numerous other relatives including Leora Gallanger of Oregon, a favorite cousin. Membership: First Advent Christian Church, Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society, and served as weekly bible study hostess. Member of Maple Leaf Chapter #58 Order of Eastern Star and of the Daughters of the Nile. Enjoyments: Knitting, crocheting, sewing, flying with her son Dave, traveling throughout the United States, spending vacations on Waldron Island and at Lost River. She will be greatly missed by her husband and family and many friends. Participation in life, especially these past years following retirement brought many pleasures to her, and from her to those she loved and cared for. SIDEN, Gordon J., 70, of 2301 H St., a lifetime resident of Bellingham, died Monday (Aug. 21, 1989) in a Bellingham nursing home. At the family's request, no services will be held. Ashes will be buried in Bayview Cemetery. Mr. Siden was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Bellingham. He was an appliance repairman for Columbia Valley Lumber, an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Altha; a daughter, Barbara Richey of Fruitland, Idaho; a brother, Ed Siden of Bellingham; a sister, Winifred Rudd of Bellingham; and one grandchild. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.
SIDEN, Hilma J., age 54 years, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday, May 20, (1945). Mrs. Siden was here from Rockford, Ill., visiting at Beach, Lummi Island. Deceased was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Rockford and leaves the following survivors: Three sons, Evert, Jean and Kenneth; two daughters, Dorothea Johnson and Betty Jane Siden, all at Rockford, Ill., and one brothers, Carl Lewis at Chicago. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth and will be forwarded to Rockford for services and interment.
SIDEN, Julia M., age 65 years of 1905 James Street passed away at the family home Saturday, September 24, (1960) following an extended illness. Mrs. Siden had resided in Bellingham for the past 55 years, was a member of the Church of the Assumption, the Altar Society, the Legion of Mary and St. Anne's Circle. Survivors include two son, Edwin A. and Gordon; one daughter, Mrs. Winnifred Rudd, all of this city; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; also three brothers, Joe Tack of Cloverdale, B.C. and Jules and the Rev. Victor Tack, both in Belgium; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be said Monday, September 26, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Requiem High Mass will be sung Tuesday, September 27, at 8:30 a.m. in the Church of the Assumption. Interment, Bay View Cemetery.

SIDWELL, James J., age 37 years, a resident of the Ferndale community since 1929, passed away Sunday, September 16, (1951) in San Francisco, Calif., following a brief illness. Mr. Sidwell was a member of the U. S. Merchant Marine during World War II and for the last two years had been in Saudi Arabia. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Sidwell, of Ferndale; two sisters, Mrs. Martha James, of Seattle, and Mrs. Irene Bakkom of Bellingham; one brother, John Sidwell, of the U.S. Navy; also three nephews. SIDWELL, Lucille M., age 88 of Ferndale, passed away in Bellingham on Saturday, March 15, 2003. Mrs. Sidwell was born July 8, 1914 in Beatrice, Nebraska. She was a Ferndale area resident since 1954, moving with Mobil Oil from Torrance, CA. Her warm smile will be deeply missed. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Wayne C. Sidwell in December of 1996. Survivors include her three sons, Bruce Sidwell and his wife Audrey A. of Ferndale, Robert Sidwell and his wife Marlene of Kalama, and Gary Sidwell and his wife Doris of Ferndale; three grandchildren, Steve Sidwell and his wife Katie, Leah and her husband Bob Logan, and Brad Sidwell and his wife Debbie; three great-grandchildren; Derick Conklin Sidwell, Tanner Sidwell and Austin Logan. SIEFKE, Arthur H., 81 of 4232 Ankar Park Dr., Bellingham, WA, passed away Tues., Aug. 25, 1992 at Alderwood Park Conv. Center. He was born Aug. 16, 1911 at Connell, WA to Henry and Martha Siefke. He came to Whatcom Co. in 1918 with his parents and has lived here except for 18 yrs. at Camano Is. after he retired in 1972 from ONC Freight Co. where he was the dispatcher for 35 yrs. In 1935 he married Leone Byrd in Bellingham, WA. Mr. Siefke was in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945. He was past president of F O Eagles #31 and a member for 53 yrs., life member of Elk #194, a member of The VFW #1585, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife Leone Siefke of the family home; a sister Minnie Wahlstrand of Bellingham; 5 god-children, Rob Tiplin, Juliana Tiplin Sleeth, Mark Arthur Tiplin Sr. and Deborah Johansen Neyens; in-laws, Joyce and Bob Tiplin, Edna and Kaare Eckrem and Clark and Betty Byrd; 12 nieces and nephews; 34 great nieces and nephews; 7 great great nieces and nephews. He dearly loved his nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 31, 1992, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mark Earl officiating and the Rev. SIEFKE, Leone Lois Byrd, age 88, passed away December 25, 2002 at Highland Convalescent Center. She was born April 14, 1914 in White Bluffs, WA to Eula and Julia (Craig) Byrd. She moved with her family to Bellingham in 1924 where she lived most of her life. She lived 15 years on Camano Island and moved back to Bellingham in 1990. Leone married Arthur Siefke in 1935 in Bellingham. He preceded her in death in 1992 after 57 years of marriage. She was a 50-year member of the Eagles Auxiliary serving both as president and district president. She was a long time member of the Eagles Drill Team, a member and past president of St. Anne's Guild and member of Daughters of the King at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Leone was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers Mily Byrd and wife Isabelle and Clark Byrd, three nephews and one niece. She is survived by her sisters, Edna Eckrem of Camano Is., Joyce Tiplin of Bellingham; sisters-in-law, Betty Byrd, Minnie Wahlstrand of Bellingham; nephews, Larry Byrd of Colorado, Rob Tiplin and wife Deanna of Bellevue, Mark Tilin and wife Song Hui of California; special great nephew Mark Tiplin, Jr. of Stafford, VA; nieces, Judy and husband John Johansen of Ferndale, Donna and husband Ken Woolf of Deming, Byrde and husband Lowell Stordahl of Camano Is., Karla and husband Tom Carlson of Mukilteo, Joyce Eckrem of Sacramento, CA, Julie and husband Bill Sleeth of Gig Harbor, Betty and husband Wally Hartness of Mt. Mr. Sieforth was a member of the Baptist Church in Dalla, Ore., the United Aritisans and the K.O.T.M. in Rickreall, Ore. SIGARS, Denzil B. - Retired veterinarian Denzil B. Sigars, 70, of 1081 W. Laurel Road, Ferndale, died Thursday at Mt. Baker Care Center. He was born to Lester and Lillian Sigars on Aug. 23, 1920, in Waco, Mo., where he grew up. He lived during most of his career in Higginsville, Mo. He lived in Whatcom County for 15 years. Dr. Sigars graduated in 1942 from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He earned his doctor's degree in veterinary medicine at Michigan State University at East Lansing in 1944. He was a veterinarian for 20 years, and was president of a veterinary pharmaceutical company in Higginsville for 10 years. He worked in Whatcom County as a veterinary officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1977 to 1982, when he retired. He was a member of First Christian Church of Bellingham for the past 15 years and a former member of the American Veterinarian Medical Association. He married Eunice Longston on June 20, 1943, in Carl Junction, Mo. She survives him. Other survivors include one son, Denny Sigars of Missoula, Mont.; a daughter, Lucy Sigars of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandchildren; a brother, Keith Sigars of Davie, Fla.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church, 495 E. Bakerview Road, with the Rev. Richard Talley officiating. SIGFUSSON, Frimann K., age 81, of 2909 Cody St., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Oct. 18, (1956). Mr. Sigfusson had resided in Bellingham for the past 39 years, was a retired decorating contractor and former pioneer merchant, was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, of the Kara, Icelandic Literary Society, and a charter member of the Icelandic Lutheran Church at Blaine. SIGFUSSON, Magnus Theodore, Sr. - A funeral for Magus "Ted" Sigfusson of 3610 Connelly Ave. will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Mr. Sigfusson died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1993, in Bellingham. He was 72. Born Jan. 29, 1921, to Frimann and Josephine Sigfusson in Bellingham, he grew up in the Fairhaven area. Mr. Sigfusson was corporate office manager and secretary for Johnson-Lieber Inc. in Seattle for 27 years. He returned to Bellingham in 1985. SIGFUSSON, S. Kristinn (Kris), of Chico and Pleasanton, Calif., passed away Aug, 24, 1994 in Chico, CA. He was born in Bellingham, WA of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. K. Sigfusson. Reared and schooled in Bellingham and Seattle, WA, he retired as Vice President of Finance and Administration of the Packaging Industries Incorporated of San Leandro, CA. His career lay in Finance, mainly in the Packaging field where he spent many years in San Mateo, Fullerton, and Pleasanton, CA. He leaves to survive his beloved wife Alice; daughter, Cindy; son-in-law David Ennis and two grandchildren; one brother, Wm. Jennings; five sisters, M. SIGMEN, Elsie Edith of 2726 Alderwood Ave., Bellingham, died on April 22, (1994) at the age of 83. Elsie Edith Knapman was born in 1910 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, the youngest of four sisters and one brother. In 1929 she emigrated with her parents to Bellingham, Washington and for several years worked in a neighborhood store. In 1953 she married Wilfred (Fred) Sigmen who died in 1984. She joined the First Baptist Church in 1930 and for many years sang in the church choir and was a member of the Dorcas Circle. She is survived by a sister, Lillian Pozzi of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a brother, Fred Knapmand and his wife Frances of Bellingham, nieces Joanne Praetzel and Janet Harris of Bellingham. A nephew Robert Foot of Calgary, two grandnieces, two grand nephews, and one great grand nephew. She will be buried beside her husband in Bayview Cemetery with a graveside service conducted by Rev. Keith Madsen on April 25, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. arrangements by Jerns-LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

He had been a lifetime resident of Bellingham & belonged to the Assumption Catholic Church & K. Of C. Council 829, & was retired from the Sanitary Meat Company where he had worked from 1918 to 1967. SIGURDSON, Christian L., age 78 of 2905 Connelly Ave., Bellingham, Wa., passed away November 1, 1993 in Bellingham. He was born Oct. 18, 1915 in Crescent, B.C., Canada to Oscar and Thora Sigurdson. Mr. Sigurdson was a retired shipwright and a member of Local Union #1184 and Carpenters and Joiners of America for more than 44 years. He was a veteran of WWII, honorably discharged from service with the U.S. Army Aviation Engineers serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from 1943 to 1945. He is survived by his sister, and husband Esther H. M. and Paul Halldorson of Bellingham; nieces Janette and husband Jack Parker, Westminster, CA and Cynthia and husband Stuart Johnson, Kirkland, WA; grandniece Constance Knoche and grandnephews Christopher Parker and Adam and Brendan Johnson. Sgt. Sigurdson lived in Bellingham from 1935 to 1939. In 1939 he moved to Seattle where he graduated from Broadway high school and was chosen Man of the Year in 1941. Surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Lara A. Sigurdson, of Bellingham; one brother, John J., at home; one sister, Mrs. Jessie V. Ferry, of Seattle, and one nephew, Ben Ferry, of Seattle. SILVES, Alice J., age 72, of 2737 Orleans, Bellingham, died March 11, 1992, at home. She was born March 25, 1919 in Custer, WA. She married her husband Jack in Olympia on January 9, 1937. She is survived by her husband Jack, a son, Ronald Silves of Buckley, WA, daughters Peggy Meyer of Puyallup and Bonnie Westergreen and husband Tom of Sumas, a brother, Gunnar Jerns and wife Nina of Caine Lake, sisters Adelia Nielsen and husband Bill, Helga Miller and husband Ray and Clara Yonally and husband Quentin all of Bellingham. Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Eskil and John Jern. Graveside services will be March 13, 1992, 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Rev. SILVES, Clarence J., age 72 of Everson, WA, passed away April 10, 1994 at the family home. He was born Dec. 8, 1921 in Clayburn, B.C., Canada to James A. and Mary D. Walker Silves and has been a lifetime area resident. Mr. Silves retired from the Whatcom County Road Dept. after 30 years on the Dept. and was a member of the Teamster's Union Local No. 231. He married Viola Metcalf in Nooksack Oct. 25, 1941. Survivors are his wife Viola Silves of the family home; sons Richard and his wife Etta Silves of Bellingham, Clayton and his wife Kathy Silves of Everson; daughters Pat and her husband Dennis Heinrick of Ferndale, Lydia Robbins of Bellingham, Irene and her husband Steve Higbee of Everson and Diane Silves of Lynden; eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers Jack Silves, Albert Silves and Jordan Silves. He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Silves in 1988, three brothers and two sisters. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 1994, in the Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel followed by interment at Nooksack Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. (From The Bellingham Herald, 12 Apr 1994) Submitted by Merrily Lawson.SILVES, Jack Theodore - A graveside service for Jack Theodore Silves of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn Cemetery near Ferndale, with the Rev. Carl Crouse officiating. Mr. Silves died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his home. He was 86. Born Sept. 2, 1914, to Mary (Walker) and Jim Silves in Langley Prairie, he lived in Whatcom County most of his life. On Jan. 9, 1937, he married Alice Jern. Mr. Silves owned a farm in Sumas before moving to Bellingham, where he was an auto body worker until his retirement. In his spare time, he refurbished cars. He enjoyed fishing and reading. His wife and eight sisters and brothers died previously. Survivors include daughter Bonnie Westergreen of Sumas and Peggy Smith of Puyallup son Ronald Silves of Buckley three grandchildren three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Jerns Funeral Chapel.

Born Jan. 26, 1892, in Butler County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Silves moved to Whatcom County in 1910. Mrs. Silves preceded him in death in 1946. He is survived by six sons, Jack of Bellingham, Albert and Lawrence of Van Zandt, Walter of Sequim and Clarence and Jordon of Everson; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Eldred of Forks and Mrs. Leona Eldred of Lummi Island; two brothers, Charles in New York and ___ in Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Moser in Pennsylvania; 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ben Davis officiating. Interment in the Sumas Cemetery.

Born in Bellingham, Jeffrey had attended the Nooksack valley Baptist church with his parents. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Tracy and Laura at home, grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Jordan Silves of Everson and Mr. & Mrs. Don Wells of Sumas, great-grandparents, Mrs. Georgia Henderson of Lynden and Mrs. Christina Wolff of Terry, Montana, numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday July 9 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funereal Home with rev. John Ruhlman officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumas Cemetery.
SILVES, Lawrence H., age 60 of 7487 Emmerson Rd., Everson, passed away suddenly at his home on Sun. Dec. 23, (1979). A lifetime Whatcom County resident, Mr. Silves was a retired section hand for the Milwaukee Railroad. He was married to Janice Dynes in VanZandt on Sept. 11, 1954. He is survived by his wife Janice; 2 sons Joseph of Buckley and Lawrence Jr. at home; a daughter, Diantha Silves at home; 5 brothers, Jack of Bellingham, Albert of VanZandt, Walt of Humptula, Wash., & Clarence & Jordan both of Everson; 2 sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Eldred of Bellingham, and Mrs. Leona Eldred of Port Angeles, and numerous nieces and nephews. SILVES, Mary D., age 54 years, of route 2, Everson, passed away Tuesday, April 9, (1946) following a long illness. Mrs. Silves had been a resident of the Everson and Sumas districts for the past 30 years and is survived by her husband, James I.; two daughters, Miss Leona Silves, Sumas, Mrs. Evelyn Young, Van Zandt; six sons, Jack, Albert, Walter, Lawrence, all of Sumas, Clarence and Jordon, both of Nooksack; also fifteen grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 12, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas. Interment in the Sumas Cemetery.
SILVES, Richard "Dick", age 66 of Bellingham passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. He was born on May 21, 1942 in Bellingham to Clarence and Viola (Metcalf) Silves. Dick graduated from Nooksack High School in 1960 and married the love of his life, Etta Kortus on June 22, 1962 in Everson. Dick worked for 40 years at Georgia Pacific. Farming was his passion, but he also enjoyed golfing and fishing. He had a very big heart and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; son, Matthew Silves; and brother, Wayne Silves. He is survived by his wife Etta Silves; sons Mick, Martin (Bobbie), and Mark (Jan) Silves; mother Vi Silves; sister Pat Heinrick (Dennis), Lydia Robbins, and Irene Higbee (Steve); brother Clayton Silves (Kathy): sister-in-law Diane Silves; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and very close friends who meant the world to him. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Deming Log Show Museum. Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home, Memorial Park and On-site Crematory.

He was born March 27, 1950 in Bellingham and was a lifetime Whatcom County resident, a 1968 graduate of Nooksack Valley High School and attended Bellingham Vo-Tech. He worked for Sturtz Inc., Al Haak and established Everson Electric in November 1981. He married Diane Groen on April 2, 1971. He was an active member of Nooksack Valley Baptist Church and passed member of International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Local No. 191 Union. Survivors include his wife Diane; his children Tanya, Trisha, Tyler, his parents Clarence and Viola of Everson; brothers Rich and Etta Silves of Bellingham, Clayton and Kathy Silves of Everson; sisters Pat and Dennis Heimrich, Lydia Robbins of Bellingham; Irene and Steve Higbee of Everson. Grandparents include Esther Metcalf and Gertrude VanBeek; 30 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 12, 1 p.m. at the Nooksack Valley Baptist Church, Everson. "Bill" Silves died Monday, Jan. 18, 1993, at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley. He was 70. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Military graveside memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery by members of George Baldridge Post No. 43, American Legion. Mr. Silves was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Calyburn, B.C., to John and Lillie Mae Trowsdale Silves. The family moved to Sumas when he was an infant and then to Sedro-Woolley in 1936. A graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School, he enlisted in the Navy and was aboard the USS Raleigh stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, during the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941. He married Margaret Mestmaker in 1944. They moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1947. Mr. Silves worked as a driver for Orowheat Foods Co. for 32 years. An avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, he worked as a guide on the Skagit River and helped start the Skagit River Guides Association. Survivors include his wife of the family home; daughter Carol Rowland of Concrete; sons Bill Silves of Mount Vernon and Kirk Silves of Sedro-Woolley; sister Helen Lamarsch of Alger; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts and uncles. Arrangements by Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.
SILVIS, Laurens, age 66 of Lynden, Rt. 1, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday, June 23, (1954) following a short illness. He had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past 11 years. He is survived by his wife Minnie, one daughter Katherine at home, two sons, Leonard of Hollandale, Minn., Lawrence at home; a sister, Lena Vierhout of Hull, Iowa, two sisters and four brothers in The Netherlands; two granddaughters. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 26, at 2 p.m. from the Third Christian Reform Church in Lynden with the Rev. F. W. Van Houten officiating. Interment, Monumenta Cemetery, under direction of the Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.
SILVIS, Minnie - Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Silvis, age 83, formerly of 127 East Front Street, Lynden were conducted on Wednesday, March 31, at 2:00 p.m. in the Third Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gerrit W. Sheeres officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Born in the Netherlands, Mrs. Silvis, who died in a Lynden nursing home on Saturday, March 27, (1982) moved to South Dakota in 1911 and then to Whatcom County with her late husband Laurens in 1943. A member of the Third Christian Reformed Church, she is survived by a son Lawrence and wife Bertha of Everson; a step-son, Leonard and wife Gertie of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a daughter, Mrs. Katherine and husband Joe Honcoop of Lynden; five grand and two great-grandchildren; a brother, John Bos and wife Bertha of Sumas; a sister, Mrs. Tillie and husband case Vreugdenhil of Lynden and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded by a son John in 1953. Funeral services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.
SILVUS, Charles E., age 84, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alma Young, of 1225 Grant Street Thursday, April 23, (1953). Mr. Silvus had resided here for the past two years and was a retired blacksmith. Besides his daughter, he leaves to survive, one son, George Silvus, of Pillager, Minnesota; two other daughters, Mrs. Ethel Cole, of this city, and Mrs. Daisy Love, of Lincoln, Neb.; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ira Silvus, of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister, Mrs. Jim White, of Smithland, Iowa. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the pastor, Oscar A. Jacobson, Tuesday, April 28, at 1:00 p.m. Final resting place, Lynden Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Lyle Clair, Gene and Henry Smith, Forest Scott and Leo Hallmark.
