OAKES, Anna L. of Ferndale died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1994, in Bellingham. She was 100. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Enterprise Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Wyanski officiating. Born Oct. 17, 1893, to Lars and Mary Larson in Colfax, Wis., she moved to Whatcom County in 1906. She married Earl M. Oakes on Oct. 18, 1913. They farmed all of their lives. Mrs. Oakes was an active member of United Church of Ferndale. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; by two sisters, Laura Stark and Cora Pehrson; and two sons, Harold W. Oakes and Stuart M. Oakes. Survivors include son Francis Oakes of Ferndale; daughter-in-law Victoria Oakes of Bellingham; sister Gladys Erickson of Ferndale; granddaughters Marianne Ott of Seattle and Paula Lingenfelter of Boise, Idaho; and grandsons Terry Oakes and Michael Oakes, both of Ferndale. He was employed as a painter in the Whatcom Co. area and was a resident of the area for 10 years. A U.S. Air Force Veteran he is survived by his wife, Lorna of Sedro Woolley. 1 son, Jefrae of Calif. 1 daughter, Sherrie. 1 brother David Oakes of Deming. 4 sisters; Christy Hammett, Lou Ellen Abercrombie, Dorinda Jackson, Sally Grayla and his mother Mrs. Letha Stanley all of Calif. Graveside services will be conducted Thurs., March 30 at the VanZandt Cemetery under the direction of Veroskes Bellingham Chapel.
OAKES, Earl - Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon by Rev. John Haygood in Moles Funeral Chapel for Earl M. Oakes. He was 84 years old at the time of his death. Mr. Oakes moved to the present farm in the Mountain View district at 2681 Douglas Rd., in 1898 with his parents, residing thee continuously until he passed away Nov. 10, (1971). He was born in Nov. 12, 1886 in Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Anna; three sons, Francis and Harold of Ferndale, and Stuart of Bellingham; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Interment was at Enterprise Cemetery.
OAKES, Francis Earl, age 91, passed away in Ferndale on Sunday, February 19, 2006. He was born on February 12, 1915, in Ferndale, WA to Earl and Anna Oakes. Francis married Rosetta Linker on December 4, 1941. He spent many years as the owner/operator of a fuel oil distributing business. Francis was a congenial and outgoing man and enjoyed eating with his friends at various Ferndale restaurants. He liked to hunt, fish, and watch baseball, and especially enjoyed riding horses with his wife, Rosetta, in rodeos and at races. Francis is preceded in death by Rosetta and his brothers, Harold and Stuart. He is survived by his sons Terry and Michael, both of Ferndale. A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2006, 12-1 p.m. at Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. in the Greenacres Chapel. A Graveside Committal will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park.

Mr. Oakes had been a resident of the Ferndale Community since 1897. He is survived by two brothers, Earl and Abel, both of Ferndale; three nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 4, at 2 p.m., from the Monroe Funeral Chapel, of Ferndale, with the Rev. George Baird officiating. Interment, Enterprise Cemetery.
OAKES, Guy C., age 75, formerly of 615 Garden St., passed away in a Newport, Wash., hospital Wednesday, May 18, (1960). Mr. Oakes was a retired apartment house manager; had resided in Bellingham for 40 years prior to moving to Cusick in 1955; was a member of the Immanuel Bible Church. Survivors are his widow, Anna J., at home; one daughter, Mrs. Marianne Willey, of Cusick; one granddaughter, Miss Julie Ann Willey, of Cusick; one brother, James Oakes of Everett; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Oakes of Spokane and Mrs. Laura Murdock, in California. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. C. C. Hovda Monday, May 23 at 10 a.m. Final resting place Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.
OAKES, Harold Wesley "Shorty" age 71, of 2681 Douglas Rd., Ferndale, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 1987. He was born Sept. 12, 1916 in Ferndale where he was a lifetime resident. He was a member of Kulshan Post No. 154 American Legion and the D.A.V. He was in WWII & spent 4 yrs. in Germany. Survivors include his mother, Anna Oakes of Ferndale; brother, Francis of Ferndale; 2 nephews, Terry & Michael Oakes of Ferndale; sister-in-law, Victoria Oakes of Bellingham; 2 nieces, Marianne Ott of Seattle & Paula Foster of Oregon; 2 aunts, Gladys Erickson of Ferndale & Laura Starck of Bellingham. OAKES, Rosetta Bernice - The funeral for Rosetta Bernice Oakes, 74, of 3351 Mountain View Road, Ferndale, was Friday at Moles Funeral Home. Burial was in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Oakes died Nov. 18, (1991) in a Bellingham Hospital. She was born Nov. 30, 1916 in Ritzville to George and Catherine Linker. She moved to Whatcom County in 1926. She married Francis E. Oakes Dec. 4, 1941, in Ferndale. He survives her at the family home. Mrs. Oakes worked for many years at Kelly Farquhar Food Processing in Ferndale. She was an avid bowler. Other survivors include her sons, Terry Oakes and Michael Oakes of Ferndale; her brother, Arthur Linker of Bellingham; sisters Elma Carmichael, Victoria Bacon and Geraldine Todaro of Ferndale, and Helen Fry of Bellingham; and numerous nieces and nephews. OAKES, Virgil B., age 82, of Seattle, passed away Thursday, January 21, 1993. Born November 12, 1910 in Alberta, Canada to William and Emma Oakes, he was a former resident of Whatcom County, moving to Seattle in 1954; World War II, U.S. Army veteran. Survived by sister Vivian Goodman of Bellingham; niece Leanne Steputis and nephew Gary Oakes, both of Seattle, WA; numerous cousins. Graveside service will be Wednesday, January 27, 1993, 2 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park with Reverend David Erickson officiating.

Survivors include parents Drew and Michael Betz of Bellingham and Glen Oakley of Vashon, siblings Ben Betz, Erica and Daniel West, and Tiffany Oakley; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Her surviving grandparents are Donna and Jim Daulph of Bellingham and Madelon Oakley of Seattle. Kate graduated from Olympia High School in 1995 and was a student at South Seattle C.C. She loved books, music and film, and had many dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held June 1, 2002, 10:30 a.m. at Shoreline UU Church, 14724 1st Ave. NE, Shoreline.
OAKS, William Wesley, age 57, who resided at 3850 128th Ave. Southeast Bellevue, Wash., passed away suddenly at the family residence on Wednesday, June 4, (1958). Mr. Oaks had resided in Bellingham for 53 years, having moved to Bellevue two years ago. He was a member of the Bellingham Lodge No. 44, F. & A. M., B.P.O.E. No. 194. He was a marine engineer for the Foss Tug & Barge Co. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Clara Oaks of Bellevue; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Yorkston of Bellingham; one son, William Oaks in the United States Navy, his mother, Mrs. Katherine Oaks of Seattle. Dr. W. Carl Calhoun will officiate at funeral services Monday, June 9, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home. Members of the Bellingham B.P.O.E. OATES, Edith, age 86, passed away in a local hospital Friday, December 9, (1955). Mrs. Oates had resided in this community for the past 50 years, and was a member of the Congregational Church. Mr. Oates had resided in this community for the past 48 years and was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Carpenters and Joiners Union Local No. 756. Oban, 69, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1972. Mrs. Oban was a member of the Blaine Methodist Church and resided in Blaine for about 35 years. Her children were graduates of Blaine High School. She is survived by a son Edward of Honolulu; a daughter Mattie Oban Sturtz of Bellingham; sisters Sarah Mercer of Santa Rosa, Calif., Hattie Andrus of Blaine, Mattie Richards of Seattle and Jane Rasmussen of Kona, Hawaii; brothers Harvey Messenger of Bellingham and John Messenger of Sedro Woolley; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were made by Jerns Funeral Home.
OBAN, Edward Walter, 80, a Blaine native, has died in Hemet, Calif. Oban died Thursday (12 Oct 1989) at the Hemet Valley Medical Center. He was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Blaine and moved to Hemet this year. He once had been a city councilman in Kirkland. Survivors include one sister, Mattie Stuartz of Bellingham; his wife, Bonita Oban of Hemet; one daughter, Velcie Oban of Texas; and two sons, Ned Oban of Hawaii and Jimmy Oban of Oklahoma. The body is to be cremated.
OBENCHAIN, Mary C., age 68 years, of 1708 C Street, passed away at a local hospital Friday, July 4th, (1952) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Obenchain had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 32 years. She is survived by her husband, S. Roy Obenchain; one son, Donald C. Tully, of Missoula, Mont.; 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters, in Kansas. Private funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 7th at 4 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. W. OBENCHAIN, S. Roy, age 72 years of 706 11th St. passed away in a local hospital Friday, Nov. 13, (1959) following a short illness. Mr. Obenchain was a retired butcher and a resident of Bellingham for many years. He was a member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 194. Survived by 1 daughter Mrs. Margaret McFarlane of Coffeeville, Kansas. OBENHOFER, Eloda Brown, age 79, former resident of the Bow-Edison and Stanwood area, died Mon., May 23, (1977) in a Sedro Woolley Convalescent Center. She was born July 26, 1897 in Oldham, So. Dakota and there married Charles L. Brown on Nov. 22, 1915. She moved to Washington in 1938. Mr. Brown died in 1959. Her marriage to Frank Obenhofer took place in May, 1962 in Stanwood. Mr. Obenhofer died in Dec. 1962. Mrs. Obenhofer was a retired cook and had formerly been employed at Burlington-Edison High School and Northern State Hospital. She was a member of the Stanwood Lutheran Church and past worthy matron of Stanwood Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Virginia) Rauch, Sedro Woolley, Mrs. C. William (Lela) Shuirman, Sedro Woolley and Mrs. Edgar (Madge) Hyatt, Enumclaw, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Lela Barber, Pomona, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother Karl Baker in 1974. Funeral services will be held Thurs., May 26 at 2 p.m. at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington. Interment will follow in the Bow Cemetery with Pastor Bill Bates officiating.

Mr. Oberg was a commercial fisherman and leaves to survive his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Oberg of this city; 2 brothers, Helmer of Seattle and Howard of Camas, Wash.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Arthur Souve of city; Mrs. Florence Anderson of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Mrs. John Coutre of Camas, and numerous nieces and nephews. OBERG, Geri - Funeral services for Geri Oberg, 75, of 449 15th St., will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Central Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leonard C. Ericksen and Dennis Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Bayview Cemetery. Mrs. Oberg was born Sept. 7, 1914, in Bellingham, where she lived all her life. She was a member of the Central Lutheran Church, the Aftermath Club and Chapter AB P.E.O., a philanthropic organization. Mrs. Oberg was also a member of the Seaview Garden Club, the Lady Lions Club, the American Association of University Women, and the Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58, Order of the Eastern Star, the female branch of the Masonic Order. Mrs. Oberg was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Survivors include her husband, Ernst of the family home; a daughter, Catherine L. Oberg of 680 Telegraph Road; a son, Michael R. Kenneth Daugs of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Mrs. Oberg, 97, of 3121 Squalicum Parkway died Wednesday (Aug. 17, 1988) in Bellingham. She was born Sept. 7, 1890, in Armstrong, Iowa. Mrs. Oberg was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.
OBERG, Herbert William, age 30, of Seattle, passed away suddenly in that city Monday, May 21, (1951). Mr. Oberg was a veteran of World War II and a former resident of Anchorage, Alaska. Surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Oberg, McGrath, Alaska; three sisters, Mrs. Victor Ogren and Mrs. Arthur Souve, both of Bellingham, and Mrs. Ed Anderson, of Cordova, Alaska; three bothers, Arvid of Petersburg, Alaska, Hilmer of Seattle, and Howard of Chicago. OBERG, Hilma C., age 72 of 18524 35th N. E., Seattle, passed away Sunday April 15, 1979. Mrs. Oberg was a Whatcom County resident of 35 years, a retired cook, member of the Culinary workers & Bartenders Union Local No. 451. She is survived by her son, Francis LaRose, Seattle; 2 sisters, Christine of Colfax, Wisconsin and Signa of Eau Clair, Wisconsin, 1 grandson, Greg LaRose of Seattle, numerous nieces and nephews including Anna Boice of Lynden and Wanda Ackerlund of Oak Harbor. OBERG, John G., 101, 1509 E. Victor St., died in Bellingham Saturday (April 6, 1985). He was born in the Aland Islands, near Finland, on March 28, 1884. He was a resident of Merrill, Wis., and, from 1938 to 1950, lived in Alaska. He lived in Bellingham for 35 years. Mr. Oberg was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a life member of Bellingham Elks Lodge #194. He is survived by his wife, Geri Oberg, and a son, Ernie Oberg, both of Bellingham; one grandson; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters. [He worked for more than 20 years at Oberg's Music on Holly Street.]

He had resided in Lynden for the past 20 years, and was a member of the Urania Lodge No. 414, Order of Vasa, Bellingham. Surviving relatives include 4 sisters, Mrs. Ann Hofman of Rt. 1, Lynden, Mrs. Eric Lund of Seattle, Mrs. Manda Akerlund and Mrs. Emma Anderson, both of Sweden; 1 brother, Edward of Bellingham; 3 nieces, Mrs. Robert Boice of Lynden, Mrs. L. Mr. Oberg had lived in Bellingham for 18 years and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Order of Vasa, Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Hattie Oberg, Bellingham; two brothers, Petrus Oberg, San Francisco, and Conrad Oberg, Paris, France; one sister, Miss Jennie Oberg in Sweden. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Stanton Peterson Thursday, Feb. 11, at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.
OBERLANDER, Roger Charles (Obie), 69, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, was called home to his Lord and the friends awaiting him on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, after a courageous two-year fight with cancer. He was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Napoleon, North Dakota, to Theo and Ruth Oberlander. Roger served in the United States Army and served overseas in Germany and France. He met his wife Ronita in June 1966; they were married four months later on Nov. 19, 1966. They settled in Seattle and eventually in Bellingham. They have two children, Janine and Tom. Roger worked for much of his professional career as a millwright and maintenance mechanic. He enjoyed traveling often to Montana and Nevada, as well as camping in their RV, and annual trips to Oktoberfest in Mount Angel, Ore. He was nearly always dressed in his cowboy hat and boots, having a beer with friends or oom-pah dancing with his wife Ronnie. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ronita; his daughter Janine and her husband Craig, and daughters Rachel and Natalie, of Bellingham; his son Tom and his wife Jodene, and daughters Kirsten and Amy, of Bellingham; his brothers Sonny (Audrey), Ron (Pauline), and Dennis (Karen); his sisters Betty Becker, Tootsie Gable (Ron), Bonnie Krumm (Bob), and Diane Diede (Ron); his brother-in-law Ed Heidman, of Bellingham; and the best group of friends any person could be blessed to have. Roger was never happier than when he was surrounded by family and friends; there is no adequate way to describe the look on his face when his four granddaughters would arrive for a visit. He found the same happiness in the company of friends, who couldn't have been more supportive, not only during the past two years, but from the first day their paths crossed. Special thanks to Whatcom Hospice for all their help and support. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Bayview Chapel (Lakeway & Woburn). OBERLATZ, Robert Joseph, age 62 years, who resided at 2019 Iron St., passed away at the family residence Saturday, Feb. 4th, (1956) following a heart attack. Mr. Oberlatz had resided in Bellingham his entire lifetime. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption; Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 31, and an honorary member of Painters Union Local No. 924. He leaves to survive, his wife, Mrs. Edith M. OBERLEITNER, Elaine C., of Bellingham, died Feb. 11, 1994 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was 79. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Oberleitner was born Oct. 19, 1914 to Augustus and Jessie Hawkins in Bellingham. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1932 and attended the University of Washington. She worked with the American Red Cross in San Francisco during World War II. She married Karl Oberleitner Sept. 14, 1946, in Bellingham. Mrs. Oberleitner was a volunteer for St. Luke's Hospital, now St. Joseph's Hospital for seven years. She was a member of St. Joseph's St. Zita's Auxiliary, the Bellingham Yacht Club, P.E.O., and the Edgemoor Garden Club. She played golf, bridge and enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986 and by a son, Karl Oberleitner, in 1962. Survivors include daughters Kathryn Oberleitner, Kris Plank and Karrie Hanna, all of Bellingham; son Kurt Oberleitner of Bellingham; six grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.

OBERMUELLER, George O., age 53, of 510 Girard Street, passed away in a local hospital, Monday, September 6, (1948). Mr. Obermueller had been a resident of this community for the past 42 years and was a cigar clerk for The Alpine. OBERMUELLER, Walter R. - Memorial services for retired Bellingham Herald employee Walter R. Obermueller, 77, will be at 1 p. m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Carlson of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Mr. Obermueller, 2726 Alderwood ave., died Friday (May 27, 1988) in Bellingham. He was born June 28, 1910 in Bellingham and was a lifetime resident. He was employed in the Herald's composing room until his retirement in 1972 and was a member of International Typographical Union Local 355. Survivors include his son, Ronald Obermueller of San Jose, Calif.; his nephew Donald Jack Obermueller of Lynden; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. O'BRIEN-O'NEILL, Veronica M. – A celebration of life for Vernica "Ronkie" Marie O'Brien-O'Neill of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Veronica died of complications caused by leukemia on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000 at Children's Hospital in Seattle She was 15. Born April 29, 1985, to Ronald James O'Brien and Mary Ellen (Carnahan) Urain in Everett, she was diagnosed with leukemia on July 21. Veronica graduated from Kulshan Middle School this year. Veronica attended Christ the King Church. She enjoyed swimming and riding roolercoasters and loved books, music, dancing, singing and movies, especially "Jurassic Park." She also loved her dog "Sandy Veronica's DOG" and her cat "Jack." Her grandfather Fred Carnahan died previously. Survivors include her parents Steven and Mary O'Neill of the family home; sister Dawn Skillings of Bellingham; brothers Robert Urain of Mount Vernon and Richard Urain of Avenal, Calif.; grandparents Lucille Carnahan of Concrete and Walter and Helen O'Neill of Mount Vernon; one niece; and many other relatives.

Mrs. O'Brine, of 3216 Echo Point Terrace, Lummi Island, died Nov. 29, 1991 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born Dec. 6, 1908 in Columbia, SD to Howard and Goldie Fryer. She moved to the Evergreen neighborhood of Ferndale in 1936. She later moved to Lummi Island, where she had lived for the past 30 years. Her husband, Ray O'Brine, died in 1989. Survivors include daughters Zelda Martin of Lummi Island, Dorene Beck of Ferndale, Collett Dryden of Lake Tapps and Nelda Hurd, also of Lake Tapps; sons Lawrence O'Brine of Custer and Van O'Brine of Alger; sisters Verlyn Eschbach of Ferndale and Geneva Manthey of Bellingham; brothers Don and Duane Fryer of Ferndale and Merle Fryer of Port Angeles; 26 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A descendant of early settlers of Whatcom County, her grandfather, Serril Martin, came to Semiahmoo in 1872 followed by his wife Francis Holmes Martin. Her father, William Henry Martin was born in the Boundry (sic) Bay area in 1880. Her mother Lucy Altina Milligan, was born in Quebec in 1885 and traveled with her parents to this area on the second coast to coast run of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Ida was born May 29, 1925 at Pt. Roberts, WA, the baby of a family of 14. She graduated from Ferndale High School in 1946 and married Lawrence Ray O'Brine in 1948. She worked at Evergreen Pharmacy for a period of time and managed the family blueberry farm, but her major work in life was caring for her family. She and husband Lawrence had the good fortune to retire in their late 50's and spent the remainder of their life together reaping the rewards of their hard work. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, gardening, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Ida is survived by her husband of 49 years, sons: Larry O'Brine of Custer, Craig O'Brine and wife Carolyn of Yakima; daughters: Rebecca and husband James Willson of Bellingham, Tammy and husband Hal Jorgenson of Custer; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; brothers: Phillip Martin and wife Zelda of Lummi Island, Any Martin and wife Fran of Oregon; sisters: Martha Finkbonner of Custer, Sally Thomson of Oregon, Ruby Worrell of Alaska, Opal Beebe of Yakima; numerous relatives and friends. Her legacy was in showing us how to enjoy life, treasure family and care for others. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home. He and his wife, Frona Serena Fryer O'Brine, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary June 16. They were married in South Dakota in 1922. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Nelda Hurd of Lake Tapps, Wash.; Zelda "Pat" Martin of Lummi Island; Dorene Beck of Ferndale; and Collet Dryden of Lake Tapps; two sons, Lawrence O'Brine of Custer and Van O'Brine of Ferndale; 26 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Olberg of Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. O'BYRNE, Archie Arthur, age 67 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Mamie O'Byrne, passed away at the family residence, 201 1/2 Flora Street, Friday, June 15, (1945) following a lingering illness. Mr. O'Byrne had been a resident of Bellingham for the past fifty years, was a member of the Church of the Assumption, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, the Legion of Mary and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Mr. O'Byrne was one of Bellingham's first streetcar conductors and worked many years in that capacity; he was also a member of the streetcar Men's Union. Surviving relatives include, beside the widow, one son, John of Renton, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Eldridge of San Bernadino, Calif.; Mrs. Sheedy and Mrs. Deemer, both of Seattle; three brothers, Dan and Frank O'Byrne, both of New Westminster, and Bernard O'Byrne, of Ottawa; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The remains are resting at the Bingham-Dahlquist funeral home. Mrs. O'Byrne had resided in Bellingham for the past 59 years and was a member of the Church of the Assumption, the Altar Society and Legion of Mary. O'CAIN, Ethel V., 92, owner of O'Cain's Nursing Home for 40 years, died Saturday (March 13, 1982). She was born Jan. 8, 1890, in Pennsylvania. She traveled extensively before coming to the Seattle area in 1906. Shortly thereafter, she homesteaded in North Dakota until 1914, when she moved to Bellingham with her husband, W. E. O'Cain. He died in 1946. Her nursing home was the first one between Seattle and the Canadian border when it opened in 1939. She continued to operate it herself most of the time until it closed in 1978, due to lack of funding. The building was sold to the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers as the site of a new facility. As a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, she traveled to Borneo in 1971 to dedicate two boats she donated for missionary work there. She is a survived by a son (James L. of Ferndale), two daughters (Mrs. Myrtle & husband Turville Spreadborough of Deming, Mrs. Alice & husband Vernon Swendt of city), 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law (Ruby O'Cain of Everett) and two sisters (Clara Hunter & Blanche Flauk, both of Tyrone, Penn.). Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Zuchowski officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home.
O'CAIN, Wilmer E., age 64, passed away at the family home, 1817 Knox Avenue, Saturday, November 30, (1946). Mr. O'Cain had been a resident of the community for many years and was the assistant manager of O'Cain's Nursing Home, a member of the Washington Co-Op, the Whatcom County Dairymen's Association, and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving relatives are the widow Ethel, at home; two sons, Clarence H., of Wickersham, and James L., at home; two daughters, Mrs. T. E. Spreadborough, of Ridgefield, and Miss Dorothy A., at home; three grandchildren and two brothers, Elbert J., of Bellingham, and E. H., of Whiteearth, N. D. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by Elder A. J. Gordon, Wednesday, December 4, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
O'CALLAGHAN, Patrick Joseph, age 80 passed away Thursday May 5, (1960) in a Blaine rest home. He was born in Ireland and came to this country with the A & P Grocery Chain. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Blaine. Survived by his wife Elizabeth of Route 1, Blaine, many nieces and nephews in the East and Ireland. O'CLAIR, Seann - A service for Seann William Thomas O'Clair, infant son of Bill and Stacey O'Clair will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Laurel Campus of Christ the King Community Church, 6015 Guide Meridian. Seann died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997. In addition to his parents, survivors include grandparents Sheila Warner and Al and Barb O'Clair, both of Bellingham; great-grandparents Anna Gates of Hillsboro, Texas, Shirlee Terman of Bellingham and Wes and Marcie Pike of Concrete; and great-great-grandmother Erlean Condley of Hillsboro; two uncles; and one aunt. O'CONNELL, Daniel, age 78, of 1306 9th Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, July 6, (1946). Mr. O'Connell had resided in this community for the past 50 years and had been employed by the Pacific American Fisheries. Deceased was a member of the Catholic church and is survived by a sister in Rouse Point, New York, and a niece, Mrs. Charles Marple, of Ladner, B. C. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth. Services will be conducted from the Sacred Heart Church by Father Peter R. O'CONNOR, Marie Brune, age 83, of Langley, B. C., passed away Tuesday, May 14, (1985) after a short illness. She was born in Orange City, Iowa on Aug. 18, 1902 and moved to Lynden with her family in 1909 where she lived until she was 21. She had lived in Langley since then. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln, and son, Donald. She is survived by one son, Robert and wife Doreen of Peterborough, Ontario; two grandchildren; four sisters, Johanna Zylstra and Hilda Blankers of Lynden; Enna Geleynse and Minnie Osberg, of Bellingham; one brother, Bert Brune of Lynden; and numerous nieces and nephews. O'CONNOR, Urban P., 317 E. North Street, age 75, passed away in Three Forks, Montana on Saturday, Feb. 4, (1967) while visiting a daughter. Dr. O'Connor was a forty-three year resident of this City, where he practiced dentistry until retiring two years ago. He was a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Dentistry; a member of Sigma Delta Fraternity; the Mt. Baker Dental Society; a veteran of WWI, member and Past Commander of Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion, member and Past Chef DeGare, 40 et 8; board member of the Selective Service Board, and a member of Bellingham Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 194. Survivors are his widow, Florence K. at home; two daughters, Mrs. Theodore R. Stallfus of Three Forks, Montana; Mrs. Mel Schell of Tacoma; six grandchildren and a niece, Mrs. Helen Peterson of Spokane. Services will be conducted by Rev. Ivan Cleveland Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, followed by burial in Greenacres Memorial Park.
O'DAIR, McKayla Scarlet (Glendenning), 45, of Bellingham, Washington passed away on July 6, 2006. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 1, 1961. She moved to the Phoenix area with her family in 1972 and attended Phoenix Christian High School. She married in 1978 and gave birth to her only child in 1979. She and her family relocated to Bellingham in 2000. Brenda was intelligent, witty, a talented artist and a beautiful woman with a megawatt smile. She was extravagant with the love she gave to her family and friends. Even when her circumstances were humble and she was in pain, she was always generous with gifts and notes of encouragement to others. After some difficult years, her life's end was marked by joy in the midst of suffering, a return to her Christian faith and loving, peaceful relationships with all her friends and family. She is survived by her son Chaz Glendenning, parents Herb and Thelma Glendenning, sister Rebecca Glendenning Cain, brother-in-law Terry Cain, and nephew Jonathan Cain, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel at Green Acres Mortuary at 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, followed by a luncheon at Tempe Mission Palms hotel.

ODDSON, Christiana B., 91, 1306 Astor St., died Wednesday (March 5, 1986) in Bellingham. She was born Oct. 23, 1894, in Lundar, Manitoba, Canada, but lived in Whatcom County virtually all of her life. A retired restaurant cook, she was a member of Culinary Workers Union, Local 451. Survivors include a son, Walter of Bellingham; two daughters, May Rice and Emma Diehl, both of Bellingham; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. ODDSON, Walter J., of Blaine passed away peacefully of natural causes with his family by his side on Monday, April 15, 2002. He was born August 29, 1919 in Blaine, WA, to Einar and Christine (Hallson) Oddson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marion Oddson August 22, 1997. Walter was a resident of Bellingham and Blaine. A Veteran of WWII, Walter was an active member of the Laurel VFW and was past Post Commander, and served on the board of trustees for the Blaine Senior Center. Walter was best known for his used car business. He is survived by his two sisters, May Rice and Emma Diehl both of Bellingham, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Odegaard was a retired Methodist minister, and had resided in this community for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church and leaves to survive two sisters, Mrs. Marie Larsen of Bergen, Norway, and Mrs. Ingeborg Nordby of Olso, Norway, also one nephew, Karl Larsen of Seattle. ODEGAARD, Frieda Lucille Mathes Fuller - Frieda was born 10 January, 1917 in Ravanna, Kansas, to Charles Ernest and Ida Mabel Wheeler Mathes. She married Joseph Eugene Fuller on June 5, 1933. In June 1937, they and several relatives caravanned to the Nooksack Valley, settling in the South Pass area. With the exception of two years in Seattle during World War II they resided in Whatcom County and Joseph died 9 March, 1967. Frieda married a long-time family friend, Harold Kristian Odegaard and they lived in the Sumas area almost 25 years. After Harold's death on 30 Aug., 1991, Frieda continued to live in Sumas until 18 Oct., 2005. Several health issues plagued Frieda throughout her life and these past few weeks she fought a valiant battle with a rare stomach cancer and amputation of her left leg. Frieda was always a helper to many in the community, being an active member of the Advent Christian Church in Sumas since the 1940's, the Sumas Grange and the Hopewell Grange. She helped the American Red Cross and the Heart Foundation for many years. She was the last Charter member of the Sumas Senior Citizen's group and held various positions in these organizations. She enjoyed singing with the Fly Away Gang very much. Politically, she liked to campaign for Democratic candidates and served on the County Election Board for many years. In January 2005, Frieda received the Woman of the Year Award as a special volunteer. Many things she did for people were behind the scenes: chicken noodle soup to a shut-in, fresh baked bread to a newcomer, a complete meal to someone, groceries to someone in need. She sent many greeting cards and made many phone calls to cheer people. She was the matriarch of our family and very much enjoyed the MATHES reunion held every August at the Hopewell Grange. She treasured every event that brought family groups together. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Elmer Mathes, sister Viola Mathes Lawrence, husband Joseph Eugene Fuller, husband Harold Kristian Odegaard, son Jerald Eugene Fuller, step-daughter Patricia Pinkey Odegaard, and step-great-grandson Blake Rowe. Frieda died 15 Nov., 2005, in Bellingham, Washington. Private family services will be held on Saturday, 19 Nov. 2005, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden followed by burial in Sumas Cemetery. Odegaard, 88, 247 W. 2nd St., Sumas, who died Friday at Shuksan Convalescent Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sumas Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Earl Crouse officiating. Burial will follow at Sumas Cemetery. Mr. Odegaard was born May 8, 1903, in Old Fairhaven to Halvor and Ingeborg Odegaard. When he was 2, his family moved to Norway, where they lived until moving back to Whatcom County in 1923. Mr. Odegaard worked at the Columbia Valley limestone quarry for 43 years. He also operated a dairy farm near Sumas. He retired in 1966. He was a member of the Sumas Advent Christian Church, Sumas Senior Center, and Sumas Valley and Hopewell Granges. He was a member and former vice president of the United Lime, Cement & Gypsum Workers Union of America local in Bellingham and former member of the Whatcom County Housing Authority. He enjoyed doing volunteer work and skiing. He was one of the first two ski jumpers on Mount Baker beginning in the 1920s. His longest jump was 238 feet. He married Laurel Clark in 1931 in Bellingham. She died in 1966. He married Frieda Fuller on May 27, 1967. She survives at the family home. Other survivors include sons, Harold L. Odegaard of Sumas, Gary Odegaard of Centralia and Jerry Fuller of Sumas; a daughter Shirley Nielsen of Everson; a brother, Bjarne Odegaard of Norway; sisters, Tora Hilde and Solveig Alstad of Norway; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Mrs. Odegaard was a life time resident of the Sumas area, was a past Master and Charter Member of Sumas Grange, active in County Women's Clubs and worked as precinct committee woman for Democratic party. Survivors include her husband, Harold K. Odegaard; 2 sons Harold L. of Sumas; Gary of Centralia; 1 brother, Jack Wheeler of Portland; 2 sisters, Mrs. Dorothy King of Haines, Alaska; Mrs. Geraldine Ewing of Lynnwood and 2 grandchildren. Mr. Odegard had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 25 years and was a retired logger. He leaves to survived his wife, Mrs. Ellen A. Odegard, of the home; two sons, Palmer of San Carlos, Calif., Stephen P. of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Alvera Hedden of Point Arena, Calif., Mrs. Marjorie Murray of this city; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Thea Sparks of Anacortes and Mrs. Olga Sjolie of Camrosa, Alberta; seven brothers Peter, Edward, Olaf, Hjalmer all of Meeting Creek, Alberta, Julius of Alliance, Alberta and Theodore and Conrad of Camrose, Alberta. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 9 at 2 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wilmer N. Brown of the Evangelical United Brethren Church officiating. Interment Bayview.
ODEGARD, Steffen "Stubby" formerly of Whatcom County, died Wednesday, September 17, 1997, in Des Moines. He was 81. Burial was in Washington Memorial Park in Sea-Tac. Born Jan. 9, 1916, to Selmer and Ellen Odegard in Big Lake, he graduated from Mount Baker High School in 1936. Mr. Odegard served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. He retired as a machinist from Boeing Co. in 1978. Mr. Odegard enjoyed camping and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Gladys, in 1994. Survivors include daughters Linda Hoffmaster of Graham and Sonja Tutino and Pam Tutino, both of Auburn; brother Palmer Odegard of Tracy, Calif.; sister Margie Murray of Bellingham; and seven grandchildren.
O'DELL, Allen D., age 63, passed away Sunday, June 10, (1956) in a Bellingham hospital. He had been a resident of the County for 21 years and the past 6 years resided at Neptune Beach. He is survived by his wife, Arville; one son, Allen G. ODELL, Bertha "Bee" age 81 of 310 E. Magnolia, passed away Wed., Dec. 15, (1976). Mrs. Odell had resided here her entire life except for 12 years in Monitor and Cashmere. She was a member of Sehome Chapter No. 17 OES and had been employed by Alpine Food Products Enterprises and as a hostess at the Alpine Restaurant for many years. O'DELL, Effie Y. - Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Y. O'Dell, age 83, of 3020 Meridian, Bellingham, were conducted on Saturday December 10, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home with Rev. Verne Tedder officiating. Interment followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mrs. O'Dell, who died on Wednesday, December 7, (1977), was born in Jamestown, Michigan and moved to Whatcom County in 1928. She resided in Lynden for many years before moving to Bellingham fifteen years ago. She was a member of the Cornwall Church of God and was a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion in Deming. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Reilly of Seattle and Mrs. Louise Park of Silver Springs Maryland; a son, Willfred of Dateland, Arizona; ten grand and twenty-six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Tina DeBruyn of Lynden and Mrs. Nellie McMartin of Seattle and numerous nieces and nephews.
O'DELL, Emma F. - A memorial service for Emma F. O'Dell, 76, of Deming, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Gillies Funeral Home. The ashes will be placed at Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden. She died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital. Mrs. O'Dell was born Emma Eerkes on Jan. 27, 1915, in Lynden to Ed and Alice Eerkes. She graduated in 1933 from Lynden High School. She was married to W.C. "Bill" O'Dell on May 11, 1941, in Seattle. Mrs. O'Dell graduated as a licensed beautician from May Heland Beauty School in Seattle, and operated beauty shops in Lynden and Deming. Since 1968, she and her husband had traveled throughout the West. Survivors include her husband, Bill of the family home; a sister, Ada Vandermay of Lynden; and many other relatives. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Gillies Funeral Home.

She was born May 8, 1904 in Little Falls, WA to John and Mary Anderson. She was a resident of Bellingham for 71 years, a member of Garden Street United Methodist Church, life member of Sehome Chapter #17 Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Whatcom Co. Historical Society, Past President American Legion Auxiliary and 8 et 40. For many years she was "Grandmother" to Mr. North Storm's 5th grade class at Roosevelt Elementary School. She was a poet and author and hosted a radio program on KVOS in Bellingham during the early 1940s. The program topics centered on the history of Washington State. From 1954 until it closed, she operated the Kulshan Tavern with her husband with her husband Rex Odell. She was preceded in death by husbands Glenn Burgess, Sr. in 1953 and Rex Odell in 1980; a son Glenn Burgess, Jr. and great-grandson David May Jr. Survivors: Daughters Janet Lindley and Mary Fleming of Bellingham; step-son, Don Odell of Wenatchee, WA; 8 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. O'DONNELL, Beatrice V., age 69, a resident at 1100 12th St., passed away at the family home, Friday, Feb. 19, (1960) following an extended illness. Mrs. O'Donnell had resided in Bellingham for the past 48 years, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Altar Society, Legion of Mary, and was a graduate nurse of St. Joseph's Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Frank P. at home; three sons, John P. of Chimacum, Wash., Francis of Spokane, and Raymond of Olympia; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Moore and Mrs. Belle Steckle of Wisconsin; one brother, Raymond Greene of Oregon; two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. O'DONNELL, Frank P. - Rosary for Frank P. O'Donnell, 87, 1100 12th St., will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Westford Funeral Home. He died Sunday (Oct. 27, 1974). Mr. O'Donnell had lived in Bellingham for seven years and was a retired boom man. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart. Survivors include three sons, Jack of Chimacum, Ray of Olympia and Francis of Seattle; two sisters, Frances Fallen and Gertrude Hays of Boston and three grandsons. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be in Bay View Cemetery.
O'DONOGHUE, Sister Sioban 1916-2007 Sister Sioban O'Donoghue, CSJP of Bellingham, WA, died in Tralee, Ireland, the place of her birth on April 26, 2007, while visiting her family. Her funeral services and burial will take place in Ireland. Sioban, the daughter of Helen Frances Langford and Daniel O'Donoghue, was born on July 21, 1916. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Bellingham, WA in 1936 and was given the name Sister Mary Brendan. Sioban professed her final vows in 1942 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Mt. Angel College, Oregon, in 1965. Sister Sioban is fondly remembered by hundreds of children she taught in her forty years as a teacher in Washington – Seattle, Port Angeles, Mercer Island, Wenatchee, Longview, Mt. Vernon; Van Nuys, California; Fernie, Nelson and Trail, British Columbia; and New Jersey. Since 1985, Sioban has shared her gifts of prayer, humor, and storytelling to the patients and their families at St. John Hospital, Longview and St. Joseph Hospital, Bellingham, in her ministry of hospital visitation. Sister Sioban is survived by her brothers Billy and Frank O'Donoghue, niece June O'Donoghue and nephew Tony O'Donoghue. Her sister Eileen Joseph O'Donoghue, also a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace, predeceased her. A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Sister Sioban at St. Mary-on-the Lake Chapel, Bellevue, May 2, at 11:30 a.m.

Mr. Oertel was born in Vancouver, Canada, but has spent his entire life in Blaine where since 1916 he had been in the grocery business, and had been a member of the Blaine Fire Department for 35 years as assistant chief. Surviving are his wife, Mabelle; two daughters, Cherie Stroud of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Charme Brown of Bellingham; two brothers, Richard in Blaine and Daniel in Los Angeles. Also six grandchildren. OERTEL, Sylvia S., 82, who was born at Point Roberts and lived there much of her life, died Thursday (March 2, 1984). She was born Dec. 30, 1901. She had been a secretary for many years. She was a member of Trinity Community Church at Point Roberts, Point Roberts Grange and the Senior Activity Center. She is survived by her husband, Albert, and three [two] sisters (Sarah Johnson of Blaine and Evelyn Chalder Niblock of Bellingham). Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Jerns McKinney Funeral Chapel in Blaine, with Rev. Ernest Loreen officiating.
OERTEL, Vera E. - Services for former Whatcom County resident Vera Elaine Oertel, 89, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Jerns-McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine. Burial will be at Blaine Cemetery. Mrs. Oertel, of Kirkland, died Wednesday (Sept. 26, 1990) in Kirkland, where she had lived for the past three years. She was born Vera Elaine Roberts Jan. 1, 1901, in Birch Bay. She graduated from Blaine High school and Bellingham State Normal School, now Western Washington University. She taught in the Blaine School District for 26 years. She retired in 1966. She was a member of the Peace Arch Garden Club and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening and baking. In the 1940s she was a member of the Congregational Church. Her husband, Richard G. Oertel, died in 1979, and a daughter, Catherine, died in 1946. Survivors include son Richard Wayne of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter Doris Clark of Monroe; and three grandchildren. Arrangements are by Green Funeral Home in Kirkland.
OETTEL, Mary C. of Bellingham, WA, passed away in the presence of her family on August 13, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 77 years old. Mary was the only child of Margit and Trygve Fiksdal, who emigrated to the U.S. from Norway in the 1920s. Mary was born in Chicago, IL, in 1930. When she was 12, the family moved to Tucson, AZ, where Mary graduated from Tucson High School and briefly attended the University of Arizona. Eventually the family settled in Seattle, WA, where Mary worked for 18 years at the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company. Mary is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard Oettel; their three children: Susan Maricle (Dave), Katy Beaulieu (Trace), and Bill Oettel; numerous cousins in Norway; and nieces and nephews by marriage. Mary's sparkling smile and loving attitude will be missed tremendously by her family, and by all who knew her. A private family burial will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park. A memorial service is being planned for the United Church of God congregation in Sedro-Woolley, WA, this September.

OGDEN, Anna, age 76 of Redding, California, passed away Sunday, May 10, (1964) in that city. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William Berard; 1 grandson, James and 2 great-grandchildren, all of Ferndale. Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. OGDEN, Daisy R., 2410 1/2 Lakeway Drive, age 85, passed away Wednesday, November 9, (1966). Mrs. Odgen was a twenty-six-year resident of this community, and was a member of the Congregational Church. Before moved to this community she resided in Peshastin, Wn. fifteen years. She is survived by five sons, Richard, Bruce and George, all residing in California; Charles, in Oregon; Harold, Fairbanks, Alaska; three daughters, Mrs. Florence Lowerbaugh, Roseburg, Oregon; Mrs. Laurie Rudolph, Leavenworth, Wn.; Miss Joan Ogden, city; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. Ethel Hoover, Mrs. Gladys Wiggins, Mrs. Emma Shipley and Mrs. Elsie Vinson of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Blanche Whitson of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Myrtle Mounce of Lewiston, Idaho; also numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, November 11 at 1 p.m., at the Peshastin Cemetery, Peshastin, Wn., under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.
OGDEN, Edwin A., age 60 of 2501 Vallette, passed away Sunday January 22, (1978). Mr. Ogden had been a life resident of Bellingham and had worked at Friese Hide & Tallow. He was a member of the Bellingham Elks Lodge BPOE No. 194, Eagles Lodge Aerie Lodge No. 31 and the Laborers Local No. 276. He leaves to survive 2 sons, Richard of Hollywood, Calif., and Calvin of Calif., 4 sisters, Iris Noice of Seattle, Beulah Robinson, Marion Taylor and Helen White, all of this city. OGDEN, Eva, of 2728 Ellis St., passed away in a local hospital Monday, March 19, (1962). A member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Ogden was married to James David Ogden in 1923. They lived in California until Mr. Ogden's death in 1936. For the past 12 years Mrs. Ogden has made her home with the F. M. Ledlie family. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Frank M. Ledlie of Bellingham and Mrs. Anna S. Baird of Missoula, Montana; one brother, Carl J. Foss of Bellingham; five nieces and two nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Pastor Don Taylor Thursday, March 22 at 3 p.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.
OGDEN, Florence, age 70, of 2521 Utter Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 17, (1948). Mrs. Ogden had been a resident of this community for the past 40 years and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving relatives are one son, Edwin; five daughters, Mrs. Velma Strong, Mrs. H. R. Robinson, Mrs. Wilfred Taylor, Mrs. Harry B. OGDEN, Robin Lynn, born May 20, 1963, in Yakima, WA, passed away July 3, 2007, in Bellingham, WA. She is survived by her parents, Tish and Gary Cooper; sister Michelle Hughes; Robin's children Jennifer Ogden, Gary Ogden, Morgan Reitan, and Alex Wilson; close friend Darrel Wilson and his children Darcy Albee and Jeffery Gordon. Robin was a student at Whatcom Community College and recently was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Miss Ogilvie was born Dec. 18, 1904 and was a local resident for four years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Miss Ogilvie was a registered nurse at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center and in Southern California. Survivors include a sister, Edith of Spokane; a niece, Grace Nelson of Bellingham; and numerous great-nephews and nieces. The body will be cremated with private family services at a later date. OGLE, Lena Pearl, age 68 of Rt. 2 Blaine passed away at her home Friday, Feb. 17, (1961) following a sudden illness. Mrs. Ogle was born Sept. 2, 1903 in Gifford, Iowa and came to the Haynie area with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius C. Behme. In 1912 she was married to Lester Ogle and for the past 5 years they have made their home in the Haynie area. Mrs. Ogle was a member of the Cardinal Rebekah Lodge No. 154 and the Custer First Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband Lester at home; 3 brothers, Ed and Orville Behme of Custer and Boyden Behme of Seattle; 1 sister, Mrs. Walter Benefield of Custer. Funeral services will be held Tues., Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at the McKinney Funeral Home with the Rev. John Mathone officiating and the Cardinal Rebekah Lodge No. 154 assisting. OGLE, Lester Grant, age 71, of Rt. 2, Blaine, passed away suddenly Thursday, July 26, (1962). He had been a resident of the Blaine area for the past seven years and was a member of the Custer Methodist Church. Surviving are three brothers, Cecil and Floyd, both in California, Stanley of Seattle, also one sister, Mrs. Mildred Behme and his mother, Mrs. Fannie Ogle, both of Seattle. OGMUNDSON, Frederick B. of Ferndale died Saturday, December 18, 1999, at the Highgate House in Bellingham. He was eighty. Mr. Ogmundson was born May 26, 1919, in Blaine to William and Svafa (Thorlaksdottir) Ogmundson. He attended Whitehorn's one-room school house, graduating from Blaine High School in 1938. While still a high school student, he began a seven-year stint as bus driver for Blaine School District. On October 10, 1941, he married Edith Larson of Ferndale. During WWII he worked at shipyards in Bellingham and Seattle. After the war Fred and Edith returned to the family farm on Brown Road. He ran his dairy farm while working at Columbia Cement Plant in Bellingham for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Triumph Lutheran Church, a member of Alaskat Camper Club. He also served as president of the annual Whitehorn Reunion. He enjoyed traveling and visiting friends, and was always most proud of his grandchildren and followed their activities closely. Mr. Ognundson is survived by his wife Edith; four sons, Fred Ogmundson and wife Mary Jane of Danbury, NH, John Ogmundson and wife Kathy of Metaline Falls, WA, Robert Ogmundson and wife Robin of Ferndale, David Ogmundson of Blaine, three grandchildren, William Ogmundson of Reykjavik, Iceland, Sarah and Amy Ogmundson of Ferndale. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Harold Ogmundson. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moles Funeral Home Chapel in Ferndale. Mr. Ogmundson, 71, of 8303 Cherry Tree Lane, was one of the original board members of the Stafholt-Icelandic Nursing Home in 1946. He served on that board for the next 40 years. He was a commissioner of the Birch Bay Water District, and served on the advisory board of the Stafholt-Good Samaritan Center. He was a past president of the Blaine Senior Center. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ferndale and Elks Lodge 194. He also was a past master and 50-year member of the Birch Bay Grange. Mr. Ogmundson was born Nov. 21, 1915, in Bremerton, but lived nearly all of his life in Whatcom County. Survivors include his wife, Rayma, of the family home; a son, Charles W. of Blaine; a daughter, Lynnea Jeglum of Lake Stevens; a brother, Fred of Ferndale; and two grandchildren. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Johnson and the Rev. Donald E. Walter officiating. Burial will be at Greenacres Memorial Park. O'HARA, Delbert B. of Bellingham died Wednesday, March 23, 1994. He was 90. At his request, no services will be held. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Born Aug. 15, 1903 in Spokane, he had lived in Bellingham since 1934. He married Hazel Mengis on Dec. 2, 1945, in Bellingham. A salesman all his life, he retired as a wholesale meat representative. After retiring, he and his wife bought a trolling boat in 1961 and spent the next 14 years from April to October trolling in Southeast Alaska. They spent winters camping and fishing in the area, with Fort Casey a favorite winter spot. Mr. O'Hara sold Knapp shoes after retiring from meat sales and fishing. An avid bowler, he bowled with teams for the Elks and Bellingham Senior Citizens. He was a life member of Bellingham Elks Lodge No. 194. Mr. O'Hara was preceded in death by his wife in 1984; his son, Richard in 1993; and his brother, Kenneth O'Hara, in 1992. Survivors include grandson Daniel O'Hara; and nieces Elaine McGonigal of Bellingham, Geraldine Bradley of Everett and Arlene Hoag of Seattle. Arrangements by Jones-Moles Funeral Home in Bellingham.

He was born in Bellingham on July 10, 1923 to William and Dorothy (Johnson) O'Hara. Will was a recreational fisherman for 50 years, refining his craft to an art, and a commercial fisherman for 30 years in the Alaskan and Puget Sound waters. He drove a bus for the Bellingham School District for 23 years. When he retired in 1985, he was honored for exemplary safe-driving with a 20 yr. record of no accidents or violations. After his retirement he continued to enjoy fishing, roller-skating, walking through our beautiful hills and spending a part of each day at the Bellingham Library. Survivors include his wife Luzbella, daughter Cindy and husband Pieter Grove of Henderson, NV, son Lonnie O'Hara of Bellingham, grandson Tristan Grove, nephew & niece David Emily and Sally Howell and many other family and friends. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 at Bayview Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Van Vleck officiating. Arrangements by Jones Moles Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Mrs. Ohler died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at her home. She was 84. Mrs. Ohler worked as a commercial fisher for 40 years. She was captain of her boat and she traveled to Alaska to fish. Mrs. Ohler lived in Whatcom County for 45 years before moving to Idaho last year. After retiring, she spent her time gardening. She loved flowers. She also loved to write, and she wrote a book about her life. Survivors include her sister Russie G. Toda of Meridian. Arrangements are by Jerns-McKinney Funeral Chapel of Blaine.

VA, he lived in Whatcom County for 49 years. He worked as a commercial fisher and shingle weaver, was a rock hound and enjoyed gardening and prospecting for gold. Since 1930, he owned and operated an Everson barbershop. He was a former member of Everson Lion's Club. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, five grandchildren, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ohse had been a resident of the Custer Community for the past 50 years. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Royal Neighbors Lodge in Blaine, WCTU. She is survived by her husband, Fred; two sons, Frederick, at home, and Manning of Spokane; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Dixon of Vancouver, B. C. Numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 17, in the Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale. Final resting place, Enterprise Cemetery.
OHSE, Henry L., aged 70 years, a resident of Custer, passed away at a local hospital, Friday, May 5, (1939). He leaves to survive six daughters, Mrs. Mary Johnston, Mrs. Etta Pearson, Mrs. Minnie Burke, of Bellingham; Mrs. Pauline Cramer, of Cripple Creek, Colo; Mrs. Elizabeth Chapman, of Dusenberg, Ida.; Mrs. Annie Beeman, of Ferndale; two sons, Fred, of Custer, and August, of Bellingham. Funeral services will be conducted at the Monroe Chapel in Ferndale, Monday afternoon, May 8, at 2:30 with Rev. Francis Ohse, officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
OHSE, Frederick August, age 60, of 1434 King Street, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, January 20, (1952), following a short illness. Mr. Ohse was a retired lumberman and had resided in Bellingham for 45 years. He was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church and the Musicians' Union. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Francis and Ralph Ohse, of Eugene, Ore., and Paul Rank of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Marshall and Mrs. Audrey McGinnis, both of this city; one brother, Fred of Custer; six sisters, Mrs. Edith Pearson and Mrs. Mary Johnston of Bellingham, Mrs. Annie Beeman of Ferndale, Mrs. Elizabeth Chapman and Mrs. Pauline Termayne of Colorado; 15 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 23, at 2 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck funeral home with the Rev. Daniel E. OIE, Michael Monroe, age 48 passed away Nov. 17, 2001 at his home in Van Zandt while surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 9, 1953 in Ephrata, WA to Olive & Oscar Oie. He graduated from Soap Lake High School in 1971. He worked as a Jack of All Trades. He live in Eastern WA until 1986 when his family moved to Western WA. He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, fishing & entertaining his family & friends with stories. He is preceded in death by his parents & sister Barbara. He is survived by his wife Amy Oie, son Michael Oie, daughter Mina Cooper grandchildren Colin & Shantell Swiercz, Gunnar Cooper & one on the way step grandchild Tommy Cooper his brothers Ross, Robert, Richard & sister Linda & their spouses Roy & Sally Oie & Roy & Marlene Kirkland several cousins, nieces & nephews. OIKARI, Henrick Emil, age 75 years, long-time resident of Green Bank (Whidbey Island), Wash., passed away in a local rest home Friday, Aug. 8, (1958) following an extended illness. Mr. Oikari was born June 19, 1883, in Karstula, Finland, coming to the United States in 1903. He worked in mining and logging operations until purchasing his property on Whidbey Island in 1920, and had farmed there since that time. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Anton Holmquist of Rt. 3, Lynden. Funeral services will be conducted at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden on Monday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Carl Muhr officiating. Cremation will follow.
OINESS, Anton M., age 67, passed away at the family home, 1235 Humboldt Street, Thursday, June 9, (1949). Mr. Oiness had resided in this community for the past 44 years and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Deceased had been employed at the South Side Shipyard and leaves to survive his widow, Marie, at home; two sons, Melvin and Norman, of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Clover, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Alice Kirkpatrick, of Lynden; five grandchildren; two brothers, Haakon, of Laurel, and Jacob in Norway, also two sisters in Norway. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. R. J. Jensen, Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
OINES [OINESS], Julia M., age 83 of Poulsbo, Wa. passed away in Bremerton Fri., Nov. 28, (1975). Mrs. Oiness was a former resident of the Ferndale community for over 50 years. She had resided in Poulsbo since 1971, widow of R. J. Oiness, a member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church of Ferndale. She is survived by one son, Willmer of Petersburg, Alaska; 1 sister, Bertha Pickard of Seattle; 1 brother, Lewis Herigstad of Deer Park; 3 grandchildren, Margery of Petersburg, Gary of Sitka and Tom of Seattle.
