MATCHAN, Ethel, age 63 years, 1116 Indian Street, passed away at a local hospital, Tuesday, October 26, (1948) after a brief illness. Miss Matcham (sic) had been a resident of Bellingham for the past thirty-two yers and was well-known in musical circles. Surviving relatives include three brothers, Ned. R. Matcham, Edmonds, Wash., H. W. Matcham, Seattle, and R. W. Matcham, Arroyo Grande, Calif; also numerous other relatives. The remains are at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 30, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert T. McFarlane D.D., officiating. Interment at Bay View.

MATCHAN, William Henry, age 91, of 1116 Indian Street, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, October 15, (1947). Mr. Matchan had resided in this community for the past twenty-nine yeas and was a retired mill worker for the old Bloedel Donovan mill. Deceased was a member of the Townsend Club No. 1 and leaves to survive one daughter, ethel, at home; three sons, N. R., of Edmonds, Herbert W., of Seattle, and Roy W. of Aroya Grande, Calif., also six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert T. McFarlane, Saturday, October 18, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

MATCHETT, Florence Marie (Roy) passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 16, 1994. Lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Nick, beloved daughter Linda Coyne & granddaughter Michelle. Also 2 brothers Norman & Arthur Roy & several nieces & nephews. MATCHETT, James - Graveside services will be held Monday at Bay View Cemetery for a former Bellingham man, James Matchett, a pionneer grocer of this community. Mr. Matchett died Friday (Sept. 25, 1959) in Seattle at age 82. He came to Bellingham from Canada in 1901, and became an American citizen in 1903. He was associated with Washington Grocery Co. About 20 years ago he moved to Seattle. Mr. Matchett had been active in civic, religious and cultural affairs in Seattle as well as Bellingham. Survivors include his wife, Eva, and a son, James, in Seattle; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Thomas of Leavenworth, Kans., and numerous other relatives. Services here will follow a funeral at 11 a.m. Monday in Seattle.

MATELSKI, David J., age 68, 1805 D Street, passed away off his fishing boat in Blinkensop Bay, B.C., Danada, Wednesday, June16th, (1965). Mr. Matelski had resided in this city the past four years. Survivors are his widow, Ruth, at home; one son, David G., at home; two daughters, Miss Cynthia Metelski, Ft. Lee, Virginia; Kirsten, at home, and a brother Joe Matelski of Marcel, Minnesota. Private Services will be conducted Monday June 21, at Jones Funeral Home, followed by cremation.

MATEO, Juan Salvador, age 27, of 7342 Enterprise Rd., Ferndale passed away in a local hospital Thursday August 6, 1992. Funeral arrangements are pending at Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

MATHE, Henry H., age 87, of 2405 Cornwall Ave., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Nov. 30, (1961). A 23 year resident of this community, Mr. Mathe was a member of The Immanuel Bible Church, was a retired farmer, and was the owner-operator of the first auto stage over Blewitt Pass in 1915. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Miss Stella Mathe of Bellingham, and three nieces in Alberta, Canada. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. C. C. Hovda Monday, Dec. 4 at 1:00 p.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.

MATHEOS, John, - Memorial services for John Matheos, 63, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden with Rev. John Stewart officiating. Mr. Matheos died Saturday at his Whatcom County Paradise Estate home. He was born June 2, 1923, in Saskatchewan, and had been a resident of British Columbia since 1945. Mr. Matheos was a retired mill worker and had been employed by the Timberland-Plywood Division of Weldwood of Canada. He was a member of IWA Union Local No. 1-357 in New Westminster and served in the Canadian Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife Murial, of Surrey, B.C.; and two brothers, Philip of Surrey, and Gordon of Squamish, B.C.; and numerous other relatives.

MATHER, Adella K., 96, 123 W. Racine St., died Wednesday in Bellingham. She was born June 5, 1890, in Albany, N.Y., and had lived in Washington most of her life. She had been a Whatcom County resident for the last 15 years. Mrs. Mather was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Survivors include a son, Dan Mather of Bellingham; and two grandsons, Dan C. Mather of Bellingham and John H. Mather of Willits, Calif. At Mrs. Mather's request, there will be no services. He body was donated to the University of Washington Medical Center, also at her request.

MATHER, Adrianna Alberta - Visitation for Adrianna Alberta Mather of Lynden will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Gillies Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in Monumenta Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tom Haan officiating. Mrs. Mather died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998. She was 82. Born Aug. 17, 1915, to Arie and Mattie Nieveen Zoet in Lynden, she graduated f rom Lynden High School and attended Bellingham Normal School. She married Fred Mather in 1943 in Texas. He died in 1958. Mars. Mather lived in Naperville, Ill., for 40 years and worked as an accountant at Marshall Fields and then at Florsheim Shoe Co. in Chicago for 30 years. She returned to Lynden in 1985. A member of Second Christian Reformed Church, she enjoyed quilting and volunteering at the Hope Chest in Lynden. Survivors include brothers Arnold Zoet of Bellingham and Harvey Zoet of Spokane, sister Mildred Likkel of Lynden and many nieces and nephews.

MATHER, James R., age 79 of Anacortes, died September 7, 1983. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, November 18, 1903. He received his schooling in Bellingham, moved to Anacortes in 1946, employed by Anacortes Veneer Inc. and thied there 37 years. Survivors include his wife, Edith at home; 1 daughter, Mrs. Carol Dragovich of Anacortes; 2 sisters, Lina Foster of Freeland, WA, Rena Hyde of Spokane, WA; 3 granddaughters; 1 great grandchild; 1 nephew, Riley Hickok of Lynnwood. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, Evans & Engdahl Funeral Chapel. Inurnment, Haven Hall, Grandview Cemetery, Anacortes. MATHER, James wells, age 52, formerly of 2124 Walnut, passed away at the Veterans hospital in Portland, Wednesday, November 15, (1950) following a lingering illness. Mr. Mather had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 12 years. He was sexton of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church for the past seven years, a member of the Nooksack Masonic Lodge and a veteran of Wrold War I. Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth, a son, James G., of Bellingham; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Brandt, of Seattle; Mrs. Marion Daw, of Wickersham, and Miss Betty Jean Mather, of Clula Vista, Calif.; four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Mather and a sister, Mrs. Alice Coghill both of Nooksack; many other relatives. Funeral services were conducted within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home Monday, November 20, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Canon E. B. Smith officiating, followed by ritualistic services of the Nooksack Masonic Lodge. Cremation.

MATHER, Julia P., age 89, of 45 Lake Whatcom Boulevard, passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, April 30, (1946). Mrs. Mather had been a resident of this community for the past 39 years and was a member of The Firs Bible Class. Surviving relatives are one son, Horace S. and one granddaughter, Sara Jean, both of Tacoma. The remains are at the Funeral Home of Harlow-Hollingsworth. Services will be conducted at The firs by Mr. Chester Rutledge Wednesday, May 1, at 3 p.m. Cremation.

MATHER, Katherine, age 75, of 111 Alabama, passed away in a local hospital, Sunday, Oct. 26, (1958). Mrs. Mather had been a resident of this community for the past 47 years. Surviving relatives include the husband, Nelson S. at the family home; three daughters, Mrs. Renna Hyde of Bellingham, Mrs., Walter Bliss of Seattle, and Mrs. Lina Muscutt of Duarte, Calif.; a son, Richard Mather, of Anacortes; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Thomas Murphy of Bellingham. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. James B. Hughes, Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.

MATHER, Margaret, age 72, of 1909 Cornwall passed away Friday, July 22, (1966). Mrs, Mather has been a resident of Bellingham for the past 40 years, and a member of the church of the Assumption. She leaves to survive her husband, Richard J. of the family home; 3 sisters, Mrs. Andrew King of Bay Wood, N. J., Mrs. Charles Groom of Newark, N. J.; Mrs. Alice Elhation of Providence, R. I.; 2 brothers, Clifford Hickey, Redding, Mass., and John Hickey of Newark, N.J. Christian prayer services will be held Monday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Requiem mass will be offered Tuesday, July 26 at 9:30 a.m. from the church of the Assumption. Interment, Bayview.

MATHER, Minnie O., age 92, of Nooksaack, passed away at her home yesterday, June 7, (1961). She was born in LeRoy, Minn. In 1902 she came to Washington, married Samuel Mather in September, 1904, moved to Nooksack in December of 1904, where they operated a grocery store until 1931, She was a member of Nooksack Methodist Church, a charter member of O.E.S., member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alice Coghill; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at the Nooksack Methodist Church, Rev. Ben David officiating. Concluding services and interment in the Nooksack Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

MATHERS, John Robert - A memorial service for John "Jack" Robert Mathers of Blaine will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blaine Senior Activity Center, with the Rev. Donald E. Walter officiating. Mr. Mathers died from complications caused by cancer on Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his home. He was 76. Born April 28, 1924, to Jock and Elizabath Mathers in New Westminster, B.C., he had been a local resident since 1955. Mr. Mathers attended school through the eighth grade. On May 27, 1944, he married Pearl Allan in New Westminster. She died in 1982. Mr. Mathers worked as an auto mechanic and was the owner and operator of Mathers Mower Service for 26 years. He enjoyed reading and playing crib. His passion was cooking. He also enjoyed digging for clams and cooking clam chowder. Survivors include son Wayne Mathers and daughter Penny Freeman, both of Blaine sister Jean Mathews of White Rock, B.C. six grandchildren six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Valley Funeral and Cremation Service of Lynden.

MATHERS, Pearl of 4579 Shipyard Rd., Blaine died Fri. April 30 1982 at the age of 57. Born in New Westnubuster, B.C., she was a resident of Blaine for 28 years. She leaves to survive her husband Jack; a son Wayne & wife Sherri of Blaine; a daughter Penny & husband Larry Freeman Jr. of Blaine; 3 grandchildren, Tammy, Shay & Ty; 4 sisters, Sara & Reg Gregson of Bellingham, Aleatha Stewart of New Westminster, B.C., Vivian & Ian Rowell of Coquitlam, B.C., Joyce & Sterie Lucak of White Rock, B.C.; a sister-in law Margaret Allen of New Westminster; numerous nieces & nephews; a brother Verdun Allan preceded her in death. MATHES, Elmer E., age 60, of 1600 Lakeway Drive, passed away in a local hospital Friday October 28. A resident of Whatcom County since 1937, he had moved from Sumas to Bellingham six years ago. He owned and operated the Lakeway Signal Service Station, Surviving are his wife, Lavina; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Varang of Deming; a step-daughter, Mrs. Anna Mae Roedell of Bellingham; a stepson, Gene Horn, Centralia; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Lawrence and Mrs. Freida Fuller, both of Sumas; also eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, Tuesday, November 1 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ben Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumas Cemetery.

MATHES, Harry C., age 75, of 2513 Utter Street, passed away at his home Tuesday May 1, (1951) following a brief illness. Mrs. Mathes had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 32 years. Surviving relatives include two brothers, George K., of Oakland, Calif., and Benjamin W. of Arlington, Va. MATHES, Harvey Scott, age 73, of Everson, passed away in a local hospital Friday, Jan. 11, following an extended illness. A retired farmer, he had made his home in the Everson area for the past 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Julia; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Herd of Lebanon, Mo., and Mrs. Gertie Miller of Dighton, Kan.; three brothers, Charles of Sumas, Carl of Healy, Kan., and Fred of Pinedale, Calif. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Earl Crouse officiating. MATHES, Helen, age 79 years, of 521 Garden, passed away at her home Wednesday, August 27th, following a brief illness. She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, the Aftermath Club, and the Soroptomist Club of Bellingham. Mrs. Mathes is survived by one son, Home B. Bathes of Bellingham; two grandsons, Home B. Mathes Jr., of Bellingham, and Graham E. Mathes, of Nome, Alaska, and three great-grandchildren. MATHES, Ida M., age 88 of Sumas, passed away suddenly at her home Monday, December 21. A native of Kansas she had made her home in Sumas since 1937. Surviving are her husband, Charles, 1 son, Elmer of Bellingham, 2 daughters, Mrs. Albert Lawrence and Mrs. Joe Fuller both of Sumas, 3 brothers, Frank, Orville and Arthur Wheeler and 1 sister, Mrs. Nell Boyle, all in Kansas, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. MATHES, Julia E., age 83 of 312 Lincoln St., Everson, passed away at home, Friday Oct. 29th. She had been a resident of the Everson area since 1937. MATHES, Patricia Grace, age 11, of Falls Church, Va., passed away in that city Tuesday, feb. 13, following an extended illness. She leaves to survive her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Graham Mathes; three brothers, Paul G., Eric R., and David E.; four sisters, Pamela M., Penni Kaye, Jennifer Ann and Robin Jean, all of the family home. MATHESON, Auta Mae, age 85 of 602 Orchard St., passed away at the family home Friday, June 22, (1956) following an extended illness. Mrs. Matheson had resided in Bellingham for the past 55 years. She leaves to survive one son, George T. Matheson of Snohomish; one granddaughter, Miss Shirley Matheson of this city. MATHESON, Eli Shane, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Matheson of Lynden, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9 in a Seattle Hospital. Survived by his brother, Ty at home; paternal grandparens, Mr. and Mrs. Eearl Matheson of Everson; maternal grandfather, Ralph Kingma of Lynden, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Elaine Matter of Lynden. Services were conducted Tuesday Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. in Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.

MATHESON, Freeman W., age 49, of Kodiak Island, Alaska, passed away at an Anchorage hospital, Sunday, January 8, following a short illness. Mr. Matheson was employed by naval operations service for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Juneau Elks Lodge. Surviving relatives include his mother, Mr. Auta M. Matheson and one brother, George T. Matheson, both of Bellingham. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 19, at 1 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. James M. Wilson officiating, followed by ritualistic services of the B.P.O.E. No. 194. Interment in Bay View Cemetery.

MATHESON, George T., age 60 of Snohomish, Wash., passed away in a Seattle hospital Monday, May 25, following an extended illness. Mr. Matheson was a former resident of Bellingham and was an employee of the Bonneville Power Administration. He is survived by his wife, Muriel F., at home; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley McConkey and two grandchildren, all of Bellingham. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. within the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Walker, pastor of the Garden Street Methodist Church, officiating. MATHESON, Hulda, age 91, of 1509 E. Victor, B'ham, passed away Wed., April 1, (1987) in Bellingham. Born January 18, 1896 in Wisconsin, she had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1904 living on the Smith rd. Graduating from Lakeside Nursing in Seattle, she returned to nursing after raising her family, forking at Needham's Nursing Home & Whatcom County Hospital, retiring in 1961. She is also a member of the Bellingham Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She is survived by 2 sons, Earl & wife Fran Matheson of Everson & John Peter & wife Pauline Matheson of Everson; 2 daughters, Marjorie & husband Merland Robert "Hans" Hanson of Bellingham & Anna & husband Gayle Whitsell of Lake Stevens; her two sister, Albina Roobashevsk, of Bellingham; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Matheson of Bellingham 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Rodney Benson of the Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Internment will be in Greenacres Memorial Park.

MATHESON, Jeanne Lynn - Visitation for Jeanne Lynn Matheson of Everson will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Jerns Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynden with the Rev. Woody McCallister officiating. Burial will follow in Ten Mile Cemetery. Mrs. Matheson died of cancer Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998 at the University of Washington Medical Center. She was 45. Born July 6, 1953 to Leonard and Evelyn Warner in Bellingham, she graduated from Nooksack Valley High School in 1971 and from Central Washington University. She taught at North Bellingham Elementary School for 22 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, and by a sister, Kathleen M. Hoff. Survivors include son Brett Matheson of Everson; her parents; sisters Patricia Stone of Surrey, B.C. and Kimberly Webster of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

MATHESON, Josephine, age 86, of 1460 Ellis St., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, April 7, (1955). Mrs. Matheson had resided in Whatcom County for the past 43 years and leaves to survive two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Wilma Nordstrom and Mrs. Emma Holmquist, both of Mount Vernon. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where private services will be conducted by the Rev. Andrew Odegaard Monday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. Cremation.

MATHESON, Lloyd D., age 66, of 230 E. Smith Rd., Bellingham, passed away Tues., Jan. 7th at a local hospital. Born Jan. 8, 1919 in Sumas, he was a Whatcom County resident all his life, graduated from Meridian High School in 1937, served in the Army from 1944-1946 in the Medical Corp. He married Theresa E. Gagliano on April 21, 1945 in Chicago. He moved back to Bellingham in 1946 and started Matheson's Market grocery business at corner of Smith & Guide Rd. Retired from grocery business in 1975, he operated a beef cattle ranch, 1 of the original organizers of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1962 and served as volunteer until 1981. He helped to organize Deer Creek Water Assoc. He was a member of Laurel Grange. Survived by his wife, Theresa of the family home; 1 son, Mel & wife Mary of Lafayette, Indiana; 2 daughters, Diane Bondzynsky & husband Joe of Dowagiac, Michigan, Sandra & husband Lyle Galloway of Bellingham; his mother, Hulda Matheson of Bellingham; 2 brothers, Earl & wife Fran and Pete & wife Pauline, both of Everson; 2 sisters, Anne & husband Gayle Whitsell of Lake Stevens, WA, Marjorie & husband Robert (Hans) Hanson of Bellingham; 7 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. At his request there will be no funeral services. Cremation at Greenacres Memorial Park.

MATHESON, Peter Jay, 30, 112 Blankers St., Everson, died Thursday (April 4, 1985) in a Seattle Hospital. He was born in Alaska on Nov. 22, 1954, and lived in Everson all his life. He graduated from Nooksack Valley High School and attended Western Washington University. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellingham, and owned and operated Meridian Pre Fab Building Components. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne, and one son, Brent, of Everson; his parents, Peter and Pauline of Everson; two brothers, Jon Matheson of Bellingham and Marty Matheson of Everson; a sister Pam Judd of Ellensburg; grandmothers Sally Joneli of Everson and Hulda Matheson of Bellingham; a niece and a nephew. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cornwall Avenue. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Jerns-LeVeck Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ten Mile Cemetery.

MATHEWS, Blanche, age 80, of Blanchard, Skagit County died Fri., Dec. 22, 1978 at United General Hospital, Sedro Woolley. She was born may 14, 1898 in Burlington. Her marriage to Charles Mathews took place March 1, 1920 in Bow. Mr. Mathews died in 1965. Mrs. Mathews was a member of the Blanchard United Methodist Church. Surviving are 2 sisters; Tillie Coble, Blanchard and Ruth Greenman, Mt. Vernon; 2 brothers; George Henry, Blanchard and William Henry, Bow, Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. MATHEWS, Gary H. - A memorial potluck for Gary Hugh Mathews of Bellingham will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 9 at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale. Mr. Mathews died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Shuksan Health Care Center. He was 47. Born May 17, 1952, to Wayne and Gloria (Hovig) Mathews in Everett, he graduated from Sehome High School in 1970. In 1973, he married Linda Hirschkorn in Bellingham. Mr. Mathews worked for Uniflite, formerly United Boat Builders, of Bellingham for 18 years and later worked as a carpenter. Mr. Mathews enjoyed fishing and camping. Survivors include his wife, daughter Chelsea and son Parker, all of the family home mother of Bellingham brothers Todd Mathews of Bellingham, Steve Mathews of Ferndale and Scott Mathews of Everson sisters Lori LaCrosse of Nooksack and Karen Jabbora of Royal City and many nieces and nephews. MATHEWSON, Gordon Murdick, age 61 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Aldine Mathewson, 1810 C Street, passed away suddenly Thursday, October 31, (1946). Mr. Mathewson was a pioneer of Whatcom County, having come here before Washington was a state, fifty-nine years ago. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 31, Surviving relatives include, beside the widow, one brother, Mr. John Mathewson, also of Bellingham, and three nieces in California. Funeral will be conducted at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, Monday, November 4, at 2:30 with Rev. James M. Milligan, officiating, followed by cremation.

MATHEWSON, Howard T., 45, Everett, a former Bellingham resident, died Saturday (Dec. 12, 1981) in Providence Hospital, Everett. He was born March 2, 1936, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a 1953 graduate of Bellingham High School. He moved to Everett in 1957 and had been employed at The Boeing Co. in Everett and Seattle for 24 years. He was a former member of the Bellingham Elks Lodge. He is survived by his mother and two brothers. Memorial services were held today at Green's Sunset Hills Memorial Chapel, Bellevue.

MATHEWSON, John, age 74, who resided at 310 East Champion, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Nov. 7, following a brief illness. Mr. Mathewson had resided in Bellingham the past 65 years and leaves to survive his sister-in-law, Aldine Mathewson. Rev. MATHIESEN, Charlotte B., 87, of Bellingham died Sunday, April 2, 1995 at St. Francis Extended Health Care. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard C. She was preceded in death by husband William Mathiesen in 1985, son Ronald in 1982, and sister Hazel Bowman in 1980. MATHIESEN, William H. - Funeral services for William H. "Bill" Mathiesen, 94, 2121 Eldridge Ave., will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leonard C. Ericksen officiating. The body will be cremated. He died Sunday (April 21, 1985) in Alderwood Park Convalescent Center after a long illness. Mr. Mathiesen was born Jan. 22, 1891, in Watertown, SD. He farmed in South Dakota, coming to Bellingham 56 years ago. He was employed by Jones Funeral Home as a funeral director and embalmer for 40 years. He was a member of Whatcom Lodge 151, F&AM; Sehome Chapter 17, Order of the Eastern Star; Scottish Rite Bodies; Northwest Shrine Club; and Elks Lodge 194. MATHISON, Jean F., age 88, passed away May 5, 2008 in Bellingham. She was born Nov. 7, 1919 in Stevens Point, WI. The love of Jean's life was her husband, Lee Mathison, who preceded her in death in 1984. Jean was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and Eastern Star. She worked for Whatcom Medical Bureau for over 25 years as a comptroller. After retiring, Jean and Lee traveled extensively. She enjoyed meeting weekly with the "lunch bunch," a group of Whatcom Medical retirees. Jean is survived by her daughter Darlene Cea (husband Gordy) and their daughters Dana, Darla and Jeanalee, niece Cheryl Mathison (husband Jim), sister Elizabeth Humphrey and numerous relatives and friends. A Celebration of Jean's Life will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sat. May 10, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.

He was a retired meatcutter, having been a butcher at Valley Market in Bellingham 25 years. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church; San Juan Lodge 175, F&AM, Friday Harbor; and Stroke Activity Center. He is survived by his wife Jean; two brothers; and a niece. He died Friday in Palm Springs, Calif., at the age of 70. He was the former owner of Mathison's Mobile Home Ranch on the Guide Meridian, and he had been a Whatcom County resident for 17 years. MATLEWSKY, Joseph John - A funeral Mass with full military honors for Joseph John Matlewsky of Blaine will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Lee officiating. Mr. Matlewsky of 41 Drayton Court died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1994, in Bellingham. He was 57. Born Dec. 24, 1936, to Joseph John and Helen Roshinsky Matlewsky in Saskatchewan, Canada, he moved to Blaine in 1975. He worked as an electrician for Whatcom County. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, the Blaine Legion Post No. 86 and Fleet Reserve Association No. 245. MATSON, August, age 85, of 1415 1/2 Grant St., passed away in a local hospital Monday, Feb. 9, (1961). Mr. Matson came to the U.S. in 1892 from Sweden and became a citizen in 1897. He has been a resident of this community for the past 82 years, was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and is a retired interior decorator and painter. Surviving relatives include a son, Lester A. Matson of Bellingham, a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Cook of Beaverton, Ore.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister in Sweden. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by pastor Albert C. Tinsberg, Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m. Cremation.

MATSON, Augusta, age 81, Of Lynden, passed away in a local rest home Thursday November 14 following an extended illness. She was born and grew up in Sweden, coming to this country and Whatcom County in 1905. It was here in 1905 that she was married to Ole Matson, and they have made their home here since. She leaves to survive her husband, Ole, 3 daughters, Mrs. Nellie Jensen of Seattle, Mrs. Alma Sucee of Bellingham and Mrs.. Olga Wold of Bremerton, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home Saturday November 16 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park.

MATSON, Bess, 89, of Nampa, Idaho, died Wednesday at a Nampa Care Center of natural causes. She had lived there the past 12 years. Memorial Services will be held at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Sunridge Retirement Center, Nampa, with Rev. Walter Lee of the Nampa Friends Church officiating. Interment will be in Meridian Cemetery under the arrangements of the Chapel of the Chimes, Meridian. Bess was born September 10, 1904 at Newman Grove, Nebraska, to Robert J. and Gusta (Wagelie) Bruland. She grew up and received her education in the Pleasant Valley and Whitehorn areas of Western Washington. Bess also graduated from Business College in Bellingham, WA. She married Carl G. Matson on August 20, 1927 in Bellingham. All three of her children were born there. The family moved to Boise in the early 50's where Carl worked for The Boise Statesman newspaper. Bess loved her work as a home maker and her interests in art, music and flowers. Her beautiful yard was once featured in The Boise Statesman. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Lynn Hermanson of Acworth, GA; a son, Gordon and his wife Judy Matson of Beulah N. Dakota; a sister Myrtle Sundahl of Beaverton. OR. Bess has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her eldest daughter Barbara J. Nesmith, formerly of Meridian.

MATSON, Carl G., 77, a former longtime Bellingham resident, died Monday (July 6, 1981) in Nampa, Idaho, hospital. He was born July 19, 1903, in Bellingham, and married Bess Bruland on Aug. 20, 1927. At age 10 he began working for the The Bellingham Herald as a newsscarrier and eventually became stereotype foreman. In 1953, he moved to Boise, Idaho, where he was employed as a stereotyper by The Idaho Statesman until his retirement in 1968. His brother Arthur, who died in 1970, also was a longtime Bellingham Herald employee. Matson is survived by his wife, Bess, two daughters, a son, a brother, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, Meridian, Idaho. Cremation will follow.

MATSON, Eva Viola, age 75 years, who resided at 1120 15th St., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, February 25, (1956) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Matson had resided in Bellingham the past 15 years, and leaves to survive her husband; I. U. Matson, Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Morrison and Mrs. Lila Hoskins; one son, Preston Holton, all of Anacortes; also three brothers, Jerry Smith, Bellingham; Charles and Floyd Smith residing in Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. O. G. Lee of Anacortes; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Rev. O. Mason, pastor or the assumption of God church of Snohomish, Wash., who is the nephew of Mr. Matson will officiate at funeral services on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Bingham, Dahlquist and Jerns Funeral Home. MATSON, Gilbert T., 88, of Anacortes, died Saturday January 16, 1993 in Anacortes. He was born January 6, 1905 in Bellingham, WA where he was raised and received his schooling. After working there for a period of time he moved to the Seattle area where he worked in the shipyards and in 1945 established Matson Machine Works which he owned and operated until 1975. After retirement in 1975 he moved to Anacortes where he has resided until the present. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances in 1988. Mr. Mattson was a member of the Danish Brotherhood. Private interment was in Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham. There will be no funeral services. Survivors include a son, Richard Matson of Wheeler, OR and three grandchildren, Leah Matson of Topariga, CA, Zoren Matson of Portland, OR and Breta Matson of Vashon Island, WA. MATSON, Isaiah U., age 87 who resided at 1__0 15th St., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16th, (1958) following a lingering illness. MATSON, Lulu E. - Private family services for Lulu E. Matson, 102, of 2726 Alderwood Ave., will be held with the Reverend Richard Christensen officiating. Mrs. Matson died in Bellingham on June 28, 1996. She was born on May 21, 1894, in Oconto, Wisconsin, to Eric and Lydia Frombly. She lived most of her life in Bellingham. MATSON, Maude, age 73, who resided at 1339 Humboldt St., passed away at the family residence, Tuesday, March 6, following a brief illness. Arnold Matson of Snohomish, Wash., Harvey Matson of Anacortes, Herbert Nipges of Pasadena Calif; three nieces, Mrs. Irene Norstrom of Everson, Mrs. Fern Day of Bellingham, Mrs. Martha Strausbaugh of Washington; also five grandchildren. MATSON, Ole, age 87, of 3315 Marine Dr., passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Sept. 24, (1958). Mr. Matson had resided in this community for the past 50 years, was a retired locomotive engineer for the Olympic Portland Cement Co.; had attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Survivors are one son, Nils Matson of Chicago; two brothers, Nils Mathiasson, in Sweden and August Matson of Bellingham; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a nephew, Lester Matson of Bellingham. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. W. Robert Webb, Friday, Sept. 26, at 4:30 p.m. Cremation.

MATSON, Ragna, age 72 years, 3317 Marine Drive, passed away at a local hospital, Thursday, July 5, (1945). Mrs. Matson had resided here the past thirty-four years and leaves the following survivors, the husband, Ole at home; one son, Nils I. at Seattle; one daughter, Mrs. Norma Crowe and a sister, Mrs. Clara Paulsen of this city; also four grandchildren. MATSON, Spurgeon C., age 81, of 1339 Humboldt St., passed away in an Everett hospital Thursday, May 26, (1960). Mr. Matson had resided in Bellingham for the past 55 years; was a member of the William Mathews Post No. 1585, V.F.W. and the United-Spanish-American War Veterans. Survivors are two sons, Rev. Orno M. Matson, of Snohomish and Harvey S. Matson, of Anacortes; five grandsons; two great grand daughters; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Reams, of Franklin, Nebraska; numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Willard Gregg Tuesday, May 31 at 3:00 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted by the officers of the William Mathews Post No. 1585 at Woodlawn Cemetery.

MATSON, Walter T., age 80, passed away in Anacortes, Wa., Sat. Oct. 30, (1976). He was a member of the Danish Lodge No. 155. Survivors brother, Carl Matson, Mesa, Arizona; brother, Gilbert Matson of Anacortes, numerous nieces and nephews. MATTEONI, Nellie A., age 74, a resident of Auburn, Wash., passed away in that city Friday, Feb. 26. Mrs. Matteoni was born in 1884 in Ireland and came to Deming, Wash. in 1914, she lived there until moving to Auburn in 1934. She was a member of The Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn. Survivors include her husband Paul at home, 2 daughters, Madline Gyger, of Seattle and Mrs. Helen Rauch of Renton, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be said Sunday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 at the Price Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Requiem mass will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 29, 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church. MATTER, Grietje, age 88, formerly of Route 2, Lynden, passed away in a local rest home Thursday, July 6, (1961). Mrs. Matter had been a resident of Lynden for the past 41 years and was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Survivors are four sons, Bert and Martin, both of Lynden, John of Everett, Luke of Seattle; three daughters, Mrs. Frank VandenBerg, Mrs. Oscar Dykstra, both of Lynden, Mrs. Arie VanVinkle of Everett, also three grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, Saturday, July 8, at 2 p.m., Rev. Bernard Byma officiating. Burial to follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

MATTER, Lucas, 91, of 130 Garfield, Sumas, died at his home on Jan. 26, 1993. Mr. Matter was born on March 9, 1901 in Hillegom, the Netherlands, the son of Hendrick and Grietje Planting Matter. The family migrated to Canada when he was 8 and homesteaded near Burdett, Alberta. In November 1920 he married Grace Hobbelink. they farmed his father's homestead until 1924, when they moved to Lynden. He operate an excavating business in the Bellingham and Lynden areas until about 1930, when he began farming in the Sumas and Lynden areas until 1944. His wife died in August 1940. After 1944 he worked in various sales jobs until 1956, when he bought a Yellow Cab in Seattle and worked as a taxi driver for about 20 years. He retired at the age of 75 and moved to Sumas, where he spent his retirement years. Mr. Matter is survived by two sons, Henry Matter and wife Katherine of Sumas and Paul Matter and his wife Harriet of Bellingham;; two daughters, Frieda VanderMey and husband Herman of Lynden and Marguerite Dawson of Yakima; two sisters, Catherine Dykstra and husband Oscar of Lynden and Mary Van Winkle of Lynden; brother Martin Matter and wife Mary of Lynden; and 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, John and August Matter; two sisters, Ann Paisley and Elsie VanderBerg; and grandson Ronald Matter. A memorial funeral service was held on Saturday at Sumas Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Thomas Wetselaar officiating. Burial preceded in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

MATTER, Mary Rockey, aged 77 years, 301 Grand Avenue, passed away at a local hospital, Tuesday, April 10, (1945) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Matter had been a resident of Bellingham for about forty years and was a member of the Evangelical Church. Surviving relatives include two brothers, Messrs. J. D. Rockey, of Lynden, and Roy J. Rockey, of Seattle; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Rockey Brown, of Bellingham; also numerous nieces and nephews. MATTER, Ronald H., 36, died suddenly April 11th (1981) near Tacoma. The former Sumas resident was born in Bellingham and graduated from Lynden Christian High School in 1963. He was a t ruck driver for Peninsula Freight Lines Inc. of Seattle. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Seattle, burial followed in Oak Harbor, Washington. He is survived by his wife Johanna, three children, Lisa 13, Sandra 10 and Jeff 8 of Seattle. MATTHEWS, Clara Belle, 86, of Route 1, Ferndale, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, January 31, (1954) after an extended illness. Mrs. Matthews was the first nurse at the County Hospital and has been a resident of Ferndale for the past 28 years. She was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbors. She leaves to survive two daughters, Mrs. J. W. McKee, Ferndale, and Mrs. F. S. Mercier, Clinton, Wash.; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the Monroe Funeral Chapel at Ferndale, Wednesday, February 3, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. W. E. Hallman officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

MATTHEWS, Frank C., born April 4, 1912, passed through the Gates of Paradise at about 6:00 p.m., January 16, 1997. Surrounded by his children, he sat up and smiles, mouthed the words "I love you," and breathed his last. A memorial service will be held at Garden Street United Methodist Church, 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 19. He is survived by his wife Helen, his sister Evelyn, his four children, Carol, Judy, Sam, and Geoff, and ten grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For over fifty years he was a minister in the United Methodist Church in Pennsylvania, Arizona, California, and Washington, and is deeply loved as a preacher, counselor, and friend by thousands of his parishioners. MATTHEWS, Lyman C., age 73 years, of Route 1, Custer, passed away suddenly at his home, Wednesday, October 26, (1955). MATTHEWS, William F., 68, born and raised in Bellingham, died Tuesday (July 14, (1987) in the Veterans Administration hospital in Roseburg, Ore. Mr. Matthews had been a resident of Coos Bay, Ore., since 1951. He was born in Bellingham on June 12, 1919, and graduated from Bellingham High School in the mid 1930s. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a retired independent logging contractor. Mr. Matthews also was a member of the Coos Bay Elks. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Matthews of Coos Bay; three daughters, Linda Lightfelt of Mercer Island, Susan Cline of Beaverton, Ore., and Gail Matthews of Bellingham; two brothers, Ned Matthews of Oakridge, Ore., and Robert Matthews of Coos Bay; a sister, Shirley Whitted of Oakridge, Ore.; and five grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay, with the Rev. Malcolm Turkington officiating. Arrangements are by the Coos Bay Chapel.

MATTISON, Julius E., age 65 years, passed away at the family residence, 611 Maryland Street, Sunday, November 16, (1947) after a brief illness. Mr. Mattison had been a resident of Bellingham only one year, having formerly lived in Minneapolis, Minn. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Adena Mattison; one daughter, Mrs. Vern Behm, Minneapolis, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Mortenson, Anoka, Minn. MATTSON, Albin, age 78, of 1424 Lincoln Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, July 17, (1948). Mr. Mattson had resided in this community for the past 25 years and was a retired farmer. MATTSON, Carl Engelbert, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 26, 2002. Son of Carl E. & Thelma (Driggs) Mattson. He was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Nov. 27, 1928. His memory is held dearly by his loving and patient wife, Lorraine "Honey" Mattson. Remembering him with love and humor are his children Carl E. Mattson III, Christina E. & Willie Adams, Cheryl E. & Robert Walker, Constance E. & Stu McKay, Corrine E. & Ron Unick, Cem E. and Terri Mattson. His stepsons Greg and George Bucholtz and his puppies Cassie and Teddy. Twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and his sisters Neva, Irene, and Maida. Dad was a true Alaskan and also a hunter, trapper, goldminer, mechanic, welder, lifeguard, diver, logger, tree topper, steeplejack, powder monkey, and blaster. In the Navy he was a plank owner on the Osbourne and later one of the first Navy Air Controlmen. He was a master cribbage player and a lucky one as well!! We're sure he is already "hauling timber" or "pegging out" on some poor soul. Dad loved to read and could make anyone laugh with his humorous insights and recitations of Robert Service. MATTSON, Helen A., age 85, of 1235 W. Racine St., passed away in a local rest home, Saturday, Nov. 14, (1959). Mrs. Mattson had been a 60 year resident of this community. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. She leaves to survive one daughter, Miss Nadine Mattson at home, also numerous nieces and nephews. MATTSON, Ruth V. - Graveside services for Ruth V. Mattson, 84, of Bellingham, were held Monday, Nov. 7, at Greenacres Memorial Park, followed by memorial services at 2 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, Bellingham, with Pastor Hank Hoefs officiating. Mrs. Mattson passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1988. She had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom County, graduated from Nooksack High school and Bellingham State Normal School (now WWU). She married Conrad Mattson Dec. 26, 1928. Mrs. Mattson had a long elementary school teaching career in the Whatcom County Schools. She was an active member of the grace Baptist Church, Bellingham, as well as the Christian Teachers Fellowship, Meridian Retired Teachers association, and the Whatcom County Retired teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband Conrad in 1967. She is survived by two sons, Marlin Mattson, M.D., of New York City, N.Y., and Terry and wife Connie Mattson of San Jose, Costa Rica; one daughter, Kay and husband Terry Wenk of Seattle; six grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hilma Thompson of Ferndale and Thelma Hasselquist of Minneapolis, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.

MATTSON, Theodore R., age 85, of Bellingham, passed away Sat., Oct. 25th in Bellingham. He was a resident of Bellingham for the past 5 years and was born Aug. 7, 1901 in Negaunee, Michigan. Mr. Mattson had been employed at the Peninsula Plywood in Port Angeles, WA, from 1942-1967. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellingham, a member of the Port Angeles Lodge No. 69 F&AM and a charter member of the order of Runerberg, Rodchester (sic), WA. Survivors include his wife, Esther L. Mattson; daughters, Charlene E. Blore, Theodora J. Stratford; son-in-law, Robert L. Blore; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; numerous nieces. He had been a resident of the B'ham area since 1955, formerly employed as a Miller for the Columbia Cement Co. & a former member of the Elks Loge No. 385 of B'ham. MATTY, Andrew M., age 61, of 3113 Birchwood, passed away Thursday, January 24, (1978). Mr. Matty was a 27 year resident of this community. He retired in 1972 as equipment operator for Puget Sound Powe & Light Co. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and of Bellingham Aerie No. 31 FOE. An army veteran of WWII. Survivors are his wife, Marie; 3 sisters, Mrs. Helen Plank of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Anna Bodner of New Westminster, B.C.; Mrs. Elizabeth Mayor of Lestock, Sask.; 2 brothers, John Matty of city and Michael Matty of Huntington, B.C.; several nieces and nephews. MATTY, Ida Hudson, age 72, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gertude Ottestad, 2114 C Street, Friday, Nov. 18, (1955) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Matty had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 13 years and was a member of the Church of God. Besides her daughter she is survived by two brothers, Louie Christen of Idaho, Rev. Frank Christen of Aberdeen, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Zeimer of Wisconsin, a grandson, Lloyd Pearson of Custer, a granddaughter, Mrs. Shirley Loomis of Bellingham; also two grandchildren. The Rev. Ronald Glessner, pastor of the Church of God, will officiate at funeral services Monday, Nov. 21 at 2 o'clock from the chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home Interment Greenacres Memorial Park.

MATTY, John F., age 69 of 1200 Lincoln, B'ham, passed away Thurs., Sept. 12th, (1985) at his home. He was a resident of B'ham for 40 years and worked for Diehl Ford as a mechanic for 20 yrs. He retired in 1973. He was a member of the B'ham BPOE No. 194, the Mechanics Union in B'ham and a great sportsman, an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife Letha of B'ham; 1 daughter Lynda Parcher and husband Joseph of B'ham; 3 sons, Gary Matty of Maryland, Kenneth of Everett and Keith of Battleground; 2 sisters, Anna Bodner of New Westminster, B.C.; Elizabeth Mayor of Leftock, Saskatchewan; 1 brother, Michael Matt of Huntington, B.C.; 10 grandchildren. MATTY, Joseph, age 77 years, of 901 Thirty-second Street, passed away at the family home Wednesday, January 14, (1953) following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of Bellingham for the past four years. Mr. Matty is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Matty; four sons, John and Andrew, both of Bellingham, Steve and Michael, both of Abbotsford, B.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Blank, of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Anna Bodner, of New Westminster, B.C., and Mrs. Elizabeth Mayor, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; also 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home with the Rev. K. E. Doka, of Abbotsford, B.C., officiating. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

MATTY, Letha Sarah died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on November 18, 2001 in Bellingham, WA. She was 82. Born March 9, 1919 in Marshall, Michigan, she was the youngest daughter of Frank and Cora Henasy. Mrs. Matty married her husband John in 1939 in Michigan. The couple had four children before moving to Bellingham in 1944 where Mrs. Matty joined Ireland & Bellingar Insurance. She retired as the senior commercial underwriter after 38 years with the firm. Mrs. Matty enjoyed dancing, golfing, card playing and traveling with her husband. She was also very fond of dogs, especially her Beagles, Hoot and Gus. Most of all, Mrs. Matty loved her family. She took great pride and joy in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was happiest when surrounded by the fun and laughter of loved ones. Mrs. Matty was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1985. She is survived by sisters, Glenda Lee of Michigan, Valda Goodrich of North Carolina children, Lynda and husband Joe Parcher of Bellingham, Gary Matty of Baring, Keith and wife Peggy Matty of Oakland, CA, Ken and Eileen Matty of Seattle grandchildren Jeff and wife Laura Parcher of Annandale, VA, Mark and wife Kim Parcher of Issaquah, Mike and wife Traci Parcher of Bellingham, Chris Matty of Kirkland, Greg Matty of Kirkland, Marie and husband Jason Dunham of Seattle, Jamie and husband Rich Pearson of Menlo Park, CA, Kacy Matty of Oakland, CA, Kathy and husband Don Jewell of Redmond, Tracy Matty and Liz of Blaine great grandchildren, Nikki and Brian Jewell, Lucas and Haley Parcher, Tyler Parcher, Avery Pearson and Matty Dunham and several nieces and nephews. "Grandma Lee" will be missed by her family and remembered forever. A family service will be held on November 21, 2001 at Greenacres Memorial Park.

MATTY, William A., Jr., (Billy) age 46 of Ferndale, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Billy was born in Fort Bragg, N.C. on January 6th, 1958, the son of William and Lois (Carlson) Matty. He was raised and spent all of his life in the Bellingham area. He was married to the love of his life, Becky Faber in Bellingham on July 19, 1997. Billy had the most amazing compassion for helping and living his life for others. His family and friends were truly blessed to have had him in their lives. Billy took up motorcycle racing as a kid, and went on to win the Westwood Canadian Super Bike Road Race Championship. After his racing career, he continued a career in heavy construction. His first experience running equipment was with his father at the age of 6. Later, his love of operating equipment got him into farming, which led to his business, Quarter Farms. He is survived at home by his wife, Becky; his nephews Jason Faber, and Stephen Faber of Moses Lake; his mother Lois Matty of Bellingham; sisters Kim and husband Mark Lau of Bellingham and their children, Brandon, Cody, Alesia, Matty and Calie, Lori and Jeff Hughes of Bellevue, and Denise and Brad Brown of Bellingham; his father-in-law, Donald Faber of Mt. Vernon; and mother-in-law Sandra Faber of Mt. Vernon; his special friend Seth Schuler; numerous other relatives; and his dog Bela. He was preceded in death by his father, William Matty, in July 2004. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 119 Texas St., Bellingham. MATTY, William A. "Bill" Sr., passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004 in Bellingham. He was 73, born October 16, 1930 in Cleveland, OH to William and Mary (Gyetko) Matty. Bill joined the Army at a young age, as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He was also involved with the 77th Special Forces, before joining the 18th Airborne Sport Parachute Club. Bill retired from Henifin Construction as a superintendent. Bill's passion was traveling. He traveled all over the world, but loved driving the country in his Suburban, only stopping when he needed fuel. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois; son, Billy and wife Becky and their children Steven and Jason; daughter, Kimberly Lau and husband Mark and their children Brandon, Cody, Alesia, Matty, Calie; daughter, Lori Hughes and husband Jeff; daughter, Denise Brown and husband Brad; sister, Jean Bergholz; brother, George Matty; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. MATZ, Barbara, age 67 years old, has been a resident of this county for the past 64 years, passed away at her home in Ferndale Route 3, Friday, January 24, (1947) after a lingering illness. Surviving are her daughter, Olive of Bellingham; a son, Everett Matz, of Ferndale; one grandson George Matz, of Ferndale; one brother, William DeWitt, of White Rock, B.C. Funeral services wee held at Monroe Chapel in Ferndale, on Monday afternoon, January 27, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carl Calhoun officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

MATZ, Cora Lorena, 96, of Bellingham died Friday (Aug. 8, 1986) in Bellingham. She was born Oct. 7, 1889, in Marinette, Wis. Mrs. Matz was preceded in death by a son, Paul O. Matz. Survivors include two sons, Everett W. Matz of Oshkosh, Wis., and Wilbur Matz of Carmichael, Calif.; two daughters, Mary E. Watts of Bellingham and Hulda L. Farrugia of the Republic of Malta; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. MATZ, Eva Marie, age 78, of 2105 Ellis St., passed away Thursday, June 26, at her home. She had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 3 years and lived in Ferndale about 50 years previously. Survivors include 1 daughter, Mrs. Regina Swanson of Seattle; 2 sons Reginald of Bellingham and Paul of Ferndale; 2 sisters, Mrs. Anna Furness of Ferndale; Mrs. Mary Powell of Waseca, Minn.; 4 brothers, John Diedrich and George Diedrich, both of Waseca, Minn.; Mathew Diedrich and Edward Diedrich, both of Morris, Minn.; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited in the Monroe Funeral Home Sunday at 7 p.m. Holy Mass will be offered by Father Joseph Dakin in St. Josephs Catholic Church Monday, June 30, at 9 a.m. Final resting place Enterprise Cemetery.

MATZ, Everett L., age 73, of Seattle, passed away Sun., July 2, 1978. Mr. Matz had been a resident of Ferndale and Marietta community until 1956 when he moved to Seattle. MATZ, Paul Edward, age 83, 5832 Church Road, Ferndale, passed away in St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Monday, April 18, 1994. He was born in Ferndale October 6, 1910 to J. Albert and Eva Diederich Matz; was a lifetime Ferndale resident living on the Matz road where his family pioneered. He worked for the City of Ferndale as city clerk; was a volunteer fireman and served as secretary for many years; was a charter member of Ferndale Lions Club; and a member of Jet Oldsters Ass'n. of the Ferndale Senior Center. Mr. Matz was an honorary trustee of the Whatcom County Old Settlers Ass'n, and served as a trustee for the Old Settlers Association. Mr. Matz, a pharmacist, owned and operated the Evergreen Pharmacy until his retirement. He loved the out-of-doors and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Matz was preceded in death by his first wife Marion in 1981; he married Doris Andersen in 1984 in Bellingham and she survives him at the family home. Also surviving him are daughters Carol and Lindy Lingbloom, Paula and Jim LaRose and a son John and Linda Matz, all of Ferndale; 11 grandchildren, Terry Lingbloom, Edmonds; Torry Lingbloom, Bellingham; Todd Lingbloom, Lynden; Tina Blizard, Richland; Jim LaRose, Michael LaRose, Lori LaRose Kyllingmark, Kari LaRose Kyllingmark; Chris Matz, Brian Matz, all of Ferndale; Jodi Pollett of Kirkland; 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 21, 11 a.m. at Triumph Lutheran Church, Mtn. View and Church Road, Ferndale, with Reverend Richard Talley and Reverend Joel Lohafer officiating. He was a B'ham resident up until 15 yrs. ago. He was presently a Professor at the Las Vegas College. MATZICK, Lauretta Jane (Claver), age 56, of Lke Havasu City, AZ, passed away Saturday, November 9, 1991 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Debra and Ted Martin in Bellingham, WA after a year long bout with cancer and stroke. Lauretta was born June 6, 1935 in Helena, MT. to Edwin and Dorothy Claver. She graduated from Helena High in 1953 and married Dean Alvin Matzick of Ennis, Mt. in June of 1953. She was an Ennis resident most of her life and relocated to Lake Havasu City after their divorce in 1988. She is preceded in death by her father, Edwin Claver in 1953. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Claver BAllou of Helena, Mt.; sister Clara Strand of Big Timber, MT.; daughter Debra Martin of Bellingham, WA; two sons Rick Edwin Matzick of Ennis, MT and Gregory Arthur Matzick of Lewistown, MT; aunt Arlene N. Loftin, Salt Lake, UT; uncle Raymond M. Hartford, Helena, MT. seven grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. Private family burial will be made prior to memorial services to be held at the Ennis Presbyterian Church on Friday November 22, 1991 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jennie Johnson officiating. MATZKE, Emilie W. , age 87 years, of 2720 McLeod Road, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, (1953) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Matzke had resided in Bellingham for the past 49 years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gus Waschke, of Bellingham; one son, Conrad Matske, of Port Angeles; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The Rev. Alfred Eichman, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church of Mount Vernon, will officiate at funeral services Monday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m within the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home.
