MAAG, Armin Delwin Eugene of 2849 E. Sunset Drive died at home Saturday, April 26, 1997. He was 84. At his request, no service will be held. Entombment will be in Greenacres Memorial Park Mausoleum. Born Feb. 4, 1913, to Oswald and Katherine Naser Maag in Bellingham, he was a lifelong Whatcom County resident. Mr. Maag was a member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44, F&AM, and B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 194. He enjoyed bowling, boating, and bird-dog hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Twylah Maag, in 1991. Survivors include his sister, Alma Wellman, of Orcas Island.MAAG, Arthur Leonard - Memorial services for retired carpenter Arthur Leonard Maag, 93, of 2109 Queen St., will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Maag died Thursday (March 14, 1991) at home. He was born March 30, 1897 in Olman, Ill. He lived in Whatcom County most of his life. He married Hazel Wetzel in 1932. She died in 1977. Mr. Maag attended Ureka School in Bellingham. He served in the U.S. Navy in Washington state during World War I. Mr. Maag was a carpenter who worked for Brooks Lumber, where he was a foreman for 10 years. He was a member of the carpenter's union in Bellingham. Survivors include a son, George H. Russell of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; a brother, Arman Maag of Bellingham; three sisters, Amanda Mann of Bellingham, Jennie Maag of Bellingham and Alma Wellman of Orcas Island; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. MAAG, Hazel C., age 77, resided at 2109 Queen St., passed away in a local convalescent center Friday, Jan. 14, (1977). Surviving are her husband, Arthur of Bellingham; 2 sons, George H. Russell of W. Virginia and Robert M. Russell of Renton, Wa.; also 5 grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 2:30 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.
MAAG, Jennie S. - Graveside services for long-time Bellingham resident Jennie S. Maag, 98, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bayview Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard C. Ericksen officiating. Miss Maag, of 2726 Alderwood Ave., died Tuesday, (July 2, 1991) in Bellingham. She was born July 20, 1892, in Illinois and was a Bellingham resident for more than 70 years. Miss Maag is survived by a brother, Armin Maag of Bellingham; sisters Amanda Mann of Bellingham and Alma Wellman of Orcas Island; and numerous nieces and nephews.
MAAG, Kate, age 95, of 1400 East Victor St., passed away at home Friday, March 10, (1961). Mrs. Maag had been a resident of this community for the past 54 years. Surviving relatives include five daughters: Mrs. Lulu Anderson, Mrs. Manda Mann, Miss Jennie Maag, and Mrs. Lillian Reeves, all of Bellingham, and Mrs. Alma Wellman of Orcas Island; four sons, George of Los Angeles, Arthur and Armin D., both of Bellingham, and Walter of Coos City, Ore.; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Christine Proffit of Arizona. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted Tuesday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place at Bay View Cemetery.
MAAG, Twylah Darleen, age 68, passed away Tues., Feb. 19, 1991 in Bellingham. She was born Aug. 30, 1922 in Underwood, ND; a 1940 graduate of Mt. Baker High school and served in the U.S. Navy from May 1943 to Oct. 1945. She had been a Bellingham resident since her marriage to Armin Maag, June 15, 1977. She is survived by her husband, Armin, of the family home; 2 sons, Douglas Lahey and wife Anne of Bellevue, Stephen Lahey and wife Rhonda of Redmond; 2 brothers, Bob Radke of Moses Lake, Neil Radke of Bellingham. MAAS, Simon - Funeral services for Simon Maas, of 611 Liberty St., Lynden, were conducted on Monday, Feb. 5, (1990) at 11 a.m., in Third Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gerrit W. Sheeres officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Maas passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 1990, in a Bellingham hospital at the age of 72. Simon was born in New Holland, South Dakota, on June 22, 1917, a son of John and Winnie (Keuning) Maas. He was employed as a truck driver in South Dakota. In Platte, S.D. he was married to Susie Westra on March 19, 1943, and together in 1954 they came to Whatcom County. He was employed as a nurseryman for 14 years at DNR Nursery on the Guide Meridian and after his retirement he worked at Dick Bedlington Farms. He was a member of Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden. Mr. Maas is survived by his wife, Susie, of the family home; four sons, Merlyn Maas of Lynden, Vernon Maas and wife Viney of Lynden and Alvin Maas and wife Sharon, also of Lynden; a brother, Egbert Maas and wife Tootie of Lynden; a sister, Florence Huizenga and husband Art of Corsica, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Bertha Maas of Corsica; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. (From The Lynden Tribune, February 7, 1990)MAASSEN, John H., Lynden resident passed away at the Christian Health Care Center on Friday July 13, 2001. He was 78. John was a son of Henry and Jeanette Maasen and was born in Doon, Iowa, on Jan. 17, 1923. He grew up there and married Henrietta Veldman in Rock Valley, Iowa, on March 17, 1950. John served with the U.S. Army as a medic in Korea and then operated a gas station in Iowa. In November 1969, they moved to Lynden. John was a dairy farmer for four years prior to working for Surge Dairy Supply for 12 years. He an Henrietta then became the janitors at the Second Christian Reformed Church for eight years. Mr. Maassen was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church and the Puget Sound Antique Tractor Association in Lynden. He is survived by his wife; six sons, Harlan Maassen and Jim Maassen and wife Leah, all of Lynden, Roger Maassen and wife Lynda and Allen Maassen and wife Laurie, all of Ferndale, Stan Maassen and wife Cindy of Bellingham and Loren Maassen and wife Kathy of Turtle Lake, Wis.; two daughters, Janice Fakkema and husband John of Lynden and Joann Morin and husband Russell of Granite Falls; 19 grandchildren; a brother Marinus Maassen and wife Jenny of Rock Valley, Iowa; three sisters, Alice Oostra and husband Marinus of Lynden, Rika VandenTop and husband Albert of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Cora VandenTop and husband Minard of Doon, Iowa; and numerous other relatives. Burial was last week in Monumenta Cemetery and was followed by funeral services in the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Dick Vriesman officiating. Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lynden.
MAASSEN, Marla Kay, age 33 of Ferndale, passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 1989, after a gallant effort to overcome cancer at the University of Washington Medical Center. She was born March 19, 1956, and had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom Co. Marla graduated from Ferndale High School and went on to become manager of Mt. Baker Lanes Restaurant and with her smile and beautiful eyes, brought joy and love to all around her. She enjoyed the hobby of gardening, bringing life and beauty to everything she touched. She was an avid teddy bear and doll collector, filling her home with the character of her giving and loving nature. Marla was loved by all those whose life she touched. We feel blessed to have known her. Marla is survived by: Joe Tetrick, her no. 1 main guy and his daughter Angela; Roger Maasen, her best friend and husband of Ferndale; parents Al and Barbara Hernandez and Lyle Sorenson of Bellingham; brothers Jeff Sorenson, Frank Hernandez, Sr., and Mike Hernandez, Sr. of Ferndale; nieces and nephews Frank Hernandez, Jr., Jody Hernandez, Dana Hernandez, and Mike Hernandez, Jr. of Ferndale; aunts and uncles Al and Bernie Lincoln of Pe Ell, WA, Mabel and Frank Henderson, and Irene and Gary Morgan of Everson, Vivian and Duane Junkin of Hoodsport, WA, and numerous other relatives and beloved friends. MABBOTT, Dwight C., age 70, of 910 Garden St., passed away in a local hospital Monday, December 7, (1964). A resident of Bellingham for 61 years he had been a former business agent for Meatcutters Local 247. He was also a member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44, F. & A.M. Survived by his wife, Agnes; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Clark of Bellingham and Mrs. Mary Hopley of Moses Lake; eight grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Clara C. King of Reno, Nev. MABERRY, Blanche Marie, 86, of Lynden passed away at Christian Rest Home in Lynden on April 6, 1993. A memorial funeral service was held on Friday at Lynden United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce O'Connor officiating. Burial preceded in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Maberry was born in Van Buren, Mo. on April 8, 1906, a daughter of Samuel and Ida Bales Galbraith. She was married in Van Buren to Leonard E. Maberry on Dec. 18, 1923 and together they came to Whatcom County in 1943. Blanche was a member of Lynden United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge. She was also known for her quilting and won many awards for her craft at the Northwest Washington Fair. Mr. Maberry passed away in 1968. Blanche is survived by her two sons Winfred Maberry and wife Kathleen and William "Jake" Maberry and wife "Mony," all of Lynden; daughter Janice Likkel and husband Fran of Everett; sister Nina Coleman of Lynden; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents;; two sisters, Dessie Pogue and Audrey Cowin; half-sister Grace Wright; and half-brother Oscar Sheets. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.
(From The Lynden Tribune, April 14, 1993)MABERRY, Curtis E., 60, of Lynden, Washington, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 23. He was surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Jake Maberry Gymnasium at Lynden High School. The memorial service will be followed by his final post-game celebration at Curt Mayberry Farm, Lynden, Washington. Curt was born on July 18, 1946, in Poplar Bluff,Missouri to W. E. and Kathleen Maberry and was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1964 and went on to attend Skagit Valley College, Washington State University, and graduated from Western Washington University with a teaching degree in social studies. He was a sports enthusiast and fulfilled his love of teaching children by coaching many youth teams in Lynden. In 1968, Curt joined his father in the farming business as W. E. Maberry & Son. He married Annette Warmink in 1973 and they soon purchased the family strawberry farm. Over the next two decades they expanded the farm from 60 acres to nearly 1000 acres of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and a processing plant. The Curt Maberry Farm has provided summer employment for many Whatcom County residents and Curt took great pride in giving tours to friends, family and members of the community. In addition to farming, family and sports were two of Curt's passions. He and Annette were the proud parents of three children and three grandchildren, with another grandchild due during this summer's harvest. Curt was a dedicated father and enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with his kids. He rarely, if ever, missed a basketball, baseball, softball or fastpitch game. Most of all, he was an extraordinary mentor, remarkable leader and special teacher for his children, their spouses and extended family. Community service was very important to Curt. He was a proud member of the Mount Baker Rotary, Lynden Park and Recreational Board, Washington Strawberry Board, Washington Red Raspberry Commission, a board member for the Lynden Boys and Girls Club and, for 24 years, a board member and president of the Northwest Washington Fair. He also sponsored and lent his time to countless community projects and fundraisers. Curt was preceded in death by his father, W. E. Maberry, his mother, Kathleen Maberry, and his brother-in-law, John Lobland. He is survived by Annette and their children, daughter Maranda Ekdahl (husband Jordan and twin girls Eva and Elsa), daughter Angie Costanti (husband CJ and son Cooper), son Matt Maberry (wife Carole and "baby berry" on the way); sisters Susan Lobland, Janet Templeton, and Linda Enfield (husband Marvin); aunt Janice Likkel (Fran), uncle Jake Maberry (Money), aunt June Dudycha (Bob) of Chicago, uncle C. D. McKinney (Rae) of Jefferson City, MO, and uncle John McKinney (Delma) of Knoxville, TN; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Curt was many things to many people but he was most importantly a great father, doting grandfather, beloved brother, loving uncle, nephew and cousin; a loyal friend, tireless farmer, respected boss, generous community member, avid outdoorsman, enthusiastic coach, and a devoted Lynden Lion.

Memorial funeral services were conducted on Monday in the Lynden United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce O'Connor officiating. Private burial preceded in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Maberry, 881 Loomis Trail Roda, Lynden, was born in Van Buren, Mo. on Aug. 11, 1924, the son of Leonard and Blanche (Galbraith) Maberry. Following graduation from high school in 1942, Winfred came to the Seattle area and then to Whatcom County in 1943 when he purchased a farm near Lynden. Also in 1943 the rest of the Maberry family moved to Whatcom County and in 1944 Winfred and his father became two of the first strawberry growers in the Northwest. On Sept. 24, 1945 he was married to Kathleen McKinney in Lynden. From December 1945 to August 1946 he served with the Army in Iceland, after which he continued to raise strawberries and then also raspberries in the Lynden are for approximately 40 years. In 1973 he was selected Farmer of the Year by the Bellingham Chamber of Commerce. Following his retirement he enjoyed numerous hunting and fishing trips with his brother Jake. He was a member of the Lynden United Methodist Church and for the past 20 years was a regular member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He is survived by his wife Kathleen of the family home; son Curtis Maberry and wife Annette of Lynden; three daughters, Susan Lobland and husband John of Puyallup, Janet Templeton and husband John of Bellingham and Linda Enfield and husband Marvin of Lynden; eight grandchildren; brother Jake Maberry and wife Money of Lynden; sister Janis Likkel and husband Fran of Edmonds; and numerous other relatives. Services were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.
(From The Lynden Tribune)MABREY, Rex E., 70, of 3016 E. North St. died Sunday (Feb. 4, 1990) at the Bellingham Care Center after a short illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Sheridan, Ind., and had been a Bellingham resident for 40 years. He married Kathryn Holeman in 1963 in Bellingham. Mr. Mabrey was a Navy pilot during World War II and worked for The Bon Marche for 12 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He designed and built radio control model airplanes. He flew one of his model planes from Whidbey Island to Bellingham, family members said. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Kay Sanford of Sumas and Rosemary Handerson of Everson; a son, Paul Ridley of Bellingham; a sister, Thelma Tierney of Southern California; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements are pending at Westford Funeral Home.

Mr. Mabry was a retired master mariner, holding an unlimited license as master of any ship of any gross tonnage, either steam or motor, upon any ocean and was a pilot of Puget Sound and adjacent waters. Deceased, following his immediate retirement, had lived in Bellingham at 2103 Eldridge Avenue, before moving to his later home, and was a member of the First Christian Church; a deacon of that church, and a member of the 99 Men's Bible Class. Surviving relatives are the widow, Mabel, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Frances LeCocq, of Seattle, and one brother Frank, of Bellingham. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Dr. A. Paul Daugherty, Monday, October 17, at 4 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
MABRY, Frank H., age 77, of 2109 A Street, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Jan. 21, (1951). Mr. Mabry had been a resident of this community for the past 63 years, having come to this county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Mabry in 1883 to a homestead between Lynden and Blaine, and was the brother of the late Arthur S. Mabry. Deceased had taught school in the county for many years prior to his retirement a few years ago, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving relatives are his niece, Mrs. Irwin J. LeCocq, and one grand-niece, Miss Janice Irene LeCocq, both of Seattle, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Arthur A. Mabry, of Bellingham. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Bristow, pastor of the First Christian Church, Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
MABUS, Annie V. – A memorial service for Annie V. (Page) Mabus of Coupeville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion in Oak Harbor. Mrs. Mabus died from complications caused by a blood clot on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000 in Coupeville. She was 55. Born April 21, 1945 to Bert and Ida (Boykin) Page in Buffalo, Texas, she moved to Whatcom County in 1947. Mrs. Mabus attended school in Lynden and Bellingham and graduated from McDonald Beauty College. On July 5, 1979, she married Robert Mabus in Oak Harbor. Mrs. Mabus worked as a hair dresser. She enjoyed playing bingo. Her father died in 1957 and one niece died 1970. Survivors include her husband of Coupeville; son Burt Page of Oak Harbor; daughters Carol Black and Monica Love, both of Coupeville, and Dee Dee Ryan of Yuma, Ariz.; mother of Bellingham; brother Burt W. Page of Stroud, Okla.; sisters Linnie Schutrum of Lakeview, NY, Elvia "Ellie" Taylor of Coupeville, and Lucille "Luci" Shockey and Mildred "Midge" Taylor, both of Bellingham; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Macari had been a resident of Bellingham for the past sixty years and was a retired miner. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Bellingham Aerie No. 31. Surviving relatives include, his son, Joseph Macari Jr.; one step-son, Lawrence Poletto, and two step-daughters, Mrs. Teresa Bamber, and Mrs. Julia Hind, all of Bellingham. Requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of the soul within the Church of the Assumption, Saturday, November 8, at 9 a.m. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. G. Stafford, celebrant. MacARTHUR, Mabel E., passed away Nov. 25th in Vancouver, Wa. at the age of 89 years. She has lived in Vancouver for the past 27 years, prior to this in B'ham, Wa. She is survived by 4 sons: Gordon E. MacArthur of Vancouver, Russell B. MacArthur of Kent, Wa., Frank E. MacArthur of Eureka, Ca. & Lee F. MacArthur of Vancouver. 2 daughters: Mrs. Ray (Roberta) Tisdel of B'ham. & Mrs. James (Inez) Wendler of Milwaukee, Ore. 24 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren & 5 great great grandchildren. MacARTHUR, Margaret, age 49 of 1409 F St., passed away at the family home Thursday, August 11, (1966). Mrs. MacArthur leaves to survive 1 son, Rocky of the U.S. Marine Combat Unit, Vietnam; her father, James Monaghan of this city. MacARTHUR, Ralph Earl, 66, of Lynden died suddenly in Lynden on Saturday, April 10, 1993. A memorial funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of Latter-day Saints, 5800 Northwest Road, Ferndale, with Bishop Dehardt A. Erickson officiating. Burial will precede in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden at 10:45 a.m. Mr. MacArthur was born on Aug. 14, 1926 in New Brunswick, Canada. He was raised in New Brunswick and served in the Canadian Armed Services during World War II. In Vancouver, B.C. on April 2, 1954 he was married to Louisa Lawman. During his career, Ralph was a salesman for auto dealerships in Vancouver, B.C. and Southern California areas. Ralph and Louisa moved to Lynden four years ago where he was a member of the LDS Church, Lynden Ward. Mr. MacArthur is survived by his wife of 39 years, Louisa of the family home; two daughters, Sandra Caesar of San Diego, Calif. and Lana Vasquez and husband Larry of LaJolla, Calif.; his son, Brad and wife Nancy MacArthur of Appelton, Wis.; four brothers, Lloyd, Don and Llewellyn, all of New Brunswick, and Bill of Victoria, B.C.; three sisters, Katherine Bragdon of New Brunswick, Mildred Maddon of Florida and Fay Davenport of North Carolina; and three grandchildren. Services and arrangements are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

Mrs. Macaulay was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania July 1, 1890 and moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Wallace to Washington State when she was 5 years old. She graduated from Fairhaven High School and the University of Washington; taught school in Seattle, Sequim, and Deeming. July 2, 1919 Adeline Wallace married John R. Macaulay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Macaulay who homesteaded the Macaulay farm in 1883. Mrs. Macaulay was preceded in death by her husband John and a son, John Wallace, and at the time of her death had resided at the family homestead nearly 60 years. She is survived by her son Charles R. Macaulay, Everett; and her daughter Katherine M. Woolf, Deming; five grandchildren, Brian and Robert Macaulay, Everett; Karen W. Roff, Snohomish; Kenneth Woolf and Jonalyn Woolf, both of Deming; four great-grandchildren, Franklyn and Karlyn Roff, Snohomish; Steven and Shain Woolf, Deming; a brother, Charles S. Wallace, Yuma, Arizona; and a sister, Elizabeth W. Whitfield, Bellingham. Mrs. Macaulay was a charter member and past president of the Mount Shuksan American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 224, Deming, and a past chapeau of the Whatcom County Salon Eight and Forty. Evening services were held at Jones Funeral Home, 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 with Rev. Neil Higbee officiating. The cremation was at Greenacres Crematorium.
MACAULAY, John R., of Deming, Washington, passed away Sunday morning, May 24, (1953) as a result of an auto accident. Mr. Macaulay was a life resident of this community and was a dairy farmer. He attended the Presbyterian Church, and was a member and past commander of the American Legion, Mt. Shuksan Post No. 224, and was a member of the society of the 40 et 8. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Adeline Macaulay, at home; one son, Charles R. Macaulay, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Katherine Woolf, of Deming; two grandchildren; two brothers, Norman Macaulay, of Deming, and Murray Macaulay, of Forks; two sister, Mrs. Margaret Graham, of this city, and Mrs. Jessie Van Liew, of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. James Martyn Wilson and officers of the 40 et 8 Wednesday, May 27, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.
MACAULAY, Mildred G., age 88, died Sunday, March 26, 1989, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. Services were held Wednesday, March 29, at Greenacres Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Tweedie and Rev. Neil Higbee officiating. She was born Oct. 1, 1900, in Eureka, Kansas, and arrived in Deming in 1905 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira J. Cook. After her marriage to Norman G. Macaulay, the couple moved to the Olympic Peninsula. She was appointed postmaster at Sappho, Wash., following the footsteps of her father, who was postmaster at Deming for 33 years. Mrs. Macaulay retired as Sappho postmaster after 20 years of service when the family returned to Deming to permit the children to attend school in the Mount Baker School District. Mrs. Macaulay was a very active leader in the Deming community. She worked in both the Deming Post Office and the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company for many years. She was also active in the Mount Baker High School Parent-Teacher Association and Rome Grange, where she was secretary for 26 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and secretary of Nooksack Chapter No. 171, O.E.S., for 34 years. She was a Past Worthy Matron and Past Representative to Iowa, and was a charter member of the Mount Shuksan American Legion Auxiliary, holding the offices of president, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Macaulay played piano for the Deming Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years. Her husband, Norman, died in 1965. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Morris of Girdwood, Alaska; and a son Donald Macaulay of Lansdale, Penn.; three grandchildren and 10 nephews and nieces. Arrangements were by Jones Funeral Home.

Macaulay who died Sept. 21, (1981) after a lingering illness in Seattle, where he had lived with his daughter, Jean, the past year and a half. Macaulay, the son of Hugh and Annie Macauley who were the third homesteaders in the Deming area, was born at the home of their friends, the pioneer David Wight family in Clearbrook on March 29, 1889, the same year Washington Territory became a state. Murry Macaulay grew up on the family homestead and was married to Pearl McLeod in 1915. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Forks in 1965 with all their children and grandchildren present. Pearl Macaulay died in 1969. The couple owned and operated a meat market 17 years in Deming; then moved to Forks where they owned and operated the City Cash Market until his retirement. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Hart Duling, Seattle; two sons, Hugh Macaulay, Juneau, Alaska and Neil Macaulay, McMinnville, Oregon; two sisters, Margaret Graham, Bellingham, and Jessie Van Liew, Wesley Gardens, Des Moines, Wash. There are 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He had two brothers who preceded him in death, Norman and John.
Memories of Murry D. Macaulay include his years of service to the schools in Deming and Forks; his membership in the I.O.O.F. and Elks Lodges of which he was a charter and life member; membership in the Forks Congregational Church, and support of the Deming Presbyterian Church. A big event in his life were the nights he spent as a judge on top of Mt. Baker to certify that the marathon runners actually reached the peak in their race from Bellingham to the top of Mt. Baker and return. His body was interred in Woodlawn Cemetery next to his wife, Pearl. A poignant moment at the cemetery was when the family and relatives were greeted on arrival by Bob Sorensen, 97, who had made the trip from his home to pay his respects to his old friend.MACAULAY, Norman G., age 77, Deming, passed away Monday, August 30, (1965). Surviving are his widow, Mildred; a son, Donald E.; daughter, Mrs. Claude H. Morris, Jr.; 3 grandchildren; brother, Murry D.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Judson Van Liew and Mrs. Robert L. Graham; nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Neil Higbee Friday, September 3 at 1 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home. Burial Greenacres.
MacCLAIN, John Carl of Bellingham died at home Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997. He was 63. At his request, no public service will be held. Born May 25, 1934, in Spokane, he grew up there. Mr. MacClain served in the U. S. Marine Corps in the 1950s. He worked as a traveling salesman and a truck driver. Mr. MacClain lived in Bellingham for six years. Survivors include companion Barb Butler of Bellingham; daughters Linda Williams of Chatteroy, Laura MacClain of Austin, Texas, Sandra Fisette of Spokane and Leslie Curtis of Spokane; sons Michael MacClain and Robert MacClain both of Spokane; brother Myron Dalbey of Aloha, Ore.; sister JoAnn DeLaune of Poulsbo; and 10 grandchildren. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.
MacDONALD, Alavander, age 38 years of 2325 Dean Avenue passed away suddenly Friday, August 19, (1960) in a local hospital. He was a lifetime resident of Bellingham, an employe of the Pacific Coast Paper Mills, and a member of the Church of the Assumption, the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 194 and a veteran of W.W.II and of Korea. Survivors include his wife, Inez, and his mother, Mrs. Florence MacDonald of Fontana, Calif. Rosary will be said Monday, August 22, at 7:30 p.m. within the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Requiem Mass will be read Tuesday, August 23, at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Assumption. MacDONALD, Andrea Denyse "Andi" passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2005, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was 51, born October 23, 1953, in Seattle to Glen and Thelma (Crossman) Chaffin. Andi married Peter MacDonald in Seattle on December 29, 1984. She was a beautiful and loving wife and mother, who put her family and God before all else. Andi was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed scrap booking, genealogy, and cemetery preservation. Andi is survived by her loving husband Peter of Ferndale; son Christopher Hays of Renton; daughters Michellaine Lee of Everett and Athena Denyse MacDonald of Ferndale; mother Thelma Chaffin of Bellingham; father Dorris Hobgood of Sebree, KY; sister Glenda Frantz of Renton; brothers Greg Chaffin of MN, and Steven Hobgood of IN; and four grandchildren, Julie, Aidan, Alyssa and Ulric. Family services were held in Ferndale. The sunshine Andi leaves in the souls of those who knew her will never diminish. Her passion for life was an example to all who knew her. Andi's love of her husband, children, and grandchildren will ensure her immortality in our family.

MacDONALD, Grace E. "Betty" of Anacortes, WA died Thursday, September 8, 1994. Born December 25, 1919 in Sioux City, Iowa to Vesta and Earl Lane. She was married September 10, 1948 to John D. "Jack" Macdonald in St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Macdonald was an avid golfer and gardener, but her true devotion was to her family. At her request there will be no services. MacDONALD, Jack Gilbert, age 54, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006. Jack was born in Bellingham, WA, November 28, 1951, and was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. Following high school graduation, Jack traveled to South America where, among his adventures he explored the Galapagos Islands and taught English to Children in Columbia. In the latter 1970s Jack took his ambitions to Alaska where he worked as a mechanic during construction of the oil pipeline,and proudly earned his membership in the International Union of Operating Engineers. It was shortly after this time that Jack was diagnosed with schizophrenia, an illness that would create tremendous challenges and alter the path of his future. Jack continued to see the beauty in life, often capturing it through the lens of his camera as he ventured around Whatcom County. He tended to look on the brighter side and encouraged others to do the same. He was kind, caring and generous. It was these qualities, along with his quick smile and friendly greeting that were familiar to the many people whose lives he touched in the downtown community. Jack continued to be surrounded by those who loved him and helped him along the way, through the final days of his struggle with his illness. Jack is survived by his mother, Donna MacDonald of Bellingham; his father, Alex MacDonald of Everett; sisters Linda Holman of Bellevue, Nancy MacDonald of Portland, and Jan Jones of Tumwater; his son, Kevin Vail; one granddaughter; one niece and six nephews. Preceding Jack in death were his sister Jill and his grandparents, Floyd and Wilma Johnson, and John and Deborah MacDonald. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 22nd, at the Moles-Bellingham Funeral Home, with a Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 23rd at the Moles-Greenacres Chapel in Ferndale.

He was a beef farmer, a member of the United States Trotting Association and was a well-known horseman in California and Canada. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann MacDonald on Nov. 14, 1983. He is survived by his wife Deborah; one son Alex MacDonald and wife Sherry of Bellingham; three daughters, Margaret Hansen of Renton, Virginia Mioff of San Jose, Calif. and Dolores Ritter and husband Mel of Bellingham; four sisters, Ruth Merriman of Bellingham, Dora Dawson of Seattle, Georgia Fleck of Bellingham, Evelyn and husband Bus Hinote of Everson and one brother, James L. MacDonald and wife Signey of Bellingham. There are 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at Woodlawn Cemetery Friday, July 5 with Rev. Miss MacDonald died Sunday (Aug. 18, 1985) in Bellingham. A lifelong resident of Whatcom County, she was born Dec. 8, 1915, in Custer. She was an avid reader, and was a member of the second Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by a cousin, Harriet Smith of Bellingham.

MacDONALD, Mildred C. - Funeral services for Mildred C. MacDonald, 82, a former resident of the North Star Road, Ferndale, were held Monday afternoon in Anacortes. Mrs. MacDonald was born in London, Ontario, Canada and leaves to survive her husband, H. G. MacDonald; two sons, Alan of Arlington and George of Annett Island, Alaska; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Moen, Sedro Woolley; Mrs. Dorothy Roeder, Quilcine, Wash.; Mrs. Jean Canfield, Olympia, and Mrs. Bessie Dennis, Anacortes; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
MacDONALD, Monica D., age 84 of 1224 Cornwall Ave., passed away at her residence Saturday, Nov. 19, (1988). She has been a longtime resident of Bellingham & was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She had been a teacher in Whatcom County & Bellingham Schools for 40 years, a member of Retired Teachers Assoc. & Catholic Daughters of America. She was preceded in death by her husband Terry, a sister Mary, & daughter Mary. She leaves to survive her son Terry & wife Gaye MacDonald of Bellingham; granddaughters, Megan & Heather MacDonald, Kathleen Morse; 2 grandsons, Kevin & Kelly Morse. Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel. MacDONALD, Ralph A., age 19, who resided at 2705 Iron St., passed away in France on Saturday, Dec. 12, (1959) as a result of a car accident. Ralph MacDonald was with the U.S. Army of Engineers, having served two years in France. He had attended Bellingham High School. He leaves to survive his father, Ralph MacDonald of Bellingham, his mother, Mrs. Vera Ahlf; two sisters, Barbara and Katherine MacDonald, all of Aberdeen; two brothers, Gary D. MacDonald of Bellingham and James Ahlf of Aberdeen. Chaplain Clarence Lund will officiate at military services to be held in the chapel of Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 2 o'clock. Interment at Bay View Cemetery.
MacDONALD, Ralph M., age 48 years of 920 North Shore Drive, passed away in a local hospital January 11, 1967, after a brief illness. Mr. MacDonald had resided in Bellingham for his entire life, and was employed by American Fabricators. He was a member of the Shipwright Union and a veteran of World War II. He leaves to survive: His wife, Jean and one son, Gary of Bellingham, two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Smith and Mrs. Kathrine Ellis, of Hoquiam, Washington, also two brothers, Stanley MacDonald of Everson, and Elmer MacDonald of Spokane, and one sister, Mrs. Ron Bartlett of Bellingham and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 16th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home with Rev. Grant Whipple officiating. Interment at Bay View Cemetery.
MacDONALD, Raymond A., age 56 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Mamie E. MacDonald, passed away at the family residence, 2503 Elizabeth Street, Monday, January 27, (1947) after an illness of three months. Mr. MacDonald had been a resident of Bellingham for the past twenty-three years and was a painter by trade, was a member of the Painter's and Decorator's Union, Local No. 924. Surviving relatives include, beside the widow; one son, R. Jack MacDonald; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Phillips and Mrs. Edna Winfrey and one grandchild, all of Bellingham; one brother, Walter in Seattle; also a sister, Mrs. Mamie Sitton, of Seattle. Funeral services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, Thursday, January 30, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Gray, officiating. Interment in Bay View Cemetery.
MacDONALD, Raymond A., age 53, a former resident of Bellingham, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, (1976) at home in Wenatchee. During 1939 to 1945 he was a member of the 1st Special Forces of the Canadian-American Armed Forces. Among his survivors are his wife, former Arlene Evertz Kowsky; a son, Scott and a daughter, Kathryn all at home; step-daughter, Lori O'Neill of Bellingham; a step-son, John Christopher Kowsky Jr., of Spokane; also numerous other relatives. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Nov. 15 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father O'Sullivan as celebrant. Graveside services followed. Services were under the direction of Jones & Jones Funeral Chapel, Wenatchee.
MacDONALD, Roderick D. - Memorial services for R. D. (Bob) MacDonald, 90, of 6136 Vista Drive, Ferndale, were held Monday, Dec. 28 at Moles Funeral Home. He died Friday, Dec. 25, (1981). He had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom County, was a WWI army veteran, Past Commander of the Kulshan Post American Legion and was also active for many years in community affairs, formerly serving as a Ferndale councilman. He is survived by a daughter Deane and husband Howard DeGraaff of Lynden, a son Jack MacDonald and wife Betty of Conoga Park, Calif., four sisters, Georgia Fleck of Bellingham, Ruth Merriman of Bellingham, Evelyn Hinote of Everson, Dora Dawson of Seattle, two brothers, John and Jim MacDonald of Bellingham, a brother-in-law, Ford Wight of Laurel. There are five grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many other relatives.
MacDONALD, Signe Cemoria - Visitation for Signe Cemoria (Larson) MacDonald of Bellingham will be from 6 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenacres Memorial Park, with Bishop Butch Erickson officiating. Mrs. MacDonald died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Sunrise Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was 90. Mrs. MacDonald was born Aug. 23, 1909, to Lars Fredrich and Brita Marie (Oslin) Larson in Ferndale. On July 24, 1926, she married James L. MacDonald in Ferndale. He died in 1996. Mrs. MacDonald was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her son Stuart A. MacDonald died in 1994. Her three brothers and six sisters also died previously. Survivors include son Lloyd "Jim" MacDonald of Bellingham, daughter Patsy Erickson of Everson, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was a founder of Lynden Berry Growers, Inc., a director of the Federal Land Bank, a member of the Farm Bureau and the Soil Conservation Board. Surviving are his wife, Jean; 2 sons, Skip of Bellingham and Kern of Deming; a brother, Elmer of Sacramento, Calif. and a sister, Mae Bartlett of Bellingham; also 11 grandchildren. MacDOUGALL, Edward, pioneer timberman of the state who came to Bellingham when the Bellingham Iron Works, Inc., began operation and was associated with A. W. Talbot, passed away Thursday afternoon (April 24, 1947) at his home in the Hotel Leopold. Death was due to a heart attack. With Mrs. MacDougall he had lived at the hotel since 1942. Mr. MacDougall, prominently known throughout Washington and the Northwest, was born in Saginaw, Mich., in 1867, as as a boy settled with his parents on a farm near Port Townsend. In 1898 he was appointed by the governor of Washington to select the state timberlands in the Olympic Peninsula. For seven years he was timber buyer for the Weyerhauser Lumber company, making his home in Tacoma. For many years he operated logging camps in Western Washington, taking part in logging the townsite of Everett. During the first world war he owned and operated the Thorndyke logging camp on Hood's Canal. In 1911 he prevented a serious water famine for the city of Seattle. His logging then was on the watershed for that city and when the dam at Landsburg broke under flood conditions, Mr. MacDougall at his own expense and with his crew of 150 men repaired the dam, preventing the shutdown of Seattle's water supply. In later years he had engaged in various enterprises, located at one time in Detroit. During the last was he was buyer for all the timber for the Bellingham Iron Works. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie MacDougall; three daughters, Mrs. Alan A. Green, Mrs. Rhea Flanders and Miss Florence MacDougall, all of Seattle; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. P. W. Doyle, of Tacoma, Mrs. Joseph Bilodeaux, of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Clarence Zeitler, of Klamath Falls, Ore. The remains will be forwarded by the Bingham-Dahlquist funeral home to Seattle where the Joseph Manning & Sons mortuary will arrange for Catholic services and burial.
MacDOUGALL, Ronald R., age 40 years, passed away at the family residence on Chuckanut Drive, Friday, November 28, (1947) following a lingering illness. Mr. MacDougall had been a resident of Bellingham for one year, having previously lived in Seattle where he was a member of the Presbyterian church, and very active in Boy Scout work. He was in the employment of the U.S. government. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary G. MacDougall, and one son, Ronald Jr., at home; his parents; three brothers and two sisters, all of Seattle. The remains have been forwarded from the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home to Seattle where funeral services will be held and interment made.

MacFARLAND, Claude George, age 92, of Bellingham passed away Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at home. He was born January 18, 1905 to George and Ann (Hein) MacFarland. A lifetime Bellingham resident, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. MacFarland graduated from Whatcom High School in 1923. He was a member of Whatcom Lodge #151, F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, and the American Legion. He is survived by his second wife, Rene; stepdaughter, Jane Gordon-Ball of Bellingham; three grandchildren; sister Pearl Johnson of Washington, D.C. and many nieces and nephews. MacGILL, Ruth C., 37, wife of Bryson MacGill, 601 Seventeenth street, department manager at the Seattle First National bank, succumbed Monday (July 20, 1942) morning in a Los Angeles hospital, following a long illness. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Suzanne, her mother, Mrs. Edith Westoby, and two sisters, Florence Westoby, and Mrs. Lynn Taylor, of Vancouver, B.C.; and a third sister, Mrs. Ada Pye, of Negritos, Peru. MacGREGOR, Thomas P., age 60, 2305 Victor, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday, January 29, (1964) following an extended illness. He had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 21 years and was a printer at the Bellingham Herald Publishing Company. He was a member of the Typographical Union No. 353, Bellingham Bay Masonic Lodge, No. 44, F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Nile Temple of the Shrine, and Elks Lodge BPOE No. 194. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie E. MacGregor. The ritualistic services of the Bellingham Bay Masonic Lodge No. 44 will be conducted Monday, February 3, at 2:30 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. MACHEMER, Francis J., age 52 years, passed away suddenly at his home, 1015 Samish Highway, Tuesday, December 21, (1948). Mr. Machemer had been a resident of Bellingham for the past twenty-six years, was a member of the American Legion, Alexander J. Hamilton Post No. 7; the B.P.O.E. and the Bellingham Yacht Club. Mr. Machemer served his country in World War I in the U.S. Army and overseas service. Military services will be rendered by the Alexander Hamilton Post No. 7, Monday, December 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home, followed by cremation.
MACHIN, Charles, age 76 years, passed away at a Seattle hospital Tuesday, March 12, (1946) following a lingering illness. Mr. Machin had previously lived in Whatcom County for about thirty years and leaves to survive two sons, Lee H., of Everett, Wash., George L., of Seattle; two brothers, John and Floyd, both of Wamego, Kan., and Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, of Plainville, Kan.; also three grandchildren. MACHU, Stacey Marie - A graveside service for Stacey Marie (Towle) Machu of Austin, Texas, formerly of Whatcom County, will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Greenacres Memorial Park near Ferndale. A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ the King Community Church, with the Rev. Steve Mason officiating. Mrs. Machu died of complications caused by child-onset diabetes on Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at her home. She was 42. Born Feb. 2, 1958, to Jack and Donna (Hinote) Towle in Bellingham, she graduated with honors from Nooksack Valley High School in 1976. She attended Bellingham Technical College's Dental Assistant Program and also attended Western Washington University. Mrs. Machu married Bruce Machu in Austin. He died in 2000. Her infant daughter Courtney Drew and her father also died previously. Survivors include her mother, of Bellingham, brother Gregory Towle of Beverly Hills, Calif., sister Shelly McKay of Bellingham three nephews and many other relatives. Arrangements are by Jerns Funeral Chapel.

Surviving relatives are her husband, Frederick, one son Robert, two daughters, Jean Parker and Miss Ann MacIntyre and two grandchildren, all of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Russell Kingsbury, Pottsville, Penn.; and Mrs. Elvid Jones, Wilkes Barre, Penn.; two brothers, Reginald Curtis Nanticocke, Penn.; and William Curtis Langley, Penn.; one aunt, Mrs. M. She was born Dec. 18, 1952 in Miami, OK to Byrl and Dora (Rhine) Akers and had been a Whatcom County resident for 24 years. She married Carl H. Mack on Mar. 24, 1974, in Bellingham. She enjoyed gardening and garage sales. Mrs. Mack was also pursuing a Medical Receptionist career at Bellingham Technical College. She was a wonderful mother and house wife. Survived by her daughters, Elura Jane Akers and Karla Danielle Mack both of Bellingham and Judy Deann Mack of Anchorage, AK; sisters, Corena Rohde of Missouri and Reva Cummings of Miami, OK; brother, Lonnie Akers of Missouri; granddaughters, Tracii (sic) Deann Kohler, Justina Chyanne Mack, one unborn granddaughter, and one unborn grandson; and numerous other family members. Born in Lytton, B.C., on November 10, 1926, Mary had lived and worked as a farm laborer in the Lynden area for many years. She is survived by her husband Felix Box; two sons, Richard Mack of Brewster, Wash., and Leonard Smoker of Tacoma; two daughters, Mrs. Angela Espinoza of Omak and Mrs. Lilly Churape also of Brewster; five grandchildren; a brother and two nieces. Funeral services will be held in Lytton, B.C., followed by burial in Stein Cemetery, Lytton. Local arrangements were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

MACKAY, Hillary Ann, infant daughter of Tammi MacKay and Teddy Davis, of 2180 Yew St., died Feb. 13, 1992, at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus in Bellingham. She died at birth. MACKAY, James Lester, 100, of Bellingham died Jan. 10, 1992. He was born in 1891 in St. Louis, Mo., to James Taylor and Clara Messmer MacKay. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He married Mable Crouch on Jan. 28, 1920 in Missouri. She died in 1987. Mr. MacKay received a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in sociology from the University of Missouri; and a doctorate in guidance and personnel from New York University. He taught school in the Philippines as a young man. He was the first principal of the Michael School in St. Louis, and held various teaching and administrative positions for the St. Louis public schools. He was rehabilitation officer for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., and later was director of the Veteran's Administration Counseling Center at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and director of guidance for the South San Antonio School District. A licensed psychologist, he was a member of numerous educational, guidance and related organizations.
After retirement he taught guidance at the University of Maryland and at Army bases in Western Europe. He was active with the Council on Aging in Bexar County, Texas, where he founded and directed The Institute of Lifetime Learning, dedicated to improving life of seniors in that area. He was twice a delegate from Texas to The White House Conference on Aging. Mr. MacKay was honored as senior citizen of the month by Colonel Sanders and the National Council of Aging for his contributions to the San Antonio community. He also received awards from the American Red Cross for lifelong contribution to its swimming programs. The Boy Scouts of America awarded The Scoutmaster's Key to him for more than 25 years' service as a scoutmaster, commissioner, field commissioner and trainer of scoutmasters. He was also honored by R.S.V.P., the state of Texas, the Alamo Area Council of Governments, the Texas State Department of Welfare, the American association of Retired Persons, the Mental Health Association of Bexar County, the South Texas Personnel and Guidance Association, and the South San Antonio Public Schools.
Mr. MacKay had lived in Bellingham since 1983. His 100th birthday was celebrated Set. 22, 1991, at a reunion of family and friends which included six of his former scouts. Survivors include his sons, William R. MacKay of Bellingham and Edward J. MacKay of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for March. Arrangements are by Whatcom Cremation Association.MACKAY, Lindsy R., age 1 of 1000 Liberty St. passed away Sat., March 10, (1984). She is survived by her parents Mr. & Mrs. David B. MACKAY, Ronald N., 67, 413 Viewcrest Road, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 1986) in his home. Mr. MacKay was born June 11, 1919, in Saskatchewan, Canada. He had lived in this area since 1975. MacKAY, Tami Ann, 28, lifelong Bellingham resident, died at Sehome Park Convalescent Center on Thursday, July 13, 1995, following an extended illness. She was born in Bellingham on Jan. 27, 1967, to Lyle and Sally (Viles) Abbott. She attended Bellingham schools. She had been employed at Kmart, and later at Bayside Rehabilitation Center as a nursing aide, prior to her illness. She loved caring for others, especially at the nursing home where she was an employee. Survived by two sons, Damian and David; daughter, Tabitha; parents, Lyle and Sally Abbott of Bellingham; sister Kelli Abbott of Seattle; two brothers, Jeff of Bellingham and Chad of Alabama; grandmother, Bonnie Brugman of Bellingham; grandfather, Robert F. Viles Sr. of Arizona; several aunts, uncles and cousins from Washington and Maine. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Hillary. Visitation will be Sun., July 16, 2-5 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Mon., July 17, 2 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park with Rev. Dick Christensen officiating.

MacKEE, Harry C. - Bellingham's "Wandering Churchman," Harry C. MacKee, died Friday (August 17, 1956) afternoon. Mr. MacKee used the title during the period when he wrote a weekly review for the Bellingham Herald of different church services he attended each Sunday. He died in a local hospital, after a heart attack suffered about a month ago. The 71-year-old resident of Bellingham had lived here since 1933. Besides his Herald writing, Mr. MacKee had for several years conducted an education and religious program for a local radio station. Surviving him are his widow, Carolyn; a sister, Mrs. J. D. W. Snowden of Painsville, Ohio; a cousin, Mrs. Frank S. Knight of Collingswood, N.J.; and a step-son, Willis Loy Berthaumn of Stevenson, Wash. Funeral services for Mr. MacKee, a member of the Champion Street Baptist Church, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home by the Rev. Clifford M. Dickau. MACKENZIE, Lillian May, age 87, went to be with her Lord on May 7, 2006. She was born Jan 9, 1919, in Cheverie, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Earl and Martha Lake. She married John Mackenzie in 1938 and lived a number of places, including Nova Scotia, Boston, Florida, Texas and Washington. Lillian was a born again Christian and dedicated her life to the Lord. She enjoyed Hawaiian and Southern gospel music, which gave her much comfort in later years. When she was 48 years old, Lillian went back to school to become a licensed practical nurse. Lillian loved to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada; Hawaii was her favorite trip. She was preceded in death by husband John in 1972. She is survived by daughter Katherine (husband Richard) Bridgeforth of Everson, sister Myrtle L'Hirondelle of Chilliwack, B.C., and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at Living Water Fellowship, Bellingham on Mon, May 15, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ronny Davis officiating followed by a reception at the church.

Mrs. MacKenzie was a surgical technician at St. Clare Hospital in Schenectady for many years. She was a former member of the Salvation Army and enjoying reading and word games. She had been in Lynden for about a year. Mrs. Mackey was a free-lance writer and an accomplished musician. She was born March 10, 1920, in Belleville, Ill., and served in the Women's Army Corps in World War II. She resided in Levittown, Penn., until 1984. Mr. and Mrs. Mackey moved to the northwest Ozarks near Harrison in 1984. Survivors include her husband, George W. (Bill) Mackey, of Harrison; two daughters, Laura Jean Stevens and husband Gunther of Lynden, and Pamela Jane Duft and husband Dr. George J. Duft of Abbotsford, B.C.; a daughter-in-law, Donna L. Mackey of Longmont, Colo.; two brothers, Marshal H. Place and wife Maria of Seale, Alaska, and Norman C. Place of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Place of Shilohm, Ill.; and six grandchildren. MACKLIN, Patricia Nieman, age 63, of Ferndale, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 1994 at Bayside Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bellingham, after a short illness. She was born April 2, 1931 in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to Hugh and Harriet (Rex) Nieman and had been a Whatcom County resident for the past 7 years. She married Joseph David Macklin on June 9, 1954 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. She grew up in a Navy family, married a career Army officer, and spent the majority of her life moving and raising kids. Mrs. Macklin was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign War Post #9474, Custer and the Diabetes Support Group in Ferndale. She loved children, flowers and animals. She is survived by her husband Col. Joseph D. "Dave" Macklin of the family home; 2 daughters, Pauline Marie Evanosky & husband P. MacLEOD, Malcolm, age 81 of Lopez Island, passed away in an Anacortes hospital January 20, 1983. He was born in Isle of Lewis, Scotland on Sept. 23, 1891. He lived in this area for the past 66 years. He had been in the United States since 1913, coming first to Seattle. He was a veteran of WWI, a member of the United Church of Christ, was on the San Juan Planning Commission for 17 years, Honorary life member of the Lions Club, past Post Commander of the American Legion, charter member of the Commercial Club, charter member of the Grange, he was board member of the Port Commission. He was well known for his Bag Pipe playing. Survived by his wife, Mary Emma of Lopez Island; 1 son Malcolm J. MacLeod of Bellingham; 3 daughters, Mary E. Harris of Bellingham, Joan K. Congdon of Oakland, Calif. and Gwen M. Lamb of Columbus, Mississippi; 4 sisters, Mrs. Allan McGregor of Florida, Mrs. Frank Guest of Victoria, B.C., Mrs. Victor Pauley of Florida and Mrs. Fred C. Trump of New York; 1 brother Donald MacLeod of Australia; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. She spent 8 yrs. in England during World War I as a nurse. She married Malcolm MacLeod May 3, 1922. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a founding member of Richardson Guild & the American Legion Auxiliary & the Lopez Congregational Church. She is survived by her son Duncan J. MacLeod & wife Beverly of B'ham; 3 daughters Mary E. Harris & husband Howard of B'ham., Joan Congdon & husband Bob of CA, & Gwen Lamb & husband Keith of FL; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews George & Gene Higgins. MACLIN, Lamar Leeotis, age 42, of 2419 1/2 Peabody Street, passed away December 1st, (1966). He had been a resident of this city for the past five months. MACMILLAN, Elsie Mae - A memorial service for Elsie Mae Macmillan of 2803 Cedarwood Ave. will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westford Funeral Home chapel. Mrs. Macmillan died at home Friday, March 7, 1997. She was 77. Born Nov. 5, 1919, to Oli and Soffia Arngrimson Bjarnason in Saskeatchewan, Canada, she lived in Whatcom County most of her life. She married Hugh Macmillan on Aug. 24, 1938. Mrs. Macmillan worked as a executive secretary at Mobil Oil Corp. from 1953 to 1977. She enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage and writing poetry. Mrs. Macmillan was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Macmillan, in 1996. Survivors include her husband, son Gerald Macmillan of Bellingham, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
MACMILLAN, Gordon James Allan - Memorial services for Gordon James Allan Macmillan of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Roger Cone officiating, followed by a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. Mr. Macmillan died Monday, July 19, 1999, at Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. He was 91. Born April 21, 1908, in Victoria, B.C., he graduated from Custer High School and was a local resident since 1912. He married Thelma E. May on Sept. 4, 1932, in Ferndale. Mr. Macmillan worked at Bloedel Donovan Lumber Mill in the 1940s, and later worked for Hohl Feed and Seed of Bellingham. He worked for Darigold Inc. in Bellingham, and retired from Darigold's Lynden powder plant. Mr. Macmillan was a member of the Teamsters union; Birchwood Presbyterian and First Christian churches, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and council member; Custer High School Reunion Committee; and Mount Baker Toppers Barbershop Chorus. He also was an officer for Washington State Grange. His hobbies included attending Ferndale High School games for 20 years; being a square dance caller from 1950 to 1957 for the Rome, Haynie, Orchard and Marietta granges; singing; and working with wood. He created children's toys and household items and worked on remodeling projects. Survivors include his wife, of the family home; daughters Kathleen Macmillan of Bellingham and Dorene Bay and Rosemary Meyers, both of Blaine; son James Macmillan of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister Catherine Macmillan of Bellingham; brothers Hugh Macmillan of Bellingham and Ken Macmillan of Blaine; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Whatcom Cremation Association.
MACMILLAN, Hugh A., age 89 of Bellingham, passed away November 12, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born June 12, 1914 in Custer, WA to John and Elizabeth (Lory) Macmillan. There he grew up on their family farm with siblings, including his twin brother. He married Elsie Bjarnason on August 24, 1938 and had one son, Gerald. Hugh loved to golf and garden and in his younger days he was an avid hunter. He was a boilermaker for most of his life and belonged to the Int'l Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local #709. Hugh also loved to travel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, all of his siblings and his grandson. Hugh is survived by his son Jerry of Bellingham, four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

MACOMBER, Doris Marie of 3115 Squalicum Parkway died Saturday, May 15, 1993. She was 75. Mrs. Macomber was cremated and a private family burial was held. She was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Puyallup to Walter and Caroline Murdock Conner. She lived in Bellingham for many years before moving to Alaska. She returned to Bellingham in 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Macomber, in March 1989. Survivors include daughter Kaye Dykas of Bellingham; sons Bob Macomber and Curt Macomber, both of Fairbanks, Alaska; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. MACOMBER, William R., age 77, of 1200 Lincoln St., No. 430, Bellingham, and formerly of 728 H St. Rd., Lynden, died Monday Feb. 6, 1989, at his home. He was born June 16, 1911 in Bellingham. He was a former mayor of Juneau, Alaska, past president of the Juneau Chamber of Commerce, a 30-year employee of the Haskell Corp., and a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local No. 40. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine and had been an active parade participant since 1949. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Doris; a sister, Dorothy Reser; and a daughter, Kay Dykas, all of Bellingham; two sons, Robert Macomber and wife Deborah and Curtis Macomber and wife Gerry of Fairbanks, Alaska; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. MacPHEE, Agnes Blanche - A memorial service for Agnes Blanche MacPhee of Lynden will be at 11 a.m. March 11 at Grace Baptist Fellowship, with the Rev. Delaine Bailey officiating. Mrs. MacPhee died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Christian Health Care Center. She was 82. She was born May 21, 1917, to William and Mary Maloney Frohmyer in New York City and grew up in Queens. She married Alexander MacPhee on Oct. 10, 1936, in New York City. He died Feb. 6. Mrs. MacPhee worked in the aerospace industry in Southern California for many years and was a homemaker. She lived in Whatcom County for three years. A volunteer at Northridge Hospital in Northridge, Calif., for 20 years, she was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Van Nuys, Calif., for 50 years and a member of its Women's Altar Guild. She enjoyed crocheting and taking care of her husband. Survivors include sons Alan MacPhee of Lynden and Dave MacPhee of Gig Harbor daughter Kathy Adamo of Eugene, Ore. nine grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. MacPhee of Lynden will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Fellowship in Lynden, with the Rev. Delaine Bailey officiating. Mr. MacPhee died of natural causes Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Lynden Manor. He was 87. Born Nov. 1, 1912, in Leonardo, N.J., he graduated from Redbank Catholic High School in 1930. On Oct. 10, 1936, he married Agnes Frohmyer in Jersey City, N.J. Mr. MacPhee retired from Prudential Insurance Co. after 45 years of service. Mr. MacPhee was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Van Nuys, Calif., for more than 50 years. He was an avid golfer and football fan. Survivors include his wife, of Lynden Manor sons Alan MacPhee of Lynden and David MacPhee of Gig Harbor daughter Kathleen Adamo of Eugene, Ore. nine grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. MACRAE-SMITH, Agnes - Burial services for Agnes Macrae-Smith, 79, a former Bellingham resident who lived recently with a daughter in Auburn, were today at Green Acres Memorial Park. Mrs. Macrae-Smith died Sunday (July 1, 1988) following a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 21, 1909, in Tioga, N.D., and lived in Bellingham and Everett before Auburn. MACRAE-SMITH, William, a former manager of Alpine Cafeteria in Bellingham died Monday (Sept. 30, 1974) in Everett. He was 66. Born in Bellingham, Mr. Macrae-Smith was a graduate of Bellingham High School in 1927. He later managed the Alpine Cafeteria but moved to Everett to manage the Alpine outlet there. He also managed Alpine restaurants in Seattle and Tacoma before his retirement in 1968. He was past president of the Culinary Workers Union in Bellingham and past vice president of the state Culinary Union. He was also a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bellingham and Everett. Survivors are the wife, Agnes; three daughters, Dorothy Kahway of Auburn, Betty McCrillis and Bonnie Ziegler, both of Everett; two sons, William of Washogal (sic), and John of Marysville; two brothers, John and Fred, both of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Hurley Buckner of Bellingham, and Mrs. Cy Gnadt of Deming. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Everett and graveside services at 3 p.m. Thursday at Greenacres Memorial park in Whatcom County. He was born on October 29, 1948 in Ellington, Missouri to James and Bertha Macy. Denny served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and was a decorated Vietnam veteran. He loved fishing, boating and golf. He loved life, and had a sense of humor as big as the world, right up until the end. Denny is survived by his wife, Sharen Macy; sons, Brent (Shannon) and Greg (Amy) Macy, Shane Bouffiou and Bryan (Vanessa) Bell; daughter, Babbette Shannon; brothers, Allen, Earl and Ray Macy; sisters, Nita Peterson and Mae Vanderpool; and grandchildren, Larrissa, Kyle, Caitlyn, Sabrina, Aidan, Brianna and Jax; and Victoria due in September. Born on Nov. 1, 1897, in Minneapolis, Minn., she moved with her family to Seattle in 1901 and to Laurel in 1903. Mrs. Macy attended Ten Mile and Laurel schools. Moving to Bellingham in 1916, she worked for the telephone company and at the Kemphaus store. She sold Avon products for 18 years and married James Macy in 1921. She was a Jehovah's Witness. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Sand of Bellingham; siblings Zella Medcalf, Howard Medcalf, Frank Medcalf, Donald Medcalf, Evelyn Johnson and Murlen Medcalf, all of Bellingham; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; a numerous nieces and nephews. At her request, there will be no funeral service. Inurnment will be at Ten Mile Cemetery.

Mr. Macy had resided in this community for the past 42 years and was a well-known general building contractor, and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Surviving relatives are his widow, Elsie A. at home; one daughter, Mrs. Donna J. Strong, and granddaughter, Miss DeLeah Caprice Strong, both of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. W. W. Hatfield of Clermont, Fla. and Mrs. Alice Floyd of W. Milton, Ohio; two brothers Macy (no first name) and Fred Macy of W. Milton, Ohio. The remains rest at the Funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Mr. E. C. Kennedy Monday, Jan. 18, at 3:00 p.m. Cremation. Honorary casketbearers will be John Slanika, Louis Provost, Glen Keith, Dr. A. H. Knaak, Cecil Morse, and Russell Lind.
MACY, Lawrence Eugene, age 44, of Route 2, Lynden passed away Saturday, July 23, (1949). He had lived in the Lynden district for the past 16 months. He is survived by his wife, Ollie; four sons, Clinton, Melvin, Curtiss and Lawrence Jr.; four daughters, Delsie, Wanda, Bonnie and Rose; three brothers, Francis, Clarence, and Elmo, all of Missouri. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 29 at 2 p.m. (P.S.T.) in the Bethel Temple in Ferndale with the Rev. C. A. Moseid officiating. Interment in Lynden cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral home in Lynden.
MACY, Ulla B., 36, of 2314 Cedar Road, Lake Stevens, died Jan. 26, (1972) at an Everett hospital. Mrs. Macy was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Sweden and had lived in this area since 1967. She attended the Lutheran Church. She leaves her husband, Alfred at the home, three sons, Raymond, Anders, and Charles all at home; a brother, Lars Olin and a half-brother, Anders Olin, both in Sweden and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Olin in Sweden. Services will be announced from the Solie Funeral Home.
