LaPLANT, Okal, 92, of 2392 Douglas Rd., Ferndale, passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, (1987). She was born in Huntington, West Virginia, Sept. 3, 1895. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Retired Police Auxiliary, and she enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Her husband, Elmer C. LaPlant, retired from the Bellingham Police Dept., predeceased her in Dec. 1967. She is survived by her son, Robert E. and his wife Marie Susan LaPlant of Bellingham; daughter, Mary and her husband James Palmer of Ferndale; one sister, Sue Marble of Grandview, WA; three sisters-in-law, Mary and Leona Gilfilen, both of Bellingham and Agnes Gilfilen of Woodburn, OR; five grandchildren, Christine Veale, Randy and Terri Palmer, Jeff and Tina LaPlant; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Nov. 18 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Talley officiating.

Mr. LaPlant was a lifetime resident of this community and was chief engineer for the Larson Mill 42 years before retiring. He was a veteran of W.W.I and also a member of the D.A.V. Surviving are his widow Olive F., 1 son Clayton of Seattle, 1 daughter Miss Frances LaPlant of this city, 2 grandchildren, 1 brother Elmer of this city and a sister Mrs. Alice Deegan of San Francisco, Calif. Services will be conducted by Dr. Glenn C. Carlson and officers of the D.A.V. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
LaPLANT, William M., age 90, 3122 Alderwood Ave., passed away Tuesday, December 21, (1965). A fifty-year resident of this community, Mr. LaPlant was a farmer before retiring. Survivors are his widow, Florence, at home; three sons, Walter, Verdon and Lester; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Whelan, Mrs. Violet Corcoran; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, all of this city; a sister, Mrs. Iodel Carmichael of Vancouver, B.C.; also nieces and nephews. LaPLANTE, Herman Jerome, age 46 years, of Custer Rt. 1, passed away Friday, August 14, (1953) at home, following a lingering illness. He was a resident of that district for the past 10 years and was a member of the Carpenters' Union. Mr. is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Allen of Ferndale, Maxine and Nancy at home; one grandson, Scott Allen; five sisters, Mrs. Mae Earley, Mrs. Loretta Griffin, both of Anacortes, Mrs. Eva Sherman and Mrs. Lucille Hatchett, both of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Rose Wright of Lowell, Wash.; two brothers, John in Missouri and Joe of Bellingham; several nieces and nephews. LaPLANTE, Irene - Bellingham resident Irene LaPlante died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1992, at Shuksan Convalescent Center. She was 88. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Westford Funeral home with the Rev. Harold Minkler officiating. Mrs. LaPlante was born March 29, 1904, in Victoria, B.C., to John and Elizabeth Macmillan. She married Peter LaPlante in 1934 in Tacoma. He preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include sisters Catherine Cook and Marjorie Moritz of Bellingham; brothers Gordon Macmillan, Hugh Macmillan, William Macmillan and Norman Macmillan, all of Bellingham; and grandson Daniel Moore of Monrovia, Calif. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.
LaPLANTE, Joseph I., age 68, of 2320 Dean Ave. passed away in a local hospital Friday, July 13, (1956). Mr. LaPlante had resided in this community for the past 38 years; was a retired farmer and was a member of the Church of Assumption. Surviving relatives are his widow, Effie M. at home; three sons, John A. of Everett, Donald G. and Joseph E. both of Bellingham; three daughters, Mrs. Jess Ramey of Seattle, Mrs. George Meyers of Bellingham and Mrs. Ray Senechel of Skaggs Island Navy Base, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one brother John A. LaPLANTE, Lucienne J., age 65 of 2833 Birchwood Avenue, Bellingham died Sunday, December 19, 1982. She was employed at Needhams Nursing Home and came to this area in 1963. She was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church. Surviving are 2 sons, Rene (Chip) of Bellingham; John of Rhode Island; a daughter, Anita LaPlante of Bellingham; a brother, Victory Joly of New Westminster, B.C.; other brothers & sisters; 2 grandchildren. LaPLANTE, Vernon Howard of Bellingham died Tuesday, April 11, 1995, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was 87. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Born Oct. 18, 1907 to William and Florence LaPlante in Bellingham, he lived most of his life in Whatcom County or on Orcas Island. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. LaPlante worked at Great Northern Railroad. Survivors include daughter Linda LaPlante of Soap Lake, son Garry LaPlante of Bellingham, sister Dorothy Whelan of Bellingham and two grandchildren.

Born Aug. 7, 1905, to William and Florence LaPlante on Orcas Island, he was a lifelong resident of Whatcom County. Survivors include daughters Merna Peterson of Ferndale and Roberta Wiltfong of Loomis, Calif.; sons Phil LaPlante of Milwaukee and Leonard LaPlante of Redmond, Ore.; adopted son Danny LaPlante of Bellingham; sister Dorothy Whelan and brother Vernon LaPlante, both of Bellingham; friend and care-giver Darwin Clark of Ferndale; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. LaPOINTE, Catherine, age 83, who resided in Superior, Wisconsin for the past year passed away in that city on Tuesday, March 21, (1961). Mrs. LaPointe had resided in Clipper from 1922 to 1945 where she owned and operated a store until she moved to Ashland, Wisconsin to make her home. The remains will be received by Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home and will lie in state from Saturday, March 25 until Monday, March 27, when Father John O'Connell, pastor of the Assumption Church, will have graveside services at 11 a.m. in Bay View Cemetery.
LaPOINTE, Joseph Louis, age 79, of 2847 Broadway, passed away at his home Thursday, April 12, (1951) following an extended illness. Mr. LaPointe was a member of the Catholic Church and the Holy Names Society. He had been a resident of the county for the past 28 years and Bellingham the last six. Surviving relatives include his wife, Katherine; two brothers, Harry, of Birchwood, Wis., and William of Portland, Ore.; four sisters, Sister Verdiana, of New York; Mrs. Lucy Yusas, of Seattle, Mrs. Alice Kleimen, of Birchwood, Wis., and Mrs. Mae MacLean, of Oakland, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be said Sunday, April 15, at Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home. Requiem Mass will be said Monday, April 16, at 10 a.m. within the Church of the Assumption. LAPP, Adelbert E., of Sumas, passed away June 2, (1942) following a short illness. He was 85 years old. Mr. Lapp was a retired merchant of Sumas having lived here for the past forty-two years. He leaves to survive his widow, Mary; one son Archie A. Lapp of Sumas; one daughter, Mrs. Clara May MacDonald of Chilliwack, B.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon June 5 at 2 o'clock at the Gillies Mortuary Home in Sumas with Rev. Roy McCulloch of Sumas officiating. Interment will be made in the Sumas Cemetery with the Masons giving their ritualistic services at the graveside.

LAPP, Frances Louise, 81, of 3121 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham, died Sunday, March 19, 1995, at St. Francis Extended Health Care. She was born Sept. 7, 1913 in Mesa, Colo., to Frank and Laura (Hall) Weimer. She married Jesse Lapp in Mesa on Jan. 21, 1931. Mrs. Lapp moved in 1934 to Washington, where she lived most of her life in Sumas or the Everson area. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts for friends and family, cooking, and baking. She is survived by her husband Jesse J. Lapp of Bellingham; three sons, Orville and wife Shirley Lapp of Grapeview, Wash., Don and wife Judy Lapp of Sumas and Ken Lapp of Seattle; daughter Madeline Lapp of Everson; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous other family members. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Hopewell Grange with Pastor John Leaf officiating. Greenacres Funeral Home and Crematorium is handling arrangements.
LAPP, George Samuel, age 77, passed away at the family home 1523 Meridian Road Saturday, Sept. 10, (1949). Mr. Lapp had resided in this community for the past 15 years and was a retired farmer. Deceased was a member of the Church of Bretheran (sic) and leaves to survive, his widow, Emmer J. at home; two sons, Jess of Sumas and Floyd of Palisade, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Elsie McGwin of Bellingham and Mrs. Ruth Harrison of Oroville, Calif.; ten grandchildren; one brother, John of Colorado and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Haskins of Achison, Neb. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Earl W. Roop, of Seattle, Wednesday, September 14, at 3 p.m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.
LAPP, James Watson, 82, of Sumas, died Monday Feb. 5, 2001 at his home. He was born January 6, 1919 to Archibald A. and Josephine E. Watson Lapp in Sumas, Washington where he remembers a wonderful childhood. Inducted into Service on March 27, 1941 at Ft. Lewis (Tacoma), WA, his basic training was at Camp Roberts, Calif. and Santa Ana, Calif. where he attended Cadet Training Pre-Flight School in October 1942. Jim graduated from Navigation School as Second Lt. on May 29, 1943 from Mather Field, Sacramento, Calif. As a crew member on a B-47 in June 1943, he became Combat Ready Crew in August 1943 and was sent overseas (England) in own plane, B-17. From there, Jim went into the 96th Bomb Group - 339th Squadron, and flew four (4) Combat missions, the fourth mission being the one he and crew were shot down. This mission was on October 14, 1943 when orders were given to bomb the ball bearing factories in Schweinfurt, Germany. (And as many know, this battle was so bitterly fought and ended with such devastating losses that it became known as "Black Thursday" and generally acknowledged as the most savagely fought air battle in history.) Jim's crew hit their target and were shot down by Flak-ME109 and crash landed 15 miles south of Ments, Germany. They were captured by civilians and Hitler's Youth and interned in Stalag Luft III for eighteen (18) months. On January 27, 1945, the men were marched out of the camp and ended up in Stalag Luft VII-A, and then liberated by General George Patton on April 29, 1945. Jim was discharged into the Reserve on January 21, 1946 and then recalled on March 18, 1949 in Navigation Instructor School at Mather Field, Calif. As instructor at Ellonton, Texas, he was transferred to MacDill Air Force Base (Tampa), Florida on February 1, 1950 into the 305th Bomb Group with a B-29 plane. Again, Jim went overseas in August 1950 - 1951 to Okinawa, and flew fifty-three (53) missions over Korea. He returned to MacDill AFB on March 1951 and transitioned to B-47's at Bunker Hill, Indiana and Lincoln, Nebraska. Retiring on June 1, 1964 as a Regular Lt. Col. of the United States Air Force, Jim returned to Sumas, WA and built his home. Jim was a member of The 96th Bomb Group - 339th Squadron; The American Ex-Prisoners of War, Inc; Ex-POW Fourth Corner Chapter - Bellingham, WA; Second Schweinfurt Memorial Association (Black Thursday); Stalag Luft III, Germany; U.S.A.A. since 1951; 305th Bombardment Wing at MacDill AFB, FL; The Retired Officers Association; National Association for Uniformed Services; Life Member of the DAV, Chapter 19, Bellingham, WA; The Mighty Eighth AF Heritage Museum, Pooler, GA (Savannah); American Legion Memorial Post #212, Sumas, WA and Commander of the Post in 1966. Preceded in death by his parents, Archibald A. and Josephine E. Watson Lapp, Alice and Jim's infant daughter, Linda Kathleen Lapp, and his second wife, Marian Dickson Lapp. Survivors: wife Mrs. Martha Anne Lapp, Sumas, WA. Al Currier officiating. Mr. Lapp died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at St. Francis Health Care. He was 91. Born April 4, 1905, to George and Emmer Gay Lapp in Leonard, Mo., he lived in Whatcom County since 1933. A dairy farmer, he enjoyed pitching horse shoes and reading. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, in 1995 and by a grandson, Keith Lapp, in 1991. Survivors include daughter Madeline Lapp of Everson, son Donald Lapp of Kendall, Kenneth Lapp of Federal Way and Oroville Lapp of Grapeview, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
LAPP, Josephine E., age 59, of Seattle, passed away in a Seattle hospital, Friday, January 20, (1950) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Lapp had been a resident of Sumas until a year ago. Surviving relatives include her husband Archie Lapp; two daughter, Mrs. M. R. Chapman, of Spokane, and Mrs. C. W. Ahrens, of Seattle; two sons, Jim, of Huston, Texas, and Jay, of Bellingham; three grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. M. E. Watson, of Bellingham; and five brothers, Jim Watson, city, Charles Watson, Everett, Jennings Watson, Alaska, John Watson, Los Angeles, and Ed Watson, of Seattle. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 23, at 2 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas. Interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sumas.

He was employed as a clerk in a local video store. Hobbies were music, making jewelry, and enjoyed visiting with his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his parents Donald and Judith Lapp of Sumas, WA, 3 sisters Susan and Brian Philliber, Everson, WA, Diane Harter, Sumas, WA, Shelley Lapp and finace Jon Brewer, Anchorage, Alaska. LAPP, Richard died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 in Everson. He was 45. A memorial service will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at 511 Mission Road, Everson. Born Jan. 10, 1955 in Bellingham to Orville and Shirley Lapp, he attended Olympia High School in Olympia and graduated from Nooksack Valley High School. He worked for asphalt-paving companies in Olympia and Everson and for Wilder Construction Co in Bellingham and Everett. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Lapp, and son Justin Lapp, both of Everson; daughter Jennifer Lapp of Monroe; his parents of Grapeview; brothers Dan Lapp and David Lapp both of Olympia, and Phil Lapp and Scott Lapp both of Tacoma; sisters Sheryl Lapp of Maui, Hawaii, and Jennifer Cowden and Jaimee Lapp, bothof Olympia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. LAPPENBUSCH, William Louis, PhD, nationally known environmental scientist, passed away at his home in Alexandra, Virginia on April 8, 1990 of brain cancer. Dr. Lappenbusch was president of Lappenbusch Environmental Health, a former Senior Toxicologist of the Environmental Protection Agency, and professor at McNeese State University. He authored several books and was the recipient of the EPA's Gold Medal, in August 1982, for exceptional service and contribution. He also received the Plaque of Radiation "Pioneer of Nuke Watch" in March 1975, for his meritorious work during the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. He attended the University of Washington, Western Washington University, Alberta Medical school, Oregon State University, and the University of New Mexico. Dr. Lappenbusch was raised in Bellingham and married Sunny Overton, daughter of Senator Elbert Overton. He is survived by his wife Sunny, their daughter Susan, their son Will, his parents Professor Emeritus WWU, and Mrs. Charles F. Lappenbusch, Sr., his brother Charles F. Lappenbusch, Jr., cousins Louis Murkowski of Tacoma, U.S. Senator for the State of Alaska Frank Murkowski, and Mrs. Beth Newman of San Jose, California, and nephews Richard William Lappenbusch and Steven Charles Lappenbusch. The funeral will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw, Washington, on Wednesday, April 11, 1990 at 10 a.m., followed by the graveside services, and then lunch at the Parish Hall of Sacred Heart.
LARAIA, Louis E. of 2510 Yew St. died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1994. He was 67. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Born May 12, 1927, to John and Nellie Spinks Laraia in East Hartford, Conn., he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Mary Humphrey on June 12, 1948, in Manchester, Conn. Mr. Laraia and his wife owned and operated the Harbor Cafe in Blaine from 1974 to 1982. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 86 in Blaine and Teamsters Local No. 231. He also was a former member of the Lions Club in Blaine. Survivors include his wife of the family home; son John Laraia of Bellingham; daughters Mary Lou Eshuis of Ferndale and Patty Cisneros of Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska; sister Rose Risley of Manchester, Conn.; brothers William Laraia of East Hartford, Conn., and Francis Laraia of Brandford, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
LARCOM, Darrell L. - A memorial service fro Darrell L. Larcom of Blaine will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Jerns-McKinney Funeral Chapel. Mr. Larcom of 1267 Runge Ave., in Blaine died Monday, Nov. 1, 1993, at his home. He was 79. He was born Nov. 30, 1913, to Jesse and Louis Larcom in Walla Walla. When he was a child, the family moved to Blaine, where he attended Blaine elementary and junior high schools. After moving to California when he was 16 to work for his sister, Mr. Larcom drove heavy road equipment for 16 years before moving his family back to Washington to start a TV repair business in Blaine. In the late 1930s, the state commissioned and his mother to chart clam beds from the Canadian border through Bellingham Bay, a project that took 3 1/2 years. He and his wife Helen, were married Sept. 8, 1937, in Blaine. During World War II, he helped build Blaine High School and lay the first runway at Bellingham International Airport. He spent several years working for Boeing Co. in electronics research, development of SST and 747, and trouble shooting at Boeing's rocket research and testing site in Everett. He worked at Ershig's Plastics until 1981 when he retired at 67 because of prostate cancer. He enjoyed camping, digging clams and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife; sons Lauren D. Larcom of Custer and Leslie G. Larcom of Ferndale; daughter Saundra Holt of Custer; sister Jean Stewart of San Diego; and seven grandchildren.

LARCOM, Mildred B., age 77, a resident of Sedro Woolley died in a Mt. Vernon hospital Wed., July 7, 1982. She was born in Grand Park Township, Minn. Oct. 22, 1904. She resided in Blaine for 15 years & moved to Skagit County in 1950. Most recently her home was in Sedro Woolley. Her husband Ray preceded her in death in 1960. Mrs. Larcom is survived by 1 daughter, Judy Macmillan, Bellingham; a son Ray of Burlington; 2 sisters, Alma Farnum of Custer and Maggie Wilder of Belfair; 7 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. LaREAU, Virginia E. - Private graveside services will be held for Virginia E. LaReau, 86, a former cosmetologist. Mrs. LaReau, 3215 Northwest Ave., died Friday (Aug. 18, 1989) in Bellingham. She was born July 5, 1903, in Vincense, Idaho, and had been a Bellingham resident since 1963. Mrs. LaReau was a member of the Congregational Church, and was a caterer for Fort Fort Sheridan, Ill., 35 miles north of Chicago. Before World War II, she catered for Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower at Fort Lewis. Her husband, Scammon LaReau, died in 1973. A brother and two sisters also died earlier. Survivors include a son, Robert Holland of Bellingham. LARGAUD, Helen Sarah, 54 Route 1, Birch Bay Village, Blaine, passed away at home, Tuesday, May 15th, (1973). Born in Blaine, August 20, 1918, she had spent her entire life in the Blaine area. LARIVIERE, Earl Joseph - A memorial service for Earl Joseph Lariviere will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with the Rev. James D. Stender officiating. Mr. Lariviere of 2015 24th St. died Monday, June 6, 1994, of cancer at his home. He was 67. Born May 18, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, he lived in Whatcom County since 1969. He married Patricia Lunde on April 4, 1977, in Lake Tahoe, Nev. He worked in automobile sales and service and was employed at Henken Auto Sales, Inc. Mr. Lariviere's hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, auto and hydroplane racing and spending time with his grandchildren. He formerly held national records in stock-car racing. Survivors include his wife of the family home; son Timothy Lariviere of Bellingham and Earl C. Lariviere of Sioux City; daughters Denise Lariviere of Ferndale and Diane Kaufman of Sioux City; seven stepchildren; sisters Vinnie Lenafelter and Viola Keuck, both of Sioux city, Dorothy Roby of Schuyler, Neb., and Helen Cutliff of Big River, Calif; seven grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. LARKIN, Edmond Francis, Dr., practicing physician in Bellingham for 50 years until his retirement last year, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday (March 2, 1956) in a local hospital at the age of 82. Born Feb. 2, 1874, in Montgomery County, Ind. he received his early education in that state and went to Wabash Medical College at Crawfordsville, Ind., from where he was graduated in 1896. After serving 20 months internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, he became assistant to Dr. O. S. Reynolds who operated a private hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. He went into private practice in Franklin, Ind. in 1901 for five years before coming to Bellingham. He was married to Miss E. Lucille Bryant at Atchison, Kan. Oct. 15, 1902. They observed their golden wedding anniversary three years ago. For many years they resided at 26_5 Hampton Place, where Dr. Larkin had his office until he sold the family home in 1947, at which time they moved to 1313 Lake Samish where they resided since. Their home on Hampton Place became the Parkhaven Private Hospital. Dr. Larkin became a patient at Parkhaven Jan. 2 and died there. He had been a member many years of both the Whatcom County Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was a member also of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Hillier of Seattle and Mrs. Edna Reed in Oakland, Calif., one granddaughter, Miss Helen L. Brimer of Oakland. The remains rest at Jones' Harlow Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be held at 7:30 p.m.

LaROCKE, Louis, 79, a retired railroad worker, died Thursday (May 11, 1989) in a Bellingham hospital. Mr. LaRocke, 3200 Northwest Ave., was born Jan. 18, 1910, in Trout, Mont. He was a Whatcom County resident for the past 40 years. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Sharon Wolf, of Bellingham. Funeral services were held this morning at Assumption Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jon Madigan officiating. A burial followed in Bayview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Westford Funeral Home.
CHARLES LARRABEE DIES FOLLOWING LENGTHEY ILLNESSDeath Wednesday claimed Charles F. Larrabee, 55, prominent Bellingham business and civic leader, who passed away at 9 a.m. in a San Francisco hospital. Mr. Larrabee went to San Francisco early in June for treatment. He had been out of the hospital a month, but entered it again Tuesday for an operation. He had been in ill health for a little over a year. Death was due to cancer. News of his death was received in a telegram from Mrs. Larrabee to J. Harold Stevenson, vice president of the Larrabee Real Estate and Insurance Company, which Mr. Larrabee headed. Mrs. Larrabee and their son and two daughters, C. X. Larrabee, who resides in San Francisco, Mrs. William M. Sutherland (Jean Larrabee), who lives in Seattle, and Frances Jane Larrabee, who joined her parents in San Francisco last June after her graduation from Smith college, were with him at the time of his death.
With the news of his demise a sense of community loss was felt by the entire city. Son of a pioneer family, with a strong sense of the responsibility of citizenship and community service, Mr. Larrabee held a place of general respect and high esteem. Mr. Larrabee was the son of Charles Xavier Larrabee, whose names are written in Bellingham history. His father in association with Nelson Bennett (founder of the town of Tacoma) started the town of Fairhaven, now a part of the city of Bellingham.
Charles Francis Larrabee was born August 13, 1895, in the old Fairhaven hotel which his parents built. He received his early schooling in the schools of the South Side, and entered Reed college in Portland, Ore., in 1913, from which he was graduated in 1917 with a A.B. degree. In World War I he served as a second Lieutenant in the field artillery, and was stationed at Camp Taylor, in Kentucky. After the war he went to the graduate school of business administration at Harvard university, which he attended in 1923-1925, with banking as his major field of studay and was graduated with an M.B.A. degree in June, 1925. He was married September 24, 1917, to Mary Adele Brownlie, of Portland, Ore., and to them the three children named above were born. His father died in 1914 and his mother, one of Bellingham's most revered women, passed away in 1940. He was one of four children, his brothers, Edward Payne and Benjamin Howard, died a number of years ago. His sister, Mrs. Mary Bourque, of Pasadena, Calif., survives.
He held executive offices in a number of Bellingham business institutions. With banking as a major interest, he was an officer of the American National bank on the South Side, which his father had founded, a stockholder and member of the advisory board of the Bellingham Branch of the Seattle-First National bank, into which the local bank was merged several years ago. He owned and operated the Cascade-Roslyn Coal Company of Roslyn, which his father organized, disposing of that a number of years ago, and operated and was president of the Larrabee Real Estate & Insurance Company which his father founded more than 60 years ago. He was associated for many years with Pacific American Fisheries, Inc., became a director in 1931 and vice president in 1935, both of which offices he held since. With Eric Johnston he was one of the organizers of the Washington State Progress Commission, predecessor of Keep Washington Green, and served one year as chairman of the commission.
His community interests were many. He was president of the Bellingham Community Chest in 1940 and was active in numerous campaigns, heading successfully the advanced gifts division. Among his community interest was the Young Women's Christian Association which was a special project of his mother. He was a charter member of the Albert J. Hamilton post of the American Legion and was the post's second commander. He had been a member of the Bellingham Rotary club since 1921. He was a long time member of Bellingham Elks Lodge No. 194. He held membership in the University clubs of Seattle and Portland, Ore., the Rainier club, the Washington Society, and the Sons of the Revolution. He was a member of St. James Presbyterian church and held various church offices, including that of treasurer....LARRABEE, Consuelo (McMillan) Larrabee, 90, the wife of deceased Bellingham native Edward C. P. Larrabee, has died in Spokane. Mrs. Larrabee was active in civic and educational organizations, A memorial service was held in Spokane, where she lived until her death on Jan. 22, (1990). She was born Feb. 3, 1899, in California, and graduated in 1917 from St. Helen's Hall in Portland, Ore., and from Reed College in Portland in 1921. At one time, she was employed by the University of Oregon, and taught before moving in 1934 to Spokane. Her husband, Edward "Ned" Larrabee, died in December 1944 in a one-car accident near Snoqualmie Pass. Born in Fairhaven before it was incorporated into Bellingham, he was the second son of Charles X. and Frances Payne Larrabee, who built the Fairhaven Hotel, and donated the land that became Fairhaven Park in Bellingham and Larrabee State Park. A flying enthusiast as a boy, Edward Larrabee entered the Royal Canadian Flying Corps in 1917 during World War I. He was wounded and his plane was shot down over Germany in September 1918. He lived out the rest of the war as a prisoner in German hospitals and war camps. He later directed Roslyn Cascade Coal Co. near Cle Elum. A daughter, Antionette Larrabee Crumley, died in 1959. Survivors include a son, Edward Larrabee, of Kingston, N.J.; a daughter, Consuelo F. P. Larrabee Patterson, of Friday Harbor; and five step-grandchildren.
LARRABEE, Edward Payne "Ned" age 47 years, passed away following an auto accident near North Bend, Thursday, December 14, (1944). Mr. Larrabee was born here and for the past ten years has resided in Spokane where he represented the Roslyn Cascade Coal Co. Deceased was a veteran of the first World war, having served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Surviving relatives are the widow, Consuelo McM. Larrabee at Spokane; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Spaulding, New York City, and Consuelo Larrabee, at home and one son, Edward McM. also at home; one brother, Charles F. of this city and a sister, Mary L. Bourgue, Pasadena, Calif. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private services will be conducted by the Rev. James M. Wilson, Saturday, December 16 at 2 p.m. Cremation.

Larrabee, 98, a former resident of Bellingham for many years, will be at 2 p.m. July 18 at St. James Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Larrabee died at a nursing home in Providence, R.I., June 28, (1991). She was born and grew up in Portland, Ore. She married Charles F. Larrabee, the son of Bellingham industrialist and developer Charles X. Larrabee, in 1917 in Bellingham, and lived here until after her husband's death in 1950, when she returned to Portland. She was active in the Bellingham Community Chest and YWCA, and was a founding member of the city's Clothing Depot during the Great Depression. She was a graduate and former trustee of Reed College in Portland, Ore. Survivors include daughters Jean Sutherland of Palo Alto, Calif., and Frances Low of Providence; son Charles X. Larrabee of Durham, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Larrabee's ashes will be interred at the Acacia Memorial Park in Bothell.

LARRABEE, Theron S., 83, of Sedro Woolley died Friday March 19th, (1993). He was born at Prairie, WA, south of Wickersham in 1909, the son of Earl and Lillie Larrabee. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was award attendant at No. State Hospital in Sedro Woolley from 1946 until 1972. He enjoyed hunting and trapping in Whatcom & Skagit Counties. He is survived by three sons, 1 dau., 1 brother, 1 sister and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 24th at 1:00 p.m. at the Lemley Chapel in Sedro Woolley.

LARSSON, Monica Helene - Memorial services for Monica Helene Larsson, 22, 1238 Peace Portal drive, Blaine, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Galen Johnson will officiate. Ms. Larsson died Sunday in Blaine. Ms. Larsson was born July 28, 1963, in Seattle and had lived in Whatcom County for the last 12 years. A graduate of Sehome High school, she attended Whatcom Community College. She was interested in religion and according to her mother, was a kind and loving person who cared about others. Ms. Larsson was a member of the Neighborhood Chapel in Ferndale. Survivors include her mother, Karen of Blaine; her father, Lars of San Diego, Calif.; and two sisters, Sonia and Linnea both of Seattle.
LARUE, James E., age 53, of Blaine passed away in Blaine Sat. March 17, 1979. A retired factory worker, he had formerly made his home in Baltimore, Maryland. Surviving is 1 son, John LaRue of Baltimore, 3 step-sons; Nelson (Jim) Horan of Blaine, Tom & Tim Horan both of Baltimore. A step-daughter Patsy Owens of Baltimore. LARY, Infant boy, age 1 day, of 2720 Utter St., passed away in a local hospital Monday, March 18, (1957). He leaves to survive his parents Mr. and Mrs. Rex Lary, one sister, Kristine, of the home. LARY, Colleen S., age 2 days, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Lary of Rt. No. 3, Ferndale, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday Aug. 12, (1959). Besides her parents, Colleen leaves to survive one sister, Kristine, at the family home; her paternal grandparents, R. W. Lary of Ferndale and Mrs. Nina Lary of Oakland, Calif.; also her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Sobey of Oakland, Calif. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 13 in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home, followed by cremation.
LARZELERE, Paul - A memorial service for Paul Larzelere of Seattle will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command, Pier 36, in Seattle with Chaplain Gordon Scheible officiating. A memorial service will be held in Alexandria, Va., and burial with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Larzelere died in a climbing accident on Mount Baker Saturday, June 21, 1997. He was 35. Born Oct. 16, 1961, to Alexander and Sallie Serafin Larzelere in Honolulu, he graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1983. Mr. Larzelere served in the Coast Guard for 11 years and was director of Tower Engineering Consultants in Seattle. He was a member of the Mountaineers Association and the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1996. Survivors include his father of Alexandria, brothers Alexander Larzelere II of Alexandria and William Larzelere of Miami and grandmother Esther Serafin of Woodstock, Conn. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.
LASH, Mary Eliza Bond, a well-known retired teacher, died today (March 1, 1983) at the age of 90. The oldest of 10 children, she was born Aug. 9, 1892, in St. Louis. She graduated from Whatcom High School in 1911 and was teaching in that building when she retired in 1958. She was recently recognized by Whatcom Educational Credit Union for her contributions to education in Whatcom County. She was featured in a "Someone Special" article in The Herald May 2, 1977. She was a member of Garden Street United Methodist Church, Women's Society of Christian Service, Wesleyan Service Guild, Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Bellingham Senior Activity Center, Council on Aging, WSU Alumni, Founders' Club and American Red Cross. She helped found the state Delta Kappa Gamma society in 1941. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Her husband Fred died Dec 16, 1973. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Garden Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edgar L. Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

A retired custodian at the Bellingham City Hall, Mr. LaShell had resided in this city for the past 19 years. Survivors are his widow, Pearl C., at home; one son, Jack H. LaShell, of Escondido, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Thompson, of Bellingham; 9 grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Don Swerdfeger Monday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.
LASHER, Lawrence Frank, age 89 of Ferndale, died at St. Joseph Hospital on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. in Ten Mile Cemetery with Rev. Paul Jordan officiating. He was born in Minnesota on April 23, 1916 and moved to Whatcom County with his family at a young age. On August 1, 1940 he was married to Anna Klander and for many years was employed as a butcher, retiring from Kratzig Meats where he first started his career. He enjoyed being outdoors by gardening, hunting and fishing and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife in 1999, a grandson Larry Rustand, a brother and a sister. He is survived by his children Louis Parker of Bellingham, Lois (Art) Rustand of Ferndale and Lawrence E. (Sonny) Lasher of Everson; eight grand and eleven great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

He spent 12 years in the U.S. Navy, Military Transportation and submarine Service. He was a member of the Elk's Club in Anacortes. He is survived by three daughters, Mara Lee, Mari Lou and JoAnne; Also one brother, Donald R., Bellingham, two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Davis, Bellingham, and Mrs. Marilyn Hupp, Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be a memorial service given by Rev. Joel Boehr at Unity Church of Truth, 1311 I Street Sunday, Sept. 8th., at 2 p.m.
LASHUA, Ray E., age 86 of 2825 Williams St., passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, (1975). He had been a resident of Bellingham for 75 years and had been manager of the Morse Hardware Glass Dept for 50 years. He was a veteran of WWI and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Millie Lashua; 2 daughters, Mrs. Lucille Davis, City and Mrs. Marilyn Hupp, Navato, Calif. and 1 son, Don of Seattle; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 1:30 p.m. within the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Howard Armstrong of the Unity Church officiating. Interment Greenacres.

Vernon for the past 30 years, was a member of the Immaculate conception Catholic Church of Mt. Vernon, a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She leaves to survive her husband, Alex of the family home; daughter, Miss Shiela Siebet of City; her mother, Mrs. Mary Beeman, City; a brother, Raymond Beeman of Seattle; several other relatives. Rosary will be said Sunday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Westford Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be offered Monday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. from the Church of the sacred Heart. Interment at the Bay View Cemetery.
