HAXTON, Alameda - Private services for Alameda Haxton, age 92, of 702 32nd St. will be Monday Feb. 27 in the Greenacres Mausoleum with Rev. Donel McClellan, pastor First Congregational Church officiating. Cremation & inurnment will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Haxton passed away Thurs. Feb. 23, (1984). She is survived by 1 son, Russell K. & wife Inez VanBuren of Everson; grandchildren, Russell Clayton & Karen VanBuren of City, Dianne VanBuren of Los Angeles, Calif.; 3 great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Kevin & Katie VanBuren of City; 1 sister, Bertha Pooke of White Rock, B.C. HAXTON, Estill Ray - Funeral services for E. R. Haxton, age 99 of 2410 Utter St., will be Wed. Sept. 2, 1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Donel McClellan officiating. Private interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Haxton passed away Sat. Aug. 29, 1981. He is survived by his wife Alameda; stepson Russell K. VanBuren of Everson; step-grandchildren Russell Clayton VanBuren of Bellevue and Dianne VanBuren in Calif; step great- grandchildren Kristopher, Kevin and Katie VanBuren of Bellevue. He was a member of First Congregational Church; 50 year member of Nooksack Valley Lodge No. 105 F & AM; Honorary Past Mast of Pierre B. Cornwall Lodge No. 289 F& AM; member of York Rite Bodies; member of Nile Temple; 50 year member of Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58 OES. He had been a resident of this community since 1909 and served on the Whatcom County Board of Commissioners for 18 years. HAXTON, Grace May, 60, wife of E. R. Haxton, chairman of the Democratic county central committee and supervisor in the Third commissioner district, died at St. Joseph's hospital Saturday (April 3, 1943) after an illness of four weeks. Mrs. Haxton had been a resident of Whatcom county for the past thirty-three years. For fifteen years she was agent for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railway at Glacier and Everson. In the early days of the Mount Baker marathon races the Haxtons operated the Glacier hotel, in 1911 and 1912, and Mrs. Haxton formed a wide circle of friends there. She was much interested also in the growing of flowers and landscaping. In the family's back yard at 1201 1/2 Cottonwood avenue stands an attractive outdoor fireplace which she built with her own hands, surrounded with her flowers and plants. She was a member of the Episcopal church at Mattoon, Illinois, and of Maple Leaf chapter No. 17, Order of Eastern Star. Besides her husband she is survived by her father, George L. Swettenam, a sister, Mrs. Ione M. James, both of Bellingham; three brothers, Harry Swettenam, Hamilton, Wash., Fred Swettenam, of East St. Louis, Ill., and Leo Swettenam, of Vincennes, Ind., and one niece, Jacqueline E. Swanson, of Bellingham. The remains are at the Harlow-Hollingsworth funeral home, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Revs. James M. Wilson and William J. Holland officiating, followed by the services of the Eastern Star. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery. The pallbearers will be Frank Templin, Oliver Huff, Harry Greene, James Chevalier, L. C. Burkhart and Dr. Ralph E. Smith.

HAXTON, Nellie, 94 who has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Charles McInnes, of Pleasant Valley for the past 20 years or more and with a son and daughter in Montana, passed away May 29, (1951) at a Bellingham rest home. Mrs. Haxton had been ill for some time. She was born in Indiana and had lived in Washington for 50 years. Besides Mrs. McInnes she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Guy Mayberry and a son, Charles Haxton, of Floweree, Mont. Ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held May 31 in the Monroe mortuary in Ferndale with the Rev. C. G. Albertson officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

HAY, Baby Boy, 15-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Hay, passed away at a local hospital, Monday, August 28, (1950). Surviving relatives besides the parents include a brother, Bill Jr. and a sister, BetteJo, both at home; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Hay, of Herrod, Ohio; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Grace Peterson, of Bellingham. Private services were held in the Rose Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 29, by the Rev. Carl Calhoun, pastor of the First Congregational Church, Cremation.

HAY, Delphia E., 93, of Bellingham died Thursday (Sept. 6, 1983) in Bellingham. She was born Aug. 8, 1891, in Wisconsin and came to the Bellingham area 64 years ago. Survivors include two daughter, four grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. At her request, there will be no services. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

HAY, Edith A., age 72, of Blaine, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Wilkinson, of Blaine, Sunday, August 6, (1950) following a short illness. Mrs. Hay had been a resident of the Blaine district for the past nine years. Surviving relatives besides Mrs. Wilkinson include another daughter, Mrs. John Johnston, of Saskatchewan, Canada; a son, Roy G. Hay, of Penticton, B.C.; four grandchildren. The remains will be forwarded by the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine to New Westminster, B.C., where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 9, at 3 p.m. (DST), from the S. Bowell and Sons Funeral Parlor.

HAY, Ethel Maud, age 60, of 2822 Elm Street, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, November 11, (1954). Miss Hay had resided in this community for the past 35 years and had attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Surviving relatives include two brothers, P. A. Hay of Bellingham, and Frank Hay of Viroqua, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Huntington of Chaseburg, Wisc., and Mrs. Maud Miles of South Dakota. Numerous nieces and nephews including Mrs. Mona Shaw of Bellingham, and Mrs. Clozette Anderson of Seattle. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Harvey H. Larson, Monday, November 15, at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAY, James G., a Vancouver, B.C. resident, who had spent much of the last few years in the Birch Bay-Blaine areas, died Saturday (June 3, 1984) at 4924 Henley St., Birch Bay. He was 66. He was born Dec. 18, 1917. He is survived by his wife Edna and his son Bob. Arrangements are pending at Jerns McKinney Funeral Chapel.

HAY, Minnie Beard - Private memorial services for Minnie Beard Hay, 93, will be held Tuesday in Bellingham. Cremation will be at Greenacres Memorial Park. Hay died Dec. 17, (1989) at Sehome Care Center, in Bellingham. born July 11, 1896, in England, she lived in Olympia 41 years and moved to Bellingham in July. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and often made mittens, caps, blankets and similar items for needy children and nursing home residents. Her husband, William Hay, preceded her in death. Survivors include numerous relatives. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

HAY, Peter A., age 73, of 2822 Elm St. passed away in a local hospital Saturday, May 7, (1959). Mr. Hay had resided in this community for the past 40 years; was a retired transit operator and was a member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 31, I.O.O.F. Surviving relatives are his widow, Delphia, at home; two daughter, Mrs. Melvin Shaw of Bellingham and Mrs. Marlow Anderson of Seattle; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Huntington of Chaseburg, Wis. and Mrs. Maud Miles of Ethen, S.D. The remains rest at Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Officers of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 1, I.O.O.F., Monday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAY, Sheila Flora (McDonald) of Bellingham, WA, passed away June 13, 2002. She was born March 8, 1921 in Greenwich, England to Donald and Sophia (Spicer) Hay. She attended college in London, England where she received a bronze medal for piano and silver medal for dancing at Royal College of Music, and certificates for art at Royal Drawing Society. Sheila married Frank Brazkiewicz in London in 1948 and came to the U. S. A. in 1960. She taught art at Whatcom Community College, had some experience in radio and television, and helped produce "Spring Revue" at the Mount Baker Theatre. She was a volunteer for many organizations including the Crisis Clinic, Church of the Assumption and the Harvest Festival. She enjoyed painting, poetry, pie making, and using her generosity with her time and skills to work to help others in their lives. Preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and son Pete Hay. She is survived by two sons, Don Hay and wife Cindy of Bellingham, Doug Hay and wife Sandy of Ferndale; daughter Patty Saulsbury of Bellingham; daughter-in-law Mary Hay of Bellingham; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Church of the Assumption Wednesday June 19, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. Westford Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

HAY, William H., age 44, Rt. 1, Blaine, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, March 29, (1964) following an extended illness. A resident of Whatcom County since 1946, he had been employed by Still's Clothing and the National Bank of Commerce at Blaine. He had been associated with the Ramstead Insurance Agency and currently with the Blaine Insurance Agency. He was a member of Kulshan Lodge No. 186 F&AM and the Blaine Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Oma; 3 sons, William Jr., Donald, and Jimmy; 1 daughter, Bette Jo all at home; 2 brothers, Herbert Hay, Bridgeport, Conn., Donald Hay, Tallahassee, Fla.; 4 sisters, Martha Hiett, Delaware, Ohio, Mary Strahn, Waynesfield, Ohio, Betty Searfoss, Herrod, Ohio and Ruth Schrader, Gainesville, Fla.; his father C. HAYDEN, Anna Jane, age 82, of 1380 Northwest Road, passed away Friday, December 8, (1950) following a lingering illness. She was a member of the Broadway United Presbyterian Church and the Sehome Chapter No. 17, Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, James Hayden, one daughter, Mrs. Marion Churney, one son, Walter V., and one granddaughter, Marie Churney, all of Bellingham. Several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hayden was a merchant patrolman for 28 years, was a resident of this city for the past 50 years, was a member of the Broadway United Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44, F. & A.M. Survivors are one son, Walter V., of Seattle; one daughter, Mrs. Marion Churney and one granddaughter, Miss Marie Churney, both of this city; numerous nieces and nephews. HAYDEN, Walter, age 69, a 58 year resident of this community passed away in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Walla Walla Thursday, March 30, (1967). Mr. Hayden was a veteran of both World War I and World War II; was a retired boilermaker and member of the Boiler Makers Union No. 104 of Seattle. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Henry G. Churney of Bellingham and one niece, Miss Marie Churney of Gainesville, Fla. Graveside services will be conducted at Ten Mile Cemetery, Tuesday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.

HAYES, Albert, age 86, formerly of 100 Samish Highway, passed away in a local sanitarium Tuesday, July 7, (1959). Mr. Hayes had resided in Bellingham for the past 37 years; was a veteran of the Spanish-American War; was a past commander and member of the Wiesenberger Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans; was a member of the William Matthews Post No. 1585, V.F.W. Survivors are one son, Leo B. Hayes, of San Francisco; one grandson, Warren T. Hayes, of Ft. Knox, Ky.; twwo granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. Laura Ramage and one brother, Bud Hayes, both of Woodburn, Ore.; cousin, Miss Ruth Mulkey and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ida Thompson, both of Bellingham. HAYES, Anita, age 39, formerly of 1205 Starry Rd., passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, (1964). Mrs. Hayes had been a life resident of this community and leaves to survive two daughters, Mrs. Robert D. HAYES, Betty L., age 45, of 315 Virginia St., Bellingham passed away, Friday December 1, 1989. She was born March 18, 1944 in Bellingham and had been a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. Mrs. Hayes was formerly employed by Port of Bellingham and was a member of the group "I Can Cope." HAYES, Cora L. - Funeral services for Mrs. Cora L. Hayes, 62, 1110 E. North St., will be conducted by the Rev. Hartley Christensen at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. A resident of this community most of her life, Mrs. Hayes died Saturday (Nov. 24, 1973). HAYES, Daniel E., age 44 years, Lynden, Wash., passed away at a local hospital, Friday, July 2, (1948) the result of a logging accident. Mr. Hayes had been a resident of Whatcom county his entire life. He was employed by the Anderson Logging Co. He leaves to survive, his widow, Mrs. Irene Hayes; six sons and three daughters, Daniel, Harold, Gordon, Robert, Kenneth, James, Ellen, Joyce and Marilyn; his mother, Mrs. Catherine M. Hayes, of Bellingham; six brothers, Ted, of Bellingham, John, of Acme, Earl, Charles, Harold and George, all of Bellingham; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Cupples and Mrs. Patricia Loveall, both of Bellingham, and Mrs. Ruth Cook, at Fairbanks, Alaska; also numerous other relatives. HAYES, Donald B., age 66 of 2420 Eldridge, passed away September 17, 1983 in a local hospital. He had retired from Mobil Oil Company and was a member of Assumption Church. He's a World War II Navy Veteran. He i survived by his wife, Irene; 4 sons, Don of city, Gary of Phoenix, Robert of city, Dennis of Seattle; 2 daughters, Gail Schenck of Seattle, Mary Ann Hayes of Seattle; 1 brother, Clark Hayes of L.A., CA; 1 sister, Elouise Skeps of Dryden, New York. Rosary will be said Mon. Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered Tues. HAYES, Donald Earl, age 22, who resided at 1128 19th St., passed away suddenly on Monday, March 5, (1956). Mr. Hayes had lived here and in this vicinity his entire lifetime. He was a Korean Veteran, a member of the International Woodworkers of America and a member of the A.F. of L. Cannery Workers No. 183. He leaves to survive his wife, Mrs. Karen Ann Hayes; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl M. Hayes of Ferndale; two brothers, Wilfred L. Hayes of Bellingham and Elroy of Ferndale; his grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Hayes of Bellingham and numerous other relatives. Rev. HAYES, Effie Ceicel, 71, of 100 Samish Highway, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Feb. 24, (1957). Mrs. Hayes had resided in this community for the past 39 years, was past president of the Spanish-American Veterans Auxiliary, and of the Women's Auxiliary of the William Matthews Post 1585, V.F.W. Surviving relatives include her husband, Albert T. Hayes, at home; two sons, Burdett and Allen Dickinson of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Sadie Bowen of Bellingham, Mrs. Gertrude Gay of Cottage Grove, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Petersen of Oroville, Calif. The remains rest at the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Clarence J. Forsberg, Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. Cremation.

HAYES, Frank R., of 1636 Iron St., passed away at home Tuesday, Dec. 9, (1958). Mr. Hayes had resided in this community for many years; was a deputy county assessor of Whatcom County; was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, F. &A.M. Also a member of the Nile Temple of the Shrine. Survivors are two sons, Edward of Detroit, Mich., and Charles in the U.S. Navy; six grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Arthur Bezanson and officers of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M. Monday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAYES, George Palmer of Bellingham died Monday, April 29, 1996, at Shuksan Convalescent Center. He was 76. At his request, no service will be held. His ashes will be place in Greenacres Memorial Park. Born Nov. 12, 1919, to Daniel and Katherine Nolan Hayes, he was a lifelong resident of Bellingham. He retired from Alaska Packers in 1982. Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include sons George Hayes of Bellingham, Archie Hayes of Ferndale and David Hayes of Custer, brother Earl Hayes of Ferndale, sister Ruth Cook of Seattle, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

HAYES, Gordon G. - A memorial service for Gordon G. Hayes of Bellingham will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2935 Birchwood Ave., Bellingham. Mr. Hayes died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000. He was 70. Born Sept. 15, 1930, to Daniel E. and Irene M. (Shaw) Hayes in Bellingham, he was a lifetime Whatcom County resident. Mr. Hayes worked for Whatcom Farmers Co-op for 32 years. He loved playing and watching sports and hiking with friends and family. Survivors include his wife Elinor of the home; sons Timothy, Paul and Joseph Hayes, daughter Teresa McGary, and their spouses 14 grandchildren, five brothers, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home.

HAYES, Gordon Powell, age 70, of 303 Morey, passed away Thursday March 8th, (1990) in Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Gordon had worked for J.C. Penny Co. from 1938-1945, Wilder Construction Co. 1949-1973, B'ham 1st Federal Savings & Loan 1973-1975, Bank of Wa. 1975-1977, B'ham Frozen Foods 1977-1979. Also Association for the Development for Computer Based Instructional Systems(ADCIS) 1980-1990. Gordon was very active in community affairs. Some of the organizations that he worked with were: State Research Council, B'ham Rotary Club, Whatcom County Physicians Service, Whatcom County Development Council, Association for Wa. Business (AWB). Gordon was also a member of Wa. Athletic Club, B'ham Elks Club, B'ham Yacht Club, B'ham Golf & Country Club.
He leaves to survive his wife Joan; 2 sons Gordon Jr. of Anchorage, Ak., Craig of B'ham; 2 step-sons, Baird Straughan of Bolivia, & Ben Straughan of Washington, D.C.; step-daughter Jennifer Straughan of Portland, Or.; 8 grandchildren; a brother Edgerton Hayes, Seattle; 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Edythe Marsky of Tacoma, & Mrs. Richard Mossman of Gig Harbor. HAYES, Helen G., age 51, formerly of 804 Irving St., passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Oct. 16, (1956). Mrs. Hayes had resided in this community for the past 12 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of Sehome Chapter No. 17, O.E.S. Surviving relatives are her husband, Frank R. of this city; three sons, Arthur J. Donnelly of Detroit, Mich., Edward F. Hayes also of Detroit, and Charles E. Hayes with the U.S.N. stationed at Whidbey Island; mother, Mrs. Harriett Wilson in Detroit and six grandchildren. HAYES, Irene M., 94, of Bellingham, died Friday, July 8, 1994, at Bellingham Health Care and Rehabilitative Services. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bellingham North Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Jim Pike officiating. Inurnment will be at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Hayes was born July 21, 1899 to Sarah and Richard Shaw at Deer Harbor on Orcas Island. She graduated from Fairhaven High School and Bellingham Normal School Teachers College. She married Daniel P. Hayes in 1925 in Bellingham. The school on Shaw Island where she taught all eight grades is registered as a National Historical Monument. A small school at the sound end of Lake Whatcom where she taught is also still standing. Besides teaching and working as a homemaker, Mrs. Hayes also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and cooking. Her husband preceded her in death in 1948.

HAYES, James Phillip, age 88 of 3608 19th St., passed away in a local nursing home Sept. 1, 1989. He had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 82 yrs. He had worked for the forestry services for 10 yrs, plus logging on Shaw Is. and in Oregon for many yrs. He worked for the Dept. of Natural Resources in WA State and also the State Parks Dept. in Larrabee State Park for 8 yrs. prior to retirement. He leaves to survive his wife Garnette O. HAYES, Kelly Nelson, age 28, formerly of Bellingham and currently living in Long Beach, CA, passed away Sun., Feb. 9, 1997, in Long Beach, CA due to a car accident. He was born May 21, 1968, in Bellingham to Nelson and Kathleen (Sorenson) Hayes and was a Whatcom County resident until 1985. He attended Carl Cozier Elementary School, Whatcom Middle School, Bellingham High School, and Sehome High School. He moved to Long Beach, CA where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Mr. Hayes worked for Prietive Group delivering automobiles throughout the United States. His hobbies included gold, bodybuilding, bowling, and loved parakeets. Survived by his father Pete Hayes of Bellingham; mother, Kathleen Hayes of Bellingham; 3 sisters, Cari Jones of Bellingham, Christie Ivie & husband Ken of Long Beach, CA, and Carla Millman & husband Joe of Custer; grandparents: Earl & Elsie Hayes of Ferndale, Marge & August Burr and Inez & Jim Berg all of Bellingham; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. HAYES, Leland Douglas, 84, of Burlington, died Saturday, October 27, 1990 at United General Hospital. He was born June 18, 1906 in Burlington, a son of Walter Hayes and Louise Lomsdalon Hayes. His marriage to Mattie Marlow took place March 24, 1927 in Mount Vernon. Mrs. Hayes died in 1974. He was a retired truck driver and had formerly been employed by Pacific Fruit and Produce, and Hub Transfer of Burlington. He had also been employed by McKay Furniture and Vandeman Furniture Company, both of Burlington. He was a longtime member of Skagit valley Aerie 3242, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Burlington. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Eva and Frank Smith of Burlington, Dovie Blouin of Bow; six grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Nancy Burns of Mount Vernon, Linda and Frank Pingo of Oregon, Timothy and Sue Burns of Burlington, Patrick and Charlotte Burns of Bay View, Janice Smith of Bellingham, and Eileen Smith Moreland and Dave Moreland of Burlington; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Esary and Evelyn Church, both of Burlington; one brother, Ralph Hayes of Burlington; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. HAYES, Leo Bernard, 49, of 304 2nd Ave., Seattle, passed away at a Seattle hospital Tuesday, April 12, (1960). Mr. Hayes was a veteran of World War II; formerly resided in Bellingham for many years; was employed by the St. Vincent DePaul; was formerly a member of the Church of Assumption. HAYES, Mary A., age 91 years, of 2517 Victor Street, passed away suddenly at the family home Friday, March 20, (1953). Mrs. Hayes had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 48 years. She is survived by two sons, J. E. McLouth, of this city, and James P. HAYES, Nelson Elroy "Pete" Hayes, age 62 of Bellingham, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2002 at his home in Bellingham. He was born July 23, 1940 in Bellingham to Earl Hayes and Marjorie Burr and was a Whatcom County resident since birth. He attended Custer Elementary School and graduated from Ferndale High School. Pete retired in 2001 after 40 years of service from Cascade Natural Gas. His hobbies included bowling, hunting, golfing and volunteering his time as a junior bowling coach at Park Bowl. Pete was, recently inducted into the Whatcom County Bowling Hall of Fame. Pete is preceded in death by his father, Earl Hayes of Bellingham; brother, Donald Hayes, and son, Kelly Hayes. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Burr of Bellingham; stepmother, Elsie Hayes of Ferndale, three daughters, Cari Jones and Mike Florence of Bellingham, Christie Ivie and husband Ken of Long Beach, California, and Carla Millman and husband, Joe of Custer; brother, Willie Hayes and wife Doris of Bellingham; stepbrother, Gary Berg and wife Linda of Ferndale; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson, Noreen Cooper and Lori Adderley all of Bellingham; granddaughter, Nicole Jones and great grandson, Dylan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. A family and friends memorial service and burial will be held at Greenacres memorial Park on Friday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. HAYES, Ralph E., age 72 of 1111 40th St., Bellingham, WA, passed away Jan. 4, 1993 at his home. He was born January 24, 1920 in Everett, WA to Arthur P. and Mary E. Hayes. Ralph has worked at Everett Pad and Paper Co. before his retirement. Ralph was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2100, Everett, WA; Everett Eagles Lodge Arie #13; Everett Sons of Norway Lodge 2-003; and Everett Elks B.P.O.E. 479. Survivors are his sister Delores Harrington of Bellevue, WA; three brothers, Richard Hayes of Bellingham and Raymond A. Hayes and Rodger B. Hayes both of Everett; numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited 9:30 a.m. followed with a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Sat., Jan. 9, 1993 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2509 Hoyt ave, Everett, WA followed with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Everett, WA. HAYES, Reta Beaulah, 77, of 1614 Alabama St., Bellingham, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 1993. She was born May 2, 1915, in Little Rock, Ark. to Frank and Lena Handy and had been a local resident for the past 62 years. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, and two daughters, Delores Benson and Betty Hayes. She is survived by five sons, Ted of Deming, Edward and wife Judy of Bellingham, Fred of Bellingham, bill of Bellingham and Roger and wife Lynn of Bellingham; five daughters; Dorene Hanson and husband Chuck of Estacada, Ore., Linda Brown and husband Leonard of Ferndale and Donna Titus of Bellingham; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held Monday, at Greenacres Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Al Currier officiating. Arrangements were made by Greenacres Funeral Home.

HAYES, Rose P., age 66, passed away at the family home, 1725 Humboldt Street, Saturday, June 12, (1948). Mrs. Hayes had resided in this community for the past thirty-one years and was a member of the Weisenburger Major Camp Auxiliary, United Spanish War Veterans. HAYES, Shaun Phillip, age 15 short years, born Saturday, the 11th of April 1987, lost his life in an accident on Saturday, the 25th of May 2002. He enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his quad, listening to music videos, video games, surfing and chatting with friends on the Net, and being with friends, all of who miss him terribly. He liked to play practical jokes and enjoyed teasing people. His brother Jesse, sister Misty, father Joe Hayes, mother Karen Hayes, and numerous other relatives survive him. HAYES, Theodore R. of 6173 Venus Place, Ferndale, passed away at home with his family nearby on May 24, 2006 at the age of 73. He was born to Theodore and Reta Hayes in Sumas. He served in the army. He was in Korea and Japan. He worked for Oeser Cedar Co. for 20 years, treating light poles and telephone poles. He loved to go fishing and hunting. Also, he enjoyed bowling tournaments and any bowling event. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hayes and Delores Benson, and his parents, Ted and Reta Hayes. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hayes, sons Robert Daniel (Dan) and Jason and wife Dahrys Hayes; 3 grandchildren, Kody, Colin and Al Hayes; brothers Edward and wife Judy Hayes, Fred, Robert and wife Lyn Hayes, William (Bill); sisters Doreen Hanson, Linda Brown, and Donna Titus; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He had two very special friends, James Lewis Mezo and Donald J. Wolfe. Services will be at Triumph Lutheran Church, Ferndale, on June 10 at 11 a.m.

HAYES, Vera Fay - Born April 30, 1904 in Fairhaven, Washington. Attended Whatcom High School and Bellingham Normal School before attending Washington State University where she was a member of Alpha XI Delta. She taught in the Auburn and Marysville School District before her marriage to LeRoy E. Hayes in 1929 in Bellingham. Worked for Community Chest which is now United Good Neighbor Agency and became executive secretary. Worked for two years at Department of Social and Health Services before retirement. Very active in Garden Street United Methodist Church as Sunday School teacher and as a member and teacher of White Triangle class. Also active in United Methodist Women. Preceded in death by her husband LeRoy E. Hayes in 1989. Survived by sister, Louise Jenkins of Bellingham and four children: 1. Bonnie Kearns and husband Bill of Anacortes; 2. Beth Wolf and husband Dean of Kirkland; 3. Bruce Hayes and wife Pat of Maple Falls; 4. Carol Dameron and husband Merle of Des Moines; there are 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. HAYES, Virginia - Visitation for Virginia "Freddy" Hayes of Marysville will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenacres Funeral Home. Mrs. Hayes died at home Thursday, April 3, 1997. She was 80. Born July 14, 1916, in Minot, N.D., to George Benjamin and Blanche E. Hodge, she lived in Whatcom County until she moved to Snohomish County three years ago. A licensed practical nurse, she worked at Providence Hospital in Everett. Mrs. Hayes taught dance and enjoyed horses. During the 1950s, she was a member of The Leatherettes, a Bellingham Equestrian club. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald F. Rhoades, and her sister, Shirley P. Klein. Survivors include sons Michael R. Hayes of Voorhees, N.J., and Patrick R. Hayes of Marysville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

HAYES, William, 54, of 216 E. Holly St., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, February 13, (1960). Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Molly Hayes, of Urbana, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Clair Federer, of Rantout, Ill., Miss Helen Hayes, of Champagne, Ill., and Mrs. Nolan Wilburn, of Urbana, Ill. The remains were forwarded to Urbana, Ill., for services and burial by the Jones Funeral Home.

HAYES, Wilma Edith, 73, of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 2, 1991, at United General Hospital, Sedro Woolley, WA. Born November 9, 1917 in Belfast, Washington (Skagit County}, she moved to Bellingham in 1944. She worked at Fisherman's Cove Restaurant as a cook for many years. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in the mid 1960's; she worked at St. Lukes Hospital in Bellingham, until moving to Skagit County in 1964. She worked at the Corner Tavern until the time of her illness. Wilma was an avid fisherwoman and hunter. She was a member of the Bellingham Sportsman Club and The Wheel and Keel Club. She is survived by her husband, Ralph at home; 1 son, Gene Shadle of Anchorage, AK; 1 daughter, Myrna Morehead of Blanchard, WA; 5 grandsons, Danny and Kevin Shadle of Anchorage, AK, Ronny Shadle of Phoenix, AR (sic), Jeff Hofeditz and Al Obermueller of Bellingham, Matt Obermuller of Kent; 1 granddaughter, Carol Jean Black of Anchorage, AK; 2 sisters-in-law, Evelyn Church and Lucille Esary of Burlington; 2 uncles, G. C. Ruthford and Harold Ruthford and 1 aunt Olie Cushen, of Skagit County and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by 1 grandson, John Hofeditz, June 1990, and her son-in-law, William (Bill) L. HAYGOOD, John A., Rev., 42, who was a former pastor of the United Church of Ferndale and a recent resident of Tacoma, died Friday, December 29, (1972). While living in Ferndale, he was a member of the Ferndale Lions. He served as chairman of the Whatcom County Housing Commission and was president of the Bellingham Council of Churches. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves and held the rank of major. Surviving him are his widow, Billie; a daughter, Shawn and two sons, James and David. Memorial services were held for him at the United Church of Ferndale.

HAYNES, Bruce S., age 87 of 2015 B Street, passed away suddenly in a local hospital Wednesday, May 8, (1963). Mr. Haynes had resided in Bellingham for the past 63 years and was a retired mill worker. He leaves to survive his wife Lucy M., at home, two daughters Mrs. Mildred Tretwold of this city and Mrs. Alfred Hazlett of Merit, B.C., Canada. Three grandchildren. HAYNES, Charles, age 69 of 427 South 316th Place, Federal Way, passed away in Seattle on Monday, Aug. 1, (1977). A former Sumas area resident, Mr. Haynes was a veteran of WWII and retired from the U.S. Navy in 1950 and 20 years of service. He had also been employed for more than 20 years by the Boeing Aircraft Co. prior to his retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Brown of Seattle; a sister, Mrs. Helen Birch of West Palm Beach, Florida; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Sat., Aug. 6 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sumas Cemetery.

HAYNES, Clarence F., 90, 2304 Utter St., died Wednesday, (Jan. 21, 1987) at a Bellingham nursing home. He was born July 24, 1896, in Pittsburg, Kan., and was a Whatcom County resident for many years. Mr. Haynes was a retired crane operator and was a member of the North Bellingham Full Gospel Fellowship. Survivors include his wife, Clarice, of the family home; three step-daughters, Marilyn Mastor, Susan Sandell and Charlotte Kvistad, all of Bellingham; a stepson, Bary Benedict of Alaska; three brothers, John Haynes of Kansas, George Haynes of Spanaway, Wash., and Ben Haynes of Seattle; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. HAYNES, Clarice A., 82, of 2304 Utter Street, Bellingham, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 23, 1992) in a Bellingham hospital. She was born March 17, 1910 in Mount Vernon, WA to Clarence D. and Mary E. Fisher. She was a resident of Whatcom Co. for over 70 years and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School and was a charter member of St. Anne's Guild. She was active P.T.A. having served as president. Mrs. Haynes worked for many years as a medical secretary for Dr. Neil Adams and Dr. Warren Bergholz. Survivors: 2 daughters; Marilyn Mastor, Susan and husband Dean Sandell, all of Bellingham; 3 sisters: Lucille Sevier, Grace Woodruff and Lila McQueen; 2 brothers: David Fisher and Charles Fisher; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 27, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Father John Gibbs officiating.

HAYNES, John W., 78, who lived at 6th and D streets, Blaine, died Monday (Oct. 12, 1981). He was born Nov. 8, 1902, in Seattle. He was a post office employee from 1931 to 1958, when he retired. He was a past member of Eagles Lodge and the Naval Reserve. He is survived by his wife Mary, whom he married in 1937. Private family services were held under the direction of Jerns McKinney Funeral Home.

HAYNIE, James Lawrence, born in Bellingham on June 4, 1905, died December 27, 1997 in Seattle at Foss Home. Son of James B. J. Haynie and Lily M. Haynie. Preceding him in death were his wife Eleanor Haynie, daughter Loraine Haynie Molleston, sisters Mable Ewing, Elizabeth DePastel, Marie Bakke. He is survived by his son Rich Haynie, niece Betty Ewing, grandchildren Robert Molleston, Rhetta Ann Fisk, Kealan Haynie, Morgan Haynie and great granddaughter Alexandra Molleston. Larry Haynie opened H & H Sporting Goods in 1944 and ran it with his best friend and business partner, Art Huggins for 28 years. He will be remembered for his love of the hunting & fishing and great sense of humor. Larry had over come cancer in the 1970's. HAYNIE, Lilly M., age 83, of 1111 East North Street, passed away at a local hospital Friday, February 8, (1952) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Haynie had been a resident of this community for the past 54 years and was a life member of the First Free Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Lawrence; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth DePastel and Mrs. Mable Ewing, all of the city; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Mamie Woodard in Indiana. HAYS, Asahel Warner peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 6, 1990 at 96 years of age. He was a logger most of his life and worked also as a carpenter. Born Jan. 24, 1920 in Kent to Ernest and Ellan Hays, Mr. Hays served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as an accountant and supervisor for Puget Sound Power & Light Co for 40 years. A resident of Whatcom County for 31 years, he was a member of Goshen Grange. He enjoyed woodcarving, gardening, fishing and hunting. HAYS, Flota, age 50, of Wickersham, passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, March 27, (1947). Mrs. Hayes had been a resident of this community for the past forty-one years and was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church. Surviving relatives are the husband, Asahel, at home; four sons, Charles, of Oakland, Calif., Finley, Orville and George, all of Wickersham; one daughter, Ida Mae Hays, of Bellingham; three grandchildren; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Ambrose, of Wickersham; three brothers, Urban Ambrose, of Wickersham, Egbert, of Oakland, Calif., and Warren, of Everett, and two sisters, Mrs. Orpha Bever and Miss Lucy Ambrose, both of Wickersham. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Roy L. Smith, Saturday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m. Committal will be made by the Rev. L. E. HAYS, James W. - Funeral services for long-time Whatcom County resident J. W. "Bill" Hays, 93, will be at 1 p.m., Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert W. Olmsted officiating. A private burial will be at Bayview Cemetery. Mr. Hays, of 700 32nd St., died Saturday, (Sept. 8, 1990). He was born Dec. 27, 1896 in Neodesha, Kan. In 1907, he moved to Whatcom County. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hays was a member of the Machinist Union Local #239 and was a former machinist at Clift Motor Company. In 1925, his teaching career began at Fairhaven High School. He taught at Bellingham High School beginning in 1936 after a fire destroyed Fairhaven High. He also taught at Bellingham Vo-Tech Institute. Mr. Hays retired from teaching in 1962 but kept active in his home workshop. For many years he donated much of his summer garden crop to the Light House Mission, the Salvation Army and the Bellingham Food Bank. He was a World War I-era veteran, serving in the Washington National Guard from 1917 until 1920. He was the last survivor of Third Company E, later 161st Infantry, which was formed in Whatcom County as a home guard to defend the area after the departure of Regular Army and National Guard troops. He was scheduled to depart for France when the war ended. He was preceded in death by his wife Susan, in 1988, and his son Dr. James W. Hays, in 1967. Survivors include his son Robin W. Hays of Bellingham, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

HAYS, Paul Madison, age 66, 1407 E. Sunset Drive, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, April 25, (1963). Mr. Hays was the head mechanic for the Groves Brothers Construction Co. for nine years during the construction of roads in Yellowstone National Park; was a forty year resident of this community, where he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder by the Whatcom County Road Shop at Strandell for the past four years; was a member of Jerusalem Lodge 115, A.F.&A.M., Winnett, Montana, and a veteran of World Wars I and II. Survivors are one brother, Harve Hays, Greenfield, Ind., one sister, Mrs. Mae Chappell, Greenfield, Ind.; one half brother, John R. Hays, Oxford, Ind., and two half sisters, Mrs. Clarence Keiser and Mrs. Winnie McClain, both of Columbia City, Ind. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. Ritchie Ocheltree Monday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m., after which time they will be forwarded to Winnett, Montana for burial.

HAYS, Susan Ireland - Memorial services for Susan Ireland Hays, 95, a local violin teacher, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenacres Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Hays, of 700 32nd St., was born Jan. 16, 1893, in Wilmot, N.D. She moved to Bellingham at the age of 10 and lived out her life in Whatcom County. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bellingham Women's Music Club and Altrusa Club of Bellingham. Survivors include her husband, James W. "Bill" Hays of Bellingham; a stepson, Robin W. Hays, of Bellingham; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

HAYWARD, Catherine - A memorial service for Suzuki cello teacher Catherine Alta Lange Hayward, 42, will be held at 3 p.m., Sept. 13, at Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship. Ms. Hayward, 1003 Key St., died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 30, 1992, in her home. Her memorial service will include music performed by some of her students and colleagues, as well as a Quaker memorial service. A Bellingham resident since 1984, she was born March 23, 1950, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Robert and Naomi Wolfson Lange. As a child, she lived in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. She graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyo., in 1968. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from St. Olaf's College in Northfield, Minn., in 1971. She earned a second bachelor's degree in voice at the University of Iowa in 1975. During her stay in Iowa, she taught at Scattergood Friends School, a Quaker boarding school. She then moved to Minneapolis where she lived for several years before moving to the Seattle area. A member of Eastside Friends (Quaker) Meeting, Ms. Hayward has been active with Bellingham Friends Worship group since she moved to Bellingham. A teacher of the Suzuki method of cello, she was a member of the Bayside String Quartet, Whatcom Symphony Orchestra and Suzuki Association of America. Last Thursday, she received an honorary master of social work degree from the University of Washington. Ms. Hayward began working on the degree last year, after her second recurrence of cancer. She hoped to work as a counselor to terminally ill patients and their families. A talented cellist, she also played classical and folk music on piano and violin. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, baking, reading and walking outdoors. Survivors include her father, Robert B. Lange of Casper, Wyo., and sisters Barbara Rose Lange of Seattle and Rebecca Lange Hein of Casper.

HAYWARD, Fred H., age 82. A Sedro Woolley resident for the past 10 years died at the local hospital, Sat. Aug. 4, 1979. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Wa., Sept. 23, 1896. He was raised in Mt. Vernon & attended school there and was a former long time Whatcom Co. resident. He was a veteran of WWI service in the United State Marine Corps & was a member of the Port Townsend American Legion Post. He was a retired logger. He is survived by his wife, Vernice, 4 daughters, Florence McLean, Custer. Vivian Smallwood, Sedro Woolley. Beverly Tietjen, Reno. Karen Martucci, Youngstown, Ohio. 4 sons, Gerald, Silverdale, Kenneth, Sedro Woolley, Richard, Tacoma, Gary, Port Angeles. 24 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. HAYWARD, John F. "Jack", 56, a former Bellingham resident, died Saturday (Nov. 15, 1980) in a Seattle hospital following a long illness. Born in Detroit, Mich., he had lived and worked in several areas, including Indiana, Canada, on Vancouver Island and Bellingham. Before entering college, he had been a fisherman, a logger and a construction worker. He received a B.A. in education from Western Washington University in 1948, and an M.A. in counseling and guidance from Columbia University. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in Washington and Alaska. He won recognition in Who's Who for his work in developing the marine "Sea-Ed" program, a high school curriculum involving navigation, boat maintenance, fisher and marine employment opportunities. He was living on Lopez Island at the time of his death. He was a member of Lopez Island Golf Club, Lions Club, and San Juan Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife, Fern, two daughters, a brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday, with interment in Lopez Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Evans-Engdahl Funeral Home, Anacortes.

HAYWARD, Kittie M., age 97 of 2315 Williams St. passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 6, (1963). HAYWARD, Mary Ellen, age 83 of Rt. 1, Custer passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, (1959) in a local hospital following an extended illness. She had been a resident of Whatcom and Skagit Counties for the past 81 years and was a member of the Seventh Day Advent Church, W.C.T.U., and the old Settlers Assn. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Minnie Graham of Bellingham, 1 son, Fred H. Hayward, Gardner, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 1 uncle, Fred Slosson of Mt. Vernon, also numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted at the Moles Monroe Funeral Home Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. with Elder E. E. Wellman officiating. HAYWARD, Vernice I., a Sedro-Woolley resident for the past 13 years died Sunday, December 4, 1983 at United General Hospital. She was 72 years of age. She was born near Lubbock, Texas, October 19, 1911, the daughter of Irven and Minnie Meyer. She moved to the Yakima area with her family at the age of five. She was united in marriage to Fred Hayward in Yakima on November 1, 1933, and they moved to Whatcom County for a period of time and then moved to Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula and settling in Skagit County in 1980. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Port Townsend, and an avid Bingo player when her health permitted. She is survived by three daughters, Vivian Smallwood of Sedro-Woolley, Karen Martucci of Youngstown, Ohio, Beverly Tietjen of Reno, Nevada; a step-daughter Florence McLean of Custer, Washington; four sons, Gerald Hayward of Silverdale, WA, Ken Hayward of Sedro-Woolley, Richard Hayward of Tacoma, Gary Hayward of Bow; two sisters, Alma Mathis of Wenatchee, Thelma Paterson of Yakima; two brothers, Eugene Meyer of Puyallup, and Cliff Meyer of Belmont, California. HAYWOOD, Dorothy P., age 86, of Bellingham passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. She was born January 15, 1920 in Seattle, Washington to her parents Arthur L. and Reba D. (Foster) Bailey and was raised in Whatcom County. Dorothy was a member of Black Mountain Ranch of Deming, Bellingham Aerie #31, F.O.E., where she was a member of the Lady Eagles Drill Team and the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved playing cards especially with her grand kids, crocheting, gardening and dancing. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Haywood in 1985. Dorothy is survived by three daughters Roberta Pace and her husband Paul of Bellingham, Una Benson of Deming, Gayle Pinkey and her husband Bill of Deming; two sons Arthur R. Zollatz of Largo, Florida, Richard E. Zollatz and his wife Kathleen of Maple Falls; two sisters Marjorie Davis and her husband Orland of Hawaii, Carol Potter of Bellingham; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Hazel, age 73, who died Sunday, Jan. 27, (1980) will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral home with Rev. David Loper officiating. burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Hazel, who had resided at 1520 East Badger Road, Lynden, was born in Kentland, Indiana and moved to the Lynden area from Spokane in 1954. A retired sales manager, he had been employed by Peter Pan Seafoods from 1966 until his retirement in 1968. Before then he had been employed by Pacific American Fisheries from 1954 to 1966 and Sunshine Biscuit Company in Spokane from 1946 to 1954. A member of the Everson Presbyterian Church, Mr. Hazel served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged with the rank of Captain. He was also a member of the Bellingham Elks Lodge No. 194 and the Bellingham Chapter of the United Commercial Travelers of America of which he was member for thirty-three years. He was married to Lois Frazier in Bellingham on Jan. 23, 1960. He is survived by his wife Lois, a brother, Ernest Hazel of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Stombaugh of Goodland, Indiana, Mrs. Gladys Smith of Freeland, Washington and Mrs. Ann Brewer of Sun City, Arizona. Also his father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Frazier of Lynden and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

HAZEL, Nelson age 25 of Birdsview, Skagit County passed away Mon. June 1, 1987 in Burlington as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Dec. 3, 1961 in Seattle. He was a 1980 graduate of Concrete High School & a 1986 graduate of Skagit Valley College. He had been employed as a cook by Denny's Restaurant in Mt. Vernon; was an avid basketball player in high school, community college & in local industrial leagues. Surviving are his parents, Linda & Percy Hazel of home; 2 brothers & 1 sister-in-law Steven & Judy Hazel of B'ham, Dan Hazel of home; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Paul (Elfrieda) Van Liew of B'ham; paternal grandparents, Nelson & Lucille Hazel of B'ham; paternal great grandmother, Martha Robertson of Newbury Park, CA; 1 niece & numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tues., June 9th at the Concrete Community Bible Church, Rev. John Tomei of the Bethel Evangelical Church, Vashon officiating. Interment will follow in the Concrete Cemetery under direction of Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.

HAZEL, Percy N., age 75, of 824 36th Street, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 1991. Memorial Service Sunday, February 17, 3:00 p.m., Jones-Moles Funeral Home, Pastor Steve Balvanz, Silver Beach Community Church, officiating. Born in Fruitvale, TX, September 26, 1915; he grew up in Texas & Southern California. Graduated from U.C.L.A. in June of 1937; married Lucille Robertson, October 9, 1937. Mr. Hazel moved to Bellingham in 1954 for the completion and startup of the Mobil Oil Ferndale Refinery. He was Process Engineer, after working for Mobil Oil in Torrance, CA for 17 years. The last part of 1961 he joined Mobil Oil over seas, as a Technical Director in Northan and South West Europe, working from his office in London, England; from there he moved to Mersin, Turkey as Manager of A.T.A.S. which was a combination of Mobil Oil and British Petroleum and Shell Oil. His next post was in Tokyo, Japan where he was a Director of Mobil East and Kyokuto Petroleum Industries. After several years in Japan, he and Mrs. Hazel returned to the Mobil New York offices, where he later retired from Mobil Oil. He moved to California and enjoyed many tournament tennis matches, and was at one time ranked 10th in the State of California. He later moved back to Bellingham, so he could be closer and enjoy his family. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. Survived by his wife, Lucille Hazel, of the family home; son, Percy and wife Linda Hazel of Concrete, WA; daughter, June Hazel of Bellingham; grandchildren, Dan Hazel, Steven and wife Judy Hazel; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Caleb and Audrey Hazel; brother, Norman and wife Ruth Hazel of Sparks, Nevada. HAZELTON, Bernice T., age 69, of Hoquiam, passed away suddenly in this city Friday, October 23, (1964). She i survived by 1 son, Earle S. of Bellingham; 1 daughter, Mrs. Dorothy L. Dowell; 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Anne Hayward of this city, Lane and Susan Dowell both of Hoquiam; a sister, Dorothy Krick, Deming Star Route and many other relatives. HAZELTON, Earle Sidney - A memorial gathering for Earle Sidney Hazelton of Bellingham will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at his daughter's home at 1121 Raymond St. His ashes will be placed in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Hazelton died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at St. Francis Extended Health Care. He was 84. Born May 23, 1913, to Sidney and Bernice Brown Hazelton in San Diego, he lived in Whatcom County since 1917. He married Melbourne Anne McGrath Aug. 2, 1937, in Montesano. Mr. Hazelton was a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines and logged more than one million miles without an accident. He also drove for the Bellingham School District. A member of Teamster Union Local No. 231 and Knights of Pythias Lodge, Mr. Hazelton was a car enthusiast and enjoyed golfing and gardening. Survivors include his wife of Bellingham, daughter Mary Anne Radder of Bellingham, two grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

HAZELTON, Melbourne Anne - A graveside service for Melbourne Anne Hazelton of Bellingham will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenacres Memorial Park, with her nephew, Jim Coleman, officiating. A luncheon will follow at 1121 Raymond St. Mrs. Hazelton died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at her home. She was 87. Born Aug. 11, 1912, to George Bryden and Rose (Lehman) McGrath in Sumas, she had been a lifetime Whatcom County resident and was a Sumas-Nooksack High School graduate. Mrs. Hazelton worked as a stenographer for the Washington state Department of Labor and Industry. On Aug. 2, 1937, she married Earl S. Hazelton in Montesano. He died in 1997. She loved music and attended many musical performances and loved photography and collecting pictures. She enjoyed traveling with her husband through the Pacific Northwest and Canada and she enjoyed driving to local cafes to meet with friends. Her brother, Harold Bryden "Mac" McGrath, preceded her in death. Survivors include daughter Mary Anne Radder of Bellingham, sister Arlene Coleman of Ferndale, brother Edward Virol "Bub" McGrath of Lacey, three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. HAZELTON, Sidney C., age 73, of 1707 Humboldt, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Sept. 3, (1958) following a short illness. Mr. Hazelton had resided in Bellingham for the past 45 years, was a retired truck driver and a member of the Eagles Lodge, Aerie No. 31. He leaves to survive his wife, Mrs. Bernice Hazelton at the family home; one son, Earl of this city; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Dowell of Hoquiam; three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Ackley officiating. Interment Greenacres.

HAZEN, Adella M., age 84, lifelong resident of Whatcom Co., died January 27, 1997 at St. Francis Ext. Health Care. She was born July 9, 1912 in Concrete, WA to Frank and Jennie (Oakes) Halliday. She was a graduate of Whatcom High School and married Virgil Hazen in Bellingham during World War II. He preceded her in death in 1958. Mrs. Hazen worked at St. Francis Ext. Health Care for 20 years. She was a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed taking guitar lessons at the senior activity center. Mrs. Hazen was a devoted mother and wife. Survived by a son, Clinton Hazen of Bellingham, and friend Sheila Hayes of Bellingham. Funeral services will be held at Westford Funeral Home Chapel 1:30 p.m. Friday January 31, 1997. HAZEN, Clara May, age 79 years, of Blaine Route 1, passed away Saturday, October 11, following a lingering illness. She had been a resident of this district for the past ten and one-half years, and is survived by her husband, Miner C. Hazen; three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Kline, Route 1 Blaine, Mrs. Margaret Foot, Santa Paula, California, Miss Winifred Hazen, Salt Lake City, Utah; two sons, Oliver M., Renton, Wash., and Stanley S., Seattle; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank H. Beels, Roseburg, Oregon; one sister, Cora A. Beels, York, Nebraska; one niece and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, October 18, at 10:30 a.m. from the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine, with Rev. C. G. Albertson, Ferndale officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Snohomish. Members of the Eastern Star will be in charge of the graveside services there.

HAZEN, Clementine G., age 74, of 1910 Harris Ave., passed away in a local hospital Friday, October 23, (1953). Mrs. Hazen had resided in this community for the past 65 years and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Surviving relatives include three sons; Virgil and Homer of Bellingham and Francis of Adrian, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Henrietta Burcham of Alameda, Calif., and Mrs. Isabel Wicklund of Redwood City, Calif.; 6 grandchildren, and two sisters: Mrs. Constance Ellnan of Deadwood, Ore., and Mrs. Almira Reid of Lawrence, Wash. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Clarence Haugen Monday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation.

HAZEN, Homer B., age 72, of 2614 Hampton Place, Bellingham, passed away Thurs., Sept. 8, (1977). A life time resident of Bellingham he had been employed as a sales representative for San Juan Is. Airlines. Surviving are his wife, Jennie; a daughter, Helene Fitzsimmons of Los Gatos, Calif.; a brother, Frank in Florida; 2 sisters, Henrietta Burcham and Isabelle Wicklund both in Calif.; also 6 grandchildren and 1 aunt, Almira Reid of Everson. At his request no services will be held. Cremation under direction of Veroskes Bellingham Chapel.

HAZEN, Thomas Arthur, "Tom," 40, a 10 year resident of Bellingham, WA, died after a brief stay at his sister and brother-in-laws home in Lacey, WA. He died Feb. 15, 1997 of cancer. He was born Feb. 27, 1956, in Everett, WA to Arthur Gail Hazen and Retha Marie Vasicko Hazen. He graduated from Pilchuck High School in Marysville, WA in 1974 and served our country in the Air Force from 1974-1982. Mr. Hazen was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Bellingham, WA. He was employed by Towner Printing of Bellingham at the time of his death, but we would also like to acknowledge his former employers, Print & Copy Factory, also of Bellingham. Tom "Tomcat" took pleasure in life. He enjoyed bowling, pool, darts, music and dancing. He was also an avid reader. His greatest joy was his daughter, Hilary J. Hazen, and he was extremely proud to be chosen as godfather to Jennifer, Alicia and Lee Durbin. Tom loved his family and friends. He is survived by his grandmother, Garnett Vasicko, of Tacoma, WA; his mother and stepfather, Retha M. and Harley S. Baird of Sultan, WA; his daughter, Hilary J. Hazen of Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA; a sister and her husband, William K. and Linda M. Wieland, of Lacey, WA; two brothers and their wives, Michael B. and Kimberly L. Hazen, and James E. and Eleanor G. Hazen, all of Marysville. He was also blessed with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as his godchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur G. Hazen. A Service celebrating Tom's life memorial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Sat. Feb. 22 at the home of Mike & Kim Hazen, 9314 50th Ave. N.E., Marysville, WA. Father Jim of Assumption Catholic Church of Bellingham will officiate. Honorary pallbearers chosen are Andrew Adams, Vernon Barton, Bill Wieland, Mike Hazen, Jim Hazen & Les Durbin.

HAZEN, Thomas E., age 52, of 2535 St. Paul St. passed away at a local hospital Friday, December 7, 1990. He had been a resident of Bellingham the past 11 years, and was Co-owner and Store Manager of King & Daul Tires. He was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church, and Bellingham Central Lion's. He leaves to survive his wife Sharon Hazen of Bellingham; sons, Thomas E. Hazen Jr. and wife Lori of Lynden, and James M. Hazen and wife Debby of Olympia; daughter Kristy Pfleughoft and husband Kurt of Kent; sister, Mary Marler and husband Jack of Renton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marla and Bill Rodgers of Bellingham; brother-in-law, Keith Dunigan of Auburn and sister-in law, Harold & Judy Dunigan of Newark, CA; aunt Fran Wollam of Kent; 4 grandchildren. Numerous cousins, nieces & nephews. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 13, 11:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Jim Lee celebrant. HAZENBERG, Gerrit, former Lynden resident, died suddenly Monday (Feb. 6, 1978) at his home at Snohomish while working in his yard. He was 50 years old. He was born in Holland and came to America with his parents in 1947. He was married to Ann Dykstra Aug. 30, 1957. They spent many years of their married life in Naknek, Alaska. He moved to Seattle with his family in 1976. He is survived by his wife Ann, his son Hank and wife Teresa, Alaska; one son, Peter at home; his father and mother, Herman and Lies Hazenberg, Seattle; 2 brothers, Hank Hazenberg, Prosser and Peter Hazenberg of Moses Lake and his aunt Harnike Nobach and many nieces and nephews.

HAZENBURG, Herman, age 74, formally of Lynden, died suddenly at his home in Edmonds, on April 29, (1978). He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, two sons, Henk and Pete, both of the Yakima area, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, one sister Harmke Noback, of Lynden, and numerous nieces and nephews. Hi son Gerrit preceded him in death in Feb. 78. The funeral will be on Wednesday May 3 at 1 p.m. Floral Hill Chapel, Lynnwood. Reverend Vander Woude will officiate.

HAZER, Matthew G., age 83, of 2331 Cherry St., passed away in a local hospital Friday, Dec. 26, (1952). Mr. Hazer had resided in this community for the past 45 years and was a retired farmer. Surviving relatives are his widow, Sarah E. at home; one daughter, Mrs. Velma Fillinger, of Medford, Ore.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Hazel Bowman and Mrs. Charlotte Mathiesen, both of Bellingham; three stepsons, Duane frank and Gerome Both, all of Bellingham, and one step-grandson, S/Sgt. Ronald Jones, stationed at Moses Lake Air Force Base, Moses Lake, Wash. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun Monday, Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m. Cremation.

HAZER, Sarah Eva, age 83, of 2331 Cherry St., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, June 18, (1955). Mrs. Hazer had resided in this community for the past 72 years and was a member of the Royal Neighbors. Surviving relatives include three sons, Duane E. Both, Frank L. Both and G. Gerome Both; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Bowman and Mrs. Charlotte Mathiesen, all of Bellingham; one grandson, S/Sgt. Ronald E. Jones, USAF in France; one brother, Ernest L. Scrimsher of Bellingham; numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Dr. W. Carl Calhoun Monday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m. followed by cremation.

HAZLETT, Elizabeth Marsha, age 78, of 1460 Iron Street, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Feb. 16, (1955). Mrs. Hazlett had resided in this community for the past 28 years and was a member of the Silver Beach Community Church. Surviving relatives include two sons, Leo F. Hazlett of Emporia, Kans., Harry W. Hazlett of Astoria, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Ethyl Whitley of Bellingham, Mrs. Alyce Dunn of Medford, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dora Welcome of Bellingham; two brothers, Frank Carr of Tacoma, and Charles Carr of South Bend, Wash. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. George Ackley, Monday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAZLETT, Jack C., 70, of Beaverton, Ore., died Thursday, July 16, 1992, at home. Private committal rites were held. Mr. Hazlett was born March 23, 1923, in Fresno, Calif., to John and Lynetta Forsman Hazlett. He graduated from Roosevelt High school in Seattle and attended the University of Washington. He was a World War II Army veteran who served in Europe for three years in the 349th Infantry Regiment. He married Kathryn Piercy May 9, 1951, in Ketchikan, Alaska and later lived in Bellingham, Kennewick, Puyallup and Beaverton. Mr. Hazlett worked for 29 years as a golf professional at golf and country clubs. Since moving to Beaverton in 1981, he was the Senior Pro at the Summerfield Golf Club in Tigard, Ore. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, the Professional Golf Association and the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. in Puyallup. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn "Kay" Hazlett, of Beaverton; son Peter Hazlett and grandson Daniel Hazlett, both of Charleston, S.C. Arrangements by Fuiten-Rose Mortuary Chapel, Forest Grove, Ore.

HAZLETT, Leo F., age 81, passed away at the family home, 3812 Kansas St., Friday, May 23, (1952). Mr. Hazlett had resided in this community for the past 24 years, and was a retired farmer. Surviving relatives are his widow, Elizabeth M., at home; two sons, Leo Jr., of Emporia, Kan., and Harry W. of Astoria, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Ethyl M. Whitley, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Alyce N. Dunn, of Riddle, Ore.; eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Flora Ladner, of Onaga, Kan., and Mrs. Agnes Dickson, of Hugo, Okla., also numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. George A. Ackley, Tuesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. Cremation.
