HANKAMP, George, Rev., age 80, of 110 2nd St., Lynden, passed away in a Bellingham hospital Wednesday, April 20, (1960) following a short illness. Born in Germany, March 28, 1880, the Rev. Hankamp came to the United States at the age of 4. He received his BA degree from Hope College in 1907 and received his BD degree from Western Theological Seminary in 1910. He served two churches in Michigan, one in Iowa and for six years taught philosophy and Bible at Central College, Pella, Iowa. In 1931 he moved to Lynden where he served as pastor for the First Reformed Church of Lynden for 18 years, retiring in 1949. Surviving are his wife, Alida at home; one son LaMar Hankamp in Ann Arbor, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. C. O. Fitzwater of Chevy Chase, Md., Miss Lois Hankamp of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Joe Hankamp in Grand Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. John Wierenga of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Gerrard Steima of Grandville, Mich., also seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the First Reformed Church in Lynden, Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m., Rev. William Miller officiating, assisted by Rev. A. VanBronkhorst. Concluding services and interment will be held in Grandville, Mich. Arrangements under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.

HANKE, August, age 99, who resided at 1224 Noon Road, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Dec. 15, (1960) following a brief illness. Mr. Hanke had resided in Bellingham for the past 57 years. He leaves to survive, four sons, Bernard of the Noon Road, G. S. Hanke, Bellingham, Edward, Seattle and Fred of So. Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Brockway of Juneau, Alaska, and Mrs. Mable Aubert of Anacortes; also seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The Rev. D. W. Taylor, pastor of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, will conduct graveside services on Monday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of the Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.

HANKE, Bessie Irene, beloved mother and grandmother, who resided at 444 S. State St., passed away Thursday, April 7, (1977) at her residence at the age of 73. She was a 58 year resident of Bellingham and a graduate of St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing. No services will be held at her request. Cremation. She leaves to survive 1 daughter, Betty Tretwold of Bellingham; also 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Agnes Gabrielson and Colleen Bauter both of Bellingham; 1 brother, Ivan Dickinson of Seattle. HANKE, Matilda D., age 84, of 1916 Harris St., passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, Oct. 27, (1960). A resident of Bellingham for the past 58 years, Mrs. Hanks leaves to survive her husband, August, at home; four sons, Gus, Fred and Bernard, all of Bellingham and Edward of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. W. P. Aubert of Anacortes, and Mrs. Millie Brockway of Juneau, Alaska; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Dickman of Missoula, Mont. Private graveside services were conducted at Greenacres Memorial Park by Pastor Don Taylor, Friday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.

HANKE, Sophie - Memorial services for Sophie M., age 74 of 700 32nd St., will be Wed. Aug. 26, 1 p.m. at Calvary Temple with Pastor John Kolenda officiating. Interment Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Hanke passed away Sat. Aug. 22, 1981. She is survived by 6 children, Fred Hanke Jr. of Seattle, Mildred Lind, Karla Flynn both of City, Rose Thilges of Graham, Charles J. HANKINS, Harry, age 64 years, 2114 Young Street, passed away at a local hospital, Thursday, May 3, (1945) following a lingering illness. Mr. Hankins had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 50 years and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. Surviving relatives include the widow, Mrs. Maude Hankins; three daughters, Mrs. Bette Dimmick, Olympia, Wash., Mrs. Harriet Sutton, El Cerrito, Calif., and Mrs. Florence Anderson, Vashon Island; one sister, Mrs. Leslie Brown, Helena, Mont., and four grandchildren. Rosary will be recited within the Church of the Assumption, Sunday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m., solemn requiem mass will be sung at the church, Monday, May 7, at 9 a.m. with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. G. Stafford, officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home.

HANKINS, Katie Snow, formerly of Bellingham, died Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, in Santa Paula, Calif. She was 88. Services were held in Santa Paula. A 1927 graduate of Whatcom High School, she worked as an office manager for Thiel & Welter furniture store and White House Market. She moved to Santa Paula after her marriage to Miles Hankins. Survivors include son Larry Hankins of Santa Paula, daughter Janet Hankins of Santa Paula, sisters Ann Harrington of Moses Lake, Laura Wilson of Bellingham and many nieces and nephews.

HANKINS, Maude Duvall, of Richmond, Calif., met with accidental death in that city Saturday, October 10, (1953) at the age of 61. Mrs. Hankins is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Florence Anderson of Dockton, Wash., Mrs. Harriett Sutton, of Richmond, Calif., Mrs. Betty Dimmick, of Olympia, Wash.; four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Hanson, of Ferndale, Mrs. Lynn Evans of West Boro, Wis., Mrs. Zoa Jeter of Ashlen [?Ashland], Ore., and Mrs. Lorretta Andres of Medford, Ore.; also six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Remains will lie in state in the chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home from Thursday noon until Friday at 10 a.m. when requiem high mass will be celebrated by Father C. G. Crosse in the Church of the Assumption. Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7 o'clock in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment Woodlawn.

HANKINS, Nettie M., age 81, of 2206 South St., passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, June 19, (1956) following an extended illness. Mrs. Hankins had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 65 years. She was a member of the Fiarhaven Methodist Church and the Rebekahs. Surviving relatives include five sons, Ralph of Vancouver, B.C., Bryan of Seattle, Alfred E. of Olympia, Miles of Santa Paula, Calif., Allen F. of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Goldsmith and Mrs. Edith Harper, both of Stockton, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Walker of Granger, Wash. Funeral services will be conducted June 22 at 10:30 a.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Alfred S. Palmer, pastor, officiating. Interment Greenacres.

HANKINS, Regatha Lucille - A memorial service for Regatha Lucille Hankins, formerly of Bellingham, was scheduled this morning at St. Michael Catholic Church in Snohomish. Mrs. Hankins died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1994, at the home of her daughter in Snohomish. She was 85. Born April 14, 1909, to Clarence and Grace Crout in Lake Cassidy, she spent her youth in Anacortes. She moved to Bellingham after marrying Allen Hankins and lived here until 1973. Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years in 1988. Survivors include sons Rex Hankins of Whidbey Island, Ellis Hankins of Port Angeles, Jack Hankins of Granite Falls, Glen Hankins of Bellingham and Allen Hankins of Atlanta; daughters Sally Lind of Snohomish and Mettye Mae Largin of Atlanta; 28 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Arrangements are by Evergreen Funeral Home in Everett.

HANKINS, Samuel T., of 3325 Northwest Avenue, passed away in a local hospital, Monday, May 19, (1947). Mr. Hankins had been a resident of this community for the past twenty-five years and was an accountant for the Birchwood Hatchery; a member of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, F. and A.M., and Scottish Rite. Surviving relatives are the widow, Minnie A., at home; two sons, George F., of Bellingham, John S., of Portland; one daughter, Mrs. Beth Griesel, and one grandson, Robert George Griesel, of Bellingham; two brothers, Fred H., of Parshall, North Dakota, and George G., of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. N. J. Dunlap, of Urbana, Ill., and Mrs. Elza Greider, of Springfield, Ill. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun and officers of the Masonic Lodge, Thursday, May 22, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

HANKINS, Valentine Newell of Edmonds, died August 23, (1977) in Edmonds. Born February 14, 1898 in Denver, Colorado. She was a member of the Edmonds United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. & American Legion Auxiliaries. HANKS, Harry H. - Graveside service for Harry H. Hanks, age 90, of 2411 C St., will be Tues. Jan. 20, 10:30 a.m. at Ten Mile Cemetery with Mr. Paul Elvig officiating. Mr. Hanks passed away Wed. Jan. 14, 1987. A Bellingham resident for 81 years, he was a member of Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7 American Legion; life member of Chapter 19 Disabled American Veterans; life member of Wm. Matthews Post No. 1585 VFW and is survive by 2 sons, Russell M. & wife Betty Hanks of City; Gerald D. Hanks of Ellensburg, Wa.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. HANKS, Harry L., age 78, of 114 Grand Ave., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, Nov. 26, (1966). Mr. Hanks had residede in Bellingham for many years and was a retired plywood worker. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, a honorary life member of the KC Council No. 829 and a member of the Olympia Elks Lodge No. 186. He leaves to survive his sister, Mrs. Edith Sink of Mason City, Illinois. Requiem mass will be offered Thursday, December 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of the Assumption. Interment Bay View under the direction of the Westford Funeral Home.

HANKS, John (Jack), age 75, 2908 Cottonwood Ave., passed away Thursday, March 17, (1966). Born in Boscobel, Wisconsin, Mr. Hanks was a direct descendant of Abraham Lincoln. He had resided in this city the past sixty years and was a retired contractor; a veteran of WWI; a member of William Matthews Post No. 1585, VFW, and the Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion. Survivors are his widow, Mabel M.; a brother, Harry H. Hanks of this city; a sister, Mrs. Isabel Berry of Sparks, Nev.; three nieces and three nephews. Services will be conducted by Rev. C. Theodore Hegg Tuesday, March 22 at 10 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ten Mile Cemetery.

Nov. 6, 1982. She is survived by her husband Harry H. Hanks; 2 step-sons, Russell M. Hanks and Gerald D. HANKS, Mahlon Melvin, age 74 yrs., of Fort Bellingham, passed away at a local hospital Saturday evening, October 9, (1948) following a lingering illness. Mr. Hanks is survived by nieces and nephews; also a brother, Bert, in Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at Monroe's Chapel in Ferndale Tuesday, October 12, at 3 p.m. Interment Enterprise cemetery.

HANKS, Mattie L. - Burial services for Mrs. Mattie L. Hanks, 82, North Bend, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Woodlawn Cemetery under direction of Veroske's Chapel. Mrs. Hanks, who died Sunday (Dec. 11, 1971) in a Seattle hospital, was a 20-year resident of California where she taught in Seventh Day Adventist Schools. She moved to North Bend three years ago and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church there. She is survived by a son, Leon Forget, of Bellevue and two grandchildren.

HANKS, Russell M. of Bellingham died Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994. He was 71. At his request, no services will be held. Born Dec. 15, 1922, to Harry and Anna Rittel Hanks in Bellingham, he lived in Whatcom County all his life. Mr. Hanks worked as a boat builder for may years. He was a World War II veteran and served with the 760th Tank Battalion, Co. D. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bellingham and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hanks, of the family home; sons Fred Hanks of Bellingham and James Hanks of Tacoma; grandson Patrick Hanks of Tacoma; brother Gerald Hanks of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.

HANLEY, Bertie, age 57, of 609 Gladstone, passed away suddenly at a local hospital Thursday, June 7, (1951). Mr. Hanley was a paper worker for the Pacific Coast Paper Mills, a member of the Eagles Lodge and a veteran of World War I. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mrs. Phillip Eckert, of Lynden, and Mrs. Marion Cooper of Fullerton, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Hattie Hanley of Anacortes; three grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence of LaConner, and George of Anacortes; five sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Steinman of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Grace Dibble of Wrangell, Alaska; Mrs. Bert Verrall and Mrs. Oliver Hauge, both of Anacortes, and Mrs. May Hanley, of Seattle. Many nephews and nieces. HANLEY, Martha J., age 64 of 421 Maple Street, Bellingham, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, June 11, 1981. She was a recent graduate of Western Washington University, having graduated in its last class. HANLEY, Thomas R., - Reverend Thomas R., age 82, passed away June 13, (1983) in Seattle. He was educated at St. Martin's High School and College and entered the Benedictine's there. He was ordained to the Priesthood in Rome in 1926. He taught at St. Martin's until 1950 when he joined the Art Diocese of Seattle. The Parishes he served include: St. James Cathedral, Star of the Sea in Bremerton, Sacred Heart and Assumption in Bellingham, and Holy Rosary in Seattle. Father Hanley is survived by his brother, Reverend Maurice R. Hanley of White Rock, B.C.; his sisters, Sister Louise Hanley, SNJM of Seattle, Sister Michael Maureen SNJM of Longview, WA, Rose Mary Hanley, Betty Ann Becker, and Cathleen Mead of Seattle; 2 nieces and 11 nephews. Christian Wake Service for Father Hanley will be held Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 10:30 a.m. both at Holy Rosary Church. HANLEY, Violet (Cavallero), age 36 of Yakima, passed away in that city Monday, December 19, (1966). She had resided in Yakima for the past 10 years and had been a former resident of Bellingham. She leaves to survive her husband, Frank J.; 3 sons, Craig Michael, Edward Patrick and Anthony Francis, all at home; 1 sister, Mrs. Christine Clapper of Portland. Rosary will be said Wednesday, December 21 at 7 p.m. at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Yakima. Requiem mass will be offered Thursday, December 22 at 9 a.m. at the church. HANLEY, Zepha Mae, age 51, of 2622 Meridian Street, passed away at a local hospital Monday morning, November 27, (1950) following a short illness. Mrs. Hanley had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 22 years and was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving relatives include her husband, Bertie Clyde Hanley, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Eckert, of Lynden, and Mrs. Marion Cooper, of Bellingham; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McFadden, of Bellingham; three grandchildren, Vance and Linda Ann Eckert and Dennis Ray Cooper; a brother, Alva McFadden, of Anchorage, Alaska; an aunt, Mrs. Emma Fields, of Bellingham, and many other relatives. HANLON, Ernest - Fifty-year Bellingham resident Ernest E. Hanlon, 88, of 1200 Lincoln St., died Friday (Jan. 22, 1988) in a local hospital. Mr. Hanlon was born March 29, 1899, in Thorpe. He had been a resident of Bellingham since 1937. He was employed as a coal miner from 1937 to 1954, then worked for The Bon until his retirement in 1964. Mr. Hanlon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by two sons during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Edith C., of the family home; a daughter, Dorothy Britten of Miami Shores, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Bev Haley of Ferndale and Darla O'Malley of Arlington; a stepson, Terry Mesford of Seattle; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2925 James Street, with Bishop Dan Erickson officiating. HANLON, Josephine Ellen, age 67, of 2805 Kulshan St., passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, April 8, (1958). Mrs. Hanlon had resided in this city for the past 21 years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Surviving relatives are her husband, Ernest E. at home; one son, Eugene Brannon of Rt. 2, Lynden; one granddaughter, Mrs. Sue Ann McDonald of Bellingham; one brother, Monte Evans of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Myra Pressley of Cloverdale, B.C., Mrs. Stella Bump of Monroe, Wash., and Mrs. Mamie Autry of Everett, Wash. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Bishop Henry Linde, assisted by Percy O'Neil, Friday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

HANN, Ernest O., age 82, of 1250 Ellis street passed away in a local hospital Saturday, October 6, (1951). Mr. Hann had resided here since 1902 and was a photographer. He was a member of Howard Lodge No. 48, I.O.O.P., of Howard, South Dakota. He leaves to survive, one sister, Miss Mabel Hann, of this city; one brother, Jay B. Hann, of San Mateo, Calif.; and two nieces and two nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Penhalurick Tuesday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation.

HANNA, Elvera G., of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2002. She was a lifelong resident of Bellingham, WA. By her request there will be no services held. She was born at Blue Canyon, Whatcom County, on June 21, 1915 to Pete and Rose Johnson and graduated from Whatcom High School. After high school she started working for the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. She married Donald D. Hanna, Dec. 10, 1938. Her husband, Don Hanna passed away in Oct. 1967. Elvera is survived by her son, Command Sergeant Major Timothy D. Hanna, U.S. Army (Ret.) and his wife Joan; her two daughters, Karen Tavis and Susan Kingman; her brother, Walter Johnson and wife Vera. She has four grandchildren, Cheri and Tim Nunamaker, Darren Hanna and Danne Fell. She also has three great-grandsons, Derrick, Tyler and Deven Fell, and nieces and nephews on both the Johnson and Hanna sides of the family. She was someone who worked hard for her family and was a strong role model. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She especially loved and enjoyed children and animals. After 36 years of service, she retired from the phone Co., where she held the position of Supervisor. In her later years, she volunteered to hel[p] children with water therapy at St. Lukes and found this to be very fulfilling. For many years she was a active member of the Telephone Pioneers, serving as secretary. She also was a long standing member of the American Legion. Westford Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

HANNA, Emilie, age 59, of 6531 32nd S. W., Seattle, passed away in a Seattle hospital, Friday, April 20, (1951). Mrs. Hanna had resided in Seattle for the past five years and for the previous 50 years had been a resident of this community. She was a member of the First Advent Christian church here and was a nurse for many years with the Visiting Nurses' Association. Surviving her are three sons, Sgt. 1st Class James M. Hanna Jr., of Seattle, John W., of Portland, and Frank B. Hanna of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Lois M. Roush, of Seattle; three grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Hattie Brown, of this city; four brothers, Earl Brown, of Alaska, George, Lewis and Malcolm, of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Zobrist, of Seattle, Mrs. Irene Olsen, of Bremerton, and Mrs. Katherene Shroads, of this city. The remains will be received by the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Joe Tom Tate Wednesday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

HANNA, Heather Lynn - Memorial services are to be held Wednesday at Olympia for Heather Lynn Hanna, 20, of 1122 19th St., who died last Thursday in an apparent bicycle-automobile accident. She was born Aug. 4, 1959, in Lawrence, Kan., and had been a local resident for the past two years. She was co-owner of Kulshan Cycles. She is survived by her parents, R. and Mrs. Lawrence Hanna, and two sisters and a brother. The memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 7438 Cooper Point Road, Olympia. Arrangements are by Selene Mortuary, Olympia.

HANNA, James Murray, Rev., age 97 of 1530 James St., Bellingham, WA passed away Feb. 17, 1993. He was born June 7, 1895 in Alpenna, Michigan to John Rothwell and Clara Hanna. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was pastor at a Napa, CA church for four years and in a Chicago, Ill church for three years. He moved to Bellingham 20 years ago. His survivors are his two sons, James Murray Hanna Jr. of Bellingham and Frank Hanna of Ferndale; a daughter, Lois Roush of Stanwood, WA. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 1993 in the Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel with Rev. Al Currier officiating. A graveside service was held at Bayview Cemetery. The arrangements are entrusted to Jerns Leveck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.

HANNA, Laura A., age 77, of 403 13th St., passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, April 8, (1959) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Hanna had resided in Bellingham for the past 60 years and was a member of the Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58, Order of Eastern Star. She leaves to survive one son, Donald of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Genther of this city, and Mrs. Jean Gairnis of Seattle; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. B. DeFoe Newman of this city, Mrs. Mary Adams and Mrs. Beatrice Rathy, both of San Francisco, Calif.; two brothers, Clyde DeFoe of Kelso and Albert DeFoe of Long Beach, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. N. A. Dahle officiating. Interment Greenacres. The remains of Mrs. Hanna will lie in state from 12 noon Friday until 12 noon Monday.

HANNA, Maurice, age 46, passed away at the family home, 2727 James Street, Wednesday, March 26, (1947). Mr. Hanna had been a lifelong resident of this community and was the owner of the Maurice Hanna Automotive Service. Deceased was a member of the First Church of Christ Science. Surviving relatives are the widow, Karen W. and one son, Arnie, both at home; one aunt, Mrs. John Clenden and one uncle, Will Jones, all of Bellingham. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where Christian Science services will be conducted Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. Cremation.

HANNA, Ruth E., 86, a former employee of the accounting department at the Bon, died Monday (Oct. 12, 1987) in Bellingham. Mrs. Hanna, 711 11th Street, was born Aug. 22, 1901, in Spokane and had lived in Bellingham for the past 20 years. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church and worked as a volunteer there. Surviving are her husband, the Rev. James J. Murray Hanna of Bellingham; three stepsons, James M. Hanna and Frank B. Hanna of Bellingham and John W. Hanna of Portland; a daughter Lois Roush of Camano Island; a brother, Elmer Girvan of Everett; and a sister, Beulah Case of Seattle. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jerns and LeVeck Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Al Currier officiating. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery.

HANNAH, Alvan Justin of Friday Harbor, formerly of Whatcom County, passed away in Anacortes on Thursday, Dec. 17, (1992) at the age of 93. Mr. Hannah was born in Seattle on July 21, 1899 to Henry and Jenny Barr Hannah. He first moved to Friday Harbor at the age of 5. At age 20 he came to Whatcom County, where he graduated from Bellingham Normal School and then did postgraduate work at Oregon State University. He taught primarily math for 32 years in various school districts, including Nooksack and Blaine. Hannah was also involved in boat building. His pride was a 32-foot fishing schooner which bears his wife's name, "The Helen Hinton," and is still operating in Alaskan waters at this time. He an Helen were married in the Van Buren area of Whatcom County on Aug. 19, 1923. Helen passed away in March 1991. Hannah served in the Navy during World War I and was a member of the American Legion of Friday Harbor, where he had lived for the past 14 years. Survivors include his son Vernon "Bernie" Hannah and wife Bernell of Friday Harbor, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial in Lynden Cemetery. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

HANNAH, Helen Virginia, 87, passed away at the family farm on San Juan Island on Friday, March 1, 1991. Helen was born on the Hinton family farm in Van Buren on Feb. 16, 1904, a daughter of Henry and Augusta (Smith) Hinton. She attended Clearbrook Grade School and graduated in three years from Nooksack Valley High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended Bellingham Normal School in 1923 and 1924 and was also an assistant in the Art Department. In Van Buren on Aug. 19, 1923 she was married to Alvan J. Hannah.
In 1924 Helen climbed and stood on top of Mt. Baker. In 1929 she assisted the family in the building of a 32-foot fishing schooner which bears her name, "The Helen Hinton," and is still operating in Alaska waters at this time. Helen carried her operator's license and took an active part in the family's charter and commercial fishing business. Helen's main interest was her family and she was very talented in needlework.
Mrs. Hannah is survived by her husband of 67 years, Alvan of the family home; a son, Vernon D. "Bernie" Hannah and wife Bernell of San Juan; a brother, Robert Hinton and wife Martha of Nooksack; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by a son, Kedrick, three brothers, two sisters and her parents. Funeral services were conducted today in the chapel of Gillies Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Slater officiating. Burial followed in Lynden Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

HANNAH, Henry J., age 87, who resided at Friday Harbor, Wash., passed away Sunday, March 18, following a lingering illness. Mr. Hannah resided in Friday Harbor his entire lifetime. He leaves to survive two sons, Alvin J. of Anacortes and Edgar J. Hannah of Friday Harbor; one brother, Ben Hannah of Friday Harbor, also five grandchildren. Private funeral services were held Wednesday, March 22, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home, followed by cremation.

HANNAH, Kedric C., age 24, of Anacortes, passed away in a Seattle hospital, Thursday, December 8, (1949). Mr. Hannah was born in Van Buren, Wash., in 1925 and served in the navy in World War II. He was a graduate of Bellingham High School and was attending college in Corvallis, Oregon, at the time of his death. Surviving relatives include his wife, Elaine; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Elvin J. HANNEMAN, Nancy Lou, age 37 of Alderwood Manor, passed away Tuesday Aug. 16, (1977). Miss Hanneman had been a resident of Bellingham for 19 years having moved to the Seattle area 18 years ago. HANNERS, Frances – On August 20, 2007, at age 85, Frances Hanners of Bellingham died peacefully while asleep after a long bout with a weak heart and diabetes. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, her daughter Connie Barbini from Ohio, her sons Brian and Roger from Seattle, and her son Richard from Montana. Frances was born and grew up in Georgia. She was a youthful prodigy who taught high school math before reaching age 20. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Government in Washington DC as a mathematician. Toward the end of World War II she met and married Al Hanners from Wisconsin. After the war he became an oil geologist in foreign work. Frances followed him to Venezuela where three children were born; one child was born in the US. Then they went to Trinidad, New York, and Canada. While in Canada she delivered Meals On Wheels and drove cancer patients. Frances and Al retired in Bellingham in 1981. Frances loved to travel. She visited all but one of the Canadian provinces and all the US states. After retirement she went to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, China, and Turkey. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making things. She loved golf, bridge, classical music, and read many books. A Celebration of Life will be held for close friends and family at a later date.

HANNING, Angela M., age 59, of 1715 Broadway, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, October 15, (1950) following a stroke. Mrs. Hanning had been a resident of Bellingham her entire life; she was the owner of Hanning Hardware and a member of the Bellingham Rebecca Lodge No. 43. Surviving relatives include, her daughter, Mrs. Shirley Holland; her father, Lorenz Neher; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hale; two brothers, L. D. and J. M. Neheer, and two grandsons, Larry and Daryl Holland, all of Bellingham; numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 17, at 3 p.m., within the chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home. Christian Sciences services will be read and there will be ritualistic services by the Rebecca Lodge. Cremation.

HANNON, Evelina C., age 86, passed away in a local sanitarium Wednesday, December 15, (1965). Mrs. Hannon was a member of the Church of the Assumption and leaves to survive several nieces and nephews. Requiem Mass will be offered Friday, December 17 at 9:30 a.m. from the Church of the Assumption, under the direction of the Westford Funeral Home. Interment Greenacres.

HANNON, Will, formerly of this district (Greenwood) passed away at the home of his brother in Bellingham Friday, (April 14, 1922), at the age of 76 years. He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Hugh Hannon of Bellingham, and one sister at Everett. Funeral services were held at Harlow's Parlors in Bellingham, and interment was at the Greenwood cemetery Sunday. His wishes were to be buried at the Greenwood cemetery, because his aged mother was buried there some years ago. This community extend sincerest sympathy to the relatives.

HANNON, William M., age 73 years, of 2516 St. Paul Street, passed away at a local hospital, Monday, May 11, (1959). Mr. Hannon had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 20 years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption and leaves to survive his wife, Mrs. Evelina Hannon at the family home; two brothers, Francis of Long Beach, Calif., and John of Seattle; one sister, Mrs. Mary Root of Sacramento; also many nieces and nephews and other relatives. HANON, Bert N., age 76, of 2394 Chuckanut Dr., passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Aug. 8, (1961). HANOVER, Mabel Aubert, age 68, of 401 1st St., Anacortes, WA, passed away Sun., Feb. 16, 1986 at Skagit Valley General Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Bellingham, WA Oct. 28, 1918. She attended school in Whatcom County. Prentice & Mabel Aubert worked together at Bellingham Drug until 1940 when they purchased & operated Aubert Drug in Anacortes, WA until retirement in 1964. She is survived & will be remembered with love by her husband, Stanley Hanover at the family home in Anacortes; her sister, Millie Brockway in Sitka, Alaska; numerous nieces & nephews in Bellingham & Seattle. HANOVER, Wilga, age 63 years, of Lynden, passed away in a local rest home Wednesday, Sept. 18, (1957) following a lingering illness. She had resided in Lynden since 1909 and was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. HANOWELL, Brandi Marie - A memorial service for Brandi Marie Hanowell of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nooksack Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Kim Anderson officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery. Ms. Hanowell died at home Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997. She was 21. Born Oct. 4, 1975, in Urbana, Ill., she and her brother, Kermit, were adopted by Steve and Clara Dejong Hanowell when Ms. Hanowell was four years old. A 1994 graduate of Nooksack Valley High school, she was a cook at the Olive Garden Restaurant and attended Nooksack Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing softball and soccer and participated in FFA and Teens for Christ. Survivors include her parents, Clara and Les Doerksen of Medford, Ore., and Steve and Connie Hanowell of Sumas; brothers Kermit Hanowell and Shawn Hanowell, both of Salem, Ore.; half-sister Cheyenne Hanowell of Sumas; step-sisters Corinne Doerksen of Victoria, B.C., and Camilla Doerksen of Prince George, B.C.; grandparents John and Stella Som of Lynden, Richard and Patricia Hanowell of Ferndale and Jake and Hertha Doerksen of Abbotsford, B.C.; and numerous other relatives. HANOWELL, Charles S. - Funeral services for Mr. Charles S. Hanowell, age 79, 103 Jackson St., Nooksack, were conducted on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Gillies Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Henthorn officiating. Burial followed in Nooksack Cemetery. Mr. Hanowell, who died at his home on Monday, Jan. 12, 1987, was born on Feb. 19, 1907, in the Glen Echo area of Whatcom County and had been a lifetime county resident. He had been employed by the Whatcom County Road Department until his retirement in 1970. He is survived by his wife Rosalie; two sons, Bill and wife Helga of Spokane and Robert and wife Ann of Everson; five daughters, Mrs. Beverly and husband Bernard Deeter, Mrs. Dorothea and husband Lonnie Davenport, Mrs. Catherine and husband Ted Minaker and Mrs. Daisy and husband Ron Knittel, all of Everson, and Marcia Hanowell of Nooksack; 13 grand- and five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

HANOWELL, Cleta M., 80, a former long-time Nooksack resident, passed away in a Stanwood nursing home on Sept. 7, 1992. The daughter of Robert and Eva May Stump, Cleta was born in Cestos, Okla. on Aug. 20, 1912 and moved with her family to the Everson area in 1913. She graduated from Sumas-Nooksack High School. On March 3, 1934 she was married to her husband Walter in Nooksack. Mrs. Hanowell had been employed as a telephone operator in Nooksack and than as a postal clerk at the Nooksack Post Office, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Nooksack Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed music and was an avid HAM radio operator with the call sign KA7AVI and was also a member of the Radio Disciples of Amateur Radio Fellowship. She is survived by three sons, Manny Hanowell of Seattle, Stan Hanowell and wife Sue of Arlington and Jerry Hanowell and wife Gail of Clarkston; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Carmen of Bellingham and Ethel Kentch of Ferndale; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded by her husband Walter in 1988, whose brother, Ernie Hanowell, also passed away in Port Angeles on Sept. 7. Memorial funeral services were conducted on Friday in Nooksack Advent Christian Church with Rev. Carl Crouse officiating. Burial preceded in Nooksack Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.

HANOWELL, Dorothy M. - Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy M. Hanowell, age 71, who died on Sunday, February 10, (1980) were conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Carlson officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Hanowell, who resided at 7531 Nooksack Road, Everson, was a lifetime Nooksack area resident and is survived by two sons, James of Everson, and Percy of Ferndale; three daughters, Mrs. Bonnie (Nick) Jansen of Bellingham, Mrs. Barbara (Dennis) Laankhaar of Lynden and Ms. Sandra Loewen of Bellingham; 23 grand and numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Mr. Earl Handy of Bellingham and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Johnson of Port Angeles and numerous nieces and nephews.

HANOWELL, Ernest A., 83, died Sept. 7, 1992 in Port Angeles. He was born Jan. 20, 1909 in Lynn Valley, British Columbia to John and Maria Naar Hanowell. He graduated from Nooksack Elementary School in 1924. In his youth he worked on a dairy farm near Nooksack and in wheat harvest in Saskatchewan. He also worked in the logging industry in Whatcom County and moved to Clallam County where he married Anne Julia Tuchopski and 1940. In addition to logging, her worked as a pile driver on bridge construction and for the Department of Natural Resources at the Clallam Bay Honor Camp. He retired from the Clallam County Road Department in 1973. Mr. Hanowell was a member of the Port Angeles Masonic Lodge No. 69 F. and A.M. He was active in the York Rite. He enjoyed all outdoor activities. He shared fish and garden produce with friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife Anne; and son Paul Hanowell; two daughters, Mary Anne Huffman of Port Angeles and Kathryn Hanowell McMurry of Everson; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Marie and brother Walter Hanowell of Nooksack and sister-in-law Cleta Hanowell of Nooksack, who died the same day. A Masonic memorial service was held Saturday at Port Angeles.

HANOWELL, Kendahl - A memorial service for Kendahl Marie Hanowell, 2, of Sumas will be at 2 p.m. today at Hopewell Grange. Kendahl died of leukemia Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997. She was born June 19, 1995, to Troy and Brandi Bartel Hanowell in Bellingham. HANOWELL, Percy T., age 44 years, passed away at a Seattle hospital, Friday, July 23, (1948). Mr. Hanowell was a farmer and cannery worker residing at Route 2 Everson. HANOWELL, Marie K., age 93, of Nooksack, passed away Sunday, August 28, (1966). She had been a resident of the Nooksack area for the past 45 years. Surviving are four sons, Paul, Cleveland, Ohio; Fred, in Germany; Ernest, Port Angeles, and Walter, of Nooksack. Also 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, Tuesday, August 30 at 2 p.m. Burial to follow in the Nooksack Cemetery.

HANOWELL, Walter S., age 76, of Nooksack, died July 9, 1988, in a Bellingham nursing home. Mr. Hanowell was self-employed as an electrician until his retirement. He came to Whatcom County from Lynn Valley, British Columbia, in 1918. He married his wife Cleta, in Nooksack on March 3, 1934. He was a member of the Everson-Nooksack volunteer fire department for over 30 years. He was a member of Disciples of Amateur Radio Fellowship (ham radio #W7ANK) and a mandolin player for a county bluegrass band called "The Nooksack Valley Boys." Walter and Cleta had been chosen grand marshals with four others of the grand parade of this year's Everson Good Ole Days Summer Festival. Besides his wife, of the family home, he is survived by three sons, Robert Hanowell of Seattle, Walter (Stan) Hanowell of Arlington, and Jerry Hanowell of Clarkston; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; a brother, Ernest and his wife Anne of Port Angeles; a niece, Mary Ann and family, and a nephew, Paul and his wife Billie and family, all of Port Angles; a niece, Kathryn Hanowell and her husband Tim McMurry of Everson; and lifelong friend, Margaret McCaffery of Cleveland, Ohio and Nooksack. Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 13, at 1 p.m. in Nooksack Cemetery with Rev. Alan Shore officiating. Services were under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

HANOWELL, William J., age 79 of Nooksack passed away in a local hospital Friday, Feb. 10, (1961) Following an extended illness. He had been a resident of Whatcom County since 1905 and is survived by his wife, Rhoda Ann at home, 2 sons George of Nooksack, Charles of Sumas, 1 daughter, Mrs. Daisy Barr of Mt. Vernon, also 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 son, Percy preceded him in death in 1948. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

HANRAHAN, Francis Gene, age 66, passed away in a local nursing home Sunday, December 13, 1981. Former resident of Edmonds, he resided in Bellingham and leaves to survive 2 brother, Russell Hanrahan of Lynden & Michael Hanrahan of Washington; 1 nephew, Jim Hanrahan of Bellingham. Service arrangements were held by Veroske, Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

HANRAHAN, Russell, age 69, of 1506 E. Maplewood, formerly of Anchorage, AK, passed away Sunday, March 1, (1987). Mr. Hanrahan had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 6 years & was a retired brick layer. Was a member of the Bellingham Elks Club BPOE 194, past president of the Brick Layers Union in Anchorage, AK. He leaves to survive, his wife Jeannette of the home; 2 sons, James & wife Debrah of city & Dennis & wife Laura of Anchorage, AK; brother Mike of Tacoma; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild. HANSARD, John W., age 70, of Bellingham, passed away in a local hospital, Monday, January 16, (1950). Mr. Hansard had resided in this community for the past 62 years and had for many years been employed with the Bellingham Tug & Barge as a cook. Deceased was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Bellingham Lodge No. 493; and leaves to survive one sister, Mrs. Helen O'Brien, of Lynden, with whom he had for many years resided; one brother, Ted, of Elko, Nevada; two nieces, Mrs. Vivia Guckert, of Lynden, and Mrs. Frances Harris, of Elko, Nevada; two nephews, Edmund Basford, of Okinawa, and Evern O'Brien, of Los Angeles, Calif. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Mr. George Grant, Thursday, January 19, at 1:30 p.m. Cremation.

HANSCOM, Ralph Burton, age 73 years, of Route 2, Ferndale, passed away at a local hospital Saturday, September 13, (1947) following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of the Ferndale district for eighteen years and was a member of the Gulf Grange. Survivors include the widow, Norma; a sister, Edna May Hanscom; one brother, Guy, and two nieces, all of Lewiston, Maine. Funeral services will be conducted at the Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale, Tuesday, September 16, at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. G. Albertson officiating. Cremation will follow.
