HANBLOOM, Bert, age 92 of 2215 Elm St., passed away Thursday, April 24, (1975). He had been a resident of this community for many years. He was a retired pharmacist for Owl Pharmacy and a former owner of Herald Pharmacy. He had been a surgeons assistant in Russia during WWI, was a 50 year member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44 F&AM, was a longtime member of Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7 American Legion, past member of Sigma Chi fraternity at the University of Washington. Surviving 2 brothers, Douglas of Seattle and Howard in California; 1 niece in California. Funeral services Friday May 2 at 10:30 a.m. [at Jones Funeral Home with burial in Bay View Cemetery.]HANBLOOM, Charles James, aged 38 years, passed away at his home, 2804 Cornwall Avenue, Thursday, December 23, (1943). Mr. Hanbloom was a retired salesman and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving relatives are the widow, Millie L. at home; three sons, Bert of this city, Howard G. and Dr. Douglas C. at Seattle; one sister, Mrs. Selma Parmentier, Los Angeles and a granddaughter, Charlotte at Seattle. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth.
HANBLOOM, Minnie L., age 89, passed away at her home in the Mt. Baker Apts., Tuesday, February 17, (1948). Mrs. Hanbloom had been a resident of this community for the past forty years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving relatives are three sons, Bert B., of Bellingham, Howard G., of Long Beach, Calif., and Dr. Douglas C., of Seattle, and one granddaughter, Charlotte Hanbloom of Long Beach, Calif. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. Ivan B. Bell, Saturday, February 21, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
HANCOCK, Charles H., age 76, passed away at 3200 18th St., Monday, July 23, (1956). Mr. Hancock had resided in this community for the past 45 years and before his retirement had been a long time employe of the Olympic Portland Cement Co. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and leaves to survive his widow, Carrie, at home; four step-sons, Lee and Roy Bauter, both of Bellingham, Harlan and Clarence Johnson, also of Bellingham; three step-daughters, Mrs. Irma Sande, Mrs. Ada Hopcroft and Mrs. Eva Wyman, all of Bellingham; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Capt. J. Sexton Johanson of the Salvation Army, Thursday, July 26, at 3:30 p.m. Cremation.
HANCOCK, Dale R., 31, of 1227 Lakeview St., died Wednesday (Sept. 30, 1987). Hancock was a lifelong resident of Bellingham. Survivors include his parents, Stanley and Evelyn Hancock of Bellingham; a sister, Mildred Alspach of Seattle; a brother, Steven of Effort, Pa.; four nephews, two nieces, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Private family graveside services will be at Greenacres Memorial Park with the Rev. Gary Brice of Geneva Community Church officiating.
HANCOCK, Emma, age 85, who resided at 1415 J St., passed away in a local hospital Fri. Jan. 20th, (1978). She had been a resident of B'ham. for the past 37 years & belonged to the Order of Eastern Star & was Past Worthy Matron 1920, a Charter Member of White Shrine & Worthy High Princess, B'ham. Past Noble Grand Rebekah Lodge & Pythian Sisters & was a former LPN at Whatcom Co. Hospital. She leaves to survive her husband, William J. Hancock; 1 son, Quentin Pete Peterson both of B'ham. 10 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren & great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tues. Jan. 24th at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home, with Father J. Barrett Corrigan officiating. Interment to follow in Greenacres Cemetery under the direction of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.
HANCOCK, Mary C., 3200 18th St., age 79, passed away Sunday, June 12, (1966). Mrs. Hancock was born in New Hampshire, and had resided in this community the past sixty-four years. She is survived by three sons, Lee and Roy Bauter both of this city; Clarence (Bud) Johnson, City; three daughters, Mrs. Irma Sand; Mrs. Ada Hopcroft and Mrs. Eva Wyman, all of this city; twelve grandchildren and twenty-eight grandchildren. Services will be conducted by Rev. Paul Cantelon Tuesday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, followed by Cremation.
HANCOCK, William John, age 57 of Haines, Alaska, passed away in a local rest home Saturday, July 11, (1964) following a brief illness. Mr. Hancock was employed by the Haines High School as Head Custodian. He was a life member of the Haines Elks Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hancock of Haines, Alaska; one son, William Hancock of White Horse, Yukon Territory; 1 daughter, Mrs. Violet May Richards of Victoria, B.C.; 3 brothers, Ralph of Sacramento, and Charles and Art, both of Cove, Oregon; also 2 grandchildren. HANCOCK, William John, age 81 who resided at 1415 'J' Street, passed away in a local hospital, Sunday, August 23, 1981. HAND, Esther Ellen - A service for Esther Ellen Hand of Ferndale will be at 1 p.m. Monday at United Church of Ferndale with the Rev. Richard Wyanski officiating. Mrs. Hand died at home Thursday, Jan 25, 1996. She was 87. Born Oct. 31, 1908 in Luther, Okla. to Henry and Nora Catron, she moved with her family to Independence, Kan. in 1919. That's where she met and married Paul Hand in 1927. Eight years later, they moved to Ferndale where they lived and farmed on Paradise Road for 60 years. Mrs. Hand enjoyed gardening, family and friends. A lifelong Democrat, she was active in Country Cousins, Eastern Star No. 223, United Methodist Church and Ferndale Senior Center. She also was a Rainbow Mother Adviser. Survivors include her husband of Ferndale; daughter Sherry Cline of Ferndale; son Gary Hand of Ferndale; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister Nora Mae Smith of Independence; and other relatives. She was born May 19, 1894 in New Jersey. She was a member of the community for the past 20 years and was active in the First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by 2 sons, Leon of Bellingham and Howard F. of Lake Bay, Wash., 1 daughter, Mrs. Betty Fulton of Bothell, Wash.; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Wed. Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Cremation Greenacres Memorial Park, with inurnment in Acacia Cemetery, Seattle.
HAND, Paul Raymond completed his life journey at the age of 89 on August 13, 1998. Paul was born January 3, 1909 in Neodosha (sic), KS to Hallett and Lillie (Briscoe) Hand. Paul married Esther Ellen Catron in 1927 in Independence, KS. They moved to Ferndale in 1935 where they lived and farmed on the Paradise Road for more than sixty years. Paul loved his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had many friends through F&AM, Lodge 264 and membership at the United Church of Ferndale. The door was always open to family, friends, and neighbors, especially when his corn was in season. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther in 1996. Remembering Paul are daughters Sherry Cline; son and wife Gary and Marta Hand all of Ferndale; grandchildren, Linda Cline of Monroe, Jon Cline of Birch Bay, Lorenda and Steve Wiedner of Fairfax, VA, Brad and Kerry Hand of Ferndale, great-granddaughters Allison and Elizabeth Hand; great-grandson Tobin Wieder; other relatives and friends. A private burial was held Tuesday, August 18, at Woodlawn Cemetery. A celebration of Paul's life will be held Saturday, August 22, 1998, 1 p.m. at the United Church of Ferndale with Pastor Heather Mordhorst officiating. Arrangements by Moles Funeral Home.

Fayette of Ferndale, Catherine Dunn of Forbestown, CA, Deborah Hollingsworth of Bellingham; brothers, Thomas Fee of Sun River, OR, Gary Fee of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband George F. Handel in October, 1984. Mrs. Handel was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, where she met and married George F. Handel. They moved to San Jose in 1968 and then to Ferndale, WA in 1977. She was a devout Catholic with strong traditional beliefs. She loved her family; enjoyed embroidery, and Bingo. Visitation will be Thursday, June 26, 1997, from 12 to 5:00 p.m. at Moles Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 27, 1997, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 14th & Knox in Bellingham. The Reverend Gary Morelli celebrant. HANDEL, George F., 1277 Deercreek Drive, Ferndale, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 1984) at his home. He was 64. He was born April 10, 1920 in San Francisco, Calif. He had been a resident of Ferndale for the past eight years. Prior to that he was a longtime resident of San Francisco. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ferndale and was a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, three sons, three daughters, one brother, three sisters, three grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Vigil services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Moles Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Surviving are his wife, Nelda; two sons, Bert and wife Margo Handerson of Blaine, Bryan and wife Rosemary Handerson of Everson; one daughter, Jeanette and husband Jack Whitman of Everson; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irma Skillman of Bellingham; a half-sister, Phyllis Young of Grants Pass, Ore.; and a half-brother, Keith Dindinger of San Jose, Calif. HANDERSON, Nelda - The memorial service for Nelda "Nellie" Handerson, 76, of 6626 Goodwin Road, Everson, will be at 2 p.m. today at Nooksack Valley Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. The remains will be cremated. Mrs. Handerson died Saturday (Aug. 4, 1990) at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus of a stroke. She was born Nelda Swanson on April 30, 1914, in Clearbrook, and lived all her life in Whatcom County. She married Bert Handerson on Feb. 8, 1933. He died in 1988. The Handersons worked for many years in the restaurant business, owning and operating Handerson's Cafe in Sumas in the 1960s. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Survivors include Bert and Bryan Handerson, both of Everson; a daughter, Janette Witman of Everson; two sisters, Edna Maleng of Bellingham and Mabel Jordan of Seattle; a brother, Don Swanson of Bellingham; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. HANDEYSIDE, Lucia Medora - Vigil prayer services for Lucia Medora Handeyside, 93, 1509 E. Victor St., will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Moles Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Buckalew officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said by Buckalew at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Burial will be in Lummi Island Cemetery. Mrs. Handeyside died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 1987) in Bellingham. She was born Sept. 30, 1893, on Lummi Island, and was a resident of Whatcom County all her life. She was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church on the Lummi Indian Reservation and was a Lummi Elder. Mrs. Handeyside was the last survivor of the Frederick Lane family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence A. Handeyside, in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Charles O. Patton of Seattle and Craig A. Patton of Concrete; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives Arrangements are by Moles Funeral Home.
HANDFORD, Norman Anderson died of a stroke Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997. He was 85. A private service will be held. Born March 6, 1912, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., he was raised and graduated from high school in Fallon, Nev. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Handford served in the Signal Corps for more than three years. He received training in electronics in Chicago and worked as an electrician in Stockton and San Jose, Calif. Mr. Hanford was a 50-year member of IBEW Local No. 332 of San Jose. After retiring, he lived in Paola, Kan., Stockton and Bellingham. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball, hunting, skeet shooting, fishing and golfing. Mr. Handford was preceded in death by a sister, Fern Miller. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Martha, daughter Donna Lane of Bellingham, son William Bretz of Albuquerque, N.M., sisters Bertha Kirn of Fallon and Helen Montgomery of Santa Margarita, Calif., six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. HANDLEY, Clyde E. - Funeral services for Clyde E. Handley, 89, of Bellingham will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Handley died Friday (Feb. 9, 1990). Born on April 28, 1900, in Ashland, Ky., Mr. Handley was a Bellingham resident since 1911. He was employed as an auto mechanic for many years, worked as a commercial fisherman and was a mink rancher later in life. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 194. Mr. Handley was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Handley; a son, Dennis Handley; four sisters and four brothers. Survivors include a sister, Edith Christiansen of Renton; a daughter-in-law, Bernice E. Handley of Bellingham; and two grandsons. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

HANDLEY, John F., age 88 years, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, December 30, (1948). Mr. Handley came to Bellingham in 1911 and was a sawyer and in later life a farmer. He was a member of the Methodist Church. His survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Charles Robinette, Mrs. Edith A. Christensen, and Mrs. Soren Thiel, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Elizabeth Millis, Seattle; four sons, Joseph F., Clyde E., Leslie D. Handley, of Bellingham, and Evart A. HANDY, Ada E. (Forthun), age 83 of Lynden, died at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden on Monday, Nov. 3, 2003. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1:15 p.m. in Lakeside Cemetery followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden with Rev. Bill VandenBos officiating. A lifetime county resident, Ada was the daughter of Robert A. and Maude (Rarick) Kirkman and was born in the VanBuren area on February 7, 1920. She was married to LeRoy Forthun in 1942 and following his death in 1962 was married to William Handy in October 1966. A homemaker, Ada was a member of the Nooksack Valley Assembly of God Church and the Friendly Neighbor Club in the VanBuren area. She was also preceded by her husband William Handy in 1980 great-granddaughter Tylee Altona sister Margaret Hinton and brother Herbert Kirkman. Ada is survived by her son Mike Forthun and wife Joanne of Mt. Vernon stepsons Lee Handy and wife Lois of Everson, Roy Handy and wife Kimberly and Lyle Handy and wife Brenda of Springfield, MO. and Ross Handy and wife Becky of Ferndale sisters Florence Forthun of Everson and Elsie Kieneker of Camano Island and other relatives.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lemley Chapel. Burial will follow at the Saxon Cemetery in Acme. Mr. Handy was born Feb 17, 1921 to William and Mabel Belles Handy in Sedro-Woolley. He graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in World War II in Africa and Italy. He married Virginia Harkness on March 4, 1946, in Acme. He worked as a logger, farmer, house mover and at National Frozen Foods in Burlington before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed reading, gardening and swimming. Mr. Handy was a member of the Samish Valley Grange, the Teamsters union, the George Baldridge American Legion Post and had attended Acme Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by brother Richard Handy. Survivors include his wife of the family home; sons Allen Handy Jr. of Bellingham and Frank Handy of Burlington; daughter Laura Handy of Seattle; brothers William Howard Handy, Ken Handy and Robert Handy, all of Sedro-Woolley and George Handy of Clear Lake; sister Barbara Eaton of Sedro-Woolley; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Minnesota [Feb. 6, 1895], Mr. Handy had been a Whatcom County resident for the past 84 years & for many years did custom baleing & feed grinding in Whatcom County. He is survived by a son, Dr. Lyman Handy & his wife Lenore of Fullerton, Calif.; 2 daughters, Elizabeth Handy of Lynden & Mrs. Ruth & husband Warren Hughes of Arlington; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lero (sic) Pittman of Lynden; and was also preceded by a son, William in 1980. HANDY, Emma, age 80 years, of Nooksack, passed away at her home Wednesday, April 14, (1948) following a lingering illness. She had been a resident of the Nooksack district for the past fifty-eight years. Mrs. Handy is survived by her husband, Fred; five daughters, Mrs. Winter Medcalf, of Bremerton, Mrs. Alfred Nelson and Mrs. Oscar Olin, both of Lynden, Mrs. Hugo Johnson, of Port Angeles, and Mrs. Perry Hanowell, of Nooksack; three sons, Earl and Oscar, of Nooksack, and Jack, of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Kate Carman, of Nooksack; one brother, Joseph Bulmer, of Bellingham; also twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home at Sumas on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. with George Weston, of Everett, officiating. Final resting place, Nooksack Cemetery.
HANDY, Floyd - A private family service was held at 2 p.m. at Lynden Cemetery on Jan. 6, for Floyd Handy, of 1637 Haveman Rd. Mr. Handy passed away in a Bellingham hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1989, at the age of 85. He was born in Lynden on August 3, 1903, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Handy. He was a lifetime resident of the community and very active at the Lynden Senior Center. A memorial service was held there on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. Mr. Handy leaves to survive his wife, Irma, of the family home; and two nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Warren, Happy and Curly, and a sister, Mabel. Arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home at Sumas with Rev. Ben Davis officiating. Interment Nooksack Cemetery.
HANDY, Iris A., 82, of 102 Shuksan St., Everson, died Dec. 21, 1994 in Veneta, Ore. Mrs. Handy was born March 3, 1912 in Ferndale to Wilbur and Augusta Staglund Estes. She was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Custer. Mrs. Handy was married April 20, 1929 to William T. Handy, who preceded her in death in November 1993. She loved to read and was an avid gardener and traveler. Survivors include daughter Verle I. and husband Charles Petrie of Veneta; son Ronald J. Handy and wife Jean of Everson; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Ross of Edmonds; numerous other relatives. Graveside services were held Friday in Enterprise Cemetery with Rev. Carl O. Fischer officiating. Arrangements were made by Moles Funeral Home, Ferndale.
HANDY, Irma B. - Longtime Lynden resident Irma B. Handy, age 75, 1367 Havemen Rd., Lynden, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital's Main Campus on Thursday, Aug. 2, 1990. Irma was born on August 21, 1914 in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of Gabor and Mary Durko. She came to Whatcom County from Spokane in 1938. A homemaker, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 1989. She is survived by three brothers, Robert Durko of Dayton, Ohio, and John and Louis Durko of Englewood, Ohio; a sister, Mary Leinger of Englewood, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. No funeral services were conducted. Her ashes will be interred in Lynden Cemetery. Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

Mr. Handy passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, (1985). He had been a lifetime Whatcom County resident and served during WWI with the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the American Legion. He was married to Mildred Elizabeth Germain Dec. 3, 1919 in Nooksack. He is survived by his wife Mildred, two daughters, Ellen Morrell and husband Floyd Porter of Bellingham and Arvilla and husband James Roughton of Alderwood Manor, and one son, Marlowe and wife Ellen Handy of Sumas. There are six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home.

HANDY, Marlowe Earl, 63, of 510 Lawson, Sumas, passed away Monday May 27, 1991, at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus in Bellingham. He was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Nooksack to Earl and Mildred Handy. Mr. Handy was a past member of Sumas Fire Department and a member of Sumas Post 212, American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying golf, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of the family home; two sons, Mark Handy of Bellingham and Garry Curtiss of Juneau, Alaska; three daughters, Lynn Bezona of Ferndale, Linda Hahn of Bellingham and Debbie Noble of Ferndale; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Morrell Porter of Bellingham and Arvilla Roughten of Mountlake Terrace; and his mother, Mildred E. Handy of Ferndale. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Sumas Christian Reformed Church, 3rd and Sumas Avenue, Sumas, with Pastor Earl Crouse officiating. Interment will follow at Greenacres Memorial Park, Ferndale. Arrangements were made by Greenacres Funeral Home.

Angeles, Mrs. Alfred Nelson, of Lynden, Mrs. Oscar Olin and Mrs. Dolly Hanowell, both of Everson. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Dr. W. Carl Calhoun Wednesday, February 17 at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.
HANDY, Ruth Ellen, age 66, of Lynden, passed away at her home suddenly, Thursday, August 18, (1949). Miss Handy had been a resident of Lynden for the past 37 years and was a charter member of the Lynden Baptist Church. Surviving relatives include one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Poole, of Lynden, and one brother Richard Roland, of Seattle; five nieces and nephews. HANDY, Walter Mervin, age 51, of Route 3, Lynden, passed away at a local hospital, Friday, April 14, (1950) following a short illness. He had been a resident of the Lynden district for duration of his life and was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include two brothers, Floyd V. and Warren R., both of Lynden, Route 3. Funeral services will be conducted, Monday, April 17, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden with the Rev. Ross Chittum officiating. Interment in Lynden Cemetery.
HANDY, Warren R. - Lifetime county resident Warren R. Handy, age 87, of 8611 Depot Rd., Lynden died in Bellingham on Monday, July 6, 1987. Mr. Handy was born in Lynden on Jan. 14, 1900, and was the son of Floyd and Elizabeth Handy. Warren's parents moved to the Lynden area from Minnesota in 1891 and in 1902 purchased a farm on the Haveman Road that is still owned by his brother, Floyd. Mr. Handy drove a team of logging horse for a number of years and then was employed at Kulp's Service Station in Lynden. Later, he drove truck for the Grange Supply. He was a avid local sports fan and played baseball for the Delta Grange and also umpired for many local leagues. At the age of 42, he joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II. For 60 years he was a member of the Northwood and then Delta Granges and while at Delta served as master, assistant steward, gatekeeper and was a member of the Executive Committee and had served as a captain of many degree teams. He was a regular pool player at Lynden Community Center. He is survived by his brother, Floyd of Lynden and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by two young brothers, a third brother, Walter Handy; and two sisters, Mabel and Jenny. A memorial service was held at the regular [meeting?] of the Delta Grange on Friday, July 17, at 8 p.m. with the Chaplain Emma Geiger officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.

A life time Whatcom County resident, Mr. Handy had been a driver for Milky Way for 36 years prior to his retirement. A member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer, Mr. Handy served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was also a member of the Hopewell Grange and was married to Ada Forthun on Oct. 1, 1966. Besides his wife Ada, he is survived by 4 sons, Lee Handy of Sunnyside, WA; Roy of Nooksack; Lyle of Springfield, MO; Ross of Nooksack; a step-son Mike Forthun of Marysville; father Clarence Handy of Lynden and mother Lillian Ramsey, of Lynden, 3 grand children; a brother Lyman Handy of Los Angeles, CA; 2 sisters Miss Elizabeth Handy of Yakima and Mrs. Ruth Hughes of Arlington, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral will be conducted Monday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at the Lynden Assembly of God Church with Reverends Donald R. and Coral Hammon officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Services under the direction of The Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1909 in Chetek, Wis., to Carol Wilbur and Dora Belle Handy and was a resident of Whatcom County since 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Handy, whom he married April 20, 1929, owned and operated a farm on the Grandview Road. Mr. Handy also drove school bus for the Ferndale School District for 17 years. He belonged to Ferndale Lodge No. 264, F.&A.M. Survivors include wife, Iris A. Handy of Everson; son, Ronald Hancy and wife Jean of Everson; daughter, Verle and husband Charles Petrie of Veneta, Ore.; three sisters, Gladys Wilson of Snoqualmie, Arlene Handy of Crescent City, Calif., and Georgiana Smith of Port Gamble; brother, Ernest Handy of Friday Harbor; and six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held on Nov. 30, at Enterprise Cemetery with Rev. Carl O. Fischer officiating. Arrangements were made by Moles Funeral Home of Ferndale.
HANDYSIDE, Lawrence A. (Larry), age 79 of Concrete passed away Fri., May 19, 1978. Mr. Handyside had lived in concrete for the past year and had previously had lived in Whatcom County for 10 years. He was a World War I and World War II Navy Veteran and a member of the Streets Pike Post No. 9474, VFW, at Custer, and the Kulshan Post No. 154, American Legion at Ferndale. He is survived by his wife Lucy, 4 sons, Roger Handyside and Lawrence Handyside both of Seattle, Craig Patton of Cedar Grove, Charlie Patton of Seattle. A brother John Handyside and a sister Kathleen Rock both in Wisconsin, 9 grandchildren. Vigil services will be held in Moles Funeral Home Mon. May 22nd, at 8 p.m. with funeral services in Moles Funeral Home Tues. May 23rd at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lummi Island Cemetery.
HANER, Alma G., age 89 of 2656 MacKenzie Rd., passed away in a local hospital Monday Dec. 16, 1991. A life time resident of Bellingham, and she enjoyed gardening and knitting. She is survived by 3 sons: Gregory Haner of Acme, WA, Malcolm Haner of Bellingham, WA, Douglas Haner of Edmond, WA; also 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in Saxon Cemetery near Wickersham. The Rev. Gene Bradbury will officiate. Mrs. Haner died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1993, at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness. She was 74. Born Sept. 30, 1919, to George and Florence Hess in Caro, Mich., the family moved to Everson. A graduate of Mount Baker High School, she married Robert A. "Bob" Haner in Mount Vernon in 1941 and lived in Wickersham ever since. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gertrude Hedburg. Survivors include her husband of the family home; daughters Phyllis Kosa of Soap Lake and Frances Wasson of Hickson; son Robert Haner of Wickersham; sisters Esther LaFave, Rachel Hannah, Eva Jane Holland and Alice Ligocki, all of Whatcom County, and Ruth Harris; brother Jack Hess; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
HANER, Gregory William, age 66 of 267 Valley Hwy., Wickersham, Washington, passed away at his residence on Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Mr. Haner had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 40 years, and worked as a research laboratory technician at Washington State University. He is survived by his wife, M. Joan Haner; son Michael and wife Paul Haner of Acme; daughter Jill and husband Charlie McLachlan of Everson; sons Philip and wife Greet Haner of Lyle, WA; Russell Haner of Hawaii; five grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews. Graveside services Tuesday Nov. 10, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wickersham Cemetery located at the family home, officiated by Reverend Sharon Hare. Born in Wickersham, WA Aug. 8, 1902 to Daisy Banks-Haner and Phillip Sheridan-Haner, pioneers in Whatcom Co. He graduated from Whatcom High School, then The University of Washington. Member of TAU BETA PHI Engineering honorary & TAU KAPPA EPSILON fraternity. Employed by City of Seattle & State of WA, involved in the designs of the Aurora Bridge and Deception Pass Bridge. Worked for the Corps of Engineers in Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA and Providence, RI. Commission as major, U.S. Army. Supervised the building of 19 airports in South America to support the North African Campaign. After WWII, left government service as Colonel. Established a consulting Engineering Firm of Haner Ross Sporseen in Portland, OR, retiring in 1972. Lifetime member of American Consulting Engineers Council and American Society of Civil Engineers. Survived by his wife of 61 years Hazel Kenney-Haner. Daughter and Son-in-Law Konlyn and Victor Smith; 3 grandchildren Jared and Matthew Smith and Tracey Haas. and 2 great grand daughters, all in Seattle. Also surviving are 2 brothers Lawrence Haner of Gaithersberg, MD and Robert Haner of Wickersham, WA. Family services at Saxon Cemetery Whatcom County.

HANEY, Alvin L., age 51, of Talent, OR, passed away in Oregon, August 1, 1988. He was born January 8, 1937 in Macomb, IL and had been a resident of Bellingham. Mr. Haney worked as a Postal Clerk for 19 years, he was active in Boy Scouts of America where he was Scout Master of Troop No. 6 in Bellingham, and also a member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 194 in Bellingham. He is survived by 2 sons, Brian Haney of Bellingham & Mark Haney & wife Melissa of Talent, OR; 1 granddaughter Lindsay Haney; 2 brothers, Gilbert Haney of Ventura, CA & Gerald Haney of Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews & other relatives. Visitation hours will be Thursday, August 4, between 6-8 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home, corner of Northwest & Axton Rds. HANEY, Elsie Adkinson, age 82, of 2400 Samish Way, passed away December 24, 1989. Born Oct. 19, 1907, in Springfield, CO, moving to Maple Falls in 1943. Her husband Wilbur Adkinson died in December 1954, then she moved to Colorado. Married Roy Haney in Colorado and he died in 1970, moving back to Bellingham in 1972. Mrs. Haney was a member of the Geneva Community Church and the Geneva Othopedic Assoc. Her brother Ivan Konkel preceded her in death in 1949 in Colorado. She is survived by 3 sons, Ray and Lee Otten both of Bellingham and Gene Otten of Portland, OR; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; 1 sister Ruth Springer of Bothell, WA. Memorial services will be Friday December 29, 1989 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary L. Grafwallner officiating. Private interment Greenacres Memorial Park.
