HAMLEY, Bertha, age 70 of Blaine passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Dec. 4, (1955) following a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband, Charles A. Hamley, Blaine; one daughter, Mrs. Lela Hawkins of Blaine, one son Carroll Hamley of Wrangell, Alaska; 6 grandchildren, a sister, Alma Dierke of Blaine, one brother, Henry E. Clausen of Olympia, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. from the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine with Rev. Evan David officiating. Interment Blaine Cemetery.

HAMLEY, Carroll, age 69 of Harrison St., Blaine died Friday June 12, 1981. He was a WWII Army Veteran & was employed as a County worker in Blaine. He is survived by his wife Margaret of Seattle; 2 sons, C. J. Hamley, Jr. of Snohomish, Les of Juneau, Alaska, Lan Hamley of Wrangell, Alaska; a sister Lela Hawkins of Blaine, 6 grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Mr. Hamley was a charter member of the Pioneers of Alaska. Funeral services will be held graveside, Tues. June 16, 1981 in the Blaine Cemetery. HAMLIN, Carl, age 64 years, of Route 1, Ferndale, passed away Sunday after a short illness. Survivors are his wife, Eva Harlow Hamlin, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Minta Williamson, Lynden, and Mrs. Ruby Read, Bellingham; his mother, Mrs. Emma Hamlin, Bellingham; a brother, Hobart Hamlin, Seattle; two sisters, Mrs. Dan F. North, Bellingham, and Miss Ruby Hamlin, Seattle, and four grandchildren. Service will be conducted Wednesday, July 18 at 2 p.m. in the Knapp and Knapp funeral home in Lynden by Rev. James Martyn Wilson. Interment in Enterprise Cemetery.

HAMLIN, Charles, age 81, who resided at 2720 Sterling Dr., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, (1961) following an extended illness. Mr. Hamlin resided in Bellingham the past five years and was a retired farmer. He leaves to survive his brother, Joseph H., in Florida; two nieces, Mrs. Pearl Johnson, Bellingham and Mrs. Laura Vlahos, Port Angeles. Rev. Walter R. Naff will officiate at the funeral service on Monday, Dec. 18, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home. Interment Bay View Cemetery.

HAMLIN, Ellen Shirley Scutvick, 89, 2839 Cedarwood Ave., died at St. Joseph Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1992. A memorial gathering will take place, but has not been scheduled. Born Nov. 13, 1902, in Lawrence, Wash., to Martin and Anne Scutvick, she was a lifelong resident of Whatcom County. She enjoyed sports, flowers, gardening and following world events on television. Mrs. Hamlin was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Roy Hamlin. Survivors include daughter Anita Gay of Snohomish and Shirlee Nutter of Bellingham; brother John Scutvick of Bellingham; sisters Helen McDowell of Bellingham and Peggy Sygitowicz of Clipper; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Jerns LeVeck Chapel and Crematorium.

HAMLIN, Emma M., age 88, of 1520 Grant Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 9, (1949). Mrs. Hamlin had resided in this community for the past 47 years and was a member of the Congregational church, the Plymouth Circle of that church and the Rebekah lodge of Custer. Surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Dan F. North and Miss Ruby Hamlin, of Bellingham; one son, Hobart, of Libby, Montana; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun, Thursday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Final resting place, Enterprise Cemetery.

HAMLIN, Genevieve (Eva) 83, of 1817 Knox, passed away Monday, September 26, (1966). A resident of Whatcom County the past sixty years, she was a graduate of Bellingham Normal and a former school teacher. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Minta E. Williamson of Lynden, and Mrs. Milton Read of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Austin Arthur of Beaverton, Oregon, and Mrs. Blanche Arthur of Stockton, California; one brother, Jack Harlow of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 28 at 1:30 p.m. in Moles Funeral Chapel, Rev. Richard Stussi officiating. Final resting place Enterprise Cemetery.

HAMLIN, Leona M., who resided 209 Unity Street, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, February 11, 1981. She had been a life time resident of Bellingham and was a retired waitress and motel manager. She leaves to survive her daughter, Lois Woodell and 1 son, Ralph Moore, both of Bellingham; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. HAMLIN, Marie E. "Minnette" age 85, of 503 E. Front St., Lynden, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1989. Mrs. Hamlin was born in Vienna, Austria, on Sept. 2, 1903 and was raised in Europe. She graduated from nurses training in France and was employed as a surgical nurse prior to coming to the United States in the late 1920s. She was married to her husband, Francis, in Washington, D.C., on August 3, 1943; Mr. Hamlin died in 1962. In 1972 she moved to San Jose, Calif. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gabette and husband Larry Andres of Lynden; a son, Dr. Nelson P. Hamlin of Norfolk, Conn.; nine grandchildren; a sister, Lolotte Burrous of Paris; a brother, Sam Egger in Portugal; and numerous other relatives. Funeral services and burial were in Norfolk, Conn., on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Local arrangements were under direction of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

HAMLIN, Martha Jane, age 89, Route No. 1, Marysville, passed away in a Nursing Home in that city Monday, July 6, (1964). Mrs. Hamlin was a resident of this community forty-nine years before moving to Marysville. Survivors are four sons, Roy, city; Harry, George and Ross, all of Darrington; two daughters, Mrs. Maude McCoach, Marysville; Mrs. Rita Constantino, Seattle; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted by Rev. Richard Stussi Wednesday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.

HAMLIN, Roy Earl - A memorial service for Roy Earl Hamlin, 88, who caught the first salmon brought into Fisherman's Cove, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Birchwood Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Timothy Lann officiating. Mr. Hamlin, 2839 Cedarwood Ave., died Saturday in Bellingham. He was born Feb. 5, 1901, in Horatio, Ark., and moved to Bellingham at the age of 1. Mr. Hamlin owned a service station on Holly Street and later hauled logs. He was a member of the Bellingham Sportsman's Club who particularly enjoyed saltwater fishing. He was a member of Birchwood Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Ellen; two daughter, Shirlee Nutter of Bellingham and Anita Gay of Snohomish;; a brother, Ross Hamlin of Darrington; a sister, Rita Johnson of Seattle; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.

HAMLIN, Ruby, age 76, of 1520 Grant St., passed away in a local hospital Friday, June 2, (1961). Miss Hamlin had been a resident of Seattle before moving to Bellingham in 1950, and was a retired R.N., having graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1917, and had been in supervisory positions in several Seattle Hospitals. Surviving relatives include a sister; Mrs. Alma North of Bellingham; a brother, Hobart F. Hamlin of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Miss Kay North and John W. North, both of Bellingham. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where private services will be conducted by Dr. W. Carl Calhoun Tuesday, June 6, at 3:00 p.m. Cremation.

HAMLIN, Winnona A., age 65 of Darrington died May 1st, (1980). She is survived by one son, Dale Hamlin of Darrington, 1 step-daughter Lois Woodell of B'ham. 1 sister, Welda Stenger of Lacey, 2 grandchildren. Memorial services will be Mon., 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Darrington. Arrangements are under the direction of Weller's Funeral Home, Arlington.

HAMLYN, Alice M., age 85 of 1509 E. Victor, passed away Thurs., April 8, (1976). Mrs. Hamlyn had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 15 years. Leaves to survive a brother, Louis Jones of this city and numerous friends including Gunnar Anderson. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home, with Rev. Herbert McLellan officiating. Interment in Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAMMAN, Abraham, age 80 years, 1916 Ellis, passed away at a local hospital Friday, Feb. 6, (1953). Mr. Hamman had been a resident of Bellingham since 1907 and was a retired logger and a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Neely Johns of Tacoma, and Mrs. Margaret Gered of Norwalk, Wis.; five nephews and four nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Peterson, pastor of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, officiating. Cremation.

HAMMEL, Clayton, age 70 of Lynden, Rt. 2 passed away at a local hospital, Monday, May 9, (1955) following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past five years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Sperber of Colville, Wash., Mrs. Clethal Adkins, Marysville; four sons, Lawrence of Van Zandt, Alton of Lynden, Rt. 2, Ralph and LeRoy. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 12, at 11 a.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Interment Marysville Cemetery.

HAMMELL, Alton J. - Funeral services for Alton J. Hammell, age 65, of 5145 Hollingsworth Road, Deming, were conducted on Friday, November 2, at 1 p.m. in the Nooksack Valley Baptist Church with Rev. John Ruhlman officiating. Burial followed in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Hammell, who died suddenly at his home on Monday, October 29, (1979) had been a lifetime county resident. A retired farmer and logger, he was a member of the Jersey Dairy Assn. and had farmed for many years on the East Pole Road before moving to Deming three years ago. He was also a member of the Nooksack Valley Baptist Church and was married to Maude Knight in Ferndale on February 6, 1940. He is survived by his wife, Maude, a son Larry of Laurel, two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte (Gary) VanCleve of Spokane and Mrs. Donna (Ronald) Schencking of Bellingham; eleven grand and four great-grandchildren; and sister, Mrs. Agnes Sperber in Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a son, Darrell in 1965. Services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

HAMMELL, Effie C., age 68, of 2734 Valencia Street, passed away in a local hospital, Sunday, April 14, (1946). Mrs. Hammel had resided in this community for the past 63 years. She was a member of the W.C.T.U., the Ukum-Wekum Club and an attendant of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. Fern Granberg, of Hoquiam; two sons, Marvin C. Hammell, of Bellingham, and Milton C. Hammell, of Hoquiam; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Duprey, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Laura L. Harvey, also of Bellingham; two brothers, Milton C. Bliss, of Bellingham, George H. Bliss, of Los Angeles, seven grandchildren. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. HAMMER, Charles, age 76, of the Finsrud Road, Rt. 2, Everson, passed away at the family home Sunday, Aug. 31, (1952). Mr. Hammer had resided in the county for the last 55 years, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Lawrence, and leaves to survive his widow, Clara, at home; five daughters, Mrs. Esther Roemer, Rt. 2, Everson, Mrs. Ada Goodwin, Port Angeles, Mrs. Gladys Burgess, Deming, Mrs. Hazel Sherwood, Tacoma, and Mrs. Pauline Briggs, Clipper; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one brother, Swan Hammer, Braham, Minnesota, and one sister, Mrs. Esther Larson, Stanchfield, Minn. She was a lifetime member of the community and was a Charter member of the Bellingham Emblem Club No. 489, and also a member of the Ladies Tall Elks. HAMMER, Michael F., age 30, of 2924 Eberly Rd., Bellingham, died Monday Sept. 2, 1991 as the result of an auto accident. Michael was a logger for ALRT Corp. and was known as "The Wood Man" at the Firewood Company. HAMMER, Vernon Russell -- The family of Vernon Russell Hammer, age 61, announces his passing away on Wednesday September 12, 2007 in Nampa, ID after a short bout with cancer. Vernon was born on December 3, 1945 to Howard and Catherine Hammer in Bellingham, Washington. Vernon enlisted in the Army where he served 2 tours in Viet Nam and retired after 20 years of service in 1983. He was a realtor and with his wife owned and operated Scandia Bakery and Lefsa Factory, and a pet salon in Stanwood and later Nampa, Idaho. Vernon was an avid outdoorsman. He loved getting together with his boys and going on "men only" hunting trips and fishing with friends and family. Vernon is survived by his wife Donnita Hammer of Nampa, Idaho; his 3 sons Tony Hammer of Kettle Falls, WA; John Hammer of Puyallup, WA; and Joe Hammer of Seattle, WA; and 2 daughters Laura Rudolph of Nampa, ID and Julie Packer of Nyssa, OR; father Howard Hammer of Stanwood, WA; brother Howard (Buster) Hammer Jr. of Harrison, AR; and sister Judy Johnston of Yuma, AZ and 10 grandchildren. HAMMERS, Louise Garrett, 87, died Saturday in Auburn, Calif. She had been a Bellingham resident for 17 years before moving to Auburn six months ago. Mrs. Hammers was born Oct. 29, 1898, in Missouri. She had been a cashier for 20 years at the First National Bank in Los Altos, Calif. She is survived by a son, William Hammers, of Concord, Calif.; and two daughters, Jane Holmes, of Colfax, Calif., and Evelyn Gautier of Novato, Calif. There will be private memorial services. Burial will be in the Colfax District Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lassila's Sierra Chapel of Colfax.

HAMMERS, Violet "Chris", 81, of Winthrop, a Whatcom County resident for many years who loved outdoor recreation, died in January in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She was born Aug. 17, 1907, at St. Luke's General Hospital in Bellingham and attended the Bellingham school system. Mrs. Hammers was a loving mother who enjoyed people. She often pitched horseshoes, played cards, fished, camped and rode horseback. She and her husband, Jesse "Okie," moved from Bellingham about a decade ado to Winthrop and lived at Rancho Mirage during the winter. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gayle Wilson of Gates, Ore., and Jerry Wilson of Lynnwood; a daughter, Barbara Yelme of Eastern Washington; four step-daughters, Glenda Hammers of Yachats, Ore., Judy Wilson of Lynnwood, Sharon LaLonde of Alaska and Sheila Hammers of Seattle; two step-sons, David Hammers of Bellingham and Danny Hammers of Dallas, Ore.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

HAMMERSCHMIDT, Anthony, age 73, of 920 Eleventh Street, passed away at his home Wednesday, March 14, (1951) following an extended illness. Mr. Hammerschmidt had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 27 years. He was a watchman at the Boom Company and a member of the Catholic Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Hattie; a daughter, Mrs. Anita Dalga, and one sister, Mrs. Alfred Pettersch, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Requiem mass will be said Saturday, March 17, 8:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Father Shaughnessy celebrant officiating. Under the direction of the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home. HAMMERSCHMIDT, Hattie, age 75, who resided at 920 11th Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, April 20, (1957) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Hammerschidt (sic) resided in Bellingham for the past 33 years and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She leaves to survice (sic) one daughter, Mrs. Anita Dalga of Grand Rapids, Mich. Rosary will be recited in the Chapel of the Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. Requiem Mass will be from the Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, April 24, at 9:30 a.m. Interment, Bayview Cemetery.

HAMMES, Jean - A graveside service for Jean Hammes of Bellingham will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Enterprise Cemetery followed by a reception from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Festival Square Clubhouse, 5040 Festival Boulevard, Bellingham. Mrs. Hammes died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. She was 76. Born Oct. 30, 1920, in Ferndale, she grew up in the Custer and Ferndale areas. Mrs. Hammes graduated from Ferndale High School and Western Washington University and attended San Jose State University, Santa Clara University and the University of California. She was a teacher for 17 years in Vancouver, Wash., Hawaii and San Jose. Mrs. Hammes served as a delegate in Model Cities Program for five years, a Whatcom County Senior Services outreach worker for nine years and on the Ferndale Senior Center Jet Oldsters advisory board and on a San Jose city beautification committee. She was a member of Garden City Women's Club, Mount Hamilton Grange, Gulf Grange and Lummi Tribal Sewer Board. Arrangements are by Moles Funeral Home.

HAMMES, William M. of Bellingham died Monday, Aug. 26, 1997. He was 83. His ashes will be placed in Enterprise Cemetery in a private service. A reception will be 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Hall, Kulshan Post 154 in Ferndale. Mr. Hammes lived in Whatcom County since 1975. Survivors include his wife, M. Jean Pratt Hammes; daughters Elaine Hammes of Anchorage, Alaska, and Norma Gold-Hammes and Anita Phagan, both of San Jose, Calif.; brothers Lemuel Hammes of Polson, Mont., and Eugene Hammes of Grass Valley, Calif.; sisters Mary Mercer of Sidney, Mont., and Agnes Sheehan of Boston; five grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. HAMMING, Klaas, age 97 years, of Lynden, passed away at his home Sunday, August 26, (1951) following a lingering illness. Mr. Hamming had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past 21 years, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. P. HAMMING, Tom - Oak Harbor - Funeral services for Tom Hamming, 82, Oak Harbor, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be at Fircrest Cemetery under the direction of Bartleson Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Mr. Hamming and his wife moved to Lynden in 1921, to Arlington in 1929 and to Whidbey Island in 1931. He was a member of Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Wilma Ekkelkamp of Mount Vernon; Mrs. Harriet Maginnis of Reno, Nev., Mrs. Julia Terpstra, Mrs. Mary Ellen Fuller, Mrs. Betty Moore and Mrs. Connie Matthews, all of Oak Harbor; six sons, Kenneth of Grand Rapids, Mich., Jack of Mount Vernon, and Elmer, Thomas Jr., Gordon and Maurice, all of Oak Harbor. Other surviving relatives are two sisters, Mrs. George Bronkema of Lynden and Mrs. Minnie VanHuizen in Michigan; 31 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

HAMMINGH, Adriana, age 74 years, of Rt. 1, Sumas, passed away Thursday, June 20, at home. She had resided in the Sumas district the past 29 years. HAMMINGH, Christine C., 92, 2722 Eldridge Ave., died Thursday (Oct. 17, 1985) in Bellingham. She was born Jan. 8, 1894, in Paddock, Minn. and was a resident of Bellingham for 33 years. She was a member of the Leisure Time Club and the Retired Telephone Pioneers. She also enjoyed dancing and working in the yard. Mrs. Hammingh is survived by four nieces, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the mausoleum in Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAMMON, Denine Rhodes, died Monday, Aug. 1, 1994, of cerebral hemorrhage at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. She was 38. Born March 23, 1956, to Walda and Richard Dean Rhodes in Vallejo, Calif., she lived in Napa Valley until 1964, when the family moved to Guam for five years. A memorial service for Denine "De" Rhodes Hammon, formerly of Bellingham, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Marine Park at the end of Harris Avenue. While in Guam, she began a music career that continued the rest of her life. Her first professional work was singing folk music and writing her own songs. In 1971, the family moved to Bremerton, where she married Paul Hammon in 1974. They lived in Bremerton for two more years before moving to Bellevue. Mrs. Hammon moved to Bellingham in 1977. While in Bellingham, Mrs. Hammon hosted open mikes in many clubs, played in bands and had several of her own bands, including the National Rhodes Band. She played piano and guitar and was lead singer and band leader. Clubs where she appeared include Fast Eddies, Cal's, Peter's Tavern and the Harbor House. Her bands often did benefit concerts for programs for developmentally disabled people, and other charities. Mrs. Hammon moved to Everett about four years ago fro health reasons. Survivors include son Paul John "P.J." Hammon of Bellevue; daughter Lisa Kay Hammon of Bellevue; her mother and father of Boulder City, Nev.; sister Dena Knutsen of Lynnwood; brother Ronald "Ron" Rhodes of Newark, N.J.; and many other relatives.

HAMMOND, Ben F. of 1224 Cornwall Ave., passed away Saturday, January 28, (1956). Mr. Hammond had resided in this community for the past 32 years and was a Safety Examiner and owner of the Bellingham Safety Council. Surviving relatives include one sister, Mrs. Mildred Bennett of Seattle and three nieces. The remains will lie in state for visitation by friends prior to the funeral services which will be conducted by the Rev. Canon E. B. Smith, Friday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. from the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home. Cremation.

HAMMOND, Bertha - Service for Bertha Hammond, 65, 1418 Smith Road, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale. Mrs. Hammond, who died in Bellingham Thursday (March 5, 1964) after and extended illness, had resided in the North Bellingham area for the past 42 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ferndale. She was North Bellingham correspondent for The Herald for 25 years. Surviving are the husband, Frank; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Zeretzke of Mount Vernon and Mrs. Donna Peterson of Gladstone, Ore.; and one son, Lewis of the Congo, Africa. The Rev. Thurman Fuller will officiate at the service, which will be followed by burial in Greenacres Memorial Park.

HAMMOND, Coral V., Rev., age 68, passed away Jan. 6, (1986) in Modesto, CA. Survivors are: Wife, Ernestine Hammond; 3 Daughters, Charlotte Ells, Patricia Freeman & Julie Hammond; 2 Sons, Don Hammond, Coral Hammond Jr.; Sister, Hazel Trippett; & 8 Grandchildren. HAMMOND, Eva M. - A funeral Mass for Eva M. Hammond of Bellingham will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank Schuster officiating. Burial will be Saturday in Spring Creek Cemetery in Kalispell, Mont. Mrs. Hammond died at home Saturday, Feb 12, 2000. She was 84. She was a member of the Kathleen Pruitt Guild of St. Joseph Hospital and the Church of the Assumption. Her husband, James Hammond, died in 1982; a daughter, Patricia Hammond, died in 1980; and a son Robert Hammond, died in 1992. HAMMOND, John, age 83, a resident of the YMCA for the past few years, passed away in a local hospital Friday, Feb. 25, (1955). Mr. Hammond had been a long time resident of Orcas Island before moving to Bellingham, and leaves to survive a granddaughter, Mrs. Leona Hammond in Skagit County. HAMMOND, Richard Earl, age 84 of 1337 State St. passed away in a local hospital Saturday June 15, (1963) following an extended illness. Mr. Hammond had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 55 years and was a retired surveyor. He is survived by his sister-in-law Mrs. Lewis Frazee of Seattle and several nieces. HAMMONS, Mamie G. - A graveside service for Mamie G. Hammons, 74, of Bellingham, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview Cemetery, 2701 Lakeway Drive. Mrs. Hammons died on Nov. 16, 1991, in a local care center. She was born on March 23, 1917, at Wickersham to Gaston and Clara Nelson Trull. She was married to George Hammons and they lived all their married lives in Whatcom and Skagit counties. He died approximately three years ago. She was a member of the Cornwall Church of God. HAMRICK, Patricia A., 51, 2630 Vining Place, died Friday in a local hospital. Mrs. Hamrick was born in Oregon Dec. 4, 1933. She had been employed at the Whatcom County Treasurer's Office as an account clerk for about 3 1/2 years, until illness resulted in her going on leave last November. HAMSTRA, Andrew - Lifetime Lynden resident and dairy farmer, Andrew "Andy" Hamstra died suddenly while on the job for Skookum Chuck Water Association on Friday, June 2, 1989, at the age of 69. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 6, 1989, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ken Havert officiating. Interment preceded at Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Hamstra was born in Lynden on Feb. 10, 1920, to Martin and Maggie Hamstra. He was employed by Lynden Dairy Products until serving during World War II in the Army Corps of Engineers for 3 1/2 years. He then returned to Lynden Dairy Products where he drove truck until the business closed in 1957. He had begun farming and continued to do so until his retirement in 1974. He then became meter reader and maintenance-repair person for Skookum Chuck Water Association. On Dec. 31, 1946 in Seattle he was married to Marilyn Zoet and they resided at 390 E. Wiser Lake Road in Lynden. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the family home; two sons, Bob Hamstra and wife Linda of Everson and Mike Hamstra and wife Penny of Lynden; five daughters, Elaine Rhoades and husband Elmer of Grandville, Mich., Janet Johnson and husband Rick of Prince George, B.C., Mavis Edson and husband Larry of Lahaina Maui, Hawaii, Jill Spoelstra and husband Phil of Sumas and Mary Jane Hamstra of Lynden; four brothers, John of Everett, Martin of New Jersey, Ed of Lynden and Calvin of Vashon Island; four sisters, Nellie Honcoop of Lynden, Emma Banker of Seattle, Margaret Hamstra of Lynden and Henrietta Hamstra of Ferndale; a sister-in-law, Clara Hamstra of Lynden; and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark, in 1978 and a brother, Ben, and a sister, Jeanne De Vries. Services were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

A retired carpenter and farmer, Mr. Hamstra was an avid fisherman and a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church. He was married to Clara Einfield in Lynden on September 6, 1978. He is survived by his wife Clara; a son Kenneth and wife MaryEllen of Lynden; a daughter, Mrs. Gayle and husband Robert DeGroot of Everson; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Nellie Honcoop, Mrs. Jeanne DeVries, and Margaret Hamstra, all of Lynden; Mrs. Emma Banker of Seattle and Henrietta Hamstra of Ferndale; five brothers, John of Everett, Edward and Andrew of Lynden, Martin of Hawthorne, N.J. and Calvin of Vashon Island; two sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. HAMSTRA, Mark Douglas, age 17, of 9764 VanBuren Road, Lynden, were conducted on Friday, July 28 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Vermeer and Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mark, who died on Tuesday, July 25, (1978) was a lifetime resident of the Lynden community and had attended Lynden Christian High School. He was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church and was employed by Martin VandeHoef. Surviving are his parents, Andrew and Marilyn Hamstra; five sisters, Elaine Rhoades of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Janet Johnson of Abbotsford, B.C., Mavis Hamstra and Jill Spoelstra both of Lynden and MaryJane Hamstra at home; two brothers, Robert of Everson and Mike of Lynden; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit J. Zoet of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.

HAMSTRA, Martin, age 86, of Route 1, Sumas, passed away at home Sunday, February 6, (1966). A retired blacksmith, he had made his home in the Lynden area since 1910. He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by his wife, Maggie; 6 sons, John of Seattle, Ben, Edward, and Andrew, all of Lynden, Martin of Hawthorne, New Jersey, and Calvin of Vashon Island; 5 daughters, Mrs. Jeanne DeVries of Sumas, Mrs. Nellie Honcoop, Margaret and Henrietta Hamstra, all of Lynden; and Mrs. Emma Banker of Seattle; a sister Emma Hamstra of Lynden; also 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the Second Christian Reformed Church Wednesday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John DeJong officiating. Burial will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

HAMSTRA, Martin H., 81, a former Lynden resident, died March 20, 1994 in Norwich, N.Y. He was born to Martin and Maggie Hamstra in Zillah on Oct. 27, 1912. The family moved to Lynden that December and Martin attended Lynden Christian School. He later moved to New Jersey, where he met and married Edna Blasberg on Sept. 19, 1936. He spent most of his adult life in New Jersey, where he owned and operated Blasberg's Fruit Farm in Hawthorne, N.J. He is survived by his wife Edna; three sons, Marvin and wife Dorothy, Richard and wife Gayle and Harold and wife Bette; five grandchildren and a great-grandson; two brothers, Ed Hamstra of Lynden and Calvin Hamstra of Anacortes; four sisters, Nellie Honcoop and Margaret Hamstra of Lynden, Emma Banker of Seattle and Henrietta Hamstra of Ferndale; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hamstra and Clara Hamstra of Lynden and Tona Hamstra of Everett. He was preceded by his parents; three brothers, John, Ben and Andrew; and a sister, Jeanne De Vries. A memorial services was held Monday at Midland Park Christian Reformed Church in Hawthorne, N.J. Burial was in Norwich, N.Y.

HAMSTRA, Ymkje, age 89 of Lynden, passed away in a local rest home Wednesday, August 24, (1966). A resident of Lynden since 1939 she was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. Surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Martin Hamstra of Sumas and Mrs. Andrew Hamstra of Grand Rapids, Mich.; also numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church Saturday, August 27 at 2 p.m., Rev. Bernard Byma officiating. Burial will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.
