HALL, Donald E. - Retired Bellingham letter carrier and Christian soldier Donald E. Hall gladly went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 20th, 2003. As he had lived all his life, he left us with grace and good faith, uncomplaining, and affecting everyone around him with caring and love. Born16. 6.1920 in Everett, WA, he most loved his boyhood years growing up in the Deming area by Bell Creek on the homestead of his grandparents, Andrew and Katherine Clausen. He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1939. At the start of WWII, he joined the Navy and served until 1945. He added another two years in the Korean War, 1950-1951. All of his life he served God and his Country with pride and good will. His passing leaves us with one less of "the greatest generation". In 1939 Don was invited to church where he gave his heart to the Lord. There, he also met his future bride Mary Jane Whitehead. Don's life centered on his church and his family. He had boundless energy, loved to work, and make people smile. He enjoyed property on Lummi Island, picking wild blackberries, mowing his lawn, grocery shopping and knew many people by name. Going to God's house and being with his Christian family was where Don loved to be. He gave many years as a board member at Calvary Temple, Bellingham Christian School, and Open Bible Church. He often served as a board member and janitor at the same time. His children, grandchildren and neighborhood kids will remember the funny games and songs he entertained them with. As a Bellingham letter carrier for 30 years, he is still fondly remembered by many as "their favorite mailman". He loved life. Although the last period of his life was hard, it was a great time for expressions of love. Don never gave up. Don's family expresses special appreciation to the staff at Christian Health Care Center in Lynden and Hospice for all their personal love and care. Don leaves to survive his beloved family his wife of 56 years, Mary Jane son Alan Hall, daughter Trish Gustafson and husband Ken, son Scott Hall and wife Cheryl grandchildren Andrew, Lynn, and Michael Gustafson, Mary and Sarah Hall, Elizabeth and Rebekah Hall, and great granddaughter Cassie sister Mary Schock brothers Walter Hall and Rad Hall uncle Alfred Clausen.
