GEPHART, Genevieve, age 65, of 2553 Shallow Shore Road, passed away in a local hospital Monday, Dec. 15, (1958). Mrs. Gephart had resided in this community for the past 42 years and leaves to survive her husband, Thomas H., at home; one son, Ray A. Delcamp, of Bellingham, and two grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERAGHTY, Raymond Thomas, age 15 years, of 2913 Shepardson Street, passed away at a local hospital suddenly Tuesday morning, June 8, (1948). He had been a resident of Bellingham for the past three years, and had just completed his sophomore year at the Bellingham High school. Raymond Thomas was a member of the Model Railroad club, the high school and the Adult Stamp clubs, The Hobby Hive, and also a member of the Nazarene Church. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Elaine Allman; step-father, Maurice Allman; one sister, Maurlaine, all of the home; grandfather, E. A. Peterson, Ferndale; grandmother, Mrs. E. Geraghty, California; his father, Mr. Raymond Geraghty , Alameda, Calif., and many other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 12, within Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home, Rev. Donald B. Kunkle, pastor of the Nazarene Church officiating. Cremation.

GERARD, Bjorn, age 3 months, infant son of Kent and Connie Gerard of 5405 Bell-West Dr., Bellingham passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, (1984). Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Justin; a sister, Misty; paternal grandparents, Howard and Dagny Gerard of Bellingham and maternal grandfather J. B. Thorson of Great Falls, Montana; maternal great-grandfather, Mr. Gunnar Carlson of Bellingham. Christian Prayer Wake services were held Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Services were held Friday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Ritter officiating. Interment was at Greenacres.

GERARD, Caroline Louise, age 72, of 1475 Smith Road passed away at her home Wednesday, Sept. 15, (1954). Mrs. Gerard had resided in this community for the past 67 years and was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. She leaves to survive her husband, Ferdinand F., at home; three sons, Edward F., Howard G., and Paul Gerard, all of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Ashley of Ferndale, and Mrs. Margaret Johnston of Bellingham; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Miss Eleanor Miller of Bellingham. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private Christian Science services will be read Friday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. Cremation.

GERARD, Ferdinand Florian, age 74, passed away at his home 1475 Smith Road Saturday, May 12, (1956). Mr. Gerard had resided in this community for the past 64 years and was the retired owner and manager of Gerard's Gardens. Deceased was a member of Bellingham Lodge No. 194, B.P.O. Elks and leaves to survive three sons, Edward F. of Palo Alto, Calif., Howard G. and Paul F. both of Bellingham; four daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Ashley of Laguna Beach, Calif., Mrs. Margaret Johnston of Bellingham, Mrs. Bernice Menard of Norfolk, Va., and Mrs. Alice Schlagater of Washington, D. C.; 17 grandchildren; one brother, Knuten Gerard of Friday Harbor, Wash.; two sisters, Sister M. Hyacinthe of Chehalis, Wash. and Mrs. Estella Curtin of Santa Monica, Calif. The remains rest at Jones, Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Dr. W. Carl Calhoun Tuesday, May 15, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERARD, Howard of Lynden died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 at his winter home in Thousand Palms Calif. He was 72. At his request, there will be no service. Mr. Gerard was the son of Ferdinand "Ferd" and Caroline (Miller) Gerard, and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1945. Mr. Gerard served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, serving mostly in Puerto Rico as a sergeant. In 1947 he married Dagny Carlson and they founded and owned Gerard's Garden which they operated until 1968. Mr. Gerard later worked as a general contractor, built homes and provided landscaping services. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and boating around the San Juan Islands. He also enjoyed spending the fall and winter months in California, where he learned to propagate and grow cactus as a hobby. His brother Paul Gerard and one grandchild died previously. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, of the family home; sons Kent Gerard of Bellingham and Howard (Gordon) Gerard Jr. of Ferndale; brother Ed Gerard of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; sisters Margaret Johnston of Bellingham and Phyllis Ashley of Seattle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

GERARD, Keith Alton - A service for Keith Alton Gerard of 1120 38th St. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bellingham. Mr. Gerard died at home Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997. He was 84. Born July 23, 1912, in Bellingham, he was a lifelong resident. He married Roberta White on Aug. 6, 1938, in Bellingham. Mr. Gerard worked in Forks Logging Camp in the 1940s, cutting timber for construction of Ross Dam. A member of the Sawmill and Timbers Workers and the Alaska Fisherman's unions, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of Bellingham; daughters Susan Schelenski of Stanwood and Estella Anderson of Seattle; son Fred Barker of Darrington; sisters Lucille Frost and Thelma Pullar, both of Bellingham, Bessie Callis of Herlong, Calif., and Patricia Brixner of La Mesa, Calif.; and one grandchild.

GERARD, Louella M. "Lou" (Mortimore) of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., formerly of Whatcom County, died Saturday Nov. 25, 2000 in Santa Cruz, Calif. She was 81. Born in Blaine, she graduated from Bellingham High School in 1938. Mrs. Gerard later moved to San Jose, Calif. where she worked for Eastman Kodak for 25 years. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Edward F. Gerard, of California; son Gary Gerard of Clovis, Calif.; daughters Gene Withington of South Lake Tahoe and Toni Hollis of Boulder Creek, Calif.

GERARD, Lux, age 68 years, passed away at the family residence, Tuesday, October 14, after a lingering illness. Mr. Gerard had been a resident of Bellingham for the past fifty-two years and was a retired logger. Surviving relatives include his widow, Mrs. Mary Gerard; one daughter, Miss Mabel Gerard at home; three brothers, F. F. Gerard, North Bellingham, Newton, of Friday Harbor, and Leo, of British Columbia; two sisters, Sister Mary Hyacinth, Everett, Wash., and Mrs. Estelle Curtin, in California. The remains are resting at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 17, at 1 p.m. with Rev. James Martyn Wilson officiating. Interment in Woodlawn.

GERARD, Mabel Jean, of Bellingham, died Saturday, May 8, 1993. She was 81. At her request, no services will be held. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. GERARD, Mildred R. - Former Whatcom County Assessor's Office worker Mildred R. Gerard, 76, 5515 Northwest Road, died Monday (Feb. 29, 1988) in Bellingham. Born in Ferndale, Aug. 17, 1911, Mrs. Gerard was a county resident all of her life, working in the assessor's office for eight years. Mrs. Gerard is survived by her husband Paul; five daughters, Ardis Rieland and Wanda Bruner, both of Ferndale, Carol Hassebrock of Sumas, Karen Bruno of Seattle and Janet Cloudsdale of Boulder Creek, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; a brother Seth Roberson of Ferndale; a sister Betty Blair of Bellingham; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. GERARD, Mayme, age 65 years, passed away at the family residence, 2314 Elm, Sunday, February 28, (1943) after a brief illness. Mrs. Gerard had been a resident of Bellingham for the past forty-one year[s], was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Ladies of the G.A.R., also the G.A.R. Relief Corps. One brother, James McGraw of Bellingham survives. Services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist funeral home, Wednesday, march 3, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Luther Ross. Interment will be made in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery.

GERARD, Roberta Ann - A memorial service for Roberta Ann Gerard will be at 1 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5800 Northwest Drive. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Gerard died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 80. Born July 3, 1918 in Seattle, she lived most of her life in Bellingham. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bellingham Second Ward, and of the Washington and British Columbia-Abbotsford Old Time Fiddlers. She enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, history, genealogy, mechanical projects and music. Her husband, Keith A. Gerard, died in 1997. Survivors include daughters Estella Anderson of Sedro-Woolley and Susan Schelinski of Stanwood; son Fred Barker of Darrington; two grandchildren; and many other relatives.

GERARD, William Harvey - Services were scheduled for 1 this afternoon at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon for Bellingham resident William Harvey Gerard, 81, who died Saturday at Willows Retirement Center. He was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Bellingham. Mr. Gerard was a timber cutter for 20 years and a construction superintendent for 20 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Concrete Eagles, Wildcat Steelhead Club and was a volunteer for many union activities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He married Goldie Irene McCord on July 10, 1937. She died in 1985. Survivors include a son, William Gerard of Sedro-Woolley; daughters Barbara Abbott of Eagle Creek, Ore., Margaret Potier of Lake Stevens, and Shirley Smith of Oxnard, Calif.; brothers Keith Gerard of Bellingham and Bernard Gerard of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters Thelma Puller of Lynden, Lucille Frost of Bellingham, Patricia Brixner of LeMare, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Hawthorne Funeral Home.

GERARD, William Lester, age 77 years, of Bellingham, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, January 20, (1952) following a lingering illness. Mr. Gerard had been a resident of Bellingham for the past six years and was formerly a resident of Everson and Sumas district. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Myra Barlean, of Everson; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 23, at 2 p.m., at the Gillies Funeral Home in Sumas, with Rev. Franklin Palmer officiating. Interment, Sumas Cemetery.

GERBER, Edith D. - Graveside services for Edith D. Gerber, age 75, were held Nov. 25 in Kettle Falls, Wash. Mrs. Gerber passed away Nov. 20, (1985) after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of rural Whatcom County for many years. Among survivors are her husband, Fred, of Kettle Falls; two sons, Edwin, of Rice, Wash., and Karl, of Colorado Springs; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Everett.

GERBER, Everett and Rose - Everett Gerber, 51, and Rose Gerber, 49, 1582 Harksell Road, Ferndale, died Sunday in an airplane crash near Vancouver Island. They had both been longtime Whatcom County residents. He was born April 2, 1931 and was a Korean conflict army veteran. He was a logger and a member of Sumas Post, American Legion and the Washington Pilots Association. She was born Aug. 17, 1932. She was the Mount Baker School District librarian and attended Evergreen Community Church. She was a member of Washington Education Association, Whatcom County Library Board and Washington Pilots Association. They are survived by a daughter, four sons and a granddaughter. He is also survived by his parents and two brothers and she by her mother, a brother and a sister. Joint funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at United Church of Ferndale. Arrangements are by Moles Funeral Home.

GERBER, Frank J., age 57, of 2318 Pacific St., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, August 13, (1961). A veteran of World War I, Mr. Gerber was a resident of Bellingham for the past 59 Years; was a retired logger; was a member of the William Matthews Post 1585, V.F.W. Survivors are his widow, Lucile, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Kathrine Graham and Mrs. Betty Graham, both of Bellingham and Mrs. Margaret Jones in California; one brother, Jack Gerber, of Vancouver, Wash.; many nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Walter R. Naff Tuesday, August 15 at 3 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERBER, Frederick C., a former Everson area resident, passed away in Colville on Friday, April 20, 1990. He was born in Peyton, Colo. on Dec. 27, 1899. Graveside services were held on Monday, April 23, at Myers Falls Cemetery, in Kettle Falls. Mr. Gerber is survived by two sons, Edwin, of Rice, Wash., and Karl, of Colorado Springs; three brothers; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, and a son, Everett.

GERDE, Anton E., age 57, of 518 Everglade Road, passed away Sunday, August 30, (1970). Mr. Gerde had resided in Bellingham the past 10 years and was a life member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Central Lions Club. He leaves to survive his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Gerde of the family home; 2 daughters, Mrs. Corrie Pendleton of Everett and Miss Rita Gerde of the family home; his mother, Mrs. Cornelia Gerde; 2 brothers, and 1 sister, all in Holland. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. from the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints under the direction of the Westford Funeral Home.

GERDRUM, Embret E., age 86 years, passed away in a Tacoma hospital, Saturday, November 29, (1947) after a brief illness. Mr. Gerdrum had been a resident of Whatcom county for the past fifty-nine years, had been a carpenter and helped construct many buildings in Whatcom county. His earlier life had been spent in the Silver Lake district. Mr. Gerdrum was a member of the Lutheran church. One daughter, Mrs. Ethel Wittig, of Seattle, survives, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Elaine Colbert, also of Seattle. Funeral services for Mr. Gerdrum will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 2, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Clarence Haugen, officiating. Interment in Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERECKE, Henry G., age 90 of 2201 Valencia St., passed away in a rest home Tuesday, February 4, (1964) following an extended illness. Mr. Gerecke had resided in Bellingham for the pat 64 years and was a retired fisherman. He leaves to survive 1 stepdaughter, Mrs. Lillian Brader of this city; 1 granddaughter, Mrs. Leonard Halley of this city; 1 grandson Charles Brader of Monterey Park, Calif.; 2 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. GERFEN, Flora C., age 81 of 608 Main St., Lynden, passed away in Lynden Saturday, Aug. 4, (1962) following a short illness. She was a pioneer resident of Whatcom, moving there in 1884 and with the exception of short periods, had made her home in Whatcom County since. She was a member of the Lynden Methodist Church and the Womans Society of Christian Service of the Church. Surviving are four daughters Mrs. Albert Booman of Lynden, Mrs. Raymond Hess of Yakima, Mrs. R. N. Louis of Carmel, Calif., and Mrs. Frank Saltarelli of Burton, Wash. Four sons Clarence L. Gergen (sic) of Walla Walla, Colonel H. E. Gerfen of Mercer Island, Ernest Gerfen of Cottage Grove, Ore. and Colonel F. H. Gerfen of Tyran (sic), Iran. One sister, Mrs. Walter Keizer of Longview. Also 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden Thursday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Updike officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynden Cemetery.

GERFEN, Violet, a former teacher in the Ferndale School District, died in Walla Walla on June 15, (1983). She was born April 24, 1906, in Bellingham. She attended Bellingham Normal School. She taught school in Ferndale until 1927, when she married and moved to Walla Walla. Survivors include her husband Clarence, of Walla Walla, a daughter, a son, a brother, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Walla Walla.

GERFEN, William August, age 76, of 2931 Cedarwood Ave., passed away at home Friday, Feb. 17, (1961). A resident of Bellingham for the past 45 years, Mr. Gerfen was a retired repair foreman for the Olympic-Portland Cement Co.; had attended the Broadway United Presbyterian Church; was a member and past president of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 493. Survivors are his widow, Margaret E., at home; one son, Harry, in California; three daughters, Mrs. Esther Vine of Bellingham, Mrs. May Casey of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Mrs. Elsie Potter of Bellingham; one step-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Dodd of Seattle; one step-son, Charles F. Elliott of Bellingham. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Norman B. Harrison Monday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERG, Ethel Wilson, 81, died in California, May 5, (1982) while on a visit there. She was born Oct. 26, 1900 and had lived in Whatcom County in her earlier years. She is survived by her husband Bill, two daughters, Cleo Dameron Hansen of Seattle and Betty Pritchett in California and two sons, Robert Noble and Jim Noble in California. Her sister is Eva Glass of Lynden, a sister-in-law, Florence Wilson of Bellingham, two half brothers, Kenneth and Bud Remsburg of California. There are 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, also two nieces and one nephew. There was cremation

GERGEN, Leonard N. - Rosary for Leonard N. Gergen of Lynden will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lynden. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass with the Rev. Mike Gergen officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Mr. Gergen died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at the Christian Care Center. He was 78. He was born Feb. 26, 1919, to John and Katherine Engelbert Gergen in Geneva, Neb. Mr. Gergen joined the U. S. Army in 1939 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He received the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and Occupation of Japan medal. A resident of Cheney for more than 30 years, Mr. Gergen worked as an accountant for Brown Holter Chevrolet for 35 years. He moved to Whatcom County nine years ago. He was a member of the American Legion for 33 years and Knights of Columbus for 14 years. He volunteered as a maintenance worker for the Lynden YMCA for eight years. Mr. Gergen enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and traveling. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Faye; sons James Gergen of Bellingham and Raymond Gergen of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter Barbara Gergen of Lynden; brothers Jacob Gergen of Garden Grove, Calif., and Norbert Gergen and Harold Gergen, both of Geneva, Neb.; and many other relatives. Arrangements are by Jerns-LeVeck Funeral Chapel.

GERHARD, Maxine P., age 30, passed away in a local hospital, Thurs., May 11, 1978. She leaves to survive 2 daughters; Lisa & Jade both of B'ham. Family services were held Saturday in the Chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.

GERI, Catherine - A funeral Mass for Catherine DeCristan Geri of Bellingham will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Miss Geri died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Sehome Park Care Center. She was 88. She was born Jan. 29, 1911, to Raffaele and Teresa (Viola) Geri in Bellingham. Miss Geri was an elementary school teacher for 37 years and taught in Tacoma, Grays Harbor and Oregon. Miss Geri was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Sacred Hearth Catholic Church. Survivors include sisters Pauline Geri and Augustine Berthiaume and brother Louis Geri, all of Bellingham and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

GERI, Helen L. - A graveside service will be held in Ferndale, WA at Woodlawn Cemetery, June 20th at 11:30 a.m. Miss Geri was born August 25, 1901. She died June 9, 1994 of causes related to age. She was 93. She was raised in Bellingham, WA and received a degree in architecture from the University of Washington in 1924. Miss Geri retired in 1970 after more than 33 years of Federal service as an architect. She worked in Portland, Oregon with the North Pacific Division of the Army Corps of Engineers in the design branch for the construction of hydroelectric power plants. She also served in the Middle East District in Tripoli, Libya from 1954 to 1956. She previously worked a short period with the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, and the Puget Sound Navy Yard in Bremerton, WA. Miss Geri was a member of L.T.C., Delta Zeta Panhellenic Sorority, and the Army Corps of Engineers Women's Club. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer. She is survived by her sister, Betty Vroman of Ferndale and sisters-in-law, Leora Geri of Bellingham and Ada Geri of Campbell, CA; nieces Joan Lambert of Saratoga, CA and Janet Vroman of Portland, OR; nephews, Don Geri of Foster City, CA, Warren Geri of Gig Harbor, WA, Wayne Geri of Sacramento, CA and Bill Geri of Marino Valley, CA. In addition 12 great nieces and nephews. Arrangements Jones-Moles.

GERI, Frank H., age 72, of 600 S. State, passed away Fri., Dec. 9, (1977). Mr. Geri had been a life resident of Bellingham, was recreational director for the city, was a retired teacher and athletic coach, he was a member of the Retired Teacher's Assn. a member and Past Exalt Ruler of Elks Lodge BPOE No. 194. He leaves or survive his wife, Mrs. Leora M. Geri of [the] family home; 3 sons, Warren of Bellevue, Wayne of Sacramento, CA and William of Anaheim, CA, 7 grandchildren 2 sisters, Helen Geri of Portland and Mrs. Betty Vroman of Tacoma; many other relatives. Memorial services will be held Tuesday Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. within the Elks Lodge, 3333 Squalicum Parkway, with Dr. W. Carl Calhoun officiating. Followed by the ritualistic services of the Elks Lodge. GERI, Ilario F. (Larry), age 61 years, a resident here the past forty-three years, making his home at a local hotel recently, passed away at the home of his daughter at 1209 Roland Street, Monday, April 16, (1945). Mr. Geri had been in the employ of the Bellingham Coal Mines for many years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 31. Surviving relatives are one son Rudolph, U.S. Coast Guard; two daughters, Edith Fleming, Bellingham, and Josephine Cavanaugh, Salinas, Calif; two brother, Raphael, of this city, and Joseph, in Austria; one sister, Sabine Navaris, Ravensdale, Wash. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. James M. Wilson, Wednesday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. Cremation.

GERI, Joyce E., a 65 year resident of Whatcom Co., died January 11, 1998. She was born May 14, 1922 in Union County South Dakota to Clifton and Ruth Waterbury Wallen. Joyce came to Whatcom County in 1932, graduated from Mt. Baker High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at Western Washington. Mrs. Geri was a teacher in the Meridian School Dist. Joyce married Louis R. Geri June 11, 1949. She was an active member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed friends and family. Survived by her husband, Louis R. Geri of Bellingham; children, Louis M. and Cindy Geri, Tim Geri, and Todd and Cindy L. Geri all of Bellingham, Donna and Carl Davis of Castle Rock, WA, Kathy Stephens, Kristi Pfleuger both of Bellingham, Karen Geri of Burlington, WA, and Lisa Geri of Bellingham; brother Clayton Waterbury of Iowa; grandchildren, Chad, Drew and Brett Davis, Peter Kryn and Nick Stephens, Molly Corey and Ryan Pflueger, Mickie, Melissa and Katy L. GERI, Raffaele J., age 78 years, of 805 11th St., passed away at the family home Monday, Feb. 16, (1953) following a lingering illness. Mr. Geri had resided in this city for the past 51 years and was a retired miner. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart and the Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 31. Mr. Geri is survived by his wife, Teresa; one son, Louis, of Bellingham, four daughters, Mrs. Eugene Launer, and Miss Catherine Geri, both of Tacoma, and Mrs. Charles Berthiaume and Miss Pauline Geri, both of Bellingham; four grandchildren; one brother, Joe, in Austria, and one sister, Mrs. Sibina Novera, of Ravensdale, Wash. Rosary will be said Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford Beck Funeral Home. GERI, Teresa, age 86 of 805 11th St., passed away at the family home Friday, July 3, (1964). Mrs. Geri had resided in Bellingham for the past 64 year and was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart. She leaves to survive 1 son, Louis, city; 4 daughters, Miss Pauline and Miss Catherine Geri, both of the home, Mrs. Mary Launer, Tacoma; Mrs. Augustine Berthiaume, city, 9 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter. GERING, Daniel, 77, of Lynden passed away at Christian Rest home in Lynden on April 21, 1993. Funeral services were held on Saturday at Word of Life Church with Pastor Don Ross and Pastor John Verbarendse officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden. Mr. Gering was born the son of Martin and Bertha Rieman Gering in American Falls, Idaho on Nov. 1, 1915. He came with his family as a small boy to the Monroe area in 1919 and then to Whatcom County in 1946. He served in the Army during World War II and was a graduate of McDonald's Beauty school in Bellingham in 1950. He owned and operate "Dan's National Barber Shop" in Lynden for 27 years and was on the board of the Light House mission. He attended Word of Life Church in Lynden. In Lynden on Feb. 20, 1948 he was married to Edith Stremler and she survives him at the family home. Other survivors include his on Martin Gering and wife Nancy of Lynden; two daughters, Kathy Lute and husband Mike of Seattle and Fran VanLant and husband Jay of Lynden; three brothers, Richard Gering of Ridgefield, Howard Gering of Monroe and Wilbert Gering of Issaquah; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

GERING, Edith of Lynden passed away at the Christian Health Care Center on Wednesday, July 18, 2001. She was 86. A daughter of Chris and Annie Stremler, Edith was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on May 15, 1915. She grew up in Michigan and moved to Lynden in 1945. She was married to Daniel Gering in Lynden on Feb. 20, 1948. Mrs. Gering was a member of Word of Life Church. She participated in the activities of the church's Young at Heart group which included services at many county healthcare facilities. She was also a member of the Faith Hofman Woman's Guild at the church and was a former member of the Lighthouse Mission Auxiliary. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan, in 1993; a sister, Pearl Hoekema; and an infant brother, Simon Stremler. She is survived by a son, Martin Gering and wife Nancy of Lynden; two daughters, Kathleen Lute and husband Mike of Shoreline, and Frances VanLant and husband Jay of Lynden; eight grandchildren; a sister, Priscilla Medema of Everett; and numerous other relatives. Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. today in Monumenta Cemetery followed by memorials services at 2 p.m. in Word of Life Church in Lynden with Rev. Jim Rowse officiating. Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lynden.

GERKE, Eugene M., age 44 years, of 2409 Park Street, passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 16th, (1952) in Shelton, Wash. Mr. Gerke was a well-known State Patrolman and was a lifetime resident of this community. GERKE, Grace E., age 67, 2314 E. Pole Rd., Everson, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1987, at her home. Mrs. Gerke was born April 20, 1920, in Bellingham and had been a resident of the Everson area since 1931. She was a 1938 graduate of Nooksack Valley High School and attended Western Washington University. She married Roger Gerke on May 3, 1942. Mrs. Gerke had been a member of Everson Presbyterian Church since 1943. She was a deacon of the church for six years and organist for 10 years. Survivors include her husband, Roger, of the family home; two sons, John of Chehalis and William of Walla Walla; a nephew raised as a son, Ron Sailer; a sister, Cecily Barrett of Ferndale; a brother, Franklin Tremlin of Snohomish; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery, with a memorial service following at Everson Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Thomas Tweedie officiated. GERKE, Helene M. - Graveside services for Helene M. Gerke, 81, of 2267 N. Nugent Road on Lummi Island will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenacres Memorial Park. She died June 8 in Bellingham. She was born March 25, 1907, in Alberta, Canada. GERMAIN, Curtis G. - A memorial gathering for Curtis G. Germain, 37, of 4741 Sucia Drive, Neptune Beach, will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the family home. Mr. Germain, 37, died Saturday (June 8, 1991) at home. He was born on April 4, 1954, in Los Angeles. He moved to Neptune Beach from San Francisco in 1989. Mr. Germain was a student at Bellingham Vocational-Technical Institute. He played the guitar, wrote music and was interested in electronics. Survivors include his parents, Walter and Shirley Germain of Neptune Beach; two sisters, Catharine Baker of Silverdale and Sarah Germain Lilly of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two nephews; and one niece.

GERMAIN, David L., age 87, of Nooksack, passed away Tuesday morning, March 1, (1949). Mr. Germain had been a resident of the Nooksack district for the past 65 years. Surviving relatives include three daughter, Mrs. Laura Massey, Mrs. Avilla Odell and Mrs. Mil[line skipped]; one son, Dr. George Germain of Lynden; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. GERMAIN, George Burton passed away Friday, April 20 after a short illness. Burton, a 3rd generation homesteader, was born in Everson, Washington on June 30, 1920. He married the love of his life, Maxine Wallace, on June 8, 1941. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. Burton returned to Everson to work at Darigold for over 30 years. After his retirement he and Maxine enjoyed their lives by traveling, gardening, bird watching and antique collecting. He is survived by his wife Maxine of the family home; son Roger German of Everson; granddaughters Dominique Germain and Marcella Germain (Phil Camire); and his darling great-granddaughter Victoria. A celebration of Burton's long, wonderful life will be at Jern's Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m.

GERMAIN, George S., D.C.P.H.C., age 66 of Rt. No. 1, Lynden passed away at his home Friday, Sept. 2, (1960) following a lingering illness. Dr. Germain was a graduate of the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1924 and had practiced chiropractics in Whatcom County since that time. He practiced in Nooksack, Everson and Sumas prior to moving to Lynden in 1941. Dr. Germain was a member of the advent Christian Church of Nooksack and the Washington state and National Chiropractic Associations. Survivors include his wife, Alma; one son, Burton of Everson; one daughter, Mrs. Jack L. Carlson of Mt. Vernon, two foster children, Richard Fullner and Janice Reamre, both of Lynden; also three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Massey, Everson, Mrs. Arvilla O'Dell, Ferndale and Mrs. L. E. Handy of Mt. Vernon; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Nooksack Advent Christian Church Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Norval Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

GERMAIN, Ellen, age 77 years, of Nooksack, passed away Friday, December 28, (1945). She had been a resident of that district for the past 63 years and was a member of the Nooksack Advent Christian Church. She is survived by her husband, Dave L.; three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Massey, of Bellingham; Mrs. Earl Handy and Mrs. Allen O'dell, both of Everson; one son, R. George S. Germain, of Lynden; two sisters, Mrs. Tabitha Kinsey, of Seattle, and Mrs. Jess Tucker, of Nooksack, and one brother, Will Pritts, of Bellingham; eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 2, at 1 p.m., from the Nooksack Advent Christian Church with Rev. A. Crouse officiating. Interment will follow in the Nooksack Cemetery, under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home of Sumas.

GERMAIN, Maxine Elizabeth (Wallace) passed away peacefully on August 5, 2007 after a short illness. Born December 24, 1920 in Vancouver, Washington, she grew up and spent most of her life in Whatcom County. She married her high school sweetheart George Burton Germain, and lived a peaceful life on a rural farm in Everson with their son Roger. Always a country girl, she took pleasure in her vibrant fruit and vegetable gardens Another pastime was caring for stray cats that needed homes; however, she was not amused when they chased her wild birds that she watchfully fed all year. Another pursuit, collecting antiques always made for a good excuse to go on leisurely road trips with her beloved husband of 65 years. The family will miss Christmas Eves and apple dumplings with grandma and grandpa. Surviving are her son Roger and partner Susan of Everson; granddaughter Dominique Garness (husband Tim), granddaughter Marcella Camire (husband Phillip), and most dearly loved great-granddaughter Victoria. A memorial service will be held at Jerns Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday August 11, 2007. Private family interment was held at Woodlawn Cemetery.

GERMAN, Constance Shirley, age 37, of 810 W. Division St., Mt. Vernon, passed away in that city Saturday, October 16, (1954). Mrs. German had resided in Mt. Vernon for the past four months and was a member of the First Christian Church of Bellingham. Surviving relatives include the husband, Walter and two daughters, Monte Lynn and Diane Joy at home; her mother, Mrs. Ethel Miller of Bellingham; three sisters, Mrs. Bernadine McMeen of West Orange, N.J., Mrs. Lorraine German of Winthrop, Wash., and Mrs. Donna Mae LaFreniere of Wenatchee. GERMAN, Ivy May - A funeral for Ivy May German of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenacres Funeral Home. Mrs. German died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at Sehome Park Care Center. She was 97. A lifelong Whatcom County resident, she was born Aug. 23, 1901, to Alvin and Lucy McRea Allen in Kendall and attended Columbia Valley Grade School. On Sept. 14, 1919, she married John German in Columbia Valley. He died in 1963. She volunteered for the Red Cross Gray Ladies and RSVP and enjoyed drawing, sewing, crocheting, gardening and traveling. Survivors include daughters Gail Elsbree of Port Angeles and Gladys Seton of Port Townsend; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Mr. German had been a 60 year resident of this community and was a veteran of World War 1, and for many years had been employed by the Washington Loggers Corp. Surviving relatives are his widow, Ivy, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Gail Elsbree and Mrs. Gladys Seaton both of Bellingham; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Mike and Fred both of Maple Falls, William of Winthrop, Walter of Bellingham and Alfred in West Virginia, also many nieces and nephews. GERMAN, Laurraine E., age 50, passed away in a Brewster, Wash. hospital Thursday, Dec. 31, (1959). Mrs. German had resided in Bellingham for 46 years and for the past 4 years had made her home in Winthrop. GERMAN, LaVelle, age 95, of 915 13th St., passed away Monday March 13, 1978. A resident of this community for 88 years, Mr. German was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church; had been a past master of Fairhaven Lodge No. 73 F & AM, and had served as treasurer for 50 years; graduated from Fairhaven High school in 1900 and had worked with P.A.F. for 53 years. He is survived by his wife, Artie May, 1 daughter, Mrs. Thomas O'Neill (Marion) of Seattle, 1 son Frank German of Long Beach, Calif., 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter and 1 great-granddaughter; 6 nephews and 2 nieces. Memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Wayne Keller and Rev. Scott Opsahl Sunday March 19, 3:30 p.m. at the St. James Presbyterian Church. Cremation.

GERMAN, Marian A., 9835 Silver Lake Road, Sumas, died at her home on May 19, 1993. She was 84. A memorial funeral service was conducted by Rev. Hoyt Sherwin on Monday in First Baptist Church, Lynden. Burial preceded in St. Peter's Cemetery in the Silver Lake area. The daughter of Charles and Mary (Elder) Wilson, Marian was born in Elma on Feb. 23, 1909. On Aug. 29, 1928 she was married to her husband Fred and for a short time lived in Forks. In 1981 they moved to the George German homestead, one mile north of Silver Lake, and resided there until her death. She attended First Baptist Church in Lynden and was widely known in the Maple Falls, Everson and Lynden communities. For many years she was employed as a food processor in Everson and Lynden and in the later years enjoyed making pottery. She is survived by her husband Fred of the family home; son Ken German and wife Edith of Bellevue, Neb.; two brothers, Jack Wilson of Springfield, Ore. and George (Bud) Wilson of Anacortes; son-in-law, Ken Erickson of Everson; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded by a daughter, Meribeth Erickson, in January 1992. Arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

GERMAN, Mary passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at the age of 93 in Auburn, California. Mary was a strong and compassionate woman who lived life fully. She had worked at the Pastime Café, Bay Street Massage, then opened and operated Mt. Baker Massage. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Mike German; daughter Jan Fryer and grandson Kelly Fryer; siblings Lawrence Doyle, Andy Doyle, and Clara Howell. She is survived by her sister Cecelia Benson of Lynden; grandchildren Shelly Holland of California, Nathan Fryer of Bellingham and Shannon Bailey of Everett; and children of Mike German, Rosalie Kerr of Bellingham, Tom German of Spokane and Lauralee Ware of Portland, OR. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2006, at Assumption Catholic Church with Father John Francis Bentley officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale. There will be a family gathering at Assumption Church after the services. Arrangements under the care of Jerns Funeral Chapel.

GERMAN, Mike F., 85, 3458 Willowwood St., died Tuesday (April 7, 1987) in Bellingham. He was born Jan. 6, 1902 in Maple Falls and lived in Whatcom County all of his life. Mr. German had been a logger and was known for his involvement in community events. Survivors include his wife Mary of the family home in Bellingham; a son Thomas German of Spokane; two daughters, Lauralee Ware of Medford, Ore., and Rosalie Kerr of Bellingham; two brothers, Fred German of Maple Falls and Al German of McLean, VA; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Paul Elvig officiating. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERMAN, Nicholas H., age 94, of Vancouver, B.C., passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, July 27, 1983. Mr. German was a veteran of Canadian Service during World War I, and is survived by his daughter, Mary and her husband Gorden (sic) Dwyer of Ferndale. His remains were forwarded to the Armstrong Funeral Home in Vancouver for services and burial by Moles Funeral Home.

GERMAN, Ruth Irene, age 73 622 17th Street, passed away in a Kirkland, Wash. nursing home Saturday, May 8, 1965. A forty-eight year resident of this community, she was the widow of William M. German, who passed away in 1957. Mrs. German was a member of st. James Presbyterian Church; the King's Daughters of St. James Church; Past Regent of the Chief Whatcom Chapter, D.A.R.; a member of Sehome Chapter No. 17, O.E.S., and the Hillside Garden Club. GERNER, Carl T. - A graveside service for Carl T. Gerner, 77, of 1701 Larrabee Ave. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Gerner died Tuesday (Feb. 19, 1991) at home. He was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Bellingham and was a lifetime Whatcom County resident. He served in World War II in the Army and worked as a laborer for the Port of Bellingham. He married Evalyn Carlson on July 3, 1941, in Bellingham. She died in 1988. Mr. Gerner loved the outdoors, especially deer and pheasant hunting. He also enjoyed walking his dog along the waterfront. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Stamm of Bellingham; brothers, Elmer Gerner and Walter Gerner, both of Bellingham; sisters, Louise Mossige and Elsie Kohler, both of Bellingham; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. GERNER, Dorothy Leona, 77, 1904 Rainier Ave., died Sunday, June 28, 1992, at home. She was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Bellingham, to James and Nora Rowland. She married Elmer L. Gerner, April 11, 1933. The couple had seven children. Mrs. Gerner is survived by her husband, Elmer, at the family home; sons Elmer Gerner of Oceanside, Calif., Lewis Gerner and Curt Gerner, both of Bellingham; daughters Mary Todhunter, Carole Henley, Nita Buckley and Tammy Martin, all of Bellingham; sister Florence Botsford of Sedro-Woolley; 23 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. GEROLD, Cash B., age 59 years, passed away at a local hospital, Wednesday, May 18, (1945) following a lingering illness. Mr. Gerold was a member of the K. of P. and the I.O.O.F. He was employed by the Owl Drug Store, No. 1, for about twenty-five years. Beside a host of friends he leaves to survive, one son, Sgt. Charles Gerold in U.S. army, and one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Morris, Seattle. GERRARD, Florence May - Bellingham resident Florence May Gerrard died Monday, Nov. 2, 1992, in Bellingham. She was 95. Graveside services were held Wednesday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Gerrard was born Nov. 15, 1896 in Toronto to William and May Rutherford. She married Percy David Gerrard in 1915 in Vernon, B.C. They moved to Minneapolis in 1937 and to Bellingham in 1958. He died in 1976. Mrs. Gerrard was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bellingham. Survivors include sons W. Allan Gerrard of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lawrence Elvin Gerrard of Oceanside, Calif.; daughter Glenda Shepard of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. GERRIE, George - A memorial service for Mr. George Gerrie, age 54, who died at his home at Maple Falls on Saturday, June 24, 1989, will be conducted on Thursday, June 29, at 2 p.m. in the Maple Falls Community Hall, with Pastor James Williams officiating. Mr. Gerrie was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 12, 1935, and was married to his wife, Barbara, in England on Oct. 1, 1960. In 1964 they moved to Canada and for 17 years he had been employed as a driver for All-Trans Express in British Columbia. He had been a part-time resident at Maple Falls for the past 12 years and had attended the Acme Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, Paul and wife Lynne; a granddaughter, Danicka; his mother, Mrs. Annie Gerrie in England; two sisters, Margaret Atkinson and Jean Stricklin, also both in England; and numerous other relatives. GERRITZ, Elizabeth K. - Lummi Island resident Elizabeth K. Gerritz died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1993. She was 82. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Westford Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2117 Walnut street with the Rev. John Gibbs and the Rev. Ron Reddell officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma with the Rev. Kent McCulloch officiating. She was born March 10, 1910, in Ellensburg, to Joseph and Bessie Kaynor. She graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1929, and continued her education at Central Washington University. She married her college sweetheart Albert E. Gerritz on Oct. 14, 1935. He preceded her in death April 24, 1974. Mrs. Gerritz taught school in Roslyn, Suquamish, Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo. She was affiliated with Saint Ann's Guild and the Order of St. Luke. She also sponsored children through World Vista and traveled extensively. Survivors include a son Albert Kaynor Gerritz of Dallas, Texas; daughter Georgina Ellis of Rose Mountain, Minn.; brother Howard Kaynor of Ellensburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. GERRY, Archie M., age 78, of Bellingham, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, August 3, 1991. Born in Bellingham on November 20, 1912, he and Violet Fox were married in Bellingham July 2, 1938. Archie retired from Georgia Pacific Corp. in 1975 where he had worked for 43 years. Archie belonged to B.P.O. Elks Lodge #194; Fairhaven Lions Club and Bellingham Yacht Club. Preceded in death by three brothers, Criss, Virge and Walter Gerry. Elks Lodge No. 194, Mr. Gerry also belonged to the Fairhaven Lions Club and the Bellingham Yacht Club. He enjoyed traveling, flower gardening and working in the yard. Survivors include his wife, Violet Gerry, of the family home; his daughter Marlene Amman and son Mel Gerry, both of Bellingham; one grandson and three granddaughters. GERRY, Criss Edward, 75, died suddenly at his Oak Harbor home Friday, (March 14, 1986). Mr. Gerry was born May 1, 1910, in Bellingham, and moved to Oak Harbor two years ago. He was a graduate of the old Fairhaven High School and had worked as a machine tender for 45 years at Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s Bellingham Division. He married to Dorothy M. Brown on June 7, 1931, in Bellingham. Mr. Gerry was a staff sergeant in Gen. George Patton's Third Army for three years during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement. Mr. Gerry was a member of the Bellingham Elks Lodge, the Bellingham Yacht Club, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post here. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Oak Harbor; a daughter, Lynda Decker, of Oak Harbor; and a brother, Archie M. Gerry, of Bellingham. Two brothers, Walter and Virgil, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday at Burley Funeral Home in Oak Harbor. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville.

GERRY, Mary Eva, age 82 years, of 1621 Thirtieth Street, passed away in a local hospital Monday, January 19, (1953). Mrs. Gerry had resided in this community for the past 45 years and was a member of the Fairhaven Methodist Church. Surviving relatives are her husband, William S., at home; four sons, John W. Gerry, of Olympia, Wilbur, of Los Angeles, Calif., Merville R., of Bellingham, and Harry Rowe, of Oark, Arkansas; three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Stubbeflied (sic), of Viscalia, Calif., Mrs. Thelma Junkin, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Iva Harker, of Anacortes; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed Rowe, of Bellingham, and Charley Rowe, of Colville, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Angus McCauley, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Elsie Wiley, of Waterville, Wash. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. James M. Wilson Thursday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View Cemetery.

GERRY, Naomi, age 56, passed away at the family home, 3601 W. Maplewood, Saturday, Aug. 21, (1948). Mrs. Gerry had been a resident of this community for the past 48 years and was a member of the Eagles auxiliary. Surviving relatives are the husband, Merville R., at home; one son, Ross, and one daughter, Mrs. S. O. Stensland, of Bellingham; three grandchildren, Miss Adena and Richard Stensland and Miss Kelsey Ann Gerry, all of Bellingham; mother, Mrs. Jack Aitken, of Bellingham; four sisters, Mrs. A. B. GERRY, Walter H., age 77, passed away Sat., March 3rd, 1984. He was born in South Bellingham, Washington on December 16, 1906 to James Edward and Lillie Minder Gerry, both from the state of Iowa. Mr. Gerry attended elementary and high school in South Bellingham. He graduated from Fairhaven High in June of 1925. In 1925 he entered Bellingham Normal School, later known as Western Washington University. He held a Normal School Life Diploma, an Elementary Principal's Credential and a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Mr. Gerry first taught school at Tahuya in Mason County in 1931. Other rural elementary schools taught in were at Breidablick near Poulsbo and at Oyster Bay, Kamilche near Shelton. In 1939 Mr. Gerry was principal and upper grade teacher at Blanchard which became part of the Burlington-Edison Consolidation. The next 30 years were spent within that consolidation as an elementary teacher of principal. In 1969 Mr. Gerry retired from teaching with 38 plus years of teaching service credit in Washington. He had since maintained a retired membership in the W.E.A., the N.W.A. and the Washington State Retired Teachers Association. In 1972 Mr. and Mrs. Gerry moved from Burlington to become residents of Panorama City, a retirement community in Lacey, Washington. Mr. Gerry is survived by his wife, Janice Parker Gerry; one daughter, Charlotte Cook of Randle; one son, Lee James Gerry of Lake City, Seattle; two younger brothers, Criss and Archie, all now retired and living in Bellingham. Another brother, Virgil Gerry preceded Walter in death Jan. 12, 1984. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 3 step-daughters, Mrs. Barbara Dunmire of Tacoma; Mrs. Janice Hughes of Seattle; and Mrs. Elizabeth Blair of Carmel, California. As a member of People's Memorial Association of Seattle, Mr. Gerry's remains were cared for at the Blythe Mortuary in Seattle.

GERRY, William S., age 87 years, who resided at 1621 Thirtieth Street, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, October 19, (1955) following a lingering illness. GERSPACHER, Matthaus A., age 87 of Lynnwood passed away March 18, (1980) in a Edmonds hospital. He was born Nov. 14, 1892 in Waldshut, Germany, living in the B'ham area for many years before moving to the Lynnwood area several years ago. He was a Border Patrol officer for the U.S. Government, a veteran of World War I. Member of Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, 60 years, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Veterans of World War I barracks No. 1477 of Edmonds. American Legion for 62 years. Member of the 40 and 8. The Golden Age club of Edmonds. Former Member of the Elks and Toastmaster, and at one time very active in the Scouting program. He is survived by 1 son Patrick of Edmonds and a brother Edmund of Montana, 4 grandsons, 7 nieces and nephews. GERSTER, Hans, 90, 1509 Victor St., died Tuesday (July 28, 1981) in a local nursing home. He was born Sept. 29, 1890, in Switzerland and had been a long-time local resident. GERTZEN, Ernest John, age 52, of 315 Gladstone, passed away suddenly at his home Tuesday, May 8, (1951). Mr. Gertzen had been a resident of Bellingham for the past eight months. He had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 18 years. Surviving relatives include his wife, Henrietta; a daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Medema, of Bellingham; a sister, Mrs. Ernest VanRoekel, of Route 1, Ferndale, and three brothers, George and Lawrence, both in Canada, and Richard in Montana. Services will be conducted Saturday, May 12, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Interment in Greenacres Memorial Park.

GERVOL, Victor J., Jr. - Blaine resident Victor J. Gervold Jr. died Friday, Nov. 6, 1992, in Alexandria, VA. He was 43. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine with the Rev. Dennis Wildermuth officiating. Mr. Gervol was born Aug. 31, 1949, to Violet and Victor Gervol in Duluth, Minn. He married Johanna Magnusson on June 10, 1978, in Richmond, B.C. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota and attended law school at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. Mr. Gervol worked for the U.S. Custom Service for 20 years in Minnesota, Alaska, Maine, Montana, Washington and Vancouver, B.C.

GESCHKE, Herman J. Jr. - Visitation for Herman J. Geschke Jr., formerly of Bellingham, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Miller Woodlawn Chapel in Bremerton, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Mr. Geschke died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton. He was 73. Born March 29, 1924, in Bellingham, he graduated from Fairhaven High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1961 and worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 36 years, retiring in 1979. Mr. Geschke was a lifetime member of Fleet Reserve Branch 29 and of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Shizuko; sons John Geschke of Key Center and Mike Geschke of Bremerton; daughters Mary Connor of Louisville, Ky., Ruth Carter and JoAnn Duchesneau, both of Renton, Susan Reeves of Olympia, Carol Geschke of Silverdale and Laura Gese of Port Orchard; brothers Gerald Geschke of Edmonds and Fred Geschke of Bellingham; and 14 grandchildren.

GESCHKE, Mildred Anna, age 58, 1703 Harris Avenue, passed away Sunday, February 13, (1966). Mrs. Geschke was a fifty-five year resident of this City, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Survivors are her husband, Herman J., at home; four sons, Don and Frederick, both of this City; Gerald in Lynnwood, and Herman, Jr. of Bremerton; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Morrison of Ferndale, and Mrs. Marion Nester of Renton. GESDAHL, Leta L., age 75 years, of 3734 Patton Street, passed away in a Seattle hospital Monday, Aug. 10, (1959). Mrs. Gesdahl had been a life resident of Bellingham and was a member of the Birchwood Garden Club. She leaves to survive her husband, Alfred G., at the family home; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Clouse of Auburn; two sons, Alfred of Vallejo, Calif., and Chuck of Seattle; also seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private family services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m., in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with the Rev. Olson of Auburn, officiating, followed by cremation.

GESKE, Walter M. died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at Highland Convalescent Center. He was 98. No service will be held. Born Feb. 2, 1899, to Friedrich and Antonia Geschke in Fairhaven, he lived in Whatcom County for about 70 years. Mr. Geske retired from Standard Oil Co. and spent his retirement years in Arizona and California before returning to Bellingham in 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjory, in 1995. Survivors include daughters Robin Wahl of Bellingham and Gene McKenzie of Germany, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. GESSE, Emil, 84, of 1927 James St., passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Feb. 16, (1960). Mr. Gesse had resided in Bellingham for the past 40 years; was a retired cabinet maker; was a member of the Four Square Gospel Tabernacle. Survivors are one son, William H. GETGEN, Joseph Leroy, age 47 of Bellingham, passed away August 7, 1997 in Bellingham. He served with the Air Force in Vietnam; earned a degree in Computer Science at WWU and was currently Office Manager at The Chimney Sweep in Fairhaven. He was well known for his participation in many of the Fairhaven events. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Joe Getgen of PA; Mother, Dori Crisman; of Bellingham; Brother, Richard Getgen, of PA; two sisters, Harriett Avila of Wenatchee, WA and Carolyn Murdock of Jackson, FL. A Service of Remembrance will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 1997, in the Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel. GETSCHMANN, Bernhardt A., 61, a former Blaine resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bremerton with burial at Greenacres Memorial Park in Bellingham. Mr. Getschmann, who was born in Blaine and was graduated from Blaine High School, had lived for many years in Bremerton where he was in the real estate business. He died there Wednesday, (June 24, 1964). Surviving are the widow, Laura; a son, Bernhardt of Honolulu; a daughter, Karen Ann Getschmann of Seattle, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Sundean of Bellingham and Mrs. George Prickett of Tucson, Ariz. GETSCHMANN, Laura, age 81 of 2334 9th St., Bremerton, passed away in Seattle, Dec. 24, 1984. She was born in Dakota in Oct. 26, 1903 and was raised in Blaine. At the time of her death, she had been a resident of Bremerton for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernhardt Getschmann in 1964. She had been a member of the Unity Church of Bremerton and was most noted for her cookbook "You Don't Know Me, But" which was published in Bremerton. She is survived by 1 son Bernhardt Getschmann Jr. and his wife Teri of San Francisco, Calif.; 1 daughter, Karen and her husband Murray Segal of Los Angeles, Calif.; 3 sisters, Katherine Valdason of Bellingham, Emily Reed and Alice Simonarson both of Lynden; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park with Rev. Donald E. Walter officiating. Memorial services will be held in Bremerton Sat. Dec. 29. GETTLE, Helen Lucille, age 94, a resident of Summit Place at Mt. Baker Care Center, Bellingham, went home to be with her Lord on February 21, 2000. Helen was born in Madison, WI, the oldest of 3 children, to August and Rebecca (Helgeson) Gerfen, on April 1, 1905. She was a graduate of East High School in Madison. She married Ted Gettle in 1925 and they had a son Richard and a daughter Marilyn. In 1948 they moved to Bellingham where they owned and operated the Ted's 99 restaurant for many years. In earlier days Helen was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherwoman. She loved gardening and raising flowers of all kinds. She specialized in raising pansies, roses and African violets. She also loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and was skilled in the lost art of tatting. Up until her last few months she was tatting doilies for her friends and staff at Summit Place. She also was involved in making lap robes for nursing home patients and attended the senior crocheting club. Her hands were never idle. She was happiest when her family was all together. She was a loving mother to look up to and respect, a loving grandma, and "Great Granny." She poke her mind in wisdom and humor and was "always there" for her family in all situations. She attended Calvary Temple Church where she was active in women's ministries, making quilts and sewing bandages for missionary families. The past 4 years she attended Alger Valley Christian Center. Helen was a courageous woman as she journeyed through her illness for over 2 years. She is and will continue to be missed beyond words... but she is now at rest and has stepped over into Eternal Life. She is survived by her son Dick Gettle and wife Joyce of Lynnwood; daughter Marilyn Rasmussen and husband Jerry of Bellingham. Five grandchildren; Dave Oiness and wife Karen of Deming; Debbie Fixel and Lynn Gettle both of Everett; Ron Gettle and wife Diana of Arlington; and Tracy Marcelli and husband Phil of Bellingham. 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Orraine Gerfen and several nephews. She also had many younger women friends who called her "mom." Her parents, her husband Ted of 63 years, sister Dorothy and brother Art, 2 sons-in-law, Marv Oiness and Don Apeland, precede her in death. A Graveside service will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park Thursday, February 24, 2000 at 1 p.m. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service and fellowship time will follow the burial in Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30. Pastors Jim Cannon and Jerry Rasmussen will be officiating at the services. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Summit Place who gave such loving care to Helen and to the hospice staff and volunteers whose expertise was appreciated. A special thanks to Chaplain Ron Reddell, who ministered so faithfully and became a personal friend. Also thanks to the friends who visited her, sent cards, or brought flowers. God Bless You All!

GETTLE, Robert B. "Bob" of Lummi Island, WA, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2006, in Bellingham. He was 88, born in Tacoma on June 17, 1918. Commissioned as a Lieutenant, Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during WWII, stationed in Guam. He earned a B.A. from the Univ. of Washington. Before retiring, Bob was a regional manager in the oil industry. Bob loved fishing and took fishing trips to Alaska. He also loved hiking and hiked the Grand Canyon at age 75. He enjoyed living on Lummi Island, where he gardened and picked wild blackberries. Bob invested in the stock market as a hobby. He was a devoted husband to Mary, who preceded him in death. Bob is survived by his son Lance Gettle, daughter Pam Caldwell, and sister Gloria. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 28th, at Greenacres Memorial Park Moles Family Funeral Home & Cremation Bayview Chapel-Bellingham.

GETTLE, Ted L., former owner of Ted's 99 restaurant in Bellingham, Samish Way, died Thursday (March 24, 1988) in Bellingham. Mr. Gettle, 84, of 4915 Samish Way, was born May 4, 1903, in Edgerton, Wis. He moved to Bellingham in 1948. He operated Ted's 99 from 1948 until he retired in 1976. He was a member of Calvary Temple, Lake Padden Senior Men's Club, and Commonwealth F&AM Lodge No. 325 in Madison, Wis. Survivors include his wife Helen of the family home; a son Richard Gettle of Lynwood; a daughter Marilyn Apeland of Bellingham; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Greenacres Memorial Park and Funeral Home with pastors Ernest Francis and Wayne Francis of Calvary Temple officiating. A former resident of Bellingham, Mrs. Gettles died Friday (May 24, 1974) in St. Vincent's Hospital, Vancouver, after a long illness. She is survived by a son, John of Seattle; daughter, Jo-anne Andrus Jr. of St. Paul, Minn., and four grandchildren. Cremation will be under direction of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, Vancouver.

GETTLES, John Valentine, age 63 of 1777 W. 13th Ave., Vancouver, British Columbia, passed away Jan. 9, (1976). Mr. Gettles was a former long time resident of Bellingham. He was employed by KVOS Television Corp. and Canawest Film Productions, a subsidiary of KVOS, since Jan. 1952. Survivors are his wife, Eve at home; son John, Seattle; daughter, Jo Anne Andrus of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kelli and Jack Gettles and Megan and Patrick Andrus. Funeral service at W. Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Ave., W. Vancouver, 1 p.m. Wed., Jan. 14. Cremation.

GETTY, Alicia, aged 85 years, passed away at the family home, 1003 17th St., Monday, November 1, (1943) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Getty had resided in Bellingham for the past 54 years and was a member of the Episcopal church. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Miss Mabelle G. Getty, at home; a son, Hardess J. Getty, of Portland, Ore.; also 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The remains rest at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home where services will be conducted Thursday, November 4, at 3 p.m. by Cannon E. B. Smith. Interment in Bay View cemetery.

GETTY, Mabelle passed away at the home of her brother, Hardiss Getty, in Portland, Ore., where she was visiting, Sunday, April 14, (1946) following a brief illness. Miss Getty had lived in South Bellingham for the past 58 years, and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church. Surviving relatives include, beside the brother, two nieces, also of Portland. Funeral services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist funeral home, Thursday, April 18, at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Canon E. B. Smith. Interment in Bay View cemetery.

GETZ, Elizabeth Anna, age 88 of 189 E. Bakerview, passed away Feb. 21, (1976). She had been a resident of this community for the past 60 years and a member of First Christian Church. Surviving daughter, Elane Mooney of Bellingham, 1 brother, Francis Breslich of Seattle, 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Family memorial services were held followed by cremation. Arrangements by Jones Funeral Home.

GETZ, Ernest, age 82, of 614 Larrabee, passed away Friday, May 24, (1974). He had been a life time resident of Bellingham and a member of the Labors Union No. 276. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Eileen Anderson and Mrs. Judy Larson, both of Bellingham; 6 grandchildren; 1 step-son, William F. Pace of Seattle. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. within the chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Dr. Lawrence Guderian pastor of the Garden Street Methodist Church officiating. Interment Woodlawn.

GETZ, Lawrence, age 77 of Friday Harbor, Wa. passed away in B'ham Fri. Sept. 14, 1979. He was born in Renville, Minn. on April 28, 1902. He had lived in the Friday Harbor area for 53 years. He was retired from the Orcas Power and Light Co. He was married to May L. Martel of Penbina, N. Dakota, April 28, 1925. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Friday Harbor. Survived by his wife, May L. Getz, at home, 1 daughter, Donna MacKinnon of Bellevue, Wa., 1 son Larry W. Getz Jr. of B'ham, 2 sisters: Judy Adams of Minn. and Viola Sellheim of N. Dakota, 1 brother Carlyle Getz of Ore. Also 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, 4 nieces and 5 nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tue. Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. from the United Presbyterian Church of Friday Harbor. Rev. H. E. Beyer officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by the Evan-Engdahl Funeral Home.

GETZ, Peggy Louise passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at the age of 68. She was born January 30, 1938 in Touche, Washington. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Petrie, and son Perry Ferguson. She is survived by her mother, Margaret Petrie of California, daughter Loni Uchytil of Seattle, son Scott Getz of Ferndale, son Kurt Getz and wife Lisa of Bellingham, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A private service will be held at Washington Memorial Park in Seattle at a later date.

GETZ, Will B., age 49 of 1704 Bakerview Rd., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, November 29, (1959) following an extended illness. Mr. Getz was a life resident of Bellingham and a member of the First Christian Church. He leaves to survive his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Cetz of the family home, 1 brother, Ernest of Willow Creek, Calif., one sister, Elaine Roessel of this city, many nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 4 at 2:30 p.m. from the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Naff, pastor, officiating. Interment Bayview.

GETZ, William Christ, age 69, of 1704 Bakerview Road, passed away at the family home, Monday May 26, (1952). Mr. Getz had been a resident of this community for the past 60 years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church and of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. Surviving relatives include the widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Getz at the family home; two sons, Will B. Getz at home, and Ernest M. Getz, of Willow Creek, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Elaine N. Roessel, of Bellingham; eight grandchildren, and a brother, Ernest G. Getz, of Bellingham. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Ray S. Wagoner, Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.

GETZIE, Thomas S. – Surrounded by his loving family, Tom passed away on November 6, (2006) at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by his dear Mae, he was the much loved Dad to Linda Williams (Jeff), Tom J. Getzie (Pat) and Kathy Evans (Don) and special Grandpa to Stephen Williams (Reda), Tom G. Getzie and Danielle Getzie (Harley). Born and raised in Jamestown, NY, he attended college at Michigan State and Niagara Universities and eventually settled in Niagara Falls, NY with Mae and his three children. There he began his career with the Hooker Chemical Company as a chemist and later was recruited for the start up of a new plant in North Vancouver, where he worked for many years in Production and Industrial Relations Management. After retirement, Tom and Mae enjoyed many wonderful years in Sudden Valley and Bellingham. Tom returned to live in North Vancouver earlier this year. Dad was a supremely honest, inquisitive, sweet and gentle hearted man who loved his family above all. He had a surprisingly mischievous sense of humour that was a delight for many to enjoy. We will miss him deeply. Memorial Mass on Tuesday, November 14 at 1:00, Holy Trinity Church, 2725 Lonsdale, North Vancouver, B.C. Reception to follow.

GETZLAFF, Henry A., age 60, of 3424 Meridian, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, December 25, (1952). Mr. Getzlaff has resided here for the past 17 years and had been the caretaker at Cornwall Park for 16 years; was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44, F. & A. M. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frieda Getzlaff, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Wagner, of Bottineau, N.D. and Mrs. Caroline Hahn, of Gardina, N.D.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Albert and Arthur, of Willow City, N.D., and William Getzlaff, of Gardina, N.D.; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Holman, in Minnesota, Mrs. Edelia Dagner, Mrs. Ella Newbaugher, and Mrs. Emma Schelander, all of Bottineau, N.D., and Mrs. Amanda Dumdal, of Rugby, N.D. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. E. M. Butenshon, Monday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m. and will be forwarded to Bottineau, North Dakota, for interment.
