Friday, April 22, 1892:

Mrs. John GRANT died yesterday morning at her residence on Elk street of consumption. The funeral will take place tomorrow. Mr. GRANT is one of the foremen on the [smudge].

A petition was filed by Joseph A. Blakely for letters of administration on estate of Flora Blakely, deceased.

The body of Eugene BLOWER, a young man about 21 years of age, who was in company with two others, lost by being capsized from a small boat off Lopez Island, about four weeks ago, was found in a pile of driftwood by some children who were playing on the beach last Tuesday. The body was badly decomposed.

James RAPER, one of the old settlers of Goshen, was on the streets of New Whatcom, yesterday.

Captain LANE, of the Germania, will be married today at the parsonage, by Rev. APPLEGATE, to Miss HALL, of Seattle.

Mrs. W. H. HOLMES, who has been visiting relatives in Iowa during the past winter, is expected to return to this city in about a week.

Miss Mamie EVERSOLE, started yesterday for New Whatcom from Bloomington, Ill. She was formerly Sheriff de LORIMER's clerk.

Mr. David DEALY, of Lummi, is very ill at his residence. Something more than a year ago he was almost horned to death by a mad bull, and he has never fully recovered from the effects. His present illness is considered quite serious.

Steps will soon be taken to have the town of Marietta incorporated with New Whatcom.

Mr. Samuel BLUNT's infant child that died on Saturday morning, was buried on Sunday morning.

School report for month ending April 15. Average daily attendance, 26. The following are the names of those who stand 90 and over in scholarship:
Kitty CLARK, 98; James ALLEN, 98; Nellie JONES, 98; Lewis HENRY, 98; Frank LUND, 96; Frank TELEGRON, 94; Eva JONES, 92; Maude PRESSNEY, 92; Mamie RAMP, 90; Cleve WALTER[S], 90; Jessie WALTERS, 90.
The following were neither absent or tardy:
James ALLEN, Ross ALLEN, Dalbert SHERMAN, Frank TELEGRON, Frank KENNEDY, Cleve WALTERS, Jessie WALTERS and Maggie BIGGERSTAFF.

Mrs. Andrew WILSON of Blue Canyon, has presented her husband with a 9lb girl.

A little child of John MARKHART's died last Thursday at Goshen, and was buried on Friday.

Dr. HIGHWARDEN of Coupeville, fell dead on the wharf at that place, Thursday, of heart disease.

The school at Geneva, on Lake Whatcom will be presided over this summer by Miss Flora SUTHERLAND, of East Sound. She is at present visiting friends in this city.

Mr. McLENNAN, of Fairhaven has purchased Matia island in the Gulf of Georgia, and intends building a residence. There are about fifty acres on the island which he intends to cultivate.

James D. HAYES, formerly of Lynden, has opened a restaurant next to the Eureka house on Elk street.

Friday, April 29, 1892:

Mrs. William OSTERMAN, of Nooksack City, was in the city, yesterday.

Walter GERMAIN, who lives at Everson, on the Nooksack river, yesterday morning while at work pulling stumps met with a severe and painful accident. The heavy chain on the stump machine, which was attached to the stump, parted from the tremendous strain upon it and flying backward struck Mr. GERMAIN just below the knee, fracturing the leg in two different places. Dr. BIRNEY of this city was at once summoned and reduced the fracture.

Dr. M. L. JAMESON, has commenced the practice of medicine again.

Fred LUND, the old veteran of Lummi was enjoying life in the city, yesterday.

The steamer Minnie M. which has been running on the Snohomish and Skykomish rivers, was sold yesterday to John KILLCUP for the sum of $5,000, and will be placed on the Nooksack river route.

D. E. HALSTED, of Goshen, was in the city, yesterday.

John LOVEALL, of Goshen, was in the city, yesterday.
