Washington County, Vermont Obituaries - 1996 Brosseau, Helen M., 89, of Montpelier, died Feb. 2. Born in 1907 in Gorham, N.H., she was the daughter of Joseph and Ellen (Vincent) Lavertue. In 1922, she married Adelelard Brosseau, who died in 1979. She was employed at Reddy Company, retiring in 1973. Her memberships included St. Augustine Church. Survivors include two sons, Simon and Frederick; two daughters, Florence Aja and Sally Bilodau; 14 grandchildren; 20 great­grandchildren; one great­great­granddaughter; one sister. Slattery, David R., 64, of Montpelier, died Dec. 22, 1996. Born in 1932 in Philadelphia, he was the son of Daniel Bobb Slattery and Phoebe (Atkinson) Slattery. He spent the early years of his life in Montpelier and later attended Kimball Union Academy, a preparatory school in Meriden, N.H. He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology and history and his master's in education from St. Lawrence University. In 1957, he married Sally Stone. He taught social studies and history classes in New York schools, retiring in 1990. Survivors include his wife; one son, Thomas; two daughters, Kathleen Kennedy and Carol Slattery; two grandchildren; one brother. Norton, Leo A., Sr., 71, of Barre Town, died Feb. 2. Born in 1925 in Barton, he was the son of Albert and Kate (Smith) Norton. He attended schools in Washington. He worked for Wells­Lamson Quarry Company, the Wetmore & Morse Quarry, Adamant Quarries, Brusa Brothers Granite Company and more recently at Northeast Granite Company, retiring in 1988. In 1955, he married Virginia Edson. Farnham, Lena B., 83, of Waterbury, died Feb. 3. Born in 1913 in Waitsfield, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Sherman) Farnsworth. She attended schools in Moretown. She was employed as a nurses aide at the former Heaton Hospital in Montpelier and then by the former Demerritt Company in Waterbury. Born in 1899 in Carthage, S.D., she was the daughter of Edgar and Margaret (McLean) Taft. She moved to Marshfield when she was a child and received her early education there, graduating from the former Goddard Seminary in Barre and later attending Burlington Business College. She was employed by Union Central Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1963. She moved to Barre in 1982. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Springfield, Mass. Born in 1907 in St. Sophie, Quebec, he was the son of Edmond and Odila (Delisle) Demers. He attended schools in Canada. The family moved to Massachusetts and then to Websterville and later to Barre. He was employed by the A.M. Flanders Company. In 1940, he married Mary A. Duprey. In 1950, he founded Demers Repair Shop, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1972. Sumner, Pauline, 77, of Barre, died Jan. 31. Born in 1919 in Barre, she was the daughter of Francesco and Filamena (Desantis) Magrone. Barrows, Ethel I., 100, died Jan. 25. Born in 1896 in Marshfield, she was the daughter of Susan Putnam Hollister Duke and Forrest Levi Duke. In 1921, she married William Burrnet Barrows. She was employed by the War Department and later was the secretary to the Secretary of the Treasury. She returned to Vermont in 1961. She worked in several area nursing homes as well as the former Barre City Hospital. In 1961, she married Herve Roy. She was a member of the Williamstown United Federated Church. McBride, Christine, 89, of Barre, died Feb. 6. Born in 1908 in Milan, Quebec, she was the daughter of Charles and Annie (McLeod) Thom. She received her education in Barre City schools and Spaulding High School. She was first married to Kenneth Alexander, he is deceased. In 1934, she married Henry McBride, who died in 1976. She worked at the former Rock of Ages Capacitor Plant and later was employed by the Homer Fitts Company. Born in 1901 in Orange, she was the daughter of Wilford and Josephine (Blow) Sayah and attended Orange schools. In 1928, she married Charles Waldo Clifford, who died in 1955. She graduated from Northfield High School and served with the Navy. In 1960, she married Bernard Marcotte. She worked in the mess hall at Norwich University and more recently was a department manager at Rich's Department Store in Berlin. Born in 1945 in Montpelier, he was the son of Sherwood and Helen (Corry) Murray. He was a graduate of Montpelier High School, studied at the University of Vermont and University of Bluefield in West Virginia. He obtained his master's in business administration through the University of Iowa. He had worked for General Electric, for the Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1992, he moved to Doylestown with Helm Rail Equipment Service and was currently its vice president. He was a member of the Providence Reformed Baptist Church. He was married to Cheryl (Grout) Murray. McGrath, Laura M., 81, of Graniteville, died Feb. 6. Born in 1915 in Duxbury, she was the daughter of Rubin and Bessie (Haskins) Sherman. She attended Duxbury Elementary School and Waterbury High School. In 1934, she married Frederick McGrath, who died in 1974. She had worked at the former Cross Bakery and at the Pelkey Boarding House in Graniteville. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. O'Neil, Herbert G., 77, formerly of Barre, died Sept. 22. Born in Groveton, N.H., in 1919, he was the son of William and Elizabeth (Houley) O'Neil. In 1941 he married Ernestine Aube, who is deceased. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He worked for Rock of Ages quarries and later moved to Essex Junction and became a founding partner and manager of Bailey Spring & Glass Inc. in Essex Junction. Siegel, Charlotte A., 82, of Waterbury, died Sept. 20. Born in 1914 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Walter and Henriette Mae (Willets) Holborn. She was a graduate of Sayville Long Island High School and received her RN degree from Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1939, she married Mitchell Siegel. She worked for several years as an operating room nurse at South Nassau Long Island Community Hospital. She and her husband had lived in Vermont since 1979. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael Siegel and James Siegel; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Soucy, George A., 96, of Barre, died Sept. 20. Born in 1900 in Manchester, N.H., he was the son of Joseph and Marie (LaRoche) Soucy. He attended schools in Coaticook, Quebec and moved to Barre in 1923. He later owned and operated a farm in Williamstown, retiring in 1962. In 1930, he married Marie Louise Sylvain, who died in 1964. In 1965, he married Bella Ainsley, who died in 1977. In 1978, he married Desneiges Laperle, who died in April of this year. He was a member of St. Monica Parish. In 1981, he came to Montpelier where he was a service representative for the Social Security Administration, working in the Montpelier office. Buker, Nildah M., 75, of Stowe, died Sept. 21. Born in Waterbury Center, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Clara (Fielder) Mayo. Her husband, Maynard, died in 1962. She was employed by Stoware and then by George F. Adams Co. in Moscow. Hockenbury, Edward J., 53, of Northfield, died Sept. 26. Born in 1943 in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of William and Mary (Gilroy) Hockenbury. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia and earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from Boston College. He also graduated from Long Island University in New York with a master's in guidance and counseling. In 1966, he married Patricia Mead. He was an assistant basketball coach at Georgetown University, West Point and Villanova University before joining the staff at Norwich University as head coach. He later became assistant coach at Middlebury College before becoming head coach at Vermont Technical College in Randolph. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Northfield. Survivors include his wife; his son, Edward; two daughters, Christine Cirelli and Amy Hockenbury; two grandchildren; his mother; two brothers; two sisters; several nieces and nephews. Van Meter, Josephine (Hamilton), 83, formerly of Montpelier, died Sept. 23. Born in St. Johnsbury in 1913, she was the daughter of Ralph and Ada May (Black) Hamilton. She attended Oberlin College in Ohio, majoring in music. In 1943, she married Herbert Van Meter. They served parishes in Kent, Ohio and San Mateo, Calif. She spent four years in New York City, where she was a contemporary music consultant to the National YWCA. She and her husband moved to Montpelier in 1971 to serve the Bethany Church. Her husband is deceased. She moved to Wake Robin in Shelburne in 1993. She was a member of the College Street Congregational Church in Burlington. Survivors include her children, Tom Van Meter and Gretchen Lawton; five grandchildren; her sister. Pratt, Olive I., 88, of Berlin, died Sept. 25. Born in 1908 in Williamstown, she was the daughter of Rolla and Ina (Dutton) Tilton. She attended schools in Williamstown and Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School. In 1927, she married Elmer Pratt. They established Handmade Toys in 1960, a business operated out of their home. Mr. Pratt died in 1968. Mrs. Pratt retired in 1970 and began living at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center in 1993. Survivors include her children, Wendell Pratt, Joanne Tracy, John Pratt and Richard Pratt; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Emond, Olive A., 74, formerly of Bethel, died Sept. 22. Born in 1922 in Bethel, she was the daughter of Ivan and Ruth (Converse) Carr. She attended Montpelier High School. In 1941, she married Albert Emond. she worked for the Vermont Health Department, retiring in 1979. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Grace Rieder; three sons, Albert, David and Kenneth; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters; several nieces and nephews. McGaffey, Howard, 84, of Randolph, died Sept. 25. Born in 1912 in East St. Johnsbury, he was the son of Carlyle and Lyra (Morse) McGaffey. He attended Kirby and East St. Johnsbury schools. In 1936, he married Margaret Danforth. They moved to Barre and in 1987, moved to Randolph. He learned the construction trade working with his father and remained in that field until retiring in 1974 as head of the maintenance department from New Hampshire Vocational Technical School in Manchester, N.H. and Hooksett, N.H. He was also an ordained minister of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Royalton. Survivors include his wife; one son, Carlyle; two grandchildren; one niece. McKay, Mary W., 76, of Greensboro, died Sept. 26. Born in 1920 in New York City, she was the daughter of Dr. William Leigh and Mary (O'Neil) Williamson. She attended Bayonne High School and graduated from Notre Dame University on Staten Island, N.Y. She later married Robert McKay, who predeceased her. She was a first grade teacher at Port Chester High School in Port Chester, N.Y. At the time of her death, she was on the board of the Greensboro Nursing Home and a fundraiser for the Greensboro Free Library. Born in 1933 in Randolph, he was the son of Homer and Eva (Sayah) Plastridge. He graduated from Northfield High School. Following graduation, he joined the Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked at the Nantanna Woolen Mill in Northfield and then at Ethan Allen Furniture Company in Randolph, retiring in 1991. In 1971, he married Nancy Clough Johnson, who died in 1994. He was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Northfield. Survivors include four step children, James Johnson, Jennifer Dutil, Judith West and Nancy LaConti; two brothers; six step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Palmer, Barbara T., 82, of Bradford, died Sept. 26. Born in 1913 in Newport, she was the daughter of Charles and Bernice (Hastings) Taylor. She attended schools in Newport and graduated from Newport High School. She received a degree in home economics from the University of Vermont and later worked for Lever Brothers in Boston. In 1942, she married Horace Palmer Jr., who died in 1992. She was a member of the Bradford United Church of Christ. Bradley, Marilyn J., 61, of Barre, died Sept. 27. Born in 1935 in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of Robert and Agnes (Regan) Jennings. She attended St. Peter Elementary School in Jersey City and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken, N.J. In 1953, she married John Bradley. They moved to Marshfield in 1975 where they owned and operated the Marshfield General Store. In 1989, they moved to Barre, where she was employed as a certified nurses aide at the Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church in Barre. Minshull, Thomas F., 72, of Barre, died Sept. 25. Born in 1924 in Newbury, he was the son of John and Margaret (Tilford) Minshull. He attended Newbury schools. In 1948, he married Ivis Barnes. They moved to Barre in 1968. He worked with the railroad and on dairy farms. He then worked in the granite industry, retiring from Beck & Beck. He was a member of Hedding United Methodist Church. Abramovich, Francis G., 75, of East Montpelier, died Sept. 24. Born in 1921 in Waterbury, he was the son of Anthony and Alexandria Ambramovich. He grew up in Connecticut where he received his early and secondary education. He served with the Coast Guard during World War II. In 1946, he married Jeannette Marshall. He was a furnace technician, employed by American Brass for 38 years. He moved to East Montpelier in 1986. Born in 1918 in Hartford, Conn., she was the daughter of John and Sadie (Wilkie) McGowan. She attended elementary school in Hartford and graduated from Buckley High School. In 1938, she married Russell Brown Sr., who died in 1984. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal) in Barre. Survivors include her son, Russell Jr. ; two daughters, Doris Brown and Martha Colby; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Fernandez, Angela R., 96, of Barre, died Sept. 24. Born in 1900 in Mirones, Province of Santander, Spain, she was the daughter of Anacleto and Carmen (Vega) Higuera. She came to Barre in 1968. In 1969, she married Raimundo Fernandez, who died in 1979. She was a member of St. Monica Parish. She received her early education in Pittsburg schools, graduating in 1931. In 1933, she married Kenneth R. Clark, who died in 1983. She worked as a substitute teacher. Born in 1899 in Bellows Falls, she was the daughter of George and Susannah (Young) Olmstead. She received her early education in the Bellows Falls school system, graduated from Bellows Falls High School and from the Teacher Training Course there. In 1920, she married H. Bernard Pembroke and they lived in Montpelier for a time. He died in 1979. She taught in Middlesex and Brattleboro. Survivors include her son, James I. Gagnon, June M., 66, of Williamstown, died Oct. 1. Born in 1930 in Barre, she was the daughter of Wayne Gurdon Martin and Mary Farquhar Martin. She received her early education in Williamstown and graduated from Williamstown High School. In 1952, she married John W. Gagnon. She devoted her life as a parent and homemaker. She was a member of St. Sylvester Church. McAdam, Frederick A., 78, of Hardwick, died Oct. 1. Born in 1918 in Hardwick, he was the son of Frederick and Alice (Rockwell) McAdam. He was educated in Hardwick schools. He was a lineman for Hardwick Electric and was employed at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury in boiler maintenance. He had spent the past 38 years as janitor and maintenance man at the United Church of Hardwick, retiring earlier this year. He was a member of the United Church of Hardwick. Born in 1909 in Wolcott, he was the son of Alva and Bessie (Gould) Foster. He attended schools in Wolcott and high school in Morrisville. He served with the Army during World War II and later with the Vermont National Guard. In 1986, he married Helen Durant Silvia. He had been a supervisor with the Vermont Highway Department, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Wolcott United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lola Alice and Patricia; a stepson, John Michael Silvia; a sister; a brother; several nieces and nephews. MacAulay, Katie M., 92, of Berlin, died Sept. 29. Born in 1904 in Graniteville, she was the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Thomson) MacKenzie. She attended schools in Graniteville. She married John MacAulay, who died in 1969. She was a member of the Graniteville Presbyterian Church and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Barre. Born in 1901 in Barre, he was the son of Dennison and Josie (Wheeler) Densmore. He received his early education in the Barre school system and graduated from Spaulding High School. He moved to Dryden, N.Y. and served the surrounding communities as a milk tester for Cornell University. In 1992, he married Ruth Elizabeth Gladding, who died in 1994. Gilson, Wallace H., 82, of East Corinth, died Oct. 1. Born in 1914 in New London, Conn., he was the son of Howard and Mabelle (Spencer) Gilson. He attended the University of New Hampshire and was employed as a designer of heavy equipment by the Frank G. Hugh Company and Multi-Hoe Company, both of Chicago. He had moved to Vermont in 1979. Born in Barre, he was the son of Harry and Blanche (Carr) Holt. He attended the former Brookside School in Barre Town and Spaulding High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps. He joined his father in the building contracting business and continued operating the company, known as Earl Holt Inc., until he retired in 1971. In 1945, he married Doris (Dossey) LeClair, who died in 1988. His memberships included Hedding United Methodist Church. Tucker, Jeannie B., 104, of Montpelier, died Oct. 1. Born in 1892 in Barre, she was the daughter of James and Annie (Reid) Brown. She received her early education in Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1932, she married George Tucker, who died in 1971. Garland, Nelson F., 78, of North Randolph, died Sept. 28. Born in 1918 in Boston, Mass., he was the son of Bertram and Bernice (Wood) Garland. He attended elementary school in Bedford, Mass., graduating from Lexington (Mass.) High School and Massachusetts Nautical School in Charlestown, Mass. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II and was employed by the United States Lines as a captain in the Merchant Marines, prior to retirement. In 1942, he married Shirley Fishlock, they moved to Randolph in 1971. Willey, Jedd O., 78, of Montpelier, died Sept. 27. Born in 1918 in Essex Junction, he was the son of Clyde and Lena (Beckley) Willey. He attended Montpelier Graded School and Montpelier High School and served with the Army Air Force during World War II. He was employed as a chauffeur by National Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1983. In 1961, he married Therma Billado, who died in 1987. Born in 1935 in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of Robert and Agnes (Regan) Jennings. She attended St. Peter Elementary School in Jersey City and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken, N.J. In 1953, she married John Bradley. They moved to Marshfield in 1975, where they owned and operated the Marshfield General Store until 1988. They moved to Barre, where she was employed as a certified nurse's aide at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of St. Monica's Church. Atherton, Bernie L., 94, formerly of Greensboro, died Oct. 3. Born in 1902 in Derby, he was the son of Lewis and Cora (Hanley) Atherton. He was educated in Greensboro school and was a graduate of Randolph Agricultural School. In 1929, he married Lora Mackres. He was a farmer in Greensboro until 1957 and he later worked as a carpenter. He served as town tax collector and road commissioner. He was a director for the Hardwick Trust Company and later the Merchants Bank, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Greensboro. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Greta Collier; five nephews; one niece; several grandnieces and grandnephews. Hoag, James H., Jr., of Barre, died Sept. 27. Born in 1932 in Burlington, he was the son of James and Helen (Ballard) Hoag Sr. He attended schools in Burlington, graduated from Burlington High School and obtained his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Vermont. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In 1957, he married Marie Rugo. He was employed by the State of Vermont, Agency of Transportation. An active member of the Barre community, he was Barre City School Commissioner from 1970 to 1973, director of Barre Rotary and a member of the Barre Congregational Church. Stuart, Robert Irving, 77, of Montpelier, died Oct. 2. He was born in 1918 in Middleboro, Mass. He was employed by First National grocery stores in Massachusetts. Born in 1924, she was the daughter of Ernest and Ida (Gordon) Bancroft. Born in 1909 in Wales, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Howard and Ellen Pearl (Ouderkirk) Montgomery. He graduated from Wales High School and from Burlington Business College, now known as Champlain College. In 1934, he married Helen Sayers, who died in 1995. He was employed as a salesman for Rawleigh Products and at Northfield Wood Products, before retiring in the mid-70s. He was a member of McKenzie Memorial Chapel in Riverton. She taught in the Springfield school system and for 16 years in the Northfield schools, retiring in 1968. Memberships included the United Methodist Church. Sprague, Robert W., 64, of Williamstown, died Oct. 8. Born in 1932 in Brookfield, he was the son of Edwin and Hattie (Stevens) Sprague. He attended schools in Brookfield. In 1964, he married Gloria Jewett. He worked on area dairy farms, most recently at the Davis Acres Farm in Brookfield. He retired in 1979 due to ill health. She taught school in East Granville, Bethel and Rochester and was an executive secretary in Boston. She retired from the Massachusetts Heart Association. Born in 1907 in Greensboro Bend, he was the son of George and Mary Jane (Hutchins) Davis. He attended public schools in Greensboro and graduated from Lyndon Institute. In 1934, he married Dorothy D. Nash. He was a merchant at Davis General Store of Greensboro Bend for 47 years, a family-owned business started by his grandfather in 1893. He was a member of Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church, and he and his wife spent six months of each year at their home in Tavares, Fla., where he was active in Asbury Covenant Church. McGill, Ruth E., 92, of Waitsfield, died Oct. 6. Born in 1903 in Waitsfield, she was the daughter of Thomas and Julie (Folsom) Mehuron. She graduated from the former Waitsfield High School, earned a bachelor of arts degree and graduated from Middlebury College and earned her masters from the University of Vermont. She was an English teacher in New York until 1934, when she married James McGill. After her husband's death in 1941, she replaced him as distributor of Sinclair Oil. She belonged to the Waitsfield Federated Church. Survivors include one niece, Anne Dumas; one nephew, Calvin Mehuron; several grandnieces and grandnephews. King, Claire B., 87, of Barre, died Oct. 8. Born in 1909 in Barre, she was the daughter of P. Henry and Elizabeth (Garvey) Brown. She received her early education in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1942, she married George King. They lived in Morrisville where they operated Grey Ledge Guest Home, a law practice and a retail and wholesale Christmas tree business. She later returned to Barre and was a member of the St. Monica Church. Survivors include one sister, Ileen Livendale; nephews; a grandnephew and a grandniece; two foster sons; and cousins. Cornell, Alice B., 77, of Bethel, died Oct. 7. Born in 1919 in Bethel, she was the daughter of Clyde and Anna (Dunham) Blossom. She received her elementary school education in Bethel, graduated from Whitcomb High School and attended beautician/hairdressing school in Boston. In 1941, she married Calvin Cornell, who died in 1984. She had been employed at the former Fyles and Rice Company in Bethel, the Bethel School Lunch Program and later as a hairdresser. Burnes, James P., 79, formerly of Williamstown, died Oct. 5. Born in 1916 in Springfield, he was the son of George and Marion (Pollard) Burnes. In 1941, he married Elizabeth Martin, who died in 1992. He was the owner of Capital Candy Co. in Barre. Born in 1911 in Saint Gabriel, Que., she was the daughter of Alfred and Alphonsine (Bouffard) Goudreau. She attended schools in Saint Gabriel. In 1928, she married Rodolphe J. Rouleau and they moved to Montpelier and in 1935, to Barre. She devoted her life as a homemaker and parent. She was a member of St. Monica Church. Eisenwinter, Esther C., 91, formerly of Barre, died Oct. 7. Born in 1905 in Quincy, Mass., she was the daughter of William and Helen (Gray) Cumming. She came to Barre as a child and attended schools there and pursued commercial courses at the former Goddard Seminary. She became employed in the office of Granite City Tool Company, which was owned by her family and continued there until 1928, when she married Lloyd E. Eisenwinter. They moved to Arizona and Mr. Eisenwinter died in 1989. She belonged to the Barre Congregational Church while in Barre and the Ringon Congregational Church in Tucson, AZ. Survivors include two sons, Robert and Allan; two daughters, Joan Thompson and Dorothy Peck; eight grandchildren; one sister; nieces and nephews. May, Albert W., 80, of East Cabot, died Oct. 9. Born in 1916 in Worcester, he was the son of Albert and Alma (Carpenter) May. He attended local schools in Marshfield and graduated from the former Montpelier Seminary. He married Velma Hall in 1940 and joined the Navy in 1944. He attended auctioneer's school and started a career in auctioneering. He was remembered as the "Man With the Derby Hat." After retiring from auctions, he continued working as a cabinet maker and woodworker. Survivors include his wife; his son, Albert L. May; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Marsha, Madine, 86, of Barre, died Oct. 11. Born in 1909 in Cabot, she was the daughter of Hayes and Marion (Hughes) Bassett. She was educated in Marshfield schools. In 1929, she married James Marsha, who died in 1989. She worked for New England Telephone and later for National Life, from which she retired. She was a member of the United Trinity Methodist Church in Montpelier. Survivors include a step-son, James Marsha Jr. and five nieces, Joyce White, Vicki Borland, Greta Sayer, Geraldine Gillman and Carolyn Sayers. Faye, Florence M., 72, of Randolph, died Oct. 11. Born in 1924 in Randolph, she was the daughter of James and Helen (Stone) Sivret. She received her early education in Randolph and graduated from Randolph High School. She had worked in the Green Mountain Glove Company, Brigham Gelatin Company and Gifford Memorial Hospital and retired from Randolph High School where she worked in the cafeteria. In 1947, she married Robert E. Faye. They raised several foster children and were designated foster parents of the year in 1970. Her husband died in 1987. Survivors include three sons, Robert Jr., Richard and Andy; one daughter, Sandy Jean Blanchard; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several foster grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hacker, Bennett, 86, of Barre, died Oct. 20. Born in 1910 in Salem, Mass., he was the son of Joseph and Lizzie (Blacher) Hacker. He attended schools in Salem, graduating from Salem High School. He later attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. In 1941, he married Celia Marcus. He managed department stores in Nashua, N.H. and in Quincy and Fitchburg, Mass. He and his wife later owned and managed the House of Shoes in Fitchburg. Survivors include his wife; one son, Frank; one brother; nieces and nephews. Doyle, Pearl W., 76, of South Royalton, died Oct. 23. Born in 1920, he was the son of Earl and Lyle (Eastman) Doyle. He attended school in Chelsea and South Washington. He also attended school in Lansing, MI, where he learned a trade as a welder. He worked for the Sargent Roundy Corp. and Webster Bobbin Shop, both in Randolph. He also drove truck for the Vermont Poultry Outlet and later worked as a diesel mechanic for Petco Oil Company, both in South Royalton. He retired in 1982. Crowell, Wayland A., 72, of Middlesex, died Oct. 20. Born in 1924 in Moscow, he was the son of Logan and Artie (Cowan) Crowell. He attended schools in Middlesex and Montpelier and served with the Army during World War II. In 1946, he married Rita P. Colonni. He became employed by National Clothes Pin Company and purchased the company in 1966. He continued operating it until retirement in 1994. Tomlinson, Mabel S., 94, of Stowe, died Oct. 22. Born in 1902 in Stowe, she was the daughter of Edward and Flora Shepard Sleeper. She was a graduate of Stowe High School. In 1921, she married Cletus Tomlinson, who died in 1977. She and her husband had farmed and she worked at Stoware, retiring as a salesperson in the giftshop after 40 years. She was a member of the Stowe Community Church. Survivors include three sons, C. Born in 1926 in Whitefield, N.H., she was the daughter of Leland and Geneva (Bishop) Hanks. She attended schools in McIndoe Falls and in Greensboro. In 1945, she married Robert Dimick, who died in 1974. They farmed in Walden until 1963 and then moved to East Hardwick. Born in 1928 in Rochester, she was the daughter of John and Marjorie (Coburn) Thresher. She later lived in Barre where she received her early education and graduated from Spaulding High School. Her husband, William Warner, died in 1965. She had worked at Ben-Mont Paper Company in Bennington and later at the Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal. Keefe, John E., 64, of Waterbury, died Oct. 19. Born in 1931 in Montpelier, she was the son of Bernard and Charlotte (King) Keefe Sr. He graduated from the former Waterbury High School. He served with the Vermont Army National guard and was activated during the Korean War. He later moved to California where he was employed in construction and later returned to Waterbury, continuing employ-ment in the construction field. In 1953, he married Sarah Spence. St. John, Ruth A., 86, of Barre Town, died Oct. 24. Born in 1910, she was the daughter of Carl and Addie (Simpson) Taplin. She attended Barre and East Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1935, she married Emery St. John. She spent all of her life as a homemaker and parent. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth, Ronald and Clayton; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Sargent, Greydon T., 87, of Northfield, died Oct. 23. Born in 1909 in Johnson, he was the son of Fred and Sarah (Staffelbean) Sargent. He was a graduate of Johnson High School. In 1936, he married Laura Baker. He had worked in the granite quarries in Barre, the asbestos mill in Eaton, the talc mines in Johnson, Eastern States Feed in Newport and at the Northfield Woolen Mill. He also worked at Northfield High School and the Green Mountain School in Montpelier. He retired in 1975. His memberships include the United Church of Northfield. Vecchio, Michael T., 71, of Plainfield, died Oct. 20. Born in 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Jack and Josephine Vecchio. He was educated in Brooklyn schools. In 1953, he married Lillian Eckstein. He was an electrician prior to retirement in 1972. The Vecchios moved to Plainfield after retirement. Born in 1947 in Tupper Lake, N.Y., she was the daughter of George and Theresa (Bujnovsky) Curtin. She was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School and received her BSN degree at D'Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. She was an Army nurse for four years and received her masters in maternal child health nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1970, she married Thomas B. Blue. They moved to Waterbury in 1976. She was a professor at Vermont College/Norwich University and a member of St. Andrew's Church. Born in 1983 in Yokota Air Force Base in Japan, he was the son of Charles and Amy (Roger) Otis. They moved to Florida where he owned and operated Gracie's Place and then worked at the Halifax Medical Center. Deal, Ruth F., 90, of Waterbury, died Oct. 23. Born in 1906 in Moretown, she was the daughter of James and Katherine (Goodwin) Flynn. She attended schools in Moretown and Waterbury and worked at the former Randall's Pharmacy and the former Whiting Milk Company in Waterbury. She married William Deal, who died in 1953. She later worked at Vincent's Pharmacy and aided the Hunger Mountain Day Care. She was a member of St. Andrew's Church. Lockhart, Helen G., 69, of Northfield, died Oct. 24. Born in 1927 in Pana, Ill., she was the daughter of Orville and Francis (Pope) Gresham. She graduated from Pana High School and earned her bachelor of science degree in physical education from Southern Illinois University. She later furthered her education at the University of Colorado and Syracuse University, where she earned a master's degree in physical education. She taught physical education at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. before teaching at Ripon College in Wisconsin. In 1960, she married Donald Lockhart. She retired in 1962 and moved to Northfield in 1963. She was very active in the Northfield community with refereeing and coaching high school girls softball. Her memberships included the United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; one son, Robert; a daughter, Patrick Lockhart; a brother; a sister; several nieces and nephews. Patenaude, Mary, 97, of Montpelier, died Oct. 20. Born in 1898 in Canada, she was the daughter of Edouard and Emma (Rodier) Chaput. The early years in her life were spent in Newport. After her marriage to William Patenaude, she moved to St. Albans and then to Montpelier. Her husband died in 1968. She leaves no immediate surviving family members. Brown, Foster E. "Shot", 76, of Woodbury, died Dec. 23. Born in 1922 in Marshfield, he was the son of Henry and Laura (Urban) Brown. He attended Marshfield schools. He enlisted in the Vermont State Guards in 1944 and served with the Army during WWII. In 1951, he married June Rose Powers, who predeceased him. He was involved in the granite industry for 34 years, working at Wells Lamson Quarry, the Beck & Beck Granite Co. and Cook-Watkins & Patch Granite Co., all of Barre. He retired in the early 1980's. Survivors include his companion, Hilda Allen and her grandson, Michael; two sons, David and Ronald; three daughters, Carol Alexander, Cheryl Branch and Louise; three brothers; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Jones, Ella Calef, 108, of Barre Town, died Dec. 22. Born in 1895 in River Sioux, Iowa, she was the daughter of Myron and Rose (Moss) Calef. She came to Washington (VT) as a child, and attended school there. She graduated from Goddard Seminary in the teacher-training program and also took advanced education courses on Cape Cod. In 1918, she married Ward Jones, who died in 1983. She was a member of the Barre Congregational Church. Survivors include two sons, Loren and Maurice; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Keenan, Anne H., 68, of Berlin, died Dec. 21. Born in 1930 in Braydon-on-Tyne, England, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Golden) Horan. She received her registered nursing degree from the Ingham Infirmary in Southsheild, England and later became a state certified mid-wife, training at the Women's Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1956, she moved to Morristown, N.J. and worked as a visiting nurse there. In 1958, she married Michael Keenan and they moved to Barre in 1972. She became a registered nurse and was a nurse with the Central Vermont Home Health Agency, a patient care coordinator at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin and a nursing supervisor at Heaton House in Montpelier. She was a member of St. Augustine Church in Montpelier and St. Monica Church in Barre. Survivors include her former husband; a son, Michael; three daughters, Mary Ruth Keenan, Catherine Couture and Christine Durkee; three granddaughters; two brothers; a sister; nieces and nephews. Hudson, Dwayne P., 25, of Barre, died Dec. 20. Born in 1973 in Berlin, he was the son of Dennis and Sandra (Smith) Hudson. He attended Calais Elementary School and graduated from U-32 Jr.-Sr. High School. He graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. with a degree in environmental engineering and received a master's degree in environmental engineering from the University of Maine at Orono. He also had taken several courses at the University of Vermont. He worked part-time for Heindel and Noyes Inc. in Burlington; also for Dufresne-Henry Inc. of Montpelier. Marsceill, Catherine M., 84, of Barre, died Nov. 30. She was born in 1914 and graduated from Williamstown High School and from the University of Vermont. In 1941, she married Francis Marsceill. She had taught in Bartlett, N.H., East Corinth and at Hardwick Academy. In 1957, she began teaching at St. Johnsbury Academy, retiring after 17 years. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Allan, James, Bradley and Wesley; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Moore, William Henry, 94, of Montpelier, died Dec. 22. born in 1904 in Barre, he was the son of Henry and Catherine (Connely) Moore. He graduated from Montpelier High School and in 1936, married Stelina Galli, who died in 1995. He was employed by Francis Murtagh Distributing Co. He later worked for the State of Vermont Highway Department, retiring in 1969. He was a member of St. Augustine's Church. Born in 1935 in Chelsea, she was the daughter of Harold and Marie (Brooks) Hayward Sr. She attended schools in Chelsea. In 1952, she married Richard Avery and in 1971, she married Henry Hale. She worked at the Rock of Ages capacitor plant in Barre and also at the Barre City Hospital and Central Vermont Hospital. Flinn, Martha F., 73, of Northfield, died Dec. 22. Born in 1925 in Roxbury, she was the daughter of William and Ida (Martin) Flinn. She attended Roxbury schools. She worked for Northfield Hosiery several years and babysitting for family and friends. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. Born in 1935 in Claremont, N.H., he was the son of John and Bertha (Murray) Reilly. He attended elementary school in Graniteville and graduated from Spaulding High School. He graduated from Lyndon State College and completed further studies at the University of Vermont and Plymouth (N.H.) State College. In 1965, he married Carolyn Brown. He taught elementary schools in West Berkshire, Orange, West Topsham and Waits River and later worked at Rock of Ages manufacturing plant and Rouleau Granite Co. He retired in 1997. He had been a member of the Graniteville Presbyterian Church. Suitor, Winston R., 75, formerly of Williamstown, died Dec. 20. Born in 1923 in Williamstown, he was the son of Harold and Emily (Donald) Suitor. He served in the Army during WWII. He had lived in East Haven, Conn. for 42 years. He was a broadcast engineer. Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Sankey) Suitor; a son, Alan; a daughter, Sandra Suitor; two sisters; two grandchildren. Abair, Andrew J., Sr., 71, of Waterbury Center, died Dec. 19. Born in 1926 in Moretown, he was the son of Barney and Marion (Desnoyers) Abair. He attended schools in Duxbury. He had served in the Marine Corps during WWII. In 1948, he married Patricia Lowe, who died in 1976. In 1978, he married Ruth King, who died in 1997. He had worked as a farmer, was a deliveryman for E.W. Bailey Feed Co. and Beacon Feed and was a butcher in the central Vermont area. He owned and operated a custom slaughter and sheep shearing business, retiring in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Abair; three sons, James, Thomas and Andrew Jr.; two sisters; two brothers; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Loranger, Elnora, 100, of Northfield, died Dec. 20. Born in 1898, she was the daughter of Emile and Media (Furlong) White. She graduated from high school in the Brookfield area and then attended a teacher's college. In 1938, she married Eugene Loranger, who died in 1967. She taught in Brookfield and worked at a bank in New Brunswick, N.J. She also owned and operated Little House, a restaurant in Northfield. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church of Northfield. Survivors include a brother, Leon White; four nieces. Taplin, Theo G., 90, of Chelsea, died Dec. 18. Born in 1908 in Milford, N.H., he was the son of Charles and Mary (Laird) Taplin. The family moved to Washington when he was three years old and he attended Chelsea High School. In 1930, he married Elizabeth Durkee. He had worked at the Earl Larkin Mill and the CC camp in Proctorsville and later at Grant's Mill in Tunbridge. He moved to Calif., where he worked at Goodwin's mill and Pacific Lumber Co. He returned to Vermont and worked as a sawdust hauler and in his woodlot. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Alice Doyle and Beverly Taplin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. LaBree, Walter M., 80, of Woodbury, died Dec. 19. Born in 1918 in Cabot, he was the son of Elmer and Belle (Foster) LaBree. He attended Cabot public schools. In 1946, he married Dorothy Evelyn McGoff, who died in 1996. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a farmer and owned a trucking business and more recently had been employed in maintenance for Hugo Meyer, the Town of Cabot and custodian at Berlin Convalescent Center. He retired in the early 1980's. Survivors include a son, Ronald; a daughter, Terri (Mrs. Lucas) Persons; a sister; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pedrozo, George C., 95, of East Montpelier, died Nov. 20. Born in 1903 in Worcester, he was the son of Antonio Pedrozo and Adclaide (Jeronime) Pedrozo. He received his education in Worcester. In 1930, he married Gertrude Macey, who died in 1992. He owned and operated a family dairy farm in Middlesex Center and started his own real estate business in 1947. He retired in 1975. Survivors include three daughters, Esther Gillett, Christina Jones and Mary Corliss; a son, Donald; a niece and a nephew. Bilodeau, Gertrude L., 91, of Barre, died Dec. 16. Born in 1906, she was the daughter of Joseph and Helen LaRochelle Bilodeau. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School and from Wilfred Academy in Boston. She worked as a hairdresser in Washington, D.C. and returned to Barre to work with her mother, sister and brother. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Paul Chatot Sr.; four nephews, Lesley, Paul and Steven Chatot and Eugene Bilodeau; two nieces, Linda Sprague and Helen Lanoue; numerous grand-nieces and grandnephews. Salvatori, Delsie (LaValley), 77, of Barre, died Dec. 19. Born in 1921 in Bethel, she was the daughter of Edward and Magueretta (Mattote) LaValley. She moved to Barre when she was three years old and attended schools there, graduating from Spaulding High School. In 1943, she married Ignazio Salvatori, who died in 1986. She worked for National Life Insurance Co., for the State of Vermont in the Finance Division; and retired from Rock of Ages in 1986. She was a member of St. Monica's Church. Belanger, Clara A., 92, of Montpelier, died Dec. 19. Born in 1906 in Wolcott, she was the daughter of William and Lucille (Moody) Richardson. She attended the People's Academy. In 1930, she married Arthur Belanger, who died in 1964. She was a member of St. Augustie's Church in Montpelier. Magrone, Luiggi (Louis), 88, of Barre, died Dec. 23. Born in 1910 in Lorville, Wis., he was the son of Francesco and Filomena (DeSantis) Magrone. The family moved to Barre, where he attended Barre City schools and Spaulding High School. He had served in the Army and after discharge, returned to Barre where he was employed as a stone cutter for Chioldi Granite Co. and Rock of Ages Corp., retiring in 1972. Survivors include his brother, Raffaela (Ralph) Magrone; three nieces; cousins. Jackson, Frederick R., 59, of Randolph, died Dec. 22. Born in 1939 in Braintree, he was the son of Linwood and Marjorie (Fisher) Jackson. He attended Randolph schools and served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War and later with the Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver for Martin Transport Co. in Wis. and moved back to Randolph in 1996. Survivors include his son, Frederick Jackson Jr.; five brothers; three sisters; many nieces and nephews. Rueda, Peter, 77, of Lower Websterville, died Dec. 28. Born in 1921 in Upper Websterville, he was the son of Ricardo and Manuella (Lavin) Rueda. He attended schools in Websterville. In 1944, he married Barbara Demingware. He had worked as a welder in the shipyards in Portland, Maine and after returning to Websterville, he worked at Wells-Lamson and Pirie quarries. He later worked at Compo and Carcoba Granite Co. and Consolidated Memorials, both in Barre. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Alan and David; a daughter, Barbara Paris; a brother; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Angell, Roberta C., 65, formerly of Tunbridge, died Dec. 28. Born in 1933 in Tunbridge, she was the daughter of Earl and Elsie (Cilley) Cushman. She attended schools in Tunbridge and graduated from So. Royalton High School and UVM. She received a master's degree in special education from the University of Connecticut. She was a special education teacher in Conn. and later worked in the Human Resources Department in Hartford (Conn.). Survivors include two sons, Frank and Paul; a brother; her former husband, Philip Angell; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mayo, Edgar H., 73, of Northfield, died Dec. 29. Born in 1925 in Northfield, he was the son of Dr. William and Prudence (Stickney) Mayo. He grew up in Northfield, graduating from Northfield High School. He served in the Army during WWII and graduated from UVM, receiving a master's degree in educational administration. He taught at Bradford Academy and later taught in the Overseas Dependants School System of the United States Department of Defense. In 1979, he retired and returned to Northfield. Survivors include two sisters, Anna Mayo and Deborah Beattie; a brother, Thomas; cousins, nieces, nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Clark, William J., 78, formerly of Williamstown, died Dec. 28. Born in 1920 in Williamstown, he was the son of Joseph and Ann (Golden) Clark. He graduated from St. Michael's High School and took pre-flight training at Norwich University. He served with the Air Force during WWII. He later was employed as an operating engineer in heavy construction. Survivors include three brothers, Thomas, John and Robert; three nephews and four nieces. Amsden, Clarence, 90, of Barre, died Dec. 31. Born in 1908 in Greensboro Bend, he was the son of Frank and Jennie Barre Amsden. He graduated from Greensboro High School and earned a master's degree in education from UVM. In 1931, he married Helen Conley Reed, who died in 1997. He taught in Hardwick and Greensboro, was principal in Marshfield and North Bennington and superintendent for the Windsor Central District. He retired in 1967. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock. Survivors include a son, Lyman; a daughter, Mary Zern; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Sironi, Romeo J., 94, of Berlin, died Dec. 25. Born in 1904 in Breeno, Province of Useria, Italy, he was the son of Riccardo and Attilia (Broggini) Sironi. He came to Barre in 1908 and attended Barre schools. He graduated from the former Goddard Seminary and later from Burlington Business College. He and the late Eugene Stefanazzi founded the United Granite Company and in 1953, he and his brother Charles, opened Sironi's Country Store in Montpelier, which he ran until retirement in 1978. In 1935, he married Helen Buzzell. He was a member of St. Monica's Church in Barre. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Carrie Bizzozero; four nieces; two nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews, including Carole Imajo and Rick and Randy Sironi whom he raised. Bottiggi, Claire H., 84, of Williamstown, died Dec. 31. Born in 1914 in South Barre, she was the daughter of Ellis and Elizabeth (Roberts) Henry. She attended school in South Barre and Spaulding High School. In 1944, she married Ernest Bottiggi, who died in 1979. She and her husband were foster parents to many children for several years and she later worked as a cook at St. Monica Rectory. She was a member of St. Edwards Church in Williamstown. Survivors include two sons, Thomas and Richard; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a foster son, John Nichols; four sisters; one brother. Schroll, Mark W., 40, formerly of Stowe, died Dec. 27. Born in 1958 in Cape May, N.J., he was the son of Harry and Mary (Niering) Schroll. He graduated from Stowe High School. He had operated a commercial fishing business in Hawaii and more recently was employed as an auto mechanic in East Hartford, Conn. Survivors include his mother; his father and stepmother, Harry and Louise Schroll; two sisters, Eileen Urion and Jany Baymoor; two brothers, Mike and Karl; his paternal grandmother; many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Sabol, Joseph G., 62, of Northfield, died Dec. 25. Born in 1936 in Shamokin, Penn., he was the son of Joseph and Nellie (Romanowski) Sabol. He graduated from Coal Township High School in Shamokin and received a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Penn. State University. He did graduate work at Temple University, Montana State University and earned a master's degree in education from Bucknell University. In 1959, he married Ruth Reed. He began his coaching career at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, Penn. He held many positions at Norwich University and for 10 years was head football coach. He left Norwich in 1975 and coached at Gettysburg College, returning to Norwich to serve as director of athletics and professor of physical education. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen and Scott; two brothers; a sister; a granddaughter; a niece and many nephews. Thibeau, Thelma S., 88, formerly of Barre, died Dec. 27. Born in 1910 in Vershire, she was the daughter of John and Florence (Brown) Judd. She was educated in Barre schools and in 1928, married Leonard Slack, who died in 1970. In 1980, she married George Thibeau, who died in 1984. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Survivors include a son, William Slack; a daughter, Lorna Payne; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a niece. Emery, David C., 80, of Barre Town, died Dec. 29. Born in 1918 in Portland, Maine, he was the son of John and Laura Emery. He attended schools in Brownville, Maine and graduated from Machias Teachers College in Maine. He served in the Army during WWII. He retired in 1971 as a Lt. Col. with the United States Army Reserve. In 1962, he moved his family to Barre and began employment as an Associated Planning Consultant on the Barre Urban Renewal Project. He was also director of the Vermont Office of State Technical Services, director of the Office of Sponsored Projects at Norwich University, commissioner of the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Affairs and director of the Vermont office of Small Business Administration. He retired in 1988. In 1943, he married Trudy Armentiono, who died in 1982. In 1984, he married Rosemary Untiedt McDonnel, who died in 1998. Survivors include three sons, David Jr., Jeffrey and Jon; four grandchildren; a brother; three nieces. Stefanazzi, Paul N., 53, of Barre, died Dec. 22. Born in 1945 in Burlington, he was the son of Eugene and Elsie (Nutter) Stefanazzi. He attended Barre schools and was a graduate of Spaulding High School. He received an associate's degree in business from Champlain College. He had studied acting in New York City and had acted and danced in summer stock productions and had worked as a waiter in several restaurants. He was a member of St. Paul and St Andrew's United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister, Lynda Wagner; two nieces; three grandnephews and grandnieces; uncles, aunts and cousins. Paquin, Maxine, 55, of Bethel, died Dec. 30. Born in 1943 in Randolph, she was the daughter of John and Maxine (Munchie) Gay. She attended Bethel schools and graduated from Whitcomb High School and from Champlain College. She worked for Indian Head Plywood in Montpelier, Foley services in Rutland and operated Paquin Hardware in Bethel with her husband. She more recently had been office manager for Century 21 and Coldwell Banker of Randolph. She was married to Alfred Paquin in 1966, they were divorced. Survivors include two sons, Keith and Kyle; her daughter, Nicholle Nelson; her mother. Keith, Dorothy Blanche (MacKay), 90 formerly of Cabot, died Jan. 9. born in 1908 in Livermore Falls, Maine, she was the daughter of Harvey and Willa (Corkum) MacKay. She attended schools in Nova Scotia and Livermore and graduated from Brunswick (Maine) High School and attended the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn, Maine. She was married to Wayne Matthews. In 1949, she married Gerald Keith, who died in 1994. She had taught commercial courses at Hardwick Academy and worked as a secretary for Oscar Shepard. She and her husband owned and operated a farm in Cabot from 1952 to 1964. After retirement, they spent winters in Florida and summers in Cabot. She was a member of the United Church of Cabot and was a past auditor for the town. Survivors include a son, Wendall Keith; a daughter, Joyce Goodman; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Rousse, Otilia, 76, formerly of Barre, died recently at her home in Calif. Born in 1922 in Northfield, she was the daughter of Frederico and Otilia Gutierez Pando. She graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1944, she married Leon Antonio Rousse, who died in 1985. She was a housewife. Survivors include two daughters, Marie Ghysels and Fe' Kubes; three sisters; two grandsons. Brooks, Dr. George W., 78, of Montpelier, died Jan. 6. Born in 1920 in Warren, he was the son of Henry and Lena (Lamorder) Brooks. He was educated in Warren and Montpelier schools, graduated from the University of New Hampshire and from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Mary Fletcher Hospital and served in the Army Medical Corps. In 1943, he married Jean Duncan; they divorced. He served at the Vermont State Hospital from 1947, until retiring in 1984. He was a member of Christ Church in Montpelier. Survivors include his former wife; two daughters, Jeanie Martin and Prudy Dowers; two sons, Peter and Jamie; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Brink, Gerald E., 80, of Bethel, died Jan. 9. He attended Bethel Lympus schools and worked as a farmer on several area farms. He served in the Army during WWII and later worked for the Bethel Highway Department, retiring in 1981. In 1947, he married Phyllis Jay, who died in 1970. Hall, Ralph E., 69, of Randolph, died Jan. 9. Born in 1929 in Brookfield, he was the son of Azel and Georgia (Brown) Hall. He graduated from Randolph High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He owned and operated an auto body shop in Bennington and had worked for Vermont Container in Bennington. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy and Cindy; a brother; two sisters; nieces and nephews. Abbey, Elizabeth F., 61, of Northfield, died Jan. 11. Born in 1937 in Northfield, she was the daughter of Ira and Agnes Mary Martin (Divine) Abbey. She was an artist and enjoyed baking. Survivors include a brother, Leonard; five sisters, Irene Abbey, Doris Abbey, Caroline Bacigalupo, Beatrice Lapier and Barbara Friscia; many nieces and nephews. Martin, Sallie M., 64, formerly of Waterbury, died Jan. 12. Born in 1934 in Winthrop, Mass., she was the daughter of Harold and Pauline (Foster) St. Louis. She was a retired administrative secretary, having worked at universities in Burlington; Jackson, Miss.; Providence, R.I.; and Albany, N.Y. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her first husband, Maurice Morgan and her second husband, Edward Martin Sr. Survivors include a step-daughter, Thelma Morgan Carrino; 11 stepsons, Norman, Brian, Paul, David, Larry, Keith, Marc, Randall, Daniel, Edward Jr. and Christopher. Rees, Dorothy Cecelia, 62, formerly of Barre, died Jan. 10 in Vernon, BC. She was raised in Barre. In 1958, married Dennis Rees, who was in the Royal Canadian Navy. They lived in many places across Canada as well as in Holland and Germany. They had recently built a home in the Okanagan. Survivors include her husband; five children, Diana Ferguson, Kerry Rees, Karen Falk, Judy Rees and Robert Rees; eight grandchildren; one sister; two brothers; many nieces and nephews. Thayer, Ruth C., 90, formerly of Barre, died Jan. 11 in Claremont, N.H. Born in 1908 in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Henry and Azubah (Slayton) Cate. She attended elementary school in North Montpelier and graduated from Goddard Seminary in Barre. She also took piano lessons at Goddard College. In 1928, she married William Thayer, who died in 1980. She had worked at the Rock of Ages Capacitor plant and at the Vermont Maple Company, both in Barre. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include a sister, Rena Long; nieces and nephews. Tuthill, Gladys Gaye Sleeper Bates, 95, formerly of Montpelier and Norwich, died Jan. 9. Born in 1903 in Grafton, N.H., she was the daughter of Frank and Flotilla Sleeper. In 1921, she married Ralph Bates, who died in 1948. In 1979, she married Benjamin Tuthill, who died in 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Adelma Ghishan; two sons, Ralph and John; three step-daughters, Marion Smiley, Marilyn Harper, Carolyn Bonner; two step-sons, Alton and Jordan Tuthill; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews. Paine, George H., 85, of Morrisville, died Jan. 11. Born in 1913 in Craftsbury, he was the son of George and Charlotte (Burnham) Paine. In 1936, he married Irene Talbert. He was a manager at the Stafford Laft Block Co. and owned and operated Paine's Restaurant and Paine's Car Wash, both in Morrisville. He had been a state legislator for eight years, helped organize the Lamoille County Senior Citizens and was involved with Boy Scouts of America and was a former selectman of Morristown. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Morrisville. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gregory Sargent; an adopted daughter; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother; four sisters. Dunbar, Leonard V., 79, of Greensboro Bend, died Jan. 10. Born in 1919 in Hardwick, he was the son of Harve and Maude (Burnham) Dunbar. In 1945, he married Bessie Pauline Badger, who died in 1986. Following his education in Walden public schools he became a farmer's assistant and served in the Army during WWII. He was employed as a carpenter in the Middlebury area for more than 25 years. In 1976, he and his wife retired to the Badger Family Farm in Greensboro Bend where he was a member of the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Glen and Kenneth; three sisters, Maude Lund, Myrtle Gonyaw and Nellie Staves; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Heath, Roger W., 54, formerly of Barre and Hardwick, died Jan. 3 in West Topsham. Born in 1944 in Barre, he was the son of Arthur and Gladys (Smith) Heath. He operated his own business in Hardwick until 1985, when he moved to Florida. Most recently, he was employed by W.E. Aubuchon Hardware Co. in St. Albans. After retirement he moved to Indiana and then to West Topsham. He was a member of the Hardwick United Church. Survivors include his companion, Steven Dailey; three daughters, Kimberly S. Sharron, Julie Heath and Laurie Anne Heath; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two sisters; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Ward, Gordon, 74, of Vershire, died Jan. 14. Born in 1924 in West Fairlee, he was the son of Ernest and Lillian (Burrough) Ward. He attended schools in West Fairlee and Vershire and served in the Army during WWII. In 1952, he married Viola Parshley. He drove trucks carrying milk and logs and farmed with his father and also worked on the railroad in White River Junction. For 33 years, he worked at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., as supervisor of the building and grounds department. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bradley, Martin, Malcolm and James; a daughter, Linda Seyfang; a brother; a sister; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. O'Brien, Madeline, 77, of Montpelier, died Jan. 14. Born in 1921 in Hardwick, she was the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Pike) Keniston. She went to school in East Calais and Orleans before graduating from Montpelier High School. In 1942, she married George O'Brien, who died in 1995. They traveled extensively during Mr. O'Brien's career in the Air Force, moving back to Montpelier in 1989. Survivors include two sons, George and Robert; three daughters, Bonnie Lea Faye, Nancy Jill Glenn and Sharon R. Ross; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Marelli, George, 82, formerly of Barre, died Oct. 26 in Quincy, Mass. He was born in Union City, N.J. and was educated in Port Jefferson schools on Long Island, N.Y. He was a WWII veteran, having served with the Army. Before moving to Massachusetts, he lived and worked in Barre for 10 years. He retired in 1978 from the Metropolitan District Commission of Massachusetts. He belonged to the Fort Square Presbyterian Church in Quincy, Mass. Survivors include his wife, Laura (Molla) Marelli; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. Tuller, Gordon W., 74, of Chelsea, died Oct. 29. Born in 1921 in Vershire, he was the son of Harrison and Eunice (Sargent) Tuller. He received his early education in Vershire and graduated from Chelsea High School. He helped his father on the family farm and repaired watches, clocks and radios. He later established Gordon Tuller Television Sales & Service in Vershire. He continued in this field until 1994. Survivors include his sister, Lucy Magoon; one niece and seven nephews. Pollard, Marie Ange, 85, of Montpelier, died Oct. 27. Born in 1911 in Berlin, N.H., she was the daughter of Napoleon and Marie (Denis) Dupuis. The family moved to Hardwick, where she attended schools. In 1939, she married Nelson Pollard, who died in 1958. She was a member of St. Augustine Church. She had been employed as a chambermaid at the Montpelier Tavern and Vermont College. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Mowrey and Sallie LaBounty; three sons, John, Steven and David; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters; four brothers. Perry, Wendell H., 73, of Cabot, died Oct. 26. Born in 1922 in Plainfield, he was the son of Leon and Beatrice (Lance) Perry. He received his education in the Cabot schools. He was a carpenter, served as town water commissioner and was village trustee. Survivors include two brothers, Robert and Willon; two sisters, Roberta Bothfeld and Leatrice Roberts; many nieces and nephews. Farr, Ola M., 99, of Plainfield, died Oct. 28. Born in 1897 in Calais, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lilla (Wheelock) Martin. In 1919, she married Glenn Farr, who died in 1983. She resided at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center for the past six years. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Flossie Metcalf; and nieces and nephews. Barrie, Tod T., 88, of Waterbury Center, died Oct. 26. Born in 1908 in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of Thomas and Clara (Eccleston) Barrie. He received his education in Scotland. He was an accountant, first in Britain and later relocating to Detroit, MI. In 1942, he married Mirren Muir. They moved to Waterbury Center in 1973. His memberships included the Waterbury Congregational Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheliah Rostow and Elspeth Larsen; two grandchildren; and a niece. Ginard, Sarah Jane, 90, formerly of Corinth, died Oct. 26. Born in Corinth, she was the daughter of G. Burton and Catherine MacKenzie Hastings. She graduated from Bradford Academy and the former Keene (N.H.) Normal School. She obtained a bachelor of science degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a master of arts degree from Eastern Connecticut State University. In 1930, she married Dr. Karl Ginard. Frost, Eubern E., 72, of Barre, died Oct. 29. Born in 1924 in Cornish, Maine, he was the son of Herbert and Ertie (Harmon) Frost. He attended schools in Maine and New Hampshire. He served with the Army during WWII. In 1945, he married Theresa Gilbert. They came to Barre in 1946, where he worked as a mechanic at the former Rossi Service Station. He later became employed in the granite industry, first at Acme Granite Company and later at Buttura & Sons Granite. He then worked at Cetrangolo Finishing Works in Northfield,. He was affiliated with Hedding United Methodist Church. Survivors include his former wife; three sons, Eubern Jr., Norma and Alan; two daughters, Beverly Chamberlain and Barbara Pennell; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven siblings. Niebling, John J., 86, of East Randolph, died Nov. 3. Born in 1910 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Valentine and Katherine Niebling. He was educated in Brooklyn schools. In 1940, he married Dorothy Townsley and they moved to Randolph in 1946. In 1975, he retired from John Hancock Insurance Agency as an agent. He was a member of Sts. Donatian and Rogatian Church. Survivors include his wife; his son, Robert; three grandchildren. Thow, Mary T., 83, of Barre, died Nov. 1. Born in 1913 in Barre, she was the daughter of James and Belle (Donaldson) Tassie. She attended elementary schools in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School. She attended American International College in Springfield, Mass. She was employed as a secretary, retiring in 1975. In 1934, she married Gordon Thomson Thow, who died in 1995. She was a member of the Hedding United Methodist Church. Born in 1905 in Sebrevois, Quebec, he was the son of Henri and Emelia Menard. He attended schools in Canada. In 1927, he came to Barre and was first employed by the Central Vermont Railroad. He later worked as a granite cutter, retiring in 1970. In 1941, he married Eileen Kelliber, who died in 1971. He was a member of St. Monica Parish. Gray, Ruby L., 90, of Randolph, died Nov. 3. Born in 1906 in Brookfield, she was the daughter of Earl and Avis (Fullam) Blanchard. She was educated in East Braintree. In 1924, she married John Gray, who died in January of this year. They farmed in Brookfield and moved to Randolph in 1984. They also cared for foster children and she worked as a domestic. Calligaris, Alfred, 87, of Randolph, died Nov. 5. Born in 1909 in Italy, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugeno Calligaris. He immigrated to Canada and then to New York state. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Manzella) Calligaris; a son, Eugene; a daughter, Enis Devito; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Lafley, Jennie M., 100, of Northfield, died Nov. 6. Born in 1895 in Scotia, N.Y., she was the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Blow) Duprey. She attended schools in Berlin. In 1914, she married Henry Lafley, who died in 1955. She worked at Vermont Hoisery & Machinery Company and Naden's Stocking Mill, retiring in 1962. She was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church. Scoville, Sherwood, 59, of North Calais, died Nov. 6. Born in 1937 in Terryville, Conn., he was the son of Earl and May (Herberle) Scoville. He graduated from high school in Terryville and served with the Air Force. He was a self-employed craftsman of furniture and cabinetry. In 1955, he married Anita Painter, who died in 1978. In 1983, he married Katharine Avery. She spent her life as a homemaker and a seamstress and was a member of St. Monica Church. He graduated from Northfield University. Following graduation he taught mathematics and coached the football team at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. He graduated from McGill University Dental School in 1936 and soon after opened his dental practice in Barre, retiring in 1982. In 1938, he married Hilda Hurley, who died in 1986. He was affiliated with the Hedding United Church. Survivors include one son, William; one daughter, Valerie Aimi Boyce; four grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews. Thompson, Herbert D., 86, formerly of Cabot, died Oct. 31. Born in 1910 in Ekalaka, MN, he was the son of Frank and Margaret (McCarty) Thompson. He received his early education in Plainfield and graduated from the former Plainfield High School. In 1929 he married Grace Corson. In 1948, he married Clytie Irene Colombo, who died in 1995. He drove a granite truck before entering the Army in 1943. After discharge, he returned to Vermont where he farmed for 10 years. He and his wife moved to Florida where he was employed at Lykas Pasco Packing Company, retiring in 1975. Survivors include his daughter, Janet Hobbs; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; one brother; one sister; several nieces and nephews. Jacobs, Baynard G., 60, of Washington, died Nov. 1. Born in 1936 in Barre, he was the son of Baynard and Isola (Roy) Jacobs. He attended Barre schools and Spaulding High School. He was first employed at the former Barre City Hospital, served with the Navy and was a member of the Naval Reserves and was then employed as a truck driver for H.P. Welch Trucking. He also owned and operated an auto body repair shop in Washington. He later worked as a cook for the Barre City school system and at the Barre Lodge of Elks. In 1957, he married Virginia Corey. Lantz, Harry E., 67, of Montpelier, died Oct. 30. Born in 1929 in Bethlehem, Pa., he was the son of Edward and Adelia (Boyer) Lantz. He was educated in Allentown (Pa.) schools and Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburg, Pa. He was a bank examiner and a securities administrator, retiring from the Securities Division of the Vermont Department of Banking and Insurance. After retirement, he worked at Sugarbush Ski Area and Sugarbush golf course. He had been a member of the Army Air Force. Survivors include his sister, Jacqueline Milander; his companion, Anita Rye; nieces and nephews. Holmquest, Arthur J., 84, of Adamant, died Nov. 2. Born in 1912 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Herman and Violet (Barzalay) Holmquest. His wife, Rita Tappe Holmquest, died in 1986. Survivors include his son, Ronald; two grandchildren. Fulton, Harriet M., 100, of Montpelier, died Nov. 1. Born in 1895 in Gilead, Conn., she was the daughter of Henry Bailey Mason and Hattie Maria (Holden) Mason. She received her education in Harvard, Mass. and Winchester, Mass., graduating from Wheaton College and receiving a master of arts degree from Middlebury College. In 1935, she married Arthur Fulton. She taught high school in Edgartown, Whitman and Wakefield, Mass. and moved to Montpelier after her husband's death in 1972. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Montpelier. Braman, Lorraine A., 67, formerly of Chelsea and Barre, died Oct. 31. Born in 1929 in Hudson, Mass., she was the daughter of Louis and Beatrice (Burgoine) Fontaine. In 1980, she married Anthony Braman. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Johnsonburg, Pa. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Richard Scribner and John Scribner. Woodruff, Frank E., Sr., 80, of Greensboro, died Nov. 7. Born in 1916 in Barre, he was the son of Dr. John and Marion (Ewen) Woodruff. He attended Barre schools, graduating from Spaulding High School. He graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and from the University of Vermont College of Medi-cine. He served in the Army and in 1945, married Evelyn MacDonald. He began his medical practice in Barre in 1959 and later joined a medical partnership with the late Dr. George Lucchina and Dr. Bruce Talmadge, with offices in Berlin. He left the practice in 1980, when he left to serve as a physician in the emergency room at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin, retiring in 1985. He and his wife had made their home in Greensboro Village since 1980. He was a supporter of St. Monica Church. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Dr. Stephen Woodruff; Frank Jr., Richard, David and Paul; four daughters, Mary Woodruff, Jane Woodruff, Anne Woodruff, Sarah Ford; a brother; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews. McDonald, Olive Ann, 89, of South Royalton, died Nov. 13. Born in 1907 in Thetford Hill, she was the daughter of Herbert and Abbie (Church) Chamberlin. She attended schools in Thetford and Fairlee and graduated from Montpelier Seminary. She was a secretary and later a bookkeeper. In 1928, she married Cedric McDonald. They owned and operated two dairy farms in Sharon. Mr. McDonald died in 1967 and she moved to South Royalton. She was a member of the Post Mills Congregational Church and was active in the Sharon Congregational Church. Survivors include a son, Douglas McDonald; a daughter, Phyllis Potter; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Carpenter, Hugh W., 83, of Waitsfield, died Nov. 9. Born in 1913 in Waitsfield, he was the son of Hugh and Mabel (Folsom) Carpenter. He was educated in Moretown and Waitsfield schools. He worked on the family farm and at Bowen Hunter Bobbin Mill. He was a member of the Moretown United Methodist Church. Survivors include his sister, Lettie Conrad; his brother, George; several nieces and nephews. Perry, Mary M., 95, of Randolph, died Nov. 15. Born in 1901 in Salem, Mass., she was the daughter of Bernard and Ann (Bartley) MacDonald. She attended schools in Massachusetts and graduated from Boston University. In 1924, she married Jeremiah Perry. They farmed in Woodstock until his death in 1941. She taught schools in New York and in South Royalton and Randolph, retiring in 1969. Born in 1910, he was the son of Charles and Grace (Colby) Button. He attended Chelsea schools and spent his working years in dairy farming, the grain business and Button's Store in Chelsea. Stowe, Margie Sue, 53, of Waterbury, died Nov. 13. Born in 1943 in Hammond, IN, she was the daughter of Anderson and Ruby (Havill) Payton. She attended schools in Tennessee and Louisiana, graduating from the Adult Education Program at Middlebury High School. She was employed as a beautician and a pipefitter and owned a housecleaning business. In 1965, she married Earle Stowe. She was a member of the Montpelier Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include her husband; a son, Earle (Rick) Stowe II; two daughters, Theresa Robin Stowe and Jamie Magee; two grandchildren; four brothers. Latimer, Reginald A., 40, of Barre, died Nov. 11. Born in 1956 in St. Albans, he was the son of Raymond and Marie (Deuso) Latimer. He was employed by Arthur Whitcomb at Tilcon and Twin City Masonry. Born in 1894 in Burke, she was the daughter of Harriet Kenison and Frank Smith. She attended schools in Burke and St. Johnsbury Academy and Lyndon Teachers College. She taught school in Burke. In 1916, she married Dale Donahue. They moved to Montpelier where she was employed by the Vermont Highway Department. She also operated a small needlework business and later worked in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Montpelier. Sur-vivors include her daughter, Patricia Seivwright; a grandson; three great-grandchildren. Cady, Albert E., 74, of Groton, died Nov. 8. Born in 1922 in Dorchester, Mass., he was the son of Harold and Margaret (Huggans) Cady. He graduated from Woburn (Mass.) High School. He served with the Marine Corps during WWII. He was a supervisor for New England Telephone in Mass. and moved to Groton following retirement in 1972. She was raised in Randolph and Northfield and lived in Claremont, where she was a communicant of St. Mary Church. She moved to Connecticut in 1961. Her husband, Levi Harley, died in 1976. Averill, Sandra Lee (Lyons), 43, formerly of Barre, died Nov. 11. Born in 1952 in Barre, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Delores (Archambault) Lyons. She received her early education in Orange Center and graduated from Spaulding High School. She worked for New Hampshire Insurance Company. In 1977, she married Robbie Averill. They moved to Florida where she was employed by the General Sand Gravel Company. They then moved to Normandy, TN, where she was employed at the J.C. Penney Store. Sheard, Franklin O., 71, of Brookfield, died Nov. 12. Born in 1925 in St. Marc, Haiti, he was the son of Col. Walter and Marie (Byl) Sheard. He attended schools in Freeport, N.Y., graduated from Freeport High School and served with the Marine Corps during WWII. He continued his education at Mohawk College in Utica, N.Y. and received his bachelor of arts degree from Brown University. Later earning his masters from New Paltz State University and Columbia University, both in New York. In 1951, he married Anita Bernagozzi. He was a special education teacher in New York, retiring in 1980 and moving to Brookfield. He was a member of Sts. Donatian and Rogatian Church in Randolph. Survivors include his wife; one son, Dr. Timothy Sheard; two daughters, Gwenn Colston and Meryl Sheard; five grandchildren; four brothers; four sisters. Coane, Gray R., 87, of Montpelier, died Nov. 20. Born in 1909 in Brattleboro, he was the son of Rexford and Emily (Johnson) Coane. He graduated from Brattleboro High School and from Norwich University. He received his masters from Bates College. He served with the Army during WWII. He taught at Montpelier High School, retiring in 1969, after being assistant principal the last five years of his career. He was also employed by the Vermont Highway Department in the summers. In 1934, he married Lucille Adams, who died in 1980. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Montpelier. Survivors include one son, Daniel Coane; three step-grandchildren. Cotnoir, Marcel J., 65, of Williamstown, died Nov. 17. Born in 1930 in Graniteville, he was the son of Hector and Emerentienne (Trudeau) Cotnoir. He attended Holy Ghost School in Graniteville and graduated from Spaulding High School. He served with the Army and the National Guard. In 1954, he married Hazel Neddo. He was first employed at the J.C. Penney Store in Barre, then became a sales representative for Metropolitan Insurance Company and was a broker for several insurance firms. He and his wife owned and operated Skyview Casino in Williamstown and he also was a car salesman, working for Perry Auto, Nordic Ford and Capital Chrysler. He retired in 1988. He was a member of St. Edward's Church in Williamstown. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lawrence and Leo; two daughters, Darlene (Mrs. James) Abair and Donna (Mrs. Donald) Baril; 11 grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Corrow, Bernard C., 75, of Barre Town, died Nov. 21. Born in 1921 in Coventry, he was the son of Will and Hazel (Laukes) Corrow. He attended schools in Coventry and graduated from Orleans High School. In 1941, he married Irene Brien. He served with the Army during WWII and with the National Guard during the Korean War. He was an electrician. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lt. Col. William Corrow and David Corrow. McDonald, Olive Ann, 89, of South Royalton, died Nov. 13. Born in 1907 in Thetford Hill, she was the daughter of Herbert and Abbie (Church) Chamberlin. She attended schools in Thetford and Fairlee and graduated from Montpelier Seminary. She was a secretary to James Curtis at the Sharon Grain Mill and later was bookkeeper for Windsor Farmers Exchange in South Royalton and Wilmer Brooks in Sharon. In 1928, she married Cedric McDonald. They owned and operated two dairy farms. Mr. McDonald died in 1967. She was a member of the Post Mills Congregational Church and was active in the Sharon Congregational Church. Survivors include a son, Douglas; a daughter, Phyllis Potter; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Richards, Helen S., 91, of Marshfield, died Nov. 13. Born in 1905 in New York City, she was a 30-year summer resident of Marshfield. She married Charles Richards in 1929, who is deceased. She was active in civic affairs and served on the board of the Children's Bureau of Delaware. She was knowledgeable about horticulture and spent her summers in Marshfield tending an extensive garden. Survivors include three children, Charles Jr., Helen Richards and Robert Richards; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Payne, William H., 84, of Barre Town, died Nov. 17. Born in 1912 in Barre Town, he was the son of Henry and Mabel (Farnham) Payne. He attended the former Trow Hill School and helped with the operation of the family dairy farm. In 1934, he married Evelyn Bolles. He was employed by the Barre Town Highway Department, retiring in 1977. He also worked at the Windy Wood Orchard in Barre Town. He was a member of Hedding United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Norma Nutbrown; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Chandler, Aileen A., 70, of Bethel, died Nov. 18. Born in 1926 in Eden, she was the daughter of Henry and Mattie (Bellville) Smith. She attended the Camp Brook School and the Bethel Gilead School. In 1973, she married Raymond Chandler. She was previously married to Estey Manning Sr. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Kenneth Manning, Sherman Manning, Estey Manning Jr. and Robert Manning; three daughters Barbara Butterfield, Joan Bent and Laurie Bent; 61 grand- and great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; four half-brothers; three half-sisters; many nieces and nephews. Hutchinson, Ahmed C., 49, formerly of Hardwick, died Nov. 19. Born in 1947 in St. Johnsbury, he was the son of Allen and Shirley (LeClair) Hutchinson. He attended Hardwick public schools and graduated from Hardwick Academy and from the Culinary School in Barre. He was first married to Nancy MacLeod and later to Linda Heywood. He was first employed as a chef at the Grand Restaurant in Stowe and later became employed by the Prudential Insurance Company, working in the St. Johnsbury office. At the time of his death, he was employed by Agway Energy Products, where he was plant manager in the Rutland office. He was a member of the United Church of Hardwick. Survivors include one son, Eric; two daughters, Stephanie Johnson and Arielle Hutchinson; his parents; one brother; one sister; an aunt; two nephews. Drought, Ronald L., 47, of Northfield, died Nov. 22. Born in 1949 in Montpelier, he was the son of Eustace and Arlette (Ingalls) Drought. He was a graduate of Northfield High School. In 1969, he married Elaine Lewis. He was a construction worker and then joined Rock of Ages Corp. He later worked part-time at South Village Grocery in Northfield. He was a member of the Northfield United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Drought; a daughter, Leslie Drought; his mother and stepfather, Arlette and Eric French; a brother; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Stevens, Mac L., 53, of Calais, died Dec. 2. born in 1943 in Woodsville, N.H., he was the son of Louis and Regina (Tucker) Stevens. He received his early education in Calais and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1968, he married Sandra Brown. He worked for the Vermont Agency of Transportation, serving with the Public Transportation Division at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife; his mother; three sons, Richard, Kevin, Brian and Mac Lloyd Jr.; one daughter, Dawn Ross; five grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; seven nieces. Ennis, Ralph O., 83, of South Cabot, died Nov. 30. Born in 1913 in Cabot, he was the son of Ora and Jennie (Clark) Ennis. He was a WWII veteran serving with the Army. He retired from the construction field in the early 1970s. Survivors include three sisters, Fannie Michaud, Hattie Batten and June Sargent; many nieces and nephews. Guiduli, Faliero, 93, of Barre, died Dec. 4. Born in 1903 in Barre, he was the son of Cesare and Marietta (Pacetti) Guiduli. He went to Italy with his family when he was a child and attended schools there. He returned to Barre in 1917 and served with the Army Air Corps. He owned and operated the former Venetian Restaurant and operated a Texaco station on North Main Street. In 1931, he married Lena Danzero and he and his wife opened the Country House Restaurant, which they operated until 1969. He was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Barre. His wife died in 1983. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Robert Guiduli and Ralph Guiduli; one daughter, Gloria Wenzel; seven grandchildren; three great-grandsons; one sister; nieces, nephews and cousins. Parker, Mildred B., 92, of Northfield, died Dec. 3. Born in 1904 in Elmore, she was the daughter of Henry and Lillian (Sprague) Bailey. She attended schools in Cabot and Woodbury. She had been married to Frank Archer and in 1934, married George Parker who died in 1977. She had spent the majority of her life in Connecticut and retired to Florida. She moved to Four Seasons Community Care Home in 1992 and lived at Mayo Nursing Home for the past year. She was a member of the South Side Baptist Church in Sebring, Fla. Survivors include her son, Frank Archer; two daughters, Josephin Wilson and Ruth Steward; two brothers; one sister; 12 grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Brooker, Delta L., 41, of Waterbury, died Dec. 3. Born in 1955 in Portsmouth, Va., she was the daughter of Herbet and Dorothy (Manley) Lovely. She graduated from Harwood Union High School. She was employed as a food supervisor and assistant manager in the cafeteria at Waterbury Elementary School. Survivors include her parents; two sons, Bryan Brooker and Eric Brooker; one sister; one brother; nieces and nephews. Clark, Bertha B., 90, of Barre, died Dec. 2. Born in 1906 in Barre, she was the daughter of Andrew and Albertine (Anderson) Bjorn. She received her early education in Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1946, she married Harold Clark, who died in 1977. She was a bookkeeper at Waldron-Shields Granite Company in Barre and later at National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier. She was a member of the Barre Universalist Church. Survivors include two sons, David and Douglas; three daughters, Diane Nichols, Marjorie Page and Jennie Clark; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three sisters; nieces and nephews. Twohey, Doris P., 82, formerly of Montpelier, died Dec. 1. Born in 1913 in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Frank and Carrie (Millaham) Pecue. She received her education in Montpelier and was employed as a secretary at National Life Insurance Company before moving to Mass. Her husband, Arthur L. Twohey, died in 1984. She was a secretary for "Nature Curious," a magazine published by the Audubon Society in Lincoln, Mass. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Keefe; a son, John; four grandchildren. Chandler, Raymond W., 64, of Bethel, died Dec. 2. Born in 1932 in Barre, he was the son of Wilbur and Grace (Boyce) Chandler. He attended Barre schools. He had worked at G. W. Plastics in Bethel, at Waterbury Plastics in Randolph and did carpentry work in the Randolph area. He later worked as a short order cook at the Black Forest Cafe in Bethel. In 1973, he married Aileen (Smith) Manning, who died Nov. 18, 1996. Survivors include a son, Raymond Jr.; two daughters, Kandy Pixley and Janice Chandler; four stepsons, Kenneth, Estey Jr., Sherman and Robert Manning; three stepdaughters, Barbara Butterfield, Joan Bent and Laurie Bent; 67 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters; nieces and nephews. Curtis, Glenn M., 79, of Northfield, died Dec. 3. Born in 1917 in Chelsea, he was the son of Edgar and Marion (Miller) Curtis. He attended Northfield schools and served with the Army during WWII. He was employed at Clarence Baker's Texaco Service Station and later built, owned and operated his own service station, Curtis' Service Station and Snack Bar. He later owned and operated a refuse company in Northfield, Glenn Curtis' Rubbish Removal Company. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He had been married to Isabelle Flint. Survivors include his son, Robert; two brothers; one sister; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Lines, Beverly A., formerly of Montpelier, died Dec. 4. Born in Montpelier, she was the daughter of William and Mary Louise (Menard) Milo. She graduated from St. Michael's High School and from Jeanne Mance School of Nursing. She was married in 1961 to Stratton Lines, they divorced. Survivors include four children, Jon Lines, Gary Lines, Maria Lines and David Lines; three grandchildren; one brother; two sisters. West, Henry L., 72, of Northfield, died Nov. 30. Born in 1924 in Barre, he was the son of Arthur and Louise (LaFlower) West. He was a graduate of Northfield High School. He served with the Army during WWII and became district representative for the Petco Corporation in Royalton in the mid-1960s. He then joined the Smith, Whitcomb & Cook Corporation in Barre. While there, he earned his bachelor of science degree and became a skilled mechanist. He retired in 1986. In 1980, he married Elsie Willey Bell. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, John Bell; three stepdaughters, Audrey Lyford, Gwendolyn Plante and Lucille Campbell; a nephew; one great-nephew; seven step-grandchildren; several cousins. Pinsky, Judith J., 61, of Barre, died Nov. 22. Born in 1935 in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Albin and Ruth (Thompson) Johansson. She later came to Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School. She was employed as a hairdresser. She was a former member of Hedding United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Hatfield Yergeau; a son, Stephen Hatfield; four grandsons; one brother; nieces and nephews. St. Onge, Beryl A., 86, of Waterbury, died Nov. 29. Born in 1910 in Waterbury, she was the daughter of Moses and Louise (Fremeau) Thibault. She graduated from the former Waterbury High School. In 1936, she married Alcide St. Onge, who died in 1983. She worked at Vermont State Hospital, retiring in the mid-1970s. Born in 1905 in Craftsbury, she was the daughter of Moses Arthur and Elizabeth Marie (Austin) Mills. She attended Morrisville schools and graduated from People's Academy. In 1926, she married Neil Gates, who died in 1955. She was affiliated with the United Church of Hardwick. She had been employed as a historian by the Waterbury State Hospital and until retiring in 1972, was employed as a domestic for D. Clayton Clow. Survivors include two daughters, Meriden Tibbetts and Ramona Carrier; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Lee, Roland E., 69, of Moretown, died Dec. 6. Born in 1927 in Bristol, he was the son of Elmer and Lena (Farnham) Lee. He attended schools in Moretown and Montpelier. In 1949, he married Grace Abare. He served with the Army during WWII. He worked on the family farm and was later employed in the lumber business, as a painter and as a salesman for the Sunbeam Bread Company. Most recently, he was a custodian at Harwood Union High School, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Andrew's Church. Rainey, Donna A., 45, of Montpelier, died Dec. 5. Born in 1951 in Sheldon, she was the daughter of Harold and Ellen (Derosia) Pelkey Sr. She graduated from Harwood Union High School in Duxbury. She had been a psychiatric technician at Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury and later was a nurses aid at the former Heaton House. Survivors include her daughter, Christi Sherlock; five sisters; four brothers; nieces and nephews. Wheeler, Leon C., 78, of Northfield, died Dec. 11. Born in 1918 in Montgomery, he was the son of George and Ada (Cushing) Wheeler. He attended schools in St. Albans and was employed in the maintenance department at the former Barre City Hospital. He also worked in the area granite sheds and quarries. He then earned a master electrician's license and was employed by central Vermont electrical contracting firms. In 1968, he married Lorraine McGowan. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Leon Jr. and Lawrence McCall; three stepdaughters, Elenor Provost, Cheryl Georgie and Victoria McGowan; one stepson, Jeffrey McGowan; one sister; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Fraim, Mary E., 81, of Barre, died Dec. 8. Born in 1915 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Kennedy) Fraim. She attended schools in Penn. Survivors include two sisters, Flo Hartman and Betty Monacelli; nieces and nephews. Lamphere, Robert I., 63, formerly of Montpelier, died Dec. 8. Born in 1933 in Montpelier, he was the son of Richard and Elizabeth (Sparrow) Lamphere. He grew up in Calais, attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass. and received an associate's degree in architectural engineering. He graduated from Northeastern University, Boston, where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering management. He was a commercial builder contractor and founder of two businesses, E.F. Wall and Associates of Berlin and R.I. Lamphere Corporation in Burlington. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne (Densmore) Lamphere; three children, Leigh Ann Lamphere, Lisa Cappella and Bradley Lamphere; three stepchildren, Nina Alexander, and Bruce and Bryan Derr; seven grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; two nieces and three nephews. Letter, Ernest F., a former granite manufacturer and Barre businessman, died Nov. 19. He was a native of Graniteville and the son of Eugene and Anna (Therrien) Letter. He was employed by Green Mountain Power Corporation and later operated Letter Granite Company in partnership with his father and brothers. He moved to Penn., where he owned and operated the Letter Memorial Company and then moved to Florida and founded General Memorials Inc. His wife, Bertha Letter, died in 1994. Survivors include two sons, Conrad and David; one daughter, Patricia Shrap; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers; six sisters; many nieces and nephews. Burns, Edith S., 95, of Montpelier, died Dec. 6. Born in 1901 in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of Germain and Emma (Provencher) St. Onge. She attended St. Michael's School and Montpelier High School. She owned and operated a dress shop in Montpelier. In 1932, she married Ralph Burns. She was a member of St. Augustine Parish. Survivors include her son, Dr. John B. Burns; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one niece and one nephew. Fahey, Virginia Goodrich, 75, formerly of Montpelier, died Dec. 9. Born in 1921, she was the daughter of Julian and Helen Ryle Goodrich. She attended St. Michael's School and Montpelier High School, Trinity College in Burlington and the Chandler and Chamberlin Schools in Boston, Mass. In 1942, she married Lt. Paul Fahey. Survivors include her husband; her daughters, Virginia Clark and Janet Bonanno; her sons, Kevin and John; 14 grandchildren; one sister; three brothers. Bean, Homer A., 85, of Northfield Falls, died Dec. 12. Born in 1911 in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Fred and Miron (Johnson) Bean. He graduated from Northfield High School. In 1941, he married Mary Moody. He served with the Army during World War II. He worked at Cross Brothers Granite Company in Northfield and joined the U.S. Postal Service, working in the Northfield office and retiring in 1977. He was a member of Northfield United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; one son, Stanton; one granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Tibbetts, Frank D., 60, of Northfield, died Dec. 12. Born in 1936 in Marshfield, he was the son of Frank and Mildred (Emery) Tibbetts Sr. He received his education in Marshfield and graduated from Marshfield High School. He retired in June from the Agency of Development and Community Affairs of the State of Vermont. In 1982, he married Germaine Ducas. Survivors include his wife; his step-daughters, Daine Garido and Joanne Matthew; four step-sons, Philipp, Marcel, Charles and Andre Ducas; one brother; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one cousin; many nieces and nephews. Adams, Thelma C., 83, of Stowe, died Dec. 12. Born in 1918 in Morrisville, she was the daughter of Max and Gladys (Titus) Coan. She graduated from Stowe High School, Johnson Normal School and the University of Vermont College of Education. In the late 1930s she married Lindy Adams, who died in 1976. She taught in school in Stowe and Waterbury, where she was a principal. She is a former member of the Stowe Community Church. Survivors include a daughter, Sally Bouffard; two grandchildren. Gerety, Frances M., 79, of Northfield, died Dec. 12. Born in 1917 in Rutland, she was the daughter of Frederick and Lena (Tatro) Wills. She graduated from Northfield High School and attended a cosmetology school in Worcester, Mass. She had been married to John S. Gerety Jr. She was employed as a hairdresser in the Montpelier area and owned and operated her own salon, Fran's Beauty Shop in Northfield. She later became a Vermont State Inspector of Cosmetology and Board of Funeral Service, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. Survivors include two sisters, Phyllis Austin and Janice Brown; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Olsson, Stanley G., 72, of Randolph Center, died Dec. 9. Born in 1924 in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of Axel and Ellen (Rylander) Olsson and was educated in Stratford, Conn. schools. He worked at Textron Lycoming Company in Stratford, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Stratford. In 1953, he married Dorothy Haskins, they moved to Randolph in 1990. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lawrence and Thomas; a daughter, Mary; five grandchildren. Wallace, Kenneth A., 85, of South Barre, died Dec. 7. Born in 1911 in Barre, he was the son of Frank and Julia (Bugbee) Wallace. He attended South Barre School and graduated from Spaulding High School. He retired in 1976 after being employed by Green Mountain Power Corp. for 35 years. He served in the Army Air Corps. In 1935, he married Doris E. Wright. He is a member of the Barre Congregational Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jane Morgan; one granddaughter; three great-grandsons; two nephews; a cousin. Gomez, Carmen, 85, formerly of Montpelier, died Dec. 7. Born in 1911 in Santander, Spain, she was the daughter of Roque and Orosa (Toca) Pinan. She came to the United States as a young girl. She had been employed as a cook at the former Heaton Hospital and at Smith College, retiring in 1977. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Survivors include six sons, Richard, Domingo, Rudluf, Raymond, Manuel and Noel; one sister; one brother; many grandchildren, great-grand-chil-dren; nieces and nephews. Jennett, Gladys E., 84, of Northfield, died Dec. 8. Born in Northfield in 1912, she was the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Blow) Duprey. She was a graduate of Northfield High School. In 1934, she married Charles W. Jennett, who died in 1985. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Survivors include two sons, David and Raymond; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; several nieces and nephews. Lozier, Alfred, 96, of Barre, died Dec. 9. Born in 1900 in St. Cyrille, Que., he was the son of Arthur and Rosanna (Cote) Lozier. He received his education in St. Cyrille and attended a vocational school in Montreal, Que., where he earned certi-fication as a mechanic. In 1925, he married Yvonne Dequire. They came to Barre in 1928 where he was employed as a polisher at South Barre Granite Company, the Barre Saw Plant Inc., Maurice Memorials Inc. and Rivard Granite Company. He retired in 1966. He was a member of the St. Monica Church. His wife died in 1989. Survivors include his son, Paul; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
