Phil Sheridan HOWES, Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont], insurance 
clerk, was born 28 July 1875 at Northfield [Washington County, Vermont], son 
of Edward H. and Susan S. (PUTNEY) HOWES. Educated Northfield public schools 
and Norwich University. Taught school previous to 1901, when he became 
connected with actuarial department of National Life Insurance Company. Is a 
collector of publications relating to the history of Vermont. Served as 
corporal, Company F, First Regiment Infantry, Vermont Volunteers in the war 
with Spain, 1898; for seven years a member of National Guard of Vermont. 
Democrat; member of the state committee since 1908. Universalist. Member 
Aurora Lodge, No. 22, Free & Accepted Masons; United Spanish War Veterans; 
and Vermont Historical Society. In 1898 [Phil Sheridan HOWES] married 
[Miss?] Alice LUNNIE of Maple Grove, Province of Quebec; they have two 
children, Harold Lunnie and Mildred Burr.
