John HIGGINS, Middlebury [Washington County, Vermont], hotel keeper, was born 
08 December 1853 at Arlington [Bennington County, Vermont], son of Michael 
and Mary (CULLINAN) HIGGINS. Educated in public schools. Was clerk in Hotel 
Arlington 1875-1885; clerk in hotel at Bennington [Bennington County, 
Vermont] 1885-1887; manager Brandon House 1887-1889; manager Lake Dunmore 
House 1889-1891; proprietor Addison House, Middlebury, 1891-1899; Pierce 
House, Middlebury, 1899-1901; Addison House 1901 to date. Democrat. In 
religious belief a Roman Catholic. In 1876 he [John HIGGINS] married [Miss?] 
Ellen WELCH, of Arlington [Bennington County, Vermont]; she [Ellen HIGGINS] 
died in 1906; they had three children: Margaret, Michael, and Edward.
