HALL, town clerk and insurance agent, Roxbury [Washington County, Vermont], was born 24 June 1844 at Richmond [Chittenden County, Vermont], son of Benjamin and Lovina Delight (CARROLL) HALL. Educated in the public schools, at Northfield High School, and at Vermont Conference Seminary, Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont]. Has taught in the public schools, been pension attorney, clerked in a general store, and conducted a small insurance business. Enlisted in 1862 in Company I, Ninth Vermont Infantry; transferred to Company B, Second Battalion, Seventeenth U. S. Infantry in 1863; re-enlisted in the Third Vermont Battery 1863; and was discharged in 1865 at the close of the war [Civil War officially ended April 1865]. Was in the battles of Harper's Ferry 1862, Chancellorsville 1863, Petersburg Mine 1864, and Petersburg in March and April 1865. Member Republican county committee; justice of the peace 1878-1888; town clerk 1903 to present time. Methodist. Member of Mad River Lodge No. 77, Free & Accepted Masons; King Solomon Chapter No. 7, Royal Arch Masons; Montpelier Council No. 4, Royal and Select Masons; Mount Zion Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar; Mount Sinai Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of Mystic Shrine; Gamaliel Washington Lodge of Perfection, fourteen degrees; Mount Calvary Council, Princes of Jerusalem, sixteen degrees; Delta Chapter of Rose Croix, eighteen degrees; Vermont Consistory, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, thirty-two degrees; Northfield Lodge No. 19, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; past commander William H. Boynton Post No. 94, Grand Army of the Republic; ex-delegate to National Encampment, aide-de-camp to commander-in-chief, and junior vice commander Department of Vermont. In 1877 he [George B.
