HALE, hotel keeper and general auctioneer, Barre [Washington County, Vermont], was born 19 January 1848 at Waterford [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of Otis G. and Eunice P. (HILL) HALE. Educated in the public schools, at St. Johnsbury Union School and Academy, and at Methodist Seminary, Newbury [Orange County, Vermont]. Was engaged in the dry and fancy goods business at St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont] from 1870 to 1885. Came to Barre in 1885, and made one hundred and ten auction sales in fifty-five days, later going South. Returned to Barre in 1887. Bought the Ella I. LAMB property and erected a business block thereon, and in 1900 built Hales's Pavillion and Hotel Otis, and conducts the same, with auction rooms, at the present time. Republican. Universalist.
