GRAVES, insurance, Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont], was born 17 February 1855 at Middlesex [Washington County, Vermont], son of Rawson and Cornelia (SCRIBNER) GRAVES. Educated in the public schools. Followed farming previous to 1889, when he engaged in the general insurance business, which he has followed since. Republican; was sheriff of Washington County from 1898 to 1902; deputy sheriff 1892 to 1898, and again from 1904 to date; deputy U. S. marshal since 1903. Was lister and constable at Middlesex; constable at Waterbury for fourteen years, and collector of taxes thirteen years. Has been town treasurer since 1907; was village president from 1907 to 1908. Was director of the Waterbury National Bank in 1909, and vice president in 1910. Congregationalist. Past master of Winooski Lodge No. 49 Free & Accepted Masons; past noble grand of Mentor Lodge No. 51 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and past district deputy grand master; past chief patriarch of Alhambra Encampment No. 20 Independent Order of Odd Fellows; president of Camel's Hump Club; member Waterbury Twenty-five Club; Waterbury Board of Trade; and secretary of Montepelier Board of Fire Underwriters.
