Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 203 John Warren GORDON, lawyer, Barre [Washington County, Vermont], was born 16 September 1857 at Vershire [Orange County, Vermont], son of William and Mary Ann (THURBER) GORDON. Educated in the public schools, at Burlington High School [Chittenden County, Vermont], Barre Academy, and Dartmouth College. Was a teacher in the high schools of Milford and Worchester [both in Worcester County], Massachusetts, 1883-1886. Admitted to the Vermont and U. S. bars in 1890. Was engaged in the granite business from 1886-1892. Has practiced law since 1890; was law partner of S. Hollister JACKSON from 1900-1902. Republican; was mayor of the city of Barre from 1896-1900; represented Washington County in the Senate in 1910; has been city attorney and school commissioner. Is the director of the French Barre Library. Member of the Universalist Church. Member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In 1884 Mr. [John Warren] GORDON married [Miss?] Maud Laura DUNHAM of Barre [Washington County, Vermont]; they have five children: Lillian Ward, Paul Dunham, Philip Cummings, John Aubrey, and Norman Seaver.
