Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 195 Ebenezer Johnson FOSTER, retired physician and surgeon, Waterbury Center [Washington County, Vermont], a graduate of Massachusetts Metaphysical College, was born 15 January 1847 at Moretown [Washington County, Vermont], son of Leonard Robinson and Jane Boyington (JOHNSON) FOSTER. His adopted mother was the late Rev. Mary Baker G. EDDY. Mr. FOSTER was educated in the public schools of Moretown, graduated from high school in 1866, and took special courses in German, French, Spanish, music and painting, also a course in oratory in Boston. At the age of fifteen Ebenezer Johnson FOSTER enlisted in Company B, Tenth Vermont Volunteer Infantry, participating with his regiment in the battles at Orange Grove, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomy, Cold Harbor, Welden Railroad, Monocacy, Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, and Sailor's Creek. Republican. He has been a member for several years and post commander of Ezra Stetson Post No. 72, Grand Army of the Republic. Has been president of the Washington County Veterans' Association several years; past president Vermont Veterans' Society of Boston and Vincinity; commander Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Vermont, 1910-1911; member Winooski Lodge No. 49, Free & Accepted Masons; Waterbury Royal Arch Chapter; Montpelier Council, Royal and Select Masons; Mt. Zion Commandery, Knights Templar, of which he has been eminent commander; Gamaliel Washburn Lodge of Perfection; Edward H. Roby Council, Princes of Jerusalem; Delta Chapter of Rose Croix; Vermont Consistory, 32 degrees, and Mt. Sinai Temple, also member of Order of Eastern Star. He has taken the degrees in the subordinate, Pomona, State and National Grange; has been a lecturer at the Vermont State Grange; past president National C. S. A. [Community Supported Agriculture]; member of Montpelier lodge, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. Mr. FOSTER has traveled extensively in the United States.
