Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 184 Goin Bailey EVANS, farmer, Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont], was born 04 December 1842 at Moretown [Washington County, Vermont], son of Osgood and Mary (BAILEY) EVANS. Educated in the public schools, Newbury Seminary [Orange County], and Bryant and Stratton's Business College. Has engaged in hotel keeping and farming, together with stock and produce business. Enlisted in 1862 in Company G, Sixth Regiment, Vermont Volunteers. Democrat; represented Waterbury in the Vermont Legislature 1874, 1876, 1878, 1884, and 1886; in 1885 was appointed deputy collector and inspector of customs; in 1894 was commissioned by President CLEVELAND as postmaster of Waterbury for four years; was high sheriff of Washington County, 1902; was a delegate to the Democratic national convention at Denver, Colorado, 1908.
