Edwin Baruch ELLIS, granite manufacturer, Northfield [Washington County, Vermont], was born 05 September 1856 at Prospect [Waldo County], Maine, son of Baruch and Lydia (CROSS) ELLIS. Educated in the public schools, and prepared for the East Maine Conference Seminary at Bucksport [Hancock County], Maine. Has been engaged in the granite business since 1870; established the corporation, the E. B. Ellis Granite Company, in 1903; and developed the Bethel white granite quarries at Bethel [Windsor County, Vermont]; has performed many large and important contracts, including the furnishing of the cut granite work for the Washington Union Station and the National Museum, Washington, D. C.; is also owner of the Keene granite quarries at Keene [Cheshire County], New Hampshire, having acquired the same in 1910. Democrat; in religious preference, a Universalist. Member of Bunker Hill Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Charlestown, Massachusetts; was a member of the degree staff for several years. Irving Clendenen ELLIS, granite manufacturer, Northfield [Washington County, Vermont], was born 16 September 1880 at Bucksport [Hancock County], Maine, son of Edwin Baruch and Josephine (COOMBS) ELLIS. Educated in the public schools of Charlestown [Suffolk County], Massachusetts, and Northfield, and at Norwich University, graduate of class of 1901. Has been in the granite business of quarrying and manufacturing monumental and building work since 1901. Member of the corporation, E. B. Ellis Granite Company, of Northfield and Bethel; has been its treasurer for several years; is now second vice president. Democrat. Attendant of the Universalist Church; trustee and treasurer of the society. Past master of DeWitt Clinton Lodge No. 15, Free & Accepted Masons; member King Solomon Chapter, Mt. Zion Commandery, Vermont Consistory, Mt. Sinai Temple, and Order of Eastern Star; member and secretary of Northfield Commercial Club; director of Northfield Trust Company.
