Washington EATON, Fred Laurine Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 117 (portrait p 117) Fred Laurine EATON, of Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont], was born 10 July 1859 in Calais [Washington County, Vermont], son of Arthur G. and Ellen M. (CHASE) EATON. At an early age he removed with his mother to Montpelier and obtained his education at the Union and Washington County grammar school. After this he was for a few years employed as a clerk, and was made in 1877 teller in the First National Bank, where he remained until 1881, when he was engaged as the cashier of the National Bank of Barre. After four years he exchanged to the First National Bank of Montpelier, which he has served as cashier to the present time. Has been for years both town and village treasurer, and has acted as the treasurer of the Wetmore & Morse Granite Company, of the R. C. Bowers Granite Company, and of the Vermont Quarry Company. Of the last two corporations he is also a director. Mr. EATON was a charter member of Gen. Stephen Thomas Camp, Sons of Veterans, receiving the compliment of being elected their first captain, and in 1888 was promoted to the colonelcy of the Vermont division of that organization. Belongs to the various Masonic bodies and is now serving as the Eminent Commander of the Mt. Zion Commandery of Knights Templar. On 15 October 1884 at Barre [Washington County, Vermont], Mr. [Fred Laurine] EATON was married to Lillian, daughter of Lewis and Lucinda (PETTINGILL) GALE.
