Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 125-126 Willard Jairus BOYCE, merchant and manufacturer, Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont], was born 10 November 1861 at North Fayston [Washington County, Vermont], son of Hiram E. and Betsey E. (EATON) BOYCE. Educated in the public schools and Montpelier Seminary. Lived on a farm until twenty-one years of age; moved to Waterbury and worked as clerk ten years for his father in grocery and provision store; afterwards partner in the business two years; in 1895 established a furniture and undertaking business; established in addition to the furniture business in 1906, with V. L. PERKINS, the Boyce-Perkins Lumber Company, Inc., manufacturing soft and hard wood lumber, clapboards, and creamery packages. Mr. BOYCE is a Republican; represented Waterbury in the Legislature 1908 and 1910; member of the appropriations and railroad committees 1908, and appropriations committee and chairman of general committee 1910; member of special committee to investigate the Austine fund at Brattleboro, and the state normal schools. In 1855 he [Willard Jairus BOYCE] married [Miss?] Elna M. ROBBINS of North Evans [Erie County], New York; they have three children, Earle Albert, Edith May, and Harriet Edna. Mr. BOYCE is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Member of Winooski Lodge No. 49, Free & Accepted Masons; Queen Esther Chapter No. 7, Order of Eastern Star; Mentor Lodge No. 51, Alhambra Encampment No. 20, and Emerald Rebekah Lodge, No. 33, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; and the Gentlemen's Twenty-five Club.
