Burlington: Ullery, 1912, p 112 Arch BATCHELDER, merchant and manufacturer, Plainfield [Washington County, Vermont], was born 30 April 1855 in Chicago [Cook County], Illinois, son of James M. and Miranda M. (LAWRENCE) BATCHELDER. Educated in the public schools, Goddard Seminary, and Norwich University. In 1877 he built a mill for the manufacturing of feed and lumber, which he has since owned and superintended. Mr. BATCHELDER is a Republican; represented Plainfield in the Legislature 1902; member of school board and auditor's board of Plainfield. Clerk of the Universalist Church for twenty years. In 1877 he [Arch BATCHELDER] married Emma F. BEST of Northfield [Washington County, Vermont]. Mr. BATCHELDER is a past member of Wyoming Lodge No. 80, Free & Accepted Masons; a member of King Solomon Chapter, No. 7, Royal Arch Masons; Montpelier Council No. 4, Royal & Select Masons; Mount Zion Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar; Mystic Shrine; Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Knights of Pythias; the Elks; and Red Men.
