Burlington, Ullery, 1912, p 107 Edward BAKER, Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont], military storekeeper, was born 13 May 1847 in Manchester [Hillsborough County], New Hampshire, son of Jabez and Louisa (GOVE) BAKER. Educated in the public schools and Royalton Academy. Learned the trade of wheelwright, working at it until 1887, when he took up booking, which he followed until 1903. He then received the appointment of military storekeeper under General GILMORE, which he held until General GILMORE's death, when he received an appointment by Lee S. TILLOTSON, adjutant and inspector general, as assistant adjutant general and military storekeeper. In 1873 Edward BAKER married [Miss?] Alma F. EVANS of Orford [Grafton County, New Hampshire, who died in 1888. They had six children: Winifred E.; Ellen A.; Jessie, deceased; Edward A., deceased; Eunice A.; and Homer J. In 1890 Edward BAKER married [Miss?] Alice C. GOULD of Calais [Washington County, Vermont], who died in 1910; they had one son, Charles E., who is deceased. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
