KINNEY, county judge, Grand Isle [Grand Isle County, Vermont], was born 18 October 1848 at North Hero [Grand Isle County, Vermont], son of Lysander and Mary (TOBIAS) KINNEY. Educated in the public schools of Grand Isle, and New Hampton Institute, Fairfax [Franklin County, Vermont]. Taught school four years previous to 1873, when with his brother, Socrates KINNEY, he purchased a farm which he carried on until 1903. That year he returned to the home farm. He ships apples in large quantities, and is also interested in dairying and poultry. Is a stockholder in and secretary of the Grand Isle Creamery. Republican; has held various town offices; was superintendent of schools from 1873 for twenty-five years; was county examiner of teachers for two years, sheriff four years; was elected assistant judge of Grand Isle County in 1906, and was re-elected in 1908 and again in 1910. Attends the Methodist Church. Member of Pomona Grange. In 1873 Marcus O. KINNEY married [Miss?] Mary E. CENTER of Grand Isle; they have one son, Clarence C. KINNEY. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
