The Right Honorable Thomas Lord Fairfax Baron of Cameron in that part of Great Britain called Scotland Proprietor of the Northern Neck of Virginia To all whom this present Working shall come Send Greeting Know ye for good Causes for and in Consideration of the Composition was paid and for the Annual Rent hereinafter reserved I have given granted and Confirmed and by these present for me my heirs and assigns Do give grant and Confirm unto Colo Isaac Zane of Frederick County a Certain Tract of Waste and ungranted Land adjoining the North Mountain and on the Waters of Cedar Creek and Hog Creek in the said County bounded as by a survey thereof made by Richard Rigg by Virtue of four Warrants Beginning at three Chesnut [sic] Oaks and the spur of the Mountain Corner to the said Colo Zanes 3193 acres Tract Then along a line of the same Sº49Et Two hundred and Sixty Poles to a large White Oak and a fallen Black Oak Corner to the said tract ____ to Jacob Cackley then with Cackleys lines Nº48Et one hundred and six poles to a Black Oak among Stones then Sº85Et one hundred and sixteen Poles

To a Black Oak a White Oak and an [sic] Hickory in a line and on the North Bank of the Main Branch of Hog Creek Then Nº59Et Fifty two Poles to a Black Oak Henry Seacrist Corner Then along his lines Nº58?? One hundred Six poles to a White Oak 2 Dogwood Saplings and an [sic] Hickory then Nº36W ninety six Poles to 2 Chesnut [sic] Oaks Then Sº54Et Thirty eight Poles to 2 Pines Then Nº3 6E seventy two poles and cross a Perennial Spring Run and the Course continues one hundred and twenty Poles to 3 Gums in a Stony Valley on the North Bank of another constant Spring Run Seacrist Corner Then 96º20Et 34 Poles to 2 White Oaks among Stones near a Swampey [sic] Spring to David Jones Then along his lines Nº50Et One hundred thirty one Poles to his corner White Oak Then Sº19Et eight Poles to a Black Oak in Jones’s line Henry Cloziers Corner Then with Cloziers line 97º49Et Three hundred and twenty Poles to a White Oak and a Black Oak Lsler Loyds Corner Then with her line 97ºEt Two hundred and thirty one Poles to a double bodied Chesnut [sic] Oak her Beginning Corner to Franklin James’s Survey Then along the lines of the same reversed 97º38½Et Twelve Poles to a Spanish Oak then 97º51½Wt fifty one Poles to 3 Chesnut [sic] Oaks near the foot of the mountain beginning Corner to the said Survey Then 97º96Et two hundred and fifty eight Poles to a White Oak in the line which intersected by a line of Captain [James] Spears Survey about 12 Poles from a Chesnut [sic] Oak at the foot of the Mountain Corner to James’s said Survey Then leaving it and – along Spears line 97º719Vt Fifty Seven Poles to 2 Chesnut [sic] Oaks Spears Corner and the Course continues Forty Seven Pokes to 2 Black Oaks and an Hickory on the East Side of the Mountain and then along it Sº43Wt One Thousand three hundred seventy six Poles to Beginning containing One Thousand eight hundred and forty two acres Together with all Rights Members and appurtenances thereunto Belonging Royal mines excepted and a full third part of all Lead Copper Tin Coals from Mine and Iron Ore that shall be found thereon To have and to hold the said 1842 Acres of Land Together with all Rights Profits and Benefits to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining except before excepted to him the said Isaac Zane his Heirs and Assigns – forever He the said Isaac Zane his Heirs and Assigns therefore Yielding and paying to me my Heirs or Assigns or to my Certain Attorney or Attornies [sic] Agent or Agents or to the Attorney or Attornies [sic] of my Heirs or Assigns Proprietors of the said Northern Neck yearly or every Year on the First Day of St Michael the Arch Angel the Fee Rent of One Sterling Schilling Money for every Fifty acres of Land hereby Granted and so Proportionally for a greater or larger Quantity Provided that of the said Isaac Zane his Heirs and Assigns shall not pay the said reserved annual Rent aforesaid so that the same or any part thereof shall be behind and unpaid by the Space of Two Whole Years after the same shall become Due if Legally Demanded that then it shall and may be lawful for my Heirs or Assigns Proprietors as aforesaid my or their Certain

Attorney or Attornies [sic] Agent or Agents into the above granted Premises to enter and hold the same so as if this grant had never Passed Given at my Office in Frederick County under my hand and Seal Dated 19th Day of October 1778.
