FLOYD, Va. Marshall Olin Griffin, Jr. passed away

born on January 21, 1934, in Indian Land, S.C. He was the son of the late
Marshall Olin Griffin, Sr. and Addie Rodgers Griffin. He was also preceded
in death by his sister, Mary Eldora Miller; and brothers-in-law, Robert
McGuirt, and Ernest Miller. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of
58 years, Gayle Miller Griffin; sister, Joyce Griffin McGuirt; daughter
and-son-in-law, Robyn Griffin Hatch and Daniel Hatch; sons and
daughters-in-law, Phillip Karl Griffin and Elizabeth C. Griffin, Will
Rodgers Griffin and Misty Reed Griffin; granddaughters, Erin and Addie;
grandsons, Reed, Thomas, and Zane; sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Mary
Karl Swink; nephews, Don Miller, Steve Miller, and Brendt Swink; and
nieces, Kim Yarborough, Lynn Holcombe, Terri Day, and Charlotte Mullins.
Olin was a 1955 graduate of Clemson University. After college, he served in
the U.S. Navy. After completing his military obligation, he enjoyed a
career in textiles. His textile career brought him to Hollingsworth &
Vose in 1981. It was there where he fell in love with Floyd, Va. and where
he continued to live until his death. After his career at H&V, he
enjoyed several years as a realtor working for United Country also in
Floyd, Va. Upon retirement, most of his time was spent with family,
friends, traveling, collecting art, working in his treasured gardens and
pulling for his beloved Clemson Tigers. Friends called on Friday, September
2, 2016, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home and at a Memorial
Service on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Floyd United
Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers consider contributing to his favorite
local charity, Plenty!, 192 Elephant Curve Rd. NW, Floyd, VA 24091. As his
family, we will miss his big personality, casual evenings on the back porch
with friends and great family vacations. GO TIGERS! Love You Big O!
