This is a rather confusing family entry, but I’m told John 17 yo was a s/o John Weddle Sr & his 1st wife. Pemelia was John Sr’s 2nd wife & the younger children are also John Sr & Pemelia’s. (src: Research by Earl Akers: Permelia is John’s step-mother, according to "The Weddle’s of Virginia and Related Families" she was "Pamela" Howard Akers, married John Weddle, Sr. (b. 1776) about 1836.  I have not identified her family. According to the book John, Sr. had a wooden leg and because of that, he was trained as a school teacher. He must have died between 1841 and 1850. Permelia Weddle, dec’d - property sold 8-5-1854.)

This complier’s note: I admit, I’m not sure that Permelia is not John’s mother. You’ll notice a John W. Akers is with John Jr in MO. I believe this is John W. Akers, s/o of Preston & Elizabeth (Weddle) Akers – another confusing family but that’s another story. Anyway Preston Akers & Elizabeth Weddle’s marriage bond indicate Elizabeth was a d/o Pemelia Weddle. Elizabeth was born abt 1830 & John Jr abt 1833 so I would think their mother would be the same. Also, Preston & Elizabeth were married in 11-11-1847 so John Sr was dec’d by then.
