Sarah Elva Smith Thomas, 86, of Floyd passed away Tuesday, November 17, 1998 in a Salem hospital. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Christene T. and Alton Vest of Floyd, Marcella T. and William Whitlow of Roanoke; four grandsons, Darrell and wife, Glenna Vest of Floyd, Ricky and wife, Teresa Vest of Georgia, James Vest, Timothy Vest of Floyd; one granddaughter and husband, Debra and Steve Hicky of Roanoke; two great-granddaughters, Stephanie Mitchell of Roanoke, Mandie Vest of Floyd; four great-grandsons, Justin Vest, Lance Vest of Floyd, Ricky Vest Jr., Tony Vest of Georgia; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Varner and the Rev. Ed Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. Memorial may be made to Floyd County Rescue Squad.

THOMAS, Wallar Edgar, 87, of Willis, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003, at New River Valley Medical Center.

He was the former owner of Hull and Thomas Tractor Company, Stuart, Va.

Preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis Sutphin Thomas; his parents, Homer and Eller Harris Thomas; a brother, Elmer W. "Chuck" Thomas and a sister, Ora Thomas Harman.

Surviving are brother and sisters-in-law, Ted and Cecile Sutphin, Rosette Sutphin, Ocie Sutphin, Goldie Montgomery; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2003, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Maberry Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Ann Thomas; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Nelson Daniel Sr., Roanoke; two grandsons and wives, Nelson Jr. and Brenda Daniel, Moscow, Idaho, Andrew and Dixie Daniel, Roanoke.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Paris E. Bain officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Chapel.

Dorothy "Dot" Rowland, 94, of Chesapeake passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Garver Garman and Pearl Miller Thomas.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Albert Curtis Rowland, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Eaton and her husband Ralph; two grandsons, Michael Eaton and Brian Eaton, all of Woodbridge.

Dot was born in West Virginia and grew up on a farm in Ashland, VA. She and her husband lived in Richmond for 18 years before moving to Chesapeake in 1966. Before being a stay-at-home mom, Dot worked with the FBI at Fort Lee, VA during World War II and later with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. After moving to Chesapeake, she was an active member of the Chesapeake Republican City Committee, a charter member of the Chesapeake General Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 966 (Lodge 898) and a “Red Hatter”. Dot was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. She was a golfer, bowler, enjoyed playing bingo, going to concerts, and most of all spending time with her family.

Her funeral service was conducted Thursday, August 27, 2015. Interment followed in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, provided services to the family.

Betty Jean Boone Thomas of Hartfield passed away peacefully with her four children at her side on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 after a courageous four year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born April 20, 1932 in Burlington, N.C. to the late Clarence and Ruby Clark Boone. Betty resided in Piankatank Shores on the lovely Piankatank River.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell Roscoe Thomas and is survived by her children, Rodney Estes, Donnie Estes (Margaret Robinson), Cindy Estes (Greg "Catfish" Leehy), Debby Estes (George Hardie); stepmother, Evelyn Boone; a brother, Tommy Boone; sister, Carol Payne; stepdaughter, Betty Alley; eight grandchildren, Chrissy, Keeter, Stephen, Cameron, Damon, Alex, Olivia and Amanda; seven great-grandchildren and her friends who became her chosen family.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Peggy Sue Waller, Agnes Wade, Pam Watson, Jan and Lola for their devoted love and care of our mother.

A graveside memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2005 in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Topping. The family will receive friends following the service at the American Legion Building in Saluda. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.

WOODSON, Isabell Thomas, 87, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2012. She was born to Garver and Pearl Thomas in 1924.

She was a member of Crestwood Presbyterian Church West. Isabell was past president of the Petersburg Flower Club, and past president of Women's of the Church.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sandra Kay Hamlin; her parents; and brother, Ewell R. Thomas.

Isabell is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Reinhardt C. Woodson; and her son, Reinhardt "RC" C. Woodson Jr. and wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Woodson; three grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Gordon, Amy R Hamlin, Blake A. Hamlin; three great-grandchildren, Kylie E. Gordon, Emma G. Gordon and Aubrey C. Gordon; also surviving are her sister, Dorothy T. Rowland; and brother, Elmer L. Thomas.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woody Funeral Home 1020 Huguenot Rd. Midlothian, Va. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn cemetery in Richmond, Va.
