Born in Willis, Va., Francis was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from Western Electric. He was a member of Tabernacle Church of Norfolk and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Francis was predeceased by his wife, Mavis P. Slaughter, and is survived by two nephews, William O. Slaughter Jr. and wife Lurea of Winston-Salem, N.C., and John A. Slaughter and wife Terrie of Charlotte, N.C.; and two stepsons, Erick Peterson of Lynchburg, Va., and Barry Peterson of Beijing, China. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. B.H. Struthers officiating.
