her first husband, James Herman "Big Tator"
Olinger; a son, Jerry Wayne "Tator"
Olinger; sisters, Laura Lou Shelor Price, Virginia Bowyer; brothers, Julius
(Dude) Shelor, Arthur Frank Shelor and Jessie Miller Shelor. She is survived
by her sisters, Mary Adams of Calif., Betty Bogert
of Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Guy (Jimmy) and Janice Shelor of
Blacksburg; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Olinger, mother of her grandchildren,
Cindy Olinger Moses and husband, Bobby, Michael W. Olinger, all of
Christiansburg; several nieces, nephews and other family members; and a very
special friend that was holding her hand at her passing, Lois Wade. The
family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall for all their
wonderful, loving care to Mrs. Olinger. Funeral services will be conducted 3

son-in-law, Nancy Elizabeth and Larry Collins, of Elliston, step-daughters,
Mindy Harman and Susan Nichols, brother and sister-in-law, Emmette Dwayne and
Bonnie Shealor, Blacksburg, brother-in-law, J.A.
McCoy, of Hershey, Pa., grandchildren, Donald Robert Hodge, Larry Wayne
Collins II, Lindsey Breeze Underwood, great-grandchildren, Olivia Hodge,

Christiansburg, Va., passed away March 26, 2009, surrounded by her loving
family, after a lengthy illness. Fannie was born on November 27, 1929, to
Fred and Beulah Shealor. She was a member of Luther
Memorial Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Fannie was a
retired employee of the Virginia Tech Printing Department. She was
predeceased by her mother and father; her husband, Jimmy; her son, Rusty; her
brother, Freddie; and her sister, Alice Martin. Those left to cherish her
memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Scott Bagg;
her grandson and wife, Christopher and Morgan Bagg;
a brother-in-law, Boots Martin; sisters, Ettie McCoy, Frances Williams and
husband, T.O.; her brother, Duane Shealor and wife,
Bonnie. Fannie is also survived by numerous special nieces, nephews and
cousins. Fannie cherished her family as they cherished her. She loved people
and never met a stranger. She loved working in her flowers. Fannie was always
helping others even when her health was declining. Doing and caring for
others was her trademark and calling in life. She gave unconditional love to
all those she encountered throughout her lifetime. Her family and many friends
are blessed and honored to have had her in their lives. Her passing leaves
cherished memories as well as many broken hearts. The family would like to
express their sincere appreciation to Dr. David Stoeckle,
Dr. Chris Jordan, and the nursing staff of ICU and Progressive Care at
Montgomery Regional Hospital for all their outstanding and loving care.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 30, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the
McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Schroeder officiating. Interment

Irvington. She was predeceased by her
husband, Fred (1986); brothers, Ralph, Jim, Trig and Bub Shealor,
and sister, Mabel Hughes. Surviving are her son,
Fred, of Colonia; daughter, Mary Dannenhold of
California; two grandchildren, Kim and Scott, and one great-grandson,
Brandon. She also leaves behind her dear caretaker, Vere Freeman, and her
loving dog, Baxter. She will be missed by all who knew her. Donations in her loving

(Jim), 74, of Salem passed away with his family by his side on Thursday,
March 28, 2002 after a short battle with cancer. He was an antique collector
and an avid fisherman. He was also a U. S. Army veteran who served during the
Korean Conflict. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father and caring
grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind many beloved friends at
Central United Methodist Church, Salem. Jim is preceded in death by his
parents, Andrew Byrd and Mary Gertrude Shealor and
brothers, Trigg Ingle and William Andrew Shealor.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 51 years, Eva Marie Shealor; daughter and son-in-law, Sally Marie and Thomas
Daniel King; grandchildren, Heather Lee Thompson, Matthew Thomas King and
Whitney Taylor King; great-grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Wilson and Seth Eligah Wilson; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph Randolph
and Ruby Shealor; sisters, Mabel Hughs and Ethel Fiehl. Jim will
be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He will especially be missed by
his wife, Marie "Shorty", daughter, Sally and granddaughter,
Heather. We all rejoice that he in now in peace.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Anthony C. Busic officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood

of New Jersey; a daughter, Karen Shealor of
Colorado; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel
Hughes of Blacksburg, Ethel Fiehl of New Jersey;
and his beloved dog, Duke. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday,
from Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Tuttle officiating. Interment

Boley, 69, of McCoy, died Tuesday, November 28,
2006, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Heritage Hall Health Care
Center. She was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on February 22, 1937 to
the late Olen Lee and Florence Lillian Fagg Shealor. She was a member of the New Mt. Zion Lutheran
Church and was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward Kaywood
Shealor, Marshall Lee Shealor,
Stanley Brown Shealor, and Floyd Olen Shealor. She is survived by two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Jimmy A. and Cheryl M. Boley of
McCoy, Jerry Lee Boley of Atlanta, Ga.; three
sisters and brother-in-law, Cordie Mae Nutter of
Roanoke, Edith S. and Bill Hurt of Boones Mill, Va., Jeanette S. and Conley
Shelor of Sunnyside; two step grandchildren, Randall and Brandi Womack and
Brandy and Adam Mills; two step great-grandchildren, Emma Mills and Kelly
Mills; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the
staff at Heritage Hall and the Carilion New River Valley Hospice, especially
Claudia Jones-Lezama and Debra Hamm, and also Dr. Harry McCoy, for all their
loving care. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 1, 2006 at 2
p.m. in the New Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Paul and Sister
Ellen Hinlicky officiating. Interment will follow
in the New Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road,
Suite 106A, Roanoke, Va. 24018 or charity of choice. Friends may call any
time after 12 noon on Thursday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to

Shelor, 93, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at his home in Radford, Va.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy where he taught Sunday
school for over 20 years. He
was a retired supervisor at Lynchburg Foundry with 44 years of service. He was
an avid hunter and woodworker. Survivors
include his wife of 70 years, Elsie U. Shelor, of Radford; two sons, Curtis
and Stephanie Shelor, of Pulaski, and David and Kitty Shelor, of Radford;
seven grandchildren, Debra Hoover, Joan Able, Kim Lytton, David Shelor Jr.,
William Shelor, Brent Shelor, and Jason Williams; and nine
greatgrandchildren. Funeral
services will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at the Church
of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Cecil Frazier, the Rev. Tom Warren and the Rev.
Sam Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in
Radford. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the

Calvert N. Shelor, 78, of
Wildwood died Sunday (May 12, 2002). Born in Pulaski, Va., he moved to
Wildwood from Radford, Va., in 1957. He retired from Sumter Electric as a
mechanic. He served in the Air Force during World War II and belonged to The
Church of God of Wildwood. Survivors include his wife, Alice; son, Ronald N.
Shelor of Palatka; daughter, Donna Lee of Coleman; brother, Mack Shelor of
Radford, Va.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Albert of Parrott, Mrs. Roy Harless and Mrs. Junior Halm of Elliston, Mrs.
Clarence Likens of Maryland, and Mrs. Byron Snooks of Kent City, Mich. Also
surviving are thirty great grandchildren and 25 great great
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will, be
held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parrott Methodist Church by the Rev. Fred
Austin. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery. The body will remain at the
DeVilbiss Funeral Home until one hour before the

Times on March 8, 2012 Arnold Randolph Shelor Sr., 86, of Blacksburg,
passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. He was born in Merimac
on March 9, 1925, to the late Elbert Price and Dottie Graves Shelor. A member of the "greatest
generation," he served in the United States Army in World War II from
1943 until 1945 and was stationed in Hawaii and Okinawa. Arnold loved to
reminisce about his time in Hawaii, where he spent a year jungle training for
a tour of duty in Okinawa. Upon his discharge from the Army on November 11,
1945, he was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning from the war, he owned
a taxi service in Blacksburg until 1953. He worked with Railway Express
Agency from 1954 until 1971, when the company went out of business. He then
worked as a supervisor in the Student Housing Department at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University, until he retired for health reasons in 1979. He enjoyed collecting and working on
antique clocks and talking to friends on his CB radio. He spent his life
taking care of his family, from sending money home to his parents during the
war, aiding his siblings or others when they were in need
of help, and providing for his wife, "the love of his life,"
and his four children. He was preceded in death by his wife of
62 1/2 years, Sylvia Marie Underwood Shelor; and four brothers, William
Shelor, Clarence Garfield Shelor, Lloyd P. Shelor, and Charles (Ed) Shelor. A loving husband and father, he leaves behind
three daughters and one son, Nancy Moore (Walter), of Winston-Salem, N.C.;
Arnold R. Shelor Jr., of Blacksburg, Charlotte McGuire (Kelly), of
Gainesville, Ga., Debbie Shelor of Charlottesville, and two grandsons,
Gregory M. Moore of Denver, Colo., and Duncan R. McGuire, of Gainesville, Ga.
He is also survived by one brother, Conley M. Shelor, one sister Adelaide
Marie Gay Henderson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2
p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club
Drive, Blacksburg, with the Rev. John Hopkins of the First Wesleyan Church of
Blacksburg officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in
Blacksburg. The family wishes to thank Diane Boothe
and Lois Wade for their special care of Arnold over the past several years.
They are also grateful for the skilled and compassionate care given to him by
Dr. Gregory Beato and Dr. Daniel Osimani. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to the Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church Heritage Hall Fund, 1406 Giles

Conley White and Opal Gertrude (Peggy) Shelor in Christiansburg, Va. Educated
in Montgomery County Schools, graduated Christiansburg High School, attended
Temple University College of Mortuary Science and advanced studies at Wharton
School of Business University of Pennsylvania. Served in the United States
Marine Corps with the 13th Defense Battalion, 1st Marine Corps Division. He
was a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Worked with Norfolk &
Western Railroad, Union Life Insurance Co. The GEM Stores in Richmond and
Washington, and Exxon Oil Co., Rockville, Md. He retired to Charles Town,
W.Va., in 1987. He is survived by one
sister, Dorothy Jean Jordan and husband, Claude, of Matoaca,
Va.; two nieces; one nephew; and several cousins; special friends, Patricia
Ott and Family, and many dear friends. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by a niece, Cindy. He enjoyed golf, horse racing and
bingo. He will be cremated; there
will be no memorial service or burial service. In lieu of flowers, donations
can be made to the Independent Fire Department, P.O. Box 925, Charles Town,

2013 following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and heart disease. She
was born on September 5, 1932 in Christiansburg, Virginia to Conley White
Shelor and Opal Johnston Shelor. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her
parents; a brother, Harry D. Shelor; and two daughters, Claudia Elaine Jordan
and Cynthia Jean Aaron. She was married to Claude Eldridge Jordan Sr. on
December 3, 1955. They lived in Colonial Heights before retiring to Matoaca. Jean was a devoted housewife and mother and was
passionate about making a difference in the lives of her family. Jean was a
lifetime member and two time past president of VFW Post #2239 Ladies
Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Peggy T. Jordan (Bill
Slaughter) of Colonial Heights; Cathy J. Daniel (David Daniel) of Collington Harbor, North Carolina; son, Claude E. Jordan
Jr. (Robin Kester) of Colonial Heights; son-in-law, John L. Aaron of Colonial
Heights; five grandchildren, Matthew Aaron, Dustin Ferrell, Wain Ferrell,
Zachary Jordan, Alissa Stables; and one great-grandchild, Morgan Stables.
Jean's funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the
Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory,
2033 Boulevard with Mr. Herbert S. Small officiating. Interment will follow
in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to

of Salem, Va., passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011. He was born on
January 26, 1924, in Christiansburg, Va., son of the late Emmett and Irene
Ridinger Shelor. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years,
Doris Plybon Shelor. He was also preceded in
death by two brothers, Frank and Harvey Shelor. Mr. Shelor is
survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Shelor and David
and Connie Shelor; four grandchildren, Kathryn Shelor Stone
and husband, Tim, Stacey Shelor Owen and husband, Zach,
Andrew Shelor and wife, Natalie, and Neil Shelor; six
great-grandchildren, Reece Owen, Rex Owen, Blake Shelor, Julia
Mae Shelor Jackson Stone and Madeline Stone; three brothers,
Sherman Shelor and wife, Betty, Jack Shelor, and Wayne
Shelor; brother-in-law, Joe Holt and wife, Mary; sisters-in-law,
Hazel Shelor, Patsy Shelor, and Sarah Smith; and numerous nieces
and nephews. Harold graduated from
Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, Va., in 1942. He was described by coach
Guy H. "Pinky" Spruhan as one of the 10
best athletes to ever to graduate from the school. He was listed in the
Senior Mirror as "Most Athletic." He was captain of both the
basketball and baseball teams his senior year. A star player, he was named
All City County and All Western District in both Sports his junior and senior
years. He was also a valued football player on the varsity team for three
years. After graduating from high
school, Harold was employed at the Radford Arsenal for a short time before
being inducted into the United States Army where he was assigned to the Corps
of Engineers. Over the next two years his unit had responsibility for
training military personnel in the conduct of engineering operations under
wartime conditions. Returning to Salem
following discharge from the Army, Harold was employed initially by Keith
Sausage Company and later by Blue Plate Foods. He was also employed for a
short period of time with the Salem Hosiery Mill before becoming associated
with General Foods Company as their area representative. In 1954, Harold joined with
Hugh Jones to co-find a food service company which was incorporated as
Roanoke Restaurant Service. Over the next 25 years the company would undergo
enormous expansion in terms of variety of foods distributed, size of the
territory covered by sales staff, and need for new and enlarged warehouse and
freezer capacity. Under Harold's leadership Roanoke Restaurant Service became
the largest food service company in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 1979,
Harold retired from the business. During his career in the
food service business, Harold served on the board of Directors of the
National Institutional Food Distributors Association for a period of 20
years. He also served on the board of First National Exchange Bank, has been
a member of the Penguin Club in Salem since it was organized in 1940, and is
an active member of Salem Sports Foundation. He is also a member of the
Windsor Hills Baptist Church and has served as Deacon. Harold married his
high school sweetheart, Doris, now deceased. In recognition of his
outstanding career achievements, Harold E. Shelor was inducted, in
the year 2000 into the Salem Alumni Hall of Fame established by the Salem
Educational Foundation and Alumni Association. In lieu of flowers, the

Mrs. Ruth S. Reed, Roanoke and Mrs. Nellie S. Huff, Christiansburg; also,
several nieces and nephews survive. Funeral services will be
conducted at the graveside in Sherwood Memorial Park, 2:30 p.m. Monday,
August 28, 1995 with Rev. David R. Miller officiating. The family suggests
that memorial contributions be made to the Lion's Eye Bank, 501 Elm Ave. SW,
Roanoke, Va. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. 1995 Burial:
