Ila Alfred Shelor, 87, of Empire died Wednesday at Casa de Modesto.

Ms. Shelor was a native of Roanoke, Va. She had lived in Empire since 1974. She was a member of Empire Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her cousin and caregiver, Joan Vickery of San Jose; and brothers, Baxter D. Shelor of Falls Church, Va., and Francis Shelor of Roanoke.

Services pending. Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, Modesto, in charge of arrangements.

She was retired from Roanoke City Schools as a teacher's aide and was the widow of Joseph Samuel Shelor. She is also preceded in death by her parents, James and Ida Kelley. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sandy Shelor of Huntsville, Ala. and Barry and Kris Shelor of Vinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tim Carr of Roanoke and Kathy and Dennis McDaniel of Salem; grandchildren, Brian Shelor, Brandie Shelor, Tim Carr II, Travis McDaniel and Joe Shelor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester and Clara Kelley, Jim and Nadine Kelley, Richard and Joan Kelley, all of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Rosalee and Conway Thrasher of Buchanan; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003 with the Rev. Reed Ness officiating. Internment will be in Sherwood Memorial park. SHELOR, Francis B., 75, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 3, 1998.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Marine Corps, and was retired from Grumman Emergency Vehicles.

Mr. Shelor was preceded in death by his son, Barry Shelor.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Shelor; a son, Rick Shelor; a daughter, Deborah Rogers; a daughter-in-law, Dita Shelor; a son-in-law, Clinton Rogers; five grandchildren, Tiffany, Carmen, Samantha, Jimi and Michelle; one great grandchild, Carl; a brother, Baxter Shelor of Matthews, Va.; a sister, Ila Shelor of Modesto, Calif.

Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 1998, with the Rev. Michael Grooms and the Rev. Bob Hutchins officiating. Entombment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

She was the widow of George F. Blackwell. She was retired from Allstate Ins. Co. after 37 years of service. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the BPOE Elks Lodge #197.

SHELOR, Beverly M., (Bev), 76, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2001.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel L. and Ruth V. Shelor; his brother, Lewis C. Shelor and a sister, Betty S. Atkins.

Mr. Shelor owned and operated B.M. Shelor Sheet Metal Company, Inc. for many years. He was an astute business man with honesty and quality work his prime service. He had a lifelong interest in building model airplanes and in recent years enjoyed remote flying his models. He was a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church, Past President of Villa Heights Lions Club, a member of the Williamson Road Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a lifetime contributor to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital in Greenville, S.C. During the time he was a Shriner, he participated in the Kazim Klown Unit. His military service was in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and again during the Korean War, serving aboard the U.S.S. Burdo, stationed in Norfolk, for a total of more than seven and one-half years.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lucille Epperly Shelor; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Chips Wooddy, Troutville; sisters, Ruth Shelor Shorb Rusmisel, Bridgewater, Barbara S. Jones, Newport News, Geraldine Reedy Wheeler, Roanoke and Joyce S. Myers, Norfolk; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Villa Heights Baptist Church or Good Samaritan Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Brian Clingenpeel and the Rev. Donald Earwood. Barbara (Pollie) Shelor Lavelle Jones, 77, of Newport News, Va., passed away on October 20, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on July 30, 1928 in Roanoke, Va. She moved to the Newport News area as a young woman, where she lived and raised her family. Pollie always possessed a strong desire to return to Roanoke, which she considered her home.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Samuel L. and Ruth Brown Shelor; also, by her brothers, Lewis C. "Pete" and Beverly M. Shelor; and her sister, Betty Shelor Atkins.

She is survived by one son, Robert "Bobby" Lavelle of New Castle, Va.; one son and four daughters in the Hampton Roads area. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pollie is the sister of Geraldine S. "Jerry" Wheeler (Jimmy) of Vinton, Va., Joyce S. Myers (Chuck) of Norfolk, Va. and Ruth S. Rusmisel (Bobby) of Bridgewater, Va. Beloved for her sense of humor and her ability to keep us laughing, she was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gifts of love may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.

A daughter of the late Samuel Lewis Shelor and Ruth Brown Shelor, she was born on January 5, 1930 in Roanoke, Va. She attended Jefferson High School in Roanoke and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. She had lived in the Dayton area since 1971. On September 12, 1948 she married Clarence E. Atkins Jr. who preceded in death on April 1, 1996.

Surviving are one daughter, Ruth A. Sink of Dayton; one son, Steven E. Atkins of Dayton; two grandchildren, Melissa Atkins and Brandon Atkins of Dayton; four sisters, Geraldine S. Wheeler of Roanoke, Ruth Shorb Rusmisel of Bridgewater, Barbara S. Jones of Newport News, and Joyce S. Myers of Norfolk; one brother, Beverly M. Shelor of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis C. Shelor.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tony Martin and William W. (Buddy) Farris officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Hinton. SHELOR, Lloyd Thomas, 63, of Salem, died Thurs day, November 23, 1995, in a Roanoke hospital.

He was retired from Eaton Corp. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Coral Sea. He was a member of the West Salem Baptist Church and the Lighthouse Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Spradlin Shelor; two devoted stepsons and a wife, Wayne and Joyce Ferris and Kenneth Ferris of Salem; two grandchildren that he loved very much, Michael Ferris of Richmond and Michelle Ferris of Radford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David Coleman and Delores Shelor, Jack Lewis and Connie Shelor; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise S. and Frankie Garman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 25, at 12 noon at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Slaughter officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Salem Baptist Church Building Fund or to Hospice of Roanoke Memorial Hospital, P. O. Box 13367, Roanoke, Va. 24033. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Chapel after 12 noon Friday.

He was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Catawba. He was born November 21, 1900, to the late David H. and Louvenia E. Shelor; and is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Doris Martin Shelor; one daughter and son-in-law, Nina and McArthur Davis of New Castle; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. and Debbie Shelor of Catawba; his grandchildren, Lorrie Smith, Cindy Shelor, Raymond Shelor and Kenny Davis; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Ricky and Erica Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 24, 1996 at 10 a.m., in the McDonald's Mill United Methodist Church in Catawba, with Pastor R. C. Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Shelor Family Cemetery, Catawba. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 9 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Surviving family include a daughter and son-in-law, Nina and McArthur Davis of New Castle; a son, Jerry L. Shelor of Catawba; daughter-in-law, Debbie Shelor of Roanoke; grandchildren, Lorri Smith, Cindy Shelor, Raymond Shelor and Kenny Davis; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Rick and Erica Davis; sister, Lois Campbell of Salem; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the McDonald's Mill United Methodist Church in Catawba with the Rev. R.C. Wagner officiating.
