ALDERSON - Reginald Grant Reed, 89, died Friday, Feb. 25. 2000, at a Fairlea hospital following a long illness.

Born Oct. 6, 1910, at Wolf Creek, he was the son of the late William Grant and Martha Ann Lemons Reed.

Mr. Reed was a retired self-employed carpenter, having worked in Greenbrier, Summers and Monroe counties and retiring after 50 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Creamery, and attended Grace Bible Church, Asbury. He was a former member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Alderson, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and served as lay speaker.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Faye Smith Reed; his second wife, Frances Follin Reed; a son, Rodney Paul Reed; a daughter, Phyllis Ann Qualls; a brother, Raymond Reed; three sisters, Dollie Meutzel, Helen Groseclose and Nellie Jimmerfield; three grandchildren, Debra Qualls, Bedford Baker Jr. and Cynthia Hall; and a stepson, Jennings M. Richmond.

Survivors include his wife, Claire Smith Reed; a son, Alfred Reed and his wife, Gaye, of Millersburg, Ohio; three daughters, Drema Reed and Carolyn Holliday and her husband, Bob, all of Alderson, and Sharon Mullins and her husband, Tom, of Mullens; two brothers, Russell Reed of Nashville, Tenn., and Robert Reed of Zanesville, Ohio; two stepsons, Charles Richmond and his wife, Phyllis, of Alderson and John Maxwell Richmond of Bland, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with Pastor Charles Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery, Creamery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
