Mills, for the past twelve years a well known and highly esteemed resident of the Watts Farm, died Saturday, March 27, at 6 p.m. at the age of 74. Mr. Mills had been in failing health for several months from a complication of diseases and the end did not come as a surprise. Besides his widow, Mrs. Mary Mills, he is survived by the following sons and daughters - Thomas W. Mills, Mrs. E. L. Cooper, Mrs. J. T. Francis, and J. O. Mills, all of Norfolk; Mrs. L. S. Stover, of Champaign, Illinois; Mrs. L. W. Ray of Plymouth, Indiana; Mrs. J. E. Williams and H. E. Mills of Richmond, and John W. Mills, Jr., Mrs. H. W. Terrell, and A. J. Mills, all of Roanoke.  He is also survived by thirty-three grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted Monday from Montrose Baptist Church by the Pastor, the Rev Tupper Wingfield, and the Rev. P. H. Chelf, of Salem and was attended by a host of friends and relatives of the deceased. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Roanoke Times 1923 Mrs. Mary Magdalene Mills, widow of John M. Mills, died Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Terrell, No. 1611 Staunton Avenue N.W. Double pneumonia, following what seemed to be a mild case of grippe was the cause of death. She was 74 years old, was a native of Floyd County, and had been in Roanoke, but a few days.  She is survived by five sons and six daughters who are - Thomas W. and J. O. Mills, Mrs. Herbert Allen, and Mrs. E. L. Cooper, all of Norfolk; Mrs. J. W. Williams of Richmond; Mrs. Lewis Stover of Illinois; Mrs. L. W. Ray of Indiana; Mrs. H. W. Terrell, A.J., John W. and H. E. Mills, all of Roanoke.  She is survived also by thirty-five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at the Melrose Baptist Church this afternoon at 230 o'clock with the Rev. P. H. Chelf in charge. Burial will be in Fairview where the husband of the deceased is buried. 1920 Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Roanoke City, VA.
