Some corrections and additional information:
George Washington Kelley's parents were: James (not John) Kelley and Elizabeth Sledd. This information is from the record of George W. Kelley's marriage to Nancy Divers Greer. James Kelley and Elizabeth Sledd were married 6 November 1787 in Amherst County VA.
George Washington Kelley is my 3rd-great grandfather. He was born 9 March 1794 in Amherst County, VA (not in Stokes County NC). I have a copy of the eulogy printed in a Primitive Baptist newsletter that has the incorrect information about George being born in Stokes County NC. I started proving/disproving information in that eulogy in 1976.
Land records show that the family moved from Amherst Co VA to Stokes Co NC in 1798, four years after George was born.
I know of few descendants who spell the name Kelly (without the 'e'). Of course, many records for this family are spelled both ways. In fact, some of George W. Kelley's records have his name spelled both Kelly and Kelley.
