Andrew J. & Caroline (Taylor) Howell
Family
1. Howell, Andrew J. |
Parents: David & Susannah (Hylton) Howell. 1793 Birth: abt 1793 VA. 1823 Marriage #1: Andrew Howell m. Caroline
Taylor 12-11-1823 Patrick Co., VA. Sur. Jefferson Taylor. Min. Stephen
Hubbard. Research by Susan M. Jurban
sent Aug 2019: Andrew Howell b. ca. 1791-1800 who was in the 1840
Floyd County, VA Census, but not in 1850 was indeed the same Andrew Howell
who married 11 Dec 1823 in Patrick County, VA to Caroline Taylor, and son of
David & Susannah Hylton Howell. Andrew was in Champaign County, OH
in 1830 and in Wythe County, VA in 1850. The proof this was the same Andrew
is from some transcribed letters from David Howell (Miller), his father of
Floyd County, VA to his brothers in Indiana & Ohio, which were
transcribed in by Ethel Baker in 1955 in Troy, OH. In two of these letters, David states that his son, Andrew had
sons named Jackson & Jefferson and other children but does not named
them. In a letter from 1836, David's son, Andrew was in Christiansburg, OH,
but in Jeremiah's letter to Daniel (both brothers of David), he mentions
"If any of the David Howells come to move Andrew back, send the money
back by Manoah (Daniel's son)." This seems to indicate that Andrew was
in OH and was planning to move back to VA. Andrew was not in the 1830
Montgomery County Census and was most likely the Andrew Howell listed in
Champaign County, OH. In January 1857 in a letter from David Howell of Floyd
County, VA to Daniel Howell in Champaign County, OH - "My son, Andrew,
and family live in Russell County, VA, 150 miles from me. He had quit
drinking and became a sober man. His family is all married but Jackson and
Jefferson". In July 1857 from David of Floyd to Daniel of Christiansburg
- his son Andrew lived in Rupert [?Russell] County, VA. Andrew had two sons,
Jackson & Jefferson. Andrew's daughter, Maria married in Russell
County, VA in 1854. Two of his sons married in Wythe County, VA, Madison in
1854 and Jefferson in 1857. Jefferson died at Gettysburg during
the Civil War, there are several letters written about his death on the
Russell County, VA Civil War site - Jefferson's page is at: https://russellvets.org/ In addition to the 5 children listed in the 1850 Census,
another son was William B. Howell who married 21 Apr 1853 to Mary Ann
Castle/Cassell, they remained in Floyd County and you have him listed
correctly. Andrew is not found in the 1860 Census, but his wife,
Caroline was living with her daughter, Maria who married Charles Henderson
Mitchell in Russell County, VA 10 Aug 1854. Caroline was still living
with Maria in the 1880 Census. Below is what I have for Andrew &
Caroline's children: Children of ANDREW HOWELL and CAROLINE TAYLOR are: 1. WILLIAM B.5 HOWELL, b. August 26,
1827, Floyd County, VA; d. May 19, 1916, Floyd County, VA; m. (1) MARY ANN

Marriage #2: Ernest Gorath. 2017 Death: 2-5-2017 Stillwater, Payne Co., Oklahoma. 2017 Obit: (src: Find A Grave) Elma Faye Howell was born
July 18, 1938, in Sumner, Oklahoma to John William and Alma Margaret Howell
in the family farmhouse. She passed from this earth on Sunday February 5 in
her family's farmhouse east of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Faye and her twin sister,
Ella May Howell (Dunford) were born within minutes of one another. She has an
older sister, Delcie, and a younger sister, Linda Jane. Faye, as she was
known in the Sumner and Perry communities, attended Sumner Schools all her
twelve years. She graduated in the ''Class of 1956'' along with her future
husband, Ray, and twin-sister, Ella May. She and Ralph Ray Richardson were
married on August 29, 1958, at the Sumner Baptist Church in Sumner, Oklahoma. Ray and Faye raised three
boys and from 1968 on, resided on the banks of Black Bear Creek north of
Perry, Oklahoma. She was involved as a bookkeeper for the farm and the many
family businesses that the Richardson family had through the years. Faye was
the quintessential farm wife and mother. She made sure her family always had
a hot meal and attended all events of the boys through their school years. In
1987 she went to work at the Edmon Low Library at Oklahoma State University
and worked there for 27 years before retiring. She loved the farm, and
everything associated with farm life. She and her twin sister, many times,
were seen driving the wheat trucks back and forth from the grain elevators.
She loved to draw by freehand, always grew some type of flowers, and enjoyed
taking part in social activities. There were many family events shared
together on the banks of that creek, at Ray and Faye's home through the
years. Ray preceded Faye in death
in May of 1999. Faye married Ernest Gorath the day after Thanksgiving in
2012. They made their home southeast of Perry, Oklahoma. She continued the
farm life and thoroughly enjoyed helping the Gorath's no matter what
endeavors she encountered. In the last few years of
her life, she suffered from Alzheimer's and was moved to a facility at the
Renaissance in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Some days before she passed away, her
boys brought her out to the farm to let her have her last days and hours in
the environment she so cherished, the farm. She was surrounded by family and
loved ones up to the end of her life and passed away in a peaceful manner. Faye is survived by her
husband Ernest Gorath of Perry, Oklahoma. She has three sons, eight
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Sons include: William Ray
(Billy) and Shonna Richardson of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Gary and Sandra
Richardson of Perry, Oklahoma, and David and Shelly Richardson of Champaign,
Illinois. Grandchildren include: Jennifer and Ben Stone, Gina and John
Wealer, Heston and Amanda Richardson, Bailey and Kyle Parmley, Rachel,

by her first husband, Ralph Ray Richardson, parents, John William and Alma
Margaret Howell, and her twin-sister, Ella May Dunford. Funeral services will be
