Hester Jones, 65, of Eccles. She died at 9 p. m. Thursday in a local hospital
following a long illness. Born May 14, 1905 at Abraham, she was a daughter of
Mrs. Emma Goodson, Eccles and the late W. C. Goodson. She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and was
a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors other than her than her mother, include
her husband, Columbus (Bill) Jones; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Dixie) Stoots and Mrs. Gilmer (Rujean)
Ayers, both of Eccles; three brothers, Everett of Orlando, Fla., Okey,
Sprague, and Willie Goodson of Union; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Brash, Shady
Spring and Mrs. Bertie Meadows of Abraham; six grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren. The body is at the Melton Mortuary. 1976

hospital following a long illness. Born July 9, 1895, at Pear, he was a son of the
late Adam and Marge Fox Bragg. A retired coal miner, Bragg had been a
resident of Eccles for 40 years and attended the Eccles Church of God. Survivors include two daughters, Dixie (Mrs.
Lawrence) Stools and Rujean (Mrs,
Gilmer) Ayers, both of Eccles; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Kincaid of Beaver; 6

November 2010 OBERLIN,
Ohio Elzena Marie Goodson Adkins, age 76, of
Oberlin, formerly of Grandview, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, November 16,
2010. Born
on July 17, 1934, at Abraham, she was the daughter of the late William
Goodson and Lottie Mae Harrah Goodson. Mrs.
Adkins was a homemaker, and had made her home in Oberlin, Ohio, for the past
thirteen years. She was Pentecostal faith, loved reading, watching old
movies, and had a great love of gospel music. Mrs. Adkins especially enjoyed
spending time with her baby kitty-cat, "little one." In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia
Lou Adkins, and by a son, Ronald Dean Adkins. Those left
to cherish her memory include her children, Samuel Ray Adkins and his wife
Darlene of Patrick, S.C., Judy Lynn Kruse of Strongsville, Ohio, Richard
Wayne Adkins of Amherst, Ohio, Arnold Dale Adkins and his wife Donna of
Elyria, Ohio; three brothers, Carl Goodson and his wife Dorothy of Oceana,
W.Va., Billy Ray Goodson of Oceana, W.Va., and Willie Goodson and his wife
Dottie of Brunswick, Ohio; four sisters, Louella Willis of Beckley, Emma Whitecotton of Cleveland, Ohio, Margaret Dugger and her husband Bill of Mt. Hope, W.Va., and
Genetta Honaker and her husband Marvin of Union, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren, and
nine great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral
services will be conducted at the Sandbranch
Worship Center at North Sandbranch, W.Va., on
Friday, November 19, 2010, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ken Souder officiating.
Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery at Grandview. Friends
may call at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. Grandsons
will serve as pallbearers. Online

Thursday, May 16th, 2013, after a long and good life, Delphia Goodson of
Florida Avenue passed away at the Pine Lodge Nursing Home. She was in her
95th year. The
last surviving member of her immediate family, Delphia Loving Richmond was
born on Jan. 22nd, 1918, at Pear. Her parents were Samuel and Eunice Buckland
Richmond. A
longtime resident of Florida Avenue, Delphia was married to the late Okey
Goodson. To this union were born five children, Jimmie who has preceded her
in death and Shelby, Roger, Stella and Ruby who will forever cherish her
memory. There
are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Committal
services will be Monday, May 20th, at 3 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park.
Pastor Bill Parker will be officiating. The family will receive friends from
1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary. Those wishing to attend the
committal services are asked to meet at the mortuary by 2:30 p.m. Condolences

William Herman Goodson, 68, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, August 25,
2013, at Plateau Medical Center. Born
on December 13, 1944, at Hawks Nest, he was the son of the late Herman and
Mary Perdue Goodson. Mr.
Goodson was a retired coal miner. He
leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 49 years, Bessie
Goodson; five children: Sam (Tina) Goodson, Farren (Barbara) Goodson, Chris
(Judy) Goodson, Lesa (Lewis) McComas, and John (Melissa) Goodson; two
brothers; three sisters; and six grandchildren: Atticus, Cyrus, Jessica,
Raymond, Kenneth, and Fredrick. Funeral
services will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at
Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Morris Nutter officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The

and Randy Bragg; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services

Mary Lena Plumley, 89, of Route 1, Shady Spring, died Sunday at 1:30 a.m. in
a local hospital following a long illness. Born May
10, 1879 in Franklin County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and
Mary Holland Goodson. She was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church at
Abraham. She is
survived by two sons, Grover of Fayetteville and Delbert of Abraham; four
daughters, Mrs. Willie (Elsie) Bragg of Shady Spring, Mrs. Voyl (Zella) Adkins of Abraham, Mrs. Porter (Ora) Ervine
of Handley, and Mrs. William (Ocie) Wright of Helen; 24 grandchildren, 35
great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Her
husband Abraham preceded her in death. Funeral
services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the East Salem Baptist Church
with the Rev. Oscar Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the East Salem
Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The
body is at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home where friends may call after

Florence Goodson, age 96, of Surveyor, W.Va., passed away on Monday, March 19,
2012, at home after a long illness. Born on November 22, 1915 at Judson,
W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Mack Bragg and Josie Sears
Bragg. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goodson was preceded in death by her
husband, Jesse Raymond Goodson in December 1954; by two sons, Robert and
Thomas Goodson; by five grandchildren; two brothers Roy and Raymond Bragg;
and by two sisters, Nora Blanton and Wanda Lilly. Anna was the loving mother
of 12 children, including three sets of twins. Those left to cherish her
memory include three sons, Larry Goodson and his wife Liz of Hinton; Donzie Goodson of Beckley, and Randy Goodson and his wife
Helen of Surveyor. Seven daughters, Janet Rose of Sophia; Thelma Allen of
Beaver; Dara Gorby and her husband John of
Proctorville, Ohio; Mary Lou Redden and her husband James Franklin
"Franky" of Statesville, N.C.; Naomi Ayers and her husband Charles
of Eccles; Karen Donat of Lorain, Ohio; and Connie
Roberts of Crown City, Ohio. She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 69
great-grandchildren, and 36 great-great grandchildren, along with a sister
Kathryn Reeves of Crab Orchard, and a large number of extended family
members. Anna was a member of the Lester Baptist Church in Lester, W.Va.,
where she was faithful for many years until health hindered her from
attending. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hospice of
Southern WV, and their tender, loving, and unselfish caregivers who gave of
their time day or night. They were such a blessing to Anna and her family.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 23, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. at the
Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Brian McAlister
officiating. Burial will follow at the Blue Jay Cemetery, Beaver, W.Va.
Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the services.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Rose, Larry Goodson, Tom Goodson, Bobby Goodson,
